12 pointsFinding RedSquare back in 2009 was great. Because of it, I have met some of my best friends ever. Thanks to "Chris" the founder, and Karl who has kept it going, plus all the mods who keep it running smoothe, it's the best social media out there.

8 pointsI have only been able to find one vintage dealer sign. I made a bracket and hung it on the corner of my horse barn. I do have some of Terrys signs that I am happy to display. Thanks Terry. Some other signs I have acquired.. This one hung over the Rienholt Sporting Goods store in Winterstown, Pa. from the 1930s till it closed in the 1960s when I purchased it at the closing auction for $1.25. I recovered this one from a river downstream of the club that was destroyed by a flood. The sign was mangled badly and by padding with carpet and hours of gentle pounding with a wooden mallet, I was able to get it back to this condition. This one came from the garage that my MIL rented out to the Keesey Bros. for many years in the 1950s. It had been used as a floor repair in the attic storage area and had been walked on for many years. Fine scotch brite, cleaners and waxes brought it back to this condition. This garage is now where I store my off season horses, boats, and camper. Some of the Allis Chalmers Hydro Turbine plates I retrieved when AC Hydro went bankrupt and sold out to Voith Hydro in 1986.

7 pointsWell, I had many user names and "handles before joining the Red Square. On my early hunting trips to Montana, I was given the CB handle "The Gobbler". My hunting partners were aware of my addiction to spring gobbler hunting. The Gobbler is still used today as my call name on radios and as a user ID on some hunting sites. Spring 2017 In the late 50s and early 60s after watching Fred Bear make some amazing archery shots on the original American Sportsman hunting show, I also became an archery deer hunting addict and assumed the user ID FBfan for many sites. The little white piebald deer was not taken by me. That's another story. BTW, I do my own taxidermy work. After my two sons finished college and left home, I had more time on my hands, so with a name like Kennell, what else. I built a kennel and started breeding and training beagles. Many IDs were on the hound sites..The Kennell, The Beagle Man, Dog Man, The Dog...Right Mike @squonk. Later on after my four grandsons became a major part of my life, I was designing a name for a newly purchased boat and I wanted to use their four names in the boat name. So the boat became " FOUR BUOYS'. This name is now my user name for several fishing, boating, and crabbing sites. So, sorry for the long post, but when I recently joined Red Square, and I was having trouble remembering user names and passwords, I decided to keep it simple and used a name I could remember....

7 pointsGlad I found this site too. Not very many sites have nice and helpful people on it. Without this site I would have never restored my B-100. THANKS!

7 pointsI have had the keyways crack out because I didn't keep the set screw tight. If you have only one setscrew, my suggestion would be to add another one at 90 degrees from the first and put a flat where the screw contacts the axle. Then make tightening the screws a part on your maintenance schedule, like at oil change time.

7 pointsthe guys at the shop always asked me if I had one tied up out back every year so that's where Buckrancher came from brian

6 pointsI have posted some of these family photos from the past before on Red Square but they still mean a lot to me. The Wheel Horses in our family started with an RJ 1958 my dad bought used at an auction in 1961. It had several garden attachments with it , including a garden plow. He paid $300 for it. Years later when my brother David and I started to redo his 1965 Wheel Horse 1054 we leanred from out mother that she had saved up that $300 to buy a new sofa! The first photo of of me, my brother David, my sister Cindy and my youngest sister Connie. To this day, my brother still says Lane always got to drive! My brother and I now have 24 or 25 Wheel Horse garden tractors between us of various models. The second photo is my brother and I soon after the RJ 58 came to out house in April of 1961. The third photo is 50 years later -after we purchased our first RJ from Clay and Tiffany Brooks in Roswell, Georgia. (We now have 5 of them! The fourth photo is the start of my grandkids and their appreciation for the Wheel Horse tractors. Ava is ten now and gets to ride and drive when she is hear in Indiana. The fifth photo is Ava again in Illinois on one of my Lawn Rangers I had at the time in 2011. The sixth photo is of my twin granddaughters Sara and Julia who want to ride the tractors or ride in the cart every summer they come to Indiana! Passing on the old to the next generation is a big part of sharing the love of Wheel Horses!

5 pointsWell mine is pretty obvious too. My name is Kurt and I live in NEPA (northeast Pennsylvania). Some think I live in California and misspelled NAPA.

5 pointsWhen the JD needed towed to the barn for repair......guess who was there to get it done?.......as always.
-
5 pointsTwo TIGHT set screws at 90 degrees will prevent nearly all axle/hub/key failures.
-
5 pointsYeah, and right after the 37 day Pa archery season ended while I spent 35 of those days in a tree trying to get this bruiser in range. A preseason pic I took in August at 300+ yards.

4 pointsWheel Horse did not mass produce advertising materials like those green guys of course. There are still many cool items out there and truly tell a story over the years. I have always held these pieces very close in my collection. Post up some of those prized possessions!
-
4 pointsMy name is Jerry from LaRue, Ohio. (50 some miles north of Columbus) I have a non-running Wheel Horse 854. I'm just at the beginning stages of repair/restoration of it. (gathering up small parts & collecting data/info) I have some question that I'll try to post in the correct content area. Red Square is a great place for all kinds of help & information!

4 pointsThis a B-80 I picked up awhile back that I swapped a Kohler CH13 into. I didn't want the battery ignition K181 so I sold it and recouped half of the 200 I paid for this. A friend gave me a cub cadet which is where the 13 came from. Ironically I just got a flywheel ignited K181 from a friend. Also kept the 26s off my 265-6 that I sold this spring. I have a snow blade that will go on soon as I already had it mounted and adjusted. I wanted another dual range trans tractor as a worker. The RJ pictured is for the fun of it.

3 points@Ed Kennell Ed is there any thing you don't or can't do . You have the energy of a 15 year old. I could not keep up with you for a few hours without a long nap.

3 pointsMine is pretty straightforward. I was named that at the FBI Academy when we had me and Louisiana Todd. Had to keep us seperate. Kinda stuck in subsequent years at Karaoke!!! When I cranked off with David Allan Coe, it made even more sense.. If you don't know who that is, well shame on you! You have missed out!

3 pointsA stock Suzuki Samurai '85-'95 used 1-1/8" axle shafts and weighs roughly 2,000lbs . I ran 33x12.5-15 Swampers on mine weighing just over 3,100lbs built and other brands of tires for years on them and only broke a few if that is any example . The WH axles are some pretty good steel - as I found out repairing key ways and having to re-cut them after they wallowed out and had to weld them up - none have ever broken despite being welded yet. Most times at worst you'll either break a hub or break the tractor frame first . I'd suspect if anyone running duals broke an axle it was from a bad outer bearing or just far too much leverage and abuse . Some that run FEL weight boxes on the rear have loaded them down to scary levels and generally only tear up the wheel bearings - inner one almost always first . Thankfully , Lowell has us covered on that bearing.... Sarge

3 points1985 312-8 has a 3 amp unregulated charging system. One stator output goes directly to the light switch and supplies AC current to the lights. I can see how a failed bulb could result in higher AC voltage to the remaining bulbs. The other stator has a diode in the wire next to harness connector and that one charges the battery. Peel the tape back and measure the AC voltage going into the diode. Notice the band on one end of the diode. A replacement must be installed the same way. A cheap 6 amp replacement diode should work. For those with high battery voltage I recall SOI experimenting with this. He added diodes in series to reduce the output. Each diode drops the voltage about .6 of a volt so 4 in a series would drop the voltage .6 x 4 = 2.4 volts. Garry

3 pointsPeacemakerJack: Thank you! The bench on that wagon was part of a set of two benches and a table my grandfather John Fabian made for our playhouse that my dad had made for us in our backyard. We had about a 13 x 8 playhouse that was the rivl of the neighborhood! I don't have a picture of that playhouse but the RJ Wheel Horse and a covered wagon that we had became another reason for kids in the neighborhood to hang out at "the Ralph House". Another "horse" that we have is an interesting mix of work from my grandfather Fabian, my dad, and my mother, who is a retired industrial blacksmith. The rocking horse has been used by over fifty years of family kids and grandkids. Currently, at my house and awaiting another use by a forth grandchild. The tail was made by my mother who is a knitter, and at one time had seven looms to make rugs, blankets, etc. The head, seat and body were wooden pieces that came from my grandfather Fabians garage when he moved to Barnes, Wisconsin in 1962. The rails, stirrups and grab handle were made by my dad. It is funny to me that you also mention "slides" in your post as I have most of our family slides in my basement that I have not looked at in twenty or more years. I was fortunate to buy a Kodak Carousel Projector and thirty or forty of the round slide projection cases years ago to store our 1960's and 1970's treasure trove of memories. I need to do what you have done and take digital photos of some of the best ones.

3 pointsLane--What a great batch of pictures! Thank you for sharing them and the terrific family history. Those grandkids of your's are sweethearts and i especially love the vintage photos above. That one with your guys and the cowboy hats is epic (It belongs in a calendar!). I'm trying to figure out if the bench that your sisters are siting on is attached to the wagon or if it is just resting on there? You certainly have wheel horses in your blood! I think it is great that you can share this hobby with your brother even if you do always get to drive! So I've been waiting for the right time to post this picture and I will here. This is the first riding lawnmower that my grandpa purchased in about 1966. Before they bought this, my uncles push mowed the lawn. My uncle Ken is the one on the REO. He was upset because my dad was next in line and he actually did far more cutting on that than Ken did because he joined the military soon after graduation. Disregard the date. It was that date that I took a picture of this slide with my camera and forgot to turn the auto date feature off. I need to use my slide converter on this slide, I think I could manage even better resolution. The car is my Uncle Bob's first car, a 1962 Pontiac Catalina with a 389 engine in it. My Grandparents have been deceased for about a decade and a half now but my dad's uncle Roger still lives in that house with his family. We hope to host a plow day there again in the next year or so.

3 pointsMy mom called me Bob Ellison at birth and it just stuck. Every where I go people call me that and I've just learned to except it. I sometimes wish I was called Bill Gates or Bob Gates.

3 pointsOur two sons have claims on my two Wheel Horses one of which was my Father’s. Now our two grand children each want one!
