6 pointsStory is guy I got it from bought it New in 1966 and he said the dealer painted it this way to sell it faster... I got new decals with it and it will be restored to original. Sat in his barn for 10+ years, he put battery charger on it and it fired right up and it doesn't smoke a lick. When these techys run good they really run good! First pic is from before I washed it

4 pointsLittle more on the muffler today. Made the cutout for the front outlet pipe and a rear brace to the engine. Also fitted the 418 exhaust guard. Still have to make a mounting bracket for it. Going to weld that to the brace that runs the right side under the hood and try to incorporate the coil and solenoid mount so they are up and out of the way.

3 pointsI saw this thing sitting by the metal scrap pile at the county dump today and I could not leave it there. I haven't looked to see if there's any brand names on it, but it's red! Unreal that someone would scrap this thing.

3 pointsFor financial reasons and Cecil's son not being interested it was sold to AMC in 1974. It was really just big business from then on. In 1982 it was sold to Munn Investment Group. Finally in 1986 Toro acquired Wheel Horse. Personally, since the Ponds no longer owned Wheel Horse I feel that Toro was the best move that could have happened. I doubt they would have been around until 2007 or the design completely changed (severely cheapened) if they hadn't. There's a nice blurb about it in a book written by the CEO of Toro.

3 pointsI was just about to cast my vote for the 416 when I saw this. I only use the twins for winter duty. I am convinced half the fuel generates HP and the other half generates heat. What doesn't the 1100 like about winter? I have four 1100s..... three lift instantly and one requires the warm up like the manual recommends.

2 pointsMounted mine low on the frame near the front axle, sort of a protected area and close to the carburetor. I ran a fused wire from the ignition coil to power it.
-
2 pointsFWIW, I mount mine on the frame in front of the hood stand. Lower than the tank and tucked out of the way. Also gives room to install a filter and convenient for servicing, if needed. Central to wiring as well.

2 pointsThank you Steve. My son gets all the credit for sticking the metal together. I just did the fit up. I wish I had the time and materials to make more but it's all I can do to get one done. I am planning on making a new fuel tank for it made of 1/8" aluminum sheet. Going to have my son weld that up for me too. He got into the right profession.

2 pointsWell, there will not be any measurable snow in Southeast New York this season. That's for sure. I need to put the winter attachments on my horses...then it will all fall in Cleveland and Buffalo.

2 pointsI had picked up the 44” blower over the summer, it was run on a 310-8 (bought that too). Was thinking of putting it on the 414, but that does too good as a plow tractor. The 16’s were the best choice because of power, with the edge going to the Onan with torque, since new though, that Eaton 1100 didn’t like winter, so on the C160 it goes!
-
2 pointsYup, sorry, I meant a 29.5" belt, but I jumped the gun on that anyway....the belt guard solved it. Thanks everyone for the help! I see where the bottom edge of the belt guard dishes out a bit towards the engine/trans side, so I see what you mean about adding washers to the spacers, which will push the guard out and give the belt a little more room on the bottom of its path. I think adding some washers are the right next step since the marks the belt left on the guard are all along the bottom and up into the trans pulley a little. I assume the ideal condition is the belt only contacting the guard when the clutch is in, but that may be tough for my old tractor and a brand new belt.

2 pointsYes Sylvan great bunch here ....don't anyone get me wrong that I am trying to bash other forums... I am well aware that other fellas here have other hobbies and interests. .. Atvs, boats, snomos, wood working, off road, Jeeps, trucks which is great... the list is endless. RS has just got them beat hands down as far as site layout and ease to communicate. They all offer a small fee much like here to become a "supporter" but yet the ads and the gibberish don't go away. Think I'll stick with my horses!

1 pointBought this C120 for $500 from a old guy didn't realize it when i bought it and its not the sellers fault he never put it on but somebody made new mounting brackets for the snowplow.. ok so thats not so bad but they cut the frame to short so I can't turn the plow it can only be straight. I will eventually either buy another plow or weld it a bunch lol. The deck is in pretty good shape it has a few rust holes not bad someone must have repainted it but I can't figure it out as it has all the decals all in good shape. The guy said that the belt was bad but i took the cover off and it was just the tenisoner spring broke bought a new one from tractor supply for $4. The motor sounds good but it is having a few issues it doesn't always run smooth and it sputters sometimes but at high throttle it runs fine. I will get into that soon when I have a little time. Overall I am happy with it just a little bummed out about the plow. Right now I just have some chains hooked up to it so I can raise it up, to at least get me through this winter.

1 pointWelllll, I have the new complete Deere deck, it seems like a decent heavily built 3mm thick deck pressing . The old WH deck is almost totally shot although the components are all serviceable. Had considered having my fabricator make a new flat top plate and skirt (still may) and make into rear discharge but the cost of the brand new Deere deck was half of the cost of a bare "copy" deck from a local guy and in the UK makes future parts supply much easier.

1 pointI would wait on the coil till you try points first ...I have replaced a few coils with your symptoms and never seemed to help. Sounds like you may have the problem on the run tho... triple check those needle settings and try some sea foam. I would guess yo maybe have replaceD crap fuel lines and added a quality fuel filter? @ericj either you have to tweak your spell checker or you have been watching too much of Fast Times at Ridgemont High... where exactly is the bong on a horse?!?!?
-
1 pointTook the carb apart and cleaned it up put it back on still has sputtering... but it doesn't need to be choked to run now. So I think its the timing/points so I will try to buy a feeler gauge tomorrow. And might buy a new coil as well.

1 pointThis Saturday Oct 21st This is a small but growing tractor, old equipment and antique auto show associated with the Czech Fest in La Grange Texas There's a lot going on including enjoying a little cold "pivo" to wash away that old dry farm dust. Antique saw mill and other permanent displays and old farmstead permanent displays and a Czech Tarok card tournament (a very challenging card game) http://www.czechtexas.org/heritage-fest-muziky/ I hope to make it but not sure yet PS "pivo" is Czech for beer,

1 pointThey are standard jic fittings. I took the original fittings to a hydraulic shop and purchased the 2 port sizes I needed then had the hoses made to custom length.

1 pointI started the restoration in 2009. Had to stop (work and life) finally got it back together last week. It still needs some stuff here and there but the hardest stuff is done

1 pointThe U1 battery will be loose in the battery box..(if it is original) and will need to be shimmed., The 22NF will fit snugly.

1 pointUpdate John, @shallowwatersailor, I got the boat moved to winter storage this morning and got your horses unloaded inside. I put a battery in the 312 and it turned over. I didn't try to start it as I was more interested in the 417. The 417 appeared to be locked up, so I took off the flywheel cover and I was able to turn it using the flywheel. It seems free now. I put 12v direct to the starter and it seemed to be locked, so I took off the tins and starter to find a rodent condo. I got the starter off and cleaned things up a bit and actually got the starter to run, but it has bearing issues. I will soak the thru bolts several days , then try to open it up. I don't know if this horse will ever run again, but he must feel better to get this crap out of his gut. To be continued.

1 pointI use a U1 battery in all of my Wheel Horses U1R has the negative terminal on the right as shown below. U1L is just the opposite.

1 pointYou HAVE had a fun time with the "Big D" I dearly love them but when one breaks it can be a handful! Your exhaust is similar to what I have done to my 180 & 200. I used a muffler listed as from "Cub Cadet" they are very reasonable and with the throttle at speed the sound sends cold chills down my spine I love it!
