Finally managed to fire up my partly restored C160 today! Ordered a new carb from China, a whole lot of paint and a new seat! Next step will be to see if I can save the old mower deck...

So I have been wanting to get this post up for a few weeks now. I want to start off by saying hello, my name is Ron, & I am addicted to Wheel Horses, LOL . A few weeks ago I got my first ever Wheel Horse garden tractor, a 1979 c101 8 speed. And it's in great condition. It was given to me by a dear friend from church, and I praise the Lord for him, because what a blessing it was. I got it with a 42 inch snow blower a 36 inch rear discharge deck a 42 inch side discharge deck and a rear blade attachment (that I am sure is not Wheel Horse). Here are a few pics. And then right now I am on my way back home from buying a 1974 C120 auto with a 36 inch tiller, 42 inch blade and 36 inch SD deck. The tractor is pretty wore out though. But the tiller and blade are in great condition. I have heard that seat is worth some money. Anybody have any idea what they go for on ebay? Any way, got to get back on the road. I'll post some more pics later.

Sorry but any Horse with more than 5 wires is no longer welcome here. My 418a (my newest) runs but the idiot lights died (twice) and i do not care any longer. Real men do not need interlocks, temp gauges, tachs, pressure gauges oil level switches etc.

As much as I like my 314-8, I wanted another Hydro. I have a C160 Automatic which is really my favorite, but last year it got to where it was unreliable-nothing major but still issues that cost me an hour or two every time I used it. I lucked into this '96 416 H a couple weeks ago. I had bought another 48" deck last winter so I was all set!! It is a nice well maintained tractor with a little over 1000 hours on it. NIce smooth power but it wants to surge at idle sometimes but not always. Only issue I have is I really don't like the column mounted direction control as much as the lever on the C160 but I'm starting to get used to it. I guess if I don't like it after using it a couple more times I will get Matt's foot control kit. Is there any trick (besides duct tape) to keeping the gasket/seal around the oil filter/shroud in place?? This one doesn't want to stay in place for very long.

Some weird/questionable looking stuff here. I also work on old farm tractors. I have become more tolerant and understanding over the years. My farmall m is older than I am 1944. Over the years some strange things have happened to her but she still works. farming is not easy and when your tractor conks out and there is hay to pick up before it rains you do what you have to do to get her back to work. sometimes it fails quickly and gets redone...sometimes the fix last for many many years..can't argue with success.

Got a hobby outside of tractors, yard work, or gardens? Spent two hours with the casting machine yesterday morning cranking out some 9mm bullets. 1/2-3/4 hr of time was spent in the machine getting up to temp. Now to size and lube them on a different machine. 35 lbs of 9mm 124gr bullets spread out on my cookie sheet. should be around 1950 + bullets. The machine with the pot is the casting machine with PID temp control. The sprew material is deposited in the white pan in front and the cast bullets go down the shoot to the rear. The machine with the handle is the sizing/ lube machine in which the bullets are forced thru a sizing die and lube is injected into the lube groove. The end product is ready to start loading.

A previous owner of one of my 953s must have broken the steering arm and couldn't find another so he did this.

Just found out about this. im gonna try and make it down there Saturday if the rains have ceased. maybe take my new to me RJ....

primer laid down. the dash tower has a cotton weed blow on it. one reason why i hate painting outside. but ill get it off tomorrow before shooting red. on the dash tower hanging on clothes line i put jb weld in has a filler due to major pitting, and i hate bondo so i heard of people using it so figured give it a shot and i didnt sand the jb weld down but looks good.the tower holding the tank is the 702 parts machine tower and its in need of alot of welding lol

They look like the wires for the voltage regulator. If so then the two together are the AC from the coil under the flywheel and they go to either side and the red DC out wire plugs into the middle. There should be a grey wire for the tach somewhere as well that also connects to one of the outside AC connections on the regulator. I think the yellow wire may go to the coil + terminal.

Backwards Richard but you are correct, The first one is more original chassis wise but the engine was funked, second one engine is orig but chassis is funky. That's the beauty of both tractors one has what the other needs. Will make for a good marriage I think. What's the chances of finding two tractors for less than 150 clams local like this? Think maybe the Ponds are looking out for me or the horses? Interesting notation about the boards, I had first glance thought they were just some cobbled on affair from not even a Was raining pitchforks & hammer handles the day I went to look at. After I got it home and did some more looking and come up with the speculation that a PO had a Raider that some things came off of? for the upside down pic Also note the sticker indent on the belt guard, is that correct? and the seat latch....the more I study my own pics the clearer things become about her sordid past! much better

Well I got a little time to mess with it today. And after cleaning the points and the carb. It RUNS amazing!!! No smoke, no sputtering no nothing. Purrs like a kitten!

Today as I swung myself into the seat getting ready to mow the lawn, I heard a crack. The kind that makes you sick to your stomach. Got off to see what happened and noticed the seat was loose. Well the pictures tell the rest of the story. Fortunately, three hours later, its as strong as ever and ready for another 35 years of seat banging.

Update: Delivered Uncle Slim's Commando 800 to his farm in Maine for first grass cut. Unistrut seat extensions & seat springs worked awesome for a 7 foot, 2" guy!

Saw this roached out RJ on asking $857.44 a few weeks ago. Seems no one was insane enough to pay that and the listing expired. So; they relisted nit for $ 1,100.

My first rifle was a Remington 788 in .222. Right out of the box it would group MOA In 1969 that rifle sold for $79.95 Some years went by and we wanted to go on a prairie dog hunt, so i figured i would glass bed the 788. Holy Crap on a Cracker. it will now shoot consistent groups that a dime will cover at 200 yards. . We all bought muzzle brakes and had a local gunsmith thread our barrels. Even though I had varmint weight barrels on the other rifles, the gunsmith made an adapter for that slim little tube so I could use the same brake. What a pleasure to watch the vapor trail of the bullet to the target because of nearly no recoil. That little rifle still holds a place in my heart

I'm not in the same league as you and 6b,but I improve every time I shoot. My eyes aren't great either as I wear contacts but I do like shooting with irons as opposed to optics.

Cast welding 101???

Hello everybody! My name is Jerry and i just bought a Raider 12 for my stepdaughter and i to restore and maybe modify. I am a jet engine mechanic by trade, my stepdaughter is going to an AG high school and is really getting into tractors. She said she loves them so i found an oldie for sale that looked ok and was within my budget. I really new to this stuff so i help you guys and gals will help me. First off, im trying to find out what year my tractor is. I have attached a photo of the ID tag. Hope someone can help. We want to do a full frame up restoration and maybe even enter it into a couple shows at the local fairs next year.

Hello Jerry and . You shouldn't have too much problem finding a deck they are out there. There is a ton of members in your area who will help you find one so a little networking with them maybe. I have two I would be willing to part with if I could get one out there. Put that Big Show on your bucket list of things to do for next year!

I wondered about that...just tried an experiment with a battery and spare starter motor. You are right. Reverse the lead and it spins the wrong way.

Little up date here as I recently scored on another 1055 that was local. Another non-runner fer sure and transmission in this one feels real gritty too and does not go into all gears. The good news is it does have the motor parts to make one out two so that's the plan. After some searching here there really isn't much here on RS on this model. In fact the only pictures I could find was of @953 nut's So I'm thinking while not rare just something we don't hear much of...the short frames with a big block. First thing will be to strip down both tractors to sort out the best motor & frame to start building on. Dash must have been changed out ... T handle controls & electric clutch switch hole???? I think the mud daubers liked those empty points holes! Also what's with the lever on the side of the fuel pump? From the duct tape files The bracket Tom mentioned Moss grows fat on a non rolling horse

got the rims sanded and primered and one side painted. rustoliums gloss white this is a quick repaint. just to freshen it up. dads wearing a mask and helping out with a drill and the black wheel. hes on blood thinner (due to blood clot) so i wont let him near wire wheel
