Finally Project Jr. is drivable this it before we test drove this beast She is ready to go after he over 20 year nap. tommarow the decals,different muffler,tuning and get the steeing wheel to fit on. How do i get the wheel to fit on the steering shaft it stuck on there but i cant get it off.

Currently this is the best I can do tonight, I will try for more pictures tomorrow when I'm home. The snowblower is in matching conditions with no rust and good paint.

I recently bought his little wheelhorse tractor off of a guy and he didn't have a clue about what model it is. I've been staring at and comparing pictures online for several days and I've not concluded exactly which model it is. The model tag is gone off of it but the serial number is 46567. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I disagree. It's a 63 model. The 604/654/704 used the full hood that covered the fuel tank, and the 854 used the black/chrome dash decal. Making it a 633/653/753 depending on the original engine. Serial numbers won't help you, They're not published anywhere.

Hi everybody, I'm new to the site and new to wheel horse's in general. I recently moved and needed a lawn tractor as well as for snow removal. I ran across a c161 twin Speed on craigslist. The tractor is in excellent condition as a restoration took place approximately 5 years ago. The tractor had sat for a couple years when I went to check it out. Tractor was starving for fuel. (used to be a small engine technician). That didn't bother me. I paid $950 for the tractor, which included the mower deck and a single stage snowblower. I later have found out that the c161 was a bit more rare and parts can be tougher to find. $100 in parts and a couple hours of my time that tractor runs great. Just curious if I over paid for the tractor and is it something i should be nervous about as far as parts. Thanks Guys, Mike

Nice looking tractor, the only thing that makes it more on the rarer side is the motor and the hood. Everything else is pretty much standard. Don't be surprised if the back fenders break on more or less go all to prices on you. Very common for that style. Very easily replaced with the standard metal fender seat pan. Some parts are still available new from Toro at astronomical prices, but most can be found on eBay or right here on Red Square or swap meet/tractor shows. As far as to what you paid. Your close to the top end. There again try and buy something of that quality new. You did alright and if taken care of will more than give you your money's worth.

10 ft piece of chain is about $20 at TSC and usually comes with one master link. Just buy another separate master link or two so you can use the leftover chain as a spare or for something else. To break the chain, I just grind off one side of both rivet heads and use a small punch and hammer to drive the link out.

I would leave the old pump bolted to the block and just bypass it. You can always remove the old pump and install a cover plate later after it gets warm out if you wish.

You done good. If you had gone to a Big Box Store and paid that amount you would have come out with a small piece of junk riding mower and a snow shovel!

This thing is gonna be a snow pushing horse...(horse) lolololo and there are a couple of members near Fenton,,,,they might chime in soon maybe......If it is clean and quiet....it sounds like the hard (fun) work has already been done,,,, MAybe sevice it....oil,change ,,,,the rear axle fluid,,,,,new fuel filter,,,and air filter....ethenol free fuel if needed....Oh,,,and new fuel lines.. You definitely are THE wood stove man Lowell. Free heat and hot water without the smoke, dirt, ashes, bugs, and danger of fire. Gotta luv that well engineered wood transporter with the opposite corner supports for easy loading.

Very interesting question Bob. I've never had the need to take one of these apart either. I do have one that is acting kind of funny so if there is no answer from anyone with knowledge of this, I'm willing to have at it to find out the answers and document the experiment.

I originally called it a 1963 like Jason is saying, but when I was looking at the serial numbers that Garry has listed in the "Manuals" section the 46567 lined up with the 854. It's got the star wheel for adjusting the lift lever so it is either a 63 or 64. More and better pictures would help. Something does not look right with that belt guard or the engine. I don't see an indent square in the guard...both the 1963 and 1964 appears to have that. Could be the picture, I think it has a different guard and the horse has been repainted. Nice looking round hood though. I have to look at the dash plaque thingy...Jason is pretty sharp. Edit to say I just looked at the 854 dash plates...it is a 1963 above...like Jason said.

Thanks everyone for the help. I'll take the advice, and just bypass the old pump for now. Good idea to just turn the outlet hose back on itself to the inlet. I just ordered the cover for the hole in the block, but it won't be going on until springtime. If I take all of the covers off of the engine now to get to the pump, it will surely cause a snow storm, and I won't have a working snow thrower to handle it. Happy Thanksgiving, Jim

O.k., I finally got the new sprocket welded on the auger. When I put the bearings in. They won't spin freely. I also cleaned the auger openings with mesh cloth. Is this normal. Model 0642ST07 bearing # 1630 2RS I found the problem guys!!

Yeah , that is what I did -just leave it but block the ports ..no vacuum leak that way...

Anyone remember these? For sale on ebay for $499. I must have destroyed $10,000 dollars worth of these when I turned them into ash trays by tapping the top of the cone with a ball peen hammer till the cone was inverted down into the can.

I've been out a few times this gun season, I lost my "spot" that I was given permission to hunt the last few years and I found out 2 hours before dark on the 14th. (Gun season opens the 15th in MI) I made a couple calls and landed a nice blind with a lot of deer tracks surrounding. I've only seen squirrels and birds the last week and 200 lbs total of corn, apples, sugar beets and carrots have disappeared. I laid down some minerals in the ground and have a lot of tracks through there too, but still haven't seen a single deer. Warm windy days and full bright moons are helping with that I suppose. I haven't been able to stay out past 3 pm though, so Friday after cutting wood I think I'll have time to sit until dark and hope for the best!

That whole setup is pretty sweet. A+ on the trolly system.

I was in the eighth grade in class (oddly enough, in history class I believe) at East School in Gas City , IN. The principal made the announcement on the intercom. We were then told to go to our combined 7th & 8th grade study hall. I think the administration was struggling with what they were going to do with us or say to us. A short time later we were all released to go home. Hardly a word was spoken from the time the announcement was made to the time we were dismissed. Everyone was in total, stunned, shock. I had turned 15 just the day before. The reality of life smacked us innocents in the face that day. I can remember Cronkite's reaction to it almost brought a seasoned hard nosed journalist/broadcaster to tears on national television. We almost encountered the same situation less than 20 years later when President Reagan was shot by John Hinckley.

I agree with Glenn. Some folks prefer to get something inexpensive and then pour money and lots of time into it. You paid basically 1050 total, and the snowblower if in similar shape is good for ~ 200. ~ 800 for a well running recentish refresh/restore is not smoking good deal but not too bad. The tractor parts that differ from most of that era are primarily the engine, hood and headlight lens. I have a Twin Briggs Hydro C-161 and really like the engine. Although Kohlers are the mainstream. Enjoy your tractor!

I was at Ross Elementary School (Gary, Indiana) in the sixith grade. The secretary of the school came into the classroom and told our teacher something. He indicated that the President had been shot and taken to the hospital in Dallas, Texas. We wer all taken to the school cafeteria which had to large black and white televisions on wheeled metal stands. When we started watching the TV's were on NBC I recall. They were turned to CBS and that is when Walter Cronkhite announced that he had died at Parkland Hospital. School was not released early. We stayed in the cafeteria watching until 3:30 . I lived a block from the school and walked home where we kept the TV on through the funeral on Monday.

Depends on the temperature of course but if it's below 20° out twice a day and above 20° once a day and if I'm just heating the water in the summertime about once every 5 to 6 days

My stove is an outside wood boiler. It heats the house, shop and water and I have also included some pictures of my wood shed and trolley system that I made to fill the stove.

Ok, I got my New Holland 2 stage and cab home today. Its going on the 522xi. I would like to have an extra belt around and maybe a extra chain. This came off an 80 hour machine I dont anticipate problems, but thats when you get bit. These were made by toro wheel horse for new holland. Identical but for the paint color. There is a picture with model / serial number. Who knows where to get these items? we all luv pictures, so here are a few, I have plenty of dirt to clean off them, and some touch up to do. These 2 stage xi units are BIG....... oh, and a fwiw, my mint used twice and not by me xi single snowthrower will be in the classified shortly, WITH my xi blade. keep your eyes peeled. Another vote for leaving the pump in place and bypassing it. That's what I did on both of my 520H. BTW, I have no regrets. Mine both fire up on the first or second revolution. That wasn't the case before. Kurt

Been there, done that. They're voles, not moles. Voles are vegetarians. I've seen a plant shake many times and then that sucker disappears underground just like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. I've tried gum, several brands, chewed and unchewed, mole traps, flooding, rat traps, mice traps, smoke, windmills and battery operated vibrators you put in the ground and soalr power vibrators you put in the ground. NOTHING WORKS. The best thing I have is my cat. He gets 1 or 2 a day. But those Voles are still destroying root systems. There has to be dozens of them living underground. When my cat doesn't eat one I take it and shove it in one of the exit holes to let others know this is what they have to look forward to.
