I had all three of my 1958 RJ's outside for a breath of fresh air today,. The RJ on the far left (correction : FAR RIGHT) is the one I have been redoing this year. My idler arm is done for it and I pick it up at the local machine shop on Monday. I can't wait to get it moving under 4 HP Kohler power!

Well I spotted this on for a good price , but had a very vague description . Had the wife message him to ask a couple questions . Said it was a running driving tractor and cart came with it . So the wife hit the button , it was mine . When I talked to the owner on the phone he said he just no longer needed it . He worked as a mechanic , and always maintained the tractor and purrs like a kitten . It needs a choke cable , seat (the original is flatten out under the new cushion) maybe rear tires . He was kinda upset because someone stole the hood ornament . Said it was a prancing horse and was his favorite part of tractor . The cart is pretty rough but it looks to be a early one ? All in all I think I did pretty good for what I paid . Son got off the truck and tested out the mower , ran and mowed great until it ran out of fuel ( hope that's it) . So here's my new to me 856 .

The B-17 is in town today for its display and rides. I seen him come in yesterday and he has been making quite a few trips today. I went over early this morning to see it as I always do.I only live a 1/2 mile from the airstrip. My Uncle flew Bombers in WWII across the channel but most of his runs were in the Liberator but he was qualified in all of them.

Even I wouldn't touch that line with a ten foot pole!

If only I could see it. I hope today I can, but it's not mint, that was my first 520, that was clean. This one was worked by the owner, lawn cutting and snowthrower for the driveway. Me and the owner have been having trouble with our timing. They are moving on Sept. 30th. So they have been very busy on their end. But I think today will be the day. BTW: let's not forget today, Sept. 11th. A tragic day for our country. Pray for the lost souls. Glenn

picked up this early RJ today serial #1516 today from @fireman this is a real nice tractor, with RJ-35 front rims. Got the oil bath and schnacke with it too. I plan to restore this tractor! Thanks fireman I'm very happy with the purchase! What do you all think?

Got my wife out on our (my) c141(mistress) today. I don't get to see her in action very often as I'm the one ridding her. She looks just as good coming as she does going. She aint no zero turn, but I wouldn't trade her in! (You can decide if I'm talking about my wife or c141, I won't tell her the answers)

A COUSIN was going to scrap it but is now charging YOU $250 for it?????????????? What's up with that? He should give it to you or at least for the money he was going to get at the scrap yard, which wasn't going to be much.

I sort of split the difference and went with open aircraft cable through guides and tubes. Cable is stainless steel so should be no problem with corrosion.

It was really nice meeting you FINALLY today Terry! Thanks for coming up. You're going to enjoy meeting Eric too when he comes after his cart...probably nobody more knowledgable about RJ's. It it was nice having Ed from Indiana here too. He put in a long day today. Four tractors, the cart, a tiller, and some odds and ends left here today. I'm really enjoying this part of the hobby sending these things out the door to better homes. Hope you enjoy the tractor! Steve

Runs good, and has been repainted by the previous owner. It's not perfect, but still pretty good. I sold the tiller a while back. The lights all work and it now has the tailight on it.

Spent yesterday checking her from top to bottom, everything was in great shape except for the broken rod in the engine. Was thinkimg about going Kohler but since it's all ariginal I'm gonna keep it that way.

Yes I know , this is the last tractor for awhile . I have a 40' x 60' barn with just a path for me to go from one door to the other , rather embarrassing . A shop half built on one end and crap everywhere . Kids can't ever put anything back where it goes . For those of you who know it's not like I can do myself . Hopefully soon it will be getting cleaned up , before the cold weather sets in .
  17. 5 points
For a stranger it would have been $ 40; but since you are kinfolk it is $ 250. Sound like he must be a part of my family!

Yea we are all moved! And my wife wanted to start a compost. Kids loved the ride, also when I drove in front of tractor supply the 2 gentlemen at the registers walked up to the doors and checked the 753 out! Lol they don't have to many old garden tractors down here.

We was told by a cousin he has a wheel horse he was going to scrap. we told him no. i am currently saving money to be able to get it. we have no idea year or model of it but he said it looks like my dads round hoods. keeping fingers crossed. getting it for 250 with 32 inch deck and 42 plow. deck was rebuilt a little over 5 years ago then machine was parked.

Well guys I've been crazy busy with moving and once I got here the house had been let go so yard was waist high. Had a guy mow it twice with zero turn and I have mowed twice, it's still has tons of grass we have to rake up and that's where the 753 comes to help haul it away! O and it took me and my kids down to dollar general and tractor supply down the road lol. IMG_2688.MOV

Leveling some topsoil today and brought the RJ out instead of 857. Enjoyed the beautiful weather and seat time on a classic. amazing what a 4hp Kohler can do!

AC, I'll be 59 years old tomorrow. Do you have any idea how many times I've heard somebody say this? LOL

Mag ignitions have point. i would start by cleaning them (or replacing) and gap to .020. Mag ignition spark plug gap is only .025. also disconnect the kill wire from the mag terminal on the switch (it may be faulty and grounding it when it shouldn't be. (note; if she runs you will have to short the plug to stop her) If you get some spark that is a good sign...most times mags work or they do not work at all. Edit; Condensers are cheap get a new one

I like them original and dirty . That's the plan for now .

Adam, My 110 is pretty nice and really needs nothing. I have hubcaps for it and it has a front weight bracket for suitcase weights. I'll start a thread on it in the off-brand section below. Randy, I hear you on the mileage of the 4.7, but it does have plenty of power. In fact it has more power and tows better than m son-in-laws 5.4 in his F150. I took more pictures this morning with the hood off.

When the wife said yea , couldn't believe it ! Bought it on @stevasaurus 's birthday . Sent the boy to go pick it up this afternoon .

I think you need a passport to get in that country. Luckily I sneaked in and didn't have to go through customs like some do. I think Steve was a bit conservative on his view of this 701. It's in nicer shape than what he led me to believe. Now I'm thinking how to get more of the red machines out of his dad's barn.

Well I picked this Suburban up early this summer and finally have some time and nicer weather to get started. I have the front half stripped down to the frame rails and wil be getting ready to do some sandblasting soon. I have high hopes for this one but not looking to build a show tractor. I want to use this one as a pull tractor around the yard and maybe whatever else I can think of. I respect the work and attention to detail of you purists out there( and it's phenomenal !) but I would enjoy it more by using it .Anyways I will post more pics of progress and thanks for a great forum to help me. Be back soon.

I mounted this loader on one of my 520H's, it's a Sears Smipson made in Canada. They are a very good loader. I will post more pics later on how I hooked it up. The rims are altered , made extra wide.

Happy Birthday Van, and many more! I am right behind you fella, will hit 58 later this week.

Glad to hear that! For some reason I have been worried about breaking a rear axle on my pair of 520H's lately. My father-in-law broke an axle on his '91 520H blading snow while using 23x10.50x12 turf tires and tire chains 10 years ago..... Guess it's just the luck of the draw for rear axle strength. I replaced a ton of GM camshafts under warranty in the late '70's due to soft cam manufacturing failures and to this day remember how they blamed 10 W 40 oil (Q State for the most part) for the premature wear on the cam lobes..... I always got stuck with the conversion vans.......probably because I was the shop foreman at the time and made the dealers son actually get dirty for his pay!!! It was my job to make a man outta him!!! So I was told.....

All mighty fine 's Lane... definitely worthy of a Three Amigo Salute.

No, I had one a few years ago that I built a wt. box for and had 600lbs in it and wide rims and I used it for a year and sold it. And my friend is still using it 6 or 7 years later and no problems.

Some fine looking tractors there Lane. Its good to give them some fresh air on occasion.

Nice score on a running machine!!!

That little cart is the correct year for the RJ or Suburban. I have one and the fit in the later model slot hitch is a bit sloppy, but it is great on the early round hoods. The draw bar on it is a real engineering marvel! The shot frame tractors are neat, I keep a snow blade on mine year round.

Thanks guys... Gonna work on it some more today! And yes the kids help with the wheel borrow and tonka truck! Lol Forgot to share this picture

I've been reading this thread and there is something that bothers me. If this is a C-101 with an original engine, all 1978 and 1979 C-101's came equipped with a K241AS-46766D engine, which is NOT magneto, but battery ignition. You said it is a magneto system. Find the label on the engine and give us the numbers.

Acquired this 315-8 last week . Overall it's basically the same as my 1987/310-8. 414 hrs, very clean machine. even though it was in very nice clean shape here is what I did: Drained the transaxle, let it run with diesel fuel to clean it,(on blocks of course) then filled with new gear oil New gas line and gas filter checked and cleaned all electrical connections , switches etc. cleaned the frame of some gooy build up around the motor and oil filter as well as some dirt and build up around the transaxle area changed oil/filter and air filters cleaned and lubed the choke, throttle cables and carb linkage grease checked tire pressures , 12 psi x 4 cleaned deck underside and painted it greased spindles, checked, cleaned and oiled pulleys inspected all belts, so far so good ! sharpened blades whats next ? Top of the hood has some scratches so some sanding priming, masking and red paint is required. The rear fender although is in good shape will be repainted as one area has some mild blemishes. I probably went a tad overboard but when things are apart , your hands and tools are oil'y, may as well go the distance. I now know exactly what I have . A new reference.

Not really,, Craig seldom takes more than a minute!

It lives. It runs on his own. But, the starter/generator isn't mounted yet, and the throttle cable is frozen, and the choke cable is missing. It needs to be rewire, provided the S/G works. But, it runs and it sounded pretty good.

There's only two green and yellow tractors I'd own . A 1963-110 , and the big ole 6030 AG tractor . That was even hard for me to admit !
