Yesterday was a long, hot, humid day.......but fun to say the least. I have tried my best to cut my herd down but have found that it is much harder than I anticipated. Due to my sickness, I have moved a few machines over to my dads house, and then I moved some over to my moms house, and now I brought some more home and am scratching my head. I know many of you folks would be happy to lend a hand but I think I will figure it all out! Here is the "mess!" Oh and yes.....it did take 2 trailers to get this home.

Was at the local "parts house" to pick up and order a couple of parts and just asked (joking) if they had a flywheel shroud/fan cover for a Kohler K301AS. The guy looked at me and said "you serious?" "I got one in the back that's been here forever" He brought it out, still in the plastic wrap covered with dust and had the original 6 digit part number Double checked the number/s and found it was the one I needed (the old one had a big piece missing where the coil attaches - must have 180 lbs of torque to attach the coil) Told him I had a lead on one in Richmond for $30 bucks + shipping He asked if $50 was OK? Didn't even have to think about it!!

Thanks guys! Yea AC it's that same one. I'm very excited to have it with the sickle bar! I'm gonna have to get new front wheels and all new tires. Had wheel weights on the inside that I may sell also.

8-11-1973 “American Graffiti” released On this day in 1973, “American Graffiti,” a nostalgic coming-of-age tale set on the streets and steeped in the car-centric culture of suburban California, is released in theaters across the United States. The movie went on to become a sleeper hit. “American Graffiti” was the second full-length feature film directed by George Lucas, who would later become best known for the blockbuster hit “Star Wars” (1977) and its sequels. Set in 1962, “American Graffiti” follows a group of teenage friends who meet in the parking lot of a local drive-in restaurant on the last night before two of them (played by Richard Dreyfuss and Ron Howard) plan to leave town to go to college. They spend much of the night cruising the streets of their hometown of Modesto, California (where Lucas himself grew up and developed an early passion for automobiles and car racing), in cars ranging from a yellow “deuce coupe” to a 1958 Chevy Impala, while some of the film’s most memorable scenes feature a white 1955 Ford Thunderbird driven by a mysterious blonde. Released in 1973–the same year in which an embargo declared by the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) sparked an international oil crisis–“American Graffiti” was the first in a series of movies and television shows that evoked nostalgia for the more carefree days of the 1950s and early ’60s and the iconic cars that defined the era. The oil crisis of 1973 would usher in an era of hard times for the American automobile industry, including a surge in sales of foreign-made cars, but many Americans took comfort in the glamorous image of driving–or “cruising”–that “American Graffiti” celebrated. The 1970s saw a boom in classic-car restoration, even as more and more Americans were driving Japanese imports. The era also saw an increasing number of “lowriders”–or classic cars or trucks with suspensions that had been modified so that they rode as low to the ground as possible. According to an Associated Press article about a 2008 exhibition at L.A.’s Petersen Automotive Museum called “La Vida Lowrider,” lowriding as a pastime spread outwards from Hispanic neighborhoods in the southwestern United States in the 1970s, and later caught on with enthusiasts as far away as Europe and Asia. This boom in the 1970s was triggered largely by movies such as “American Graffiti,” “Corvette Summer” (1978) and “Boulevard Nights” (1979) and TV shows like “Chico and the Man” (1974-78). In 1975, the band War scored a hit with their single “Low Rider,” which channeled the same cool, cruising suburban culture that made “American Graffiti” a hit.

Got my 2nd horse home, picked up this 310-8 from the woman's grandparents, needs a lil TLC but it'll be a good worker. Next to follow me home was his 753 that he gave me. Love this site and really appreciate all the tips tricks and help i learn from everyone here, a lot of work ahead finishing the raider 12 and then on to the 753.

With all the record heat this year, I thought it might be nice to see some snow pictures for past years. Add some if you have them.

January 23 and 16 " on the ground of what would eventually total out at 36" of snow. The county didn't plow us out until five days later.

This is a buddy's Dixon high speed zero turn. I guess they are somewhat of a high end machine and this one was at least 6k+ new. Buddy's wife was mowing flat out full throttle when this happened can you imagine the surprise!?!? Going to stop over at his house tonite to help get it back on as new studs & nuts are in order. In checking the 4 bolt hubs they are dinky, my Suburban hubs are more stouter not to mention the larger 5 bolt ones on our bigger horses! The rest of this machine is pretty heavy tho.... the chains the deck hangs off of gotta be at least 3/8" & role over bar is massive. I guess it pays to check the nuts for tighness every now and then!

Thanks Jeff...that was taken at Lord's Park...a couple of blocks from my house. It was the first snow this last winter...it was also first ice. You can see the geese standing on the ice...it was fun watching them get used to the ice. Here is the other one from there. I've been wanting to take a horse down there for a photo shoot. You should see this place in the fall.

Forgot to add that both came with decks and snow blades. Had to do a minor tuneup on the 310-8(adjust valves, set points, new fuel filter, lines n plug and she runs like a top.) I love these old Kohler's. I own and run a scrap yard and every time I see these motors or machines come through I just can't help but snag them up!

I built the exact tractor that you are talking about! Started with an 854 that was missing the motor, hood , belt guard and a lot more. Found a pretty nice square hood and built my own version.

No, fellas...just reminiscing. Already been there, done that.

I think I will quit fighting the urge anymore. Seems to be easier to just roll with it and enjoy the ride. The smile on my 7 year olds face yesterday was priceless! He was enjoying the car ride, loading the goodies, and heading home as much as I did.

I don't think you have a sickness . You are planning for the future. On the days when you have finished your chores and nothing on TV you can inventory all the pieces and figure out how many tractors you can build. My family motto is " never throw away anything you will need it tomorrow".

    Congratulations on a great find!

Once you get enough of them they stop noticing when a new on shows up. At least that's what I heard. I'm apparently not to that point yet, but it is a goal of mine.

Yep, it was me. Thanks for all the concern! Still haven't done much of anything. Work, family, soccer, dance, softball, fishing, apathy, etc...all get in the way. I did sell two that were kind of in my way in the garage, but that's it. Depending on the weather, this might be the weekend I drag things out and take pictures. But if it's nice and the White Bass are still biting at Carlyle, then I might have a dilemma. Steve

I dropped a hint of that tractor for sale on one of my post (couldn't believe no one messaged me) . I'm sure glad you got it , and the funny thing was , the ad right by it saying " wanted Wheel Horse tractors" with a picture of a 60-61 Sububan . I thought it was a steel for he wanted . Great haul , here is my quote " I've come across some rare items (a Sububan with front mount sicklebar project for one) RJ's , Sububan's , round hoods "

Scott, I was starting to be a little concerned about you. Not a Mod. anymore, last M@G, and selling off some of your heard. But then this, your selling 3, and bought at least 5 more, Looks like it's all good. Chris.

Keep in mind that many shops have an hourly rate of close to $100. I am not surprised at this price. It's rare to even have a shop that can do a rebuild these days (at least here in Tallahassee). While it might be easy for some to do a rebuild, many of us don't have anybody to guide us through, or trusted machine shop that can or will work on these smaller engines.
