Had the 161 out cleaning up around the place and then jumped on the 701 and went for a trip around the neighborhood. My wife just shakes her head. Someday I hope she understands.

My wife & I celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary picking up some parts for her Gilson at "ALMOST HEAVEN GARDEN TRACTOR SALVAGE" on Saturday. Do we know how to have fun or what!

A good day on the Delaware Bay yielded a nice catch of white perch and hard shell crabs. And we had the bluebird weather.

Not sure why but, I've noticed the my stratigically placed rollers I have in the back yard... always seem to attract a lot of attention from any, and all the wildlife we have in the area. Thought it would be interesting to see the diversity of wildlife that visits your yard too. Any you might like to share, feel free to dump 'em here.

Recently bought my 1st Wheel Horse. 1999 Model 314 8 which came with a 44" 2 stage tall chute blower and 'Original' soft cab. I assembled the cab frame and attached the wrap, but the doors have a front to rear descending gap...Opps...figured it out myself when taking pics for upload. Failed to raise doors to bar latch.

Not too distructive but a pain in the butt when it comes to bird feeders and garbage cans! That pole is 5'4". with bird seed on top.

The Allis B-112 that you saw was bought from an old neighbor of mine but since I could never keep it running, I decided to sell it. As for the AC connection, I have always liked the looks of any Allis Chalmers tractors. Yes, I'm 100% a John Deere guy, however I still like the looks of other tractor brands. As for the barrel train car, I'm on the committee of a local tractor show and we decided to build our own train. Since there were other John Deere collector committee members, I decided to do an Allis Chalmers to keep peace with the other members. It was made to resemble a model 7080.

With the C-120 I picked up a few weeks ago the fellow said he had some engine manuals he didn't need anymore. Finally had time to go through the stack of manuals this weekend. This is just the Kohler manuals/parts lists.

My wife took this picture from the window of her Quilting room. Little guy didn't harm the feeder, just stood there munching down bird food.

Congrats on the 22nd. Celebrated our 25th this past weekend too... and managed to combine the occasion with picking up more parts.

Speaking of destructive. no pics but I have some moles in the back yard. I was walking around and noticed the ground started to rise about 6 inches more than normal. I had a travel trailer parked at my Dads and when I went to move it, the tires were off the ground from the moles picking the darn thing up!

That's what I did. To the fab shop and they cut what I needed for the edge. It might have been ¼"x2"x42". $8.00. From Toro I think $32.00. I drilled the holes.

Well since it seems next to impossible to locate a decent grader/belly blade for less than an arm and leg, I decided to fashion my own blade with a 42" dozer blade I picked up for free earlier this year. I cut the blade in half lengthwise and added a six-inch section to each end to get a total width of 54". Here is my progress.

My 3 520H's, a 520HC, a 210-5, and a 111-6 were very dusty so they all got a wash. They will dry in the sun then get put away for a while as my lawn is quite dry and not growing much right now.

Property down the street was recently sold and this little red Wheel Horse wagon ended cup beside the shed - ask the new owner where it came from he had no idea and didn't want it..... told me to take it ...I know the guy so I told him it was somewhat of a collectors item and worth a little money ....he didn't care ....get it out of here ....take it. Was going to sell it and look for a good home for the thing , but after I got it home , really solid and not one thing wrong .....think I might just keep it . 8-7-2005 Trapped Russian sub rescued On this day in 2005, a Russian Priz AS-28 mini-submarine, with seven crew members on board, is rescued from deep in the Pacific Ocean. On August 4, the vessel had been taking part in training exercises in Beryozovaya Bay, off the coast of Russia’s far-eastern Kamchatka peninsula, when its propellers became entangled in cables that were part of Russia’s coastal monitoring system. Unable to surface, the sub’s crew was stranded in the dark, freezing submarine for more than three days. At 1 p.m. on August 4, the Priz, trapped at 190 meters below the ocean surface, issued a mayday call. The Russian navy soon began to organize a rescue mission, asking for help from the United Kingdom, United States and Japan. In the ensuing days, while the three countries mobilized rescue crews for the trip to eastern Russia, the Russian navy attempted to first lift the sub from the water and later to drag it to shallower water where it could be reached by divers. Both approaches were complicated by the 60-ton anchor attached to the cables that had ensnared the sub. Finally, with fears mounting that the trapped crew’s oxygen supply would soon run out, the six-man crew of a British-owned-and-operated Scorpio-45 rescue sub arrived and was able to cut the sub loose. All seven on board, which included six Russian navy seamen and one representative of the company that made the sub, survived the ordeal.

Next came the frame. First thing to notice is the hood support is a little bent. Not sure how to straighten it yet, but I'll come up with something. As of right now, the steering shaft doesn't line up with the shaft support tube on the frame. There is also some added weld to the top edges of the frame, so I'll grind all of them away before applying a finish coat. It took a long time to strip the old paint off of this frame, especially since I'm using a grinder with a wire wheel, but each time I removed paint and got things down to bare metal, I'd apply a coat of primer to keep the rust to a minimum. It's finally completely stripped, primed, and ready for additional primer to fill in some small rust pits. I also worked at getting the toolbox completely stripped and primed, however this had a lot of small rust pits as well, mostly where the fenders mount up, but some on the front and back sides as well. So, this will get a couple of primer coats, then sanded smooth, and re-primered before getting any finish coats applied. Since I'm new here on the site, and don't know a whole lot of you guys yet, I thought I'd ask to see how the group feels about some minor customization? Nothing huge, just painting some minor parts different colors other than the red it was supposed to be? I don't want to offend anyone here, so that is why I'm asking. For instance, the brake drum should be painted red, but I elected to paint it black. The brake rod should be red as well, but I elected to paint it silver. The steering shaft and center hub will be red as it's supposed to be, but after cleaning up the spokes of the steering wheel, I was thinking about shining up the metal and keeping them their natural metal just as an added twist. Again, not major or drastic changes, but rather some that will set the tractor off a bit and maybe make it look a little more personal. When I do my restorations, I like to change things up a bit. In most cases, I try not to use more than three color variations to any brand, however with this being a Wheel Horse, my color selections are Red, White, Black, and Silver. All of which will combine rather nicely together when all is said and done.

A fellow collector Friend of mine knew I was searching for Wheel Horse rear rims and tires, and came through for me big time! Nice original 6-12 Turf-Savers with minimal dry-rot and a good set of rims that don't have a lot of rust. The rims have been sanded, primed, and now have a couple coats of finish applied. I spent 3 1/2 hours cleaning up the tires, but I think it was well worth the effort as they turned out nice. I pondered the thought of white lettering the tires for a couple of days, and finally pulled the trigger and just did it. I think they'll look nice once mounted to the tractor. They'll look even better once they're all shined up. The only thing I noticed wrong so far is, the tires are mounted backwards on the rims, so now I'll have to dismount them and change them around!! Here I have to apologize, as I didn't take a before picture so you'll just have to take my word for it when I say the original seat cushion was bad. It had numerous stains on it and was very dirty. So much so, that I thought it was ruined. However due to it not being all torn up or having major splits in it, I had to try and clean it up. I scrubbed it with Comet powder cleaner for about a half hour, then hung it on the wash line the following day to see if it will bleach any, and sure enough it did! What a major difference. I couldn't believe my eyes when I came home from work and saw it. I have since scrubbed it a second time with Comet cleaner and bleached it on the line again, but I think it's bleached as far as it will go. I then rubbed it down real good with Armorall so that the vinyl will stay soft and won't dry out, so all I need to do now is buy some new string and string it through the hole and this is ready to be mounted.

My main reason for joining up here is due to the recently acquired Wheel Horse RJ, however for the past 27 years I have been collecting John Deere's. My collection consists mostly of the round fender 110's and 112's, but I do have a couple of flat fender 120's, 140's, and a 110. My biggest goal has finally been accomplished back in 2009, and that was completing the entire round fender collection, meaning I now have all 5 years and all 11 models made throughout the 5 years that these round fender have been produced. I also have numerous attachments and accessories for these old machines as well as all of the tire types, sizes and brands made from 1963 through 1967. They take up a lot of room when it comes to storing them all, but somehow I'm always finding a way to squeeze in another one. I don't have pictures of the entire collection yet, and they aren't all restored yet either, but I recently started unloading the garage so that I could update the collection for insurance reasons, so here are some pictures of what I have out currently: 1963 110 1964 110 1965 110 1966 110 1966 110H 1966 112 1966 112H 1967 110 1967 110H 1967 112 1967 112H Second 1963 110 Second 1965 110 Second 1966 110 Third 1966 110 Second 1967 110 1967 60 1969 60: 1971 70: 1973 70 1974 70 1970 120 1970 140H3 1973 110

Well the 414 I added to is basically the same as a C160, I did it because I put a loader on the 414. Before the loader was on a C141. It was tremendously hard to steer. The reduction steering made it steer 3 times easier and the added wider front stance helped in making it more steady. Plus the bigger bearings and more HD spindle's made it better for loader use.

This is what I bought, not sure if it's correct or not, however it will bolt up. It does have the rubber handle, I just put it back in the box so that I could paint the recoil. I'll take a picture of the backside today and post it later this afternoon for you to check out. Thanks for the help!

Great looking green Collection. i mowed on a green one for almost 30 years before I ever saw or heard of a red WH. i was looking for a green round fender to restore and somehow ended up coming across a WH. In the end, I like all colors of tractors!

Troy, I always like seeing pictures of your collection. I amazed at your dedication to finding all years, all models. Most here probably don't know how rare a '63 110 is or how even rarer a '66 112H is. Those are the holy grails of the round fender JDs. Production numbers on those models are very low, so finding them is difficult. And when you do, they cost a lot. For instance, a '63 110 recently came up for sale on WFM: http://www.wfmachines.com/forums/showthread.php/69210-1963-110-With-Deck $3500 in it's rusty, current condition. I have had the green fever for years now, but I haven't been as dedicated to a certain model or year range. I have had several RF 110s, a couple of RF 112s, a 318, a 316 Onan, a couple of 214s, a couple of 210s, a 208, a 430, a 140H1, a 445, etc. I have narrowed down my JD collection to just my '66 110, my '04 GX345, a 717 zero turn that I used to mow with, and a '06 X320 that my wife won't let me get rid of. I would love to have a 140H3 or a RF 110H, but just haven't really been looking seriously for either. I also had several Cub Cadets in the past during my yellow and white phase. I had several 104s, a 122, a couple of 123s, a 1250, a 1641 and a couple of newer 2135s. For some reason the 104s seem to be plentiful in my area. A friend of my has over 20 Cub Cadets, most of them the narrow frames and yes, he has several 104s. He personally likes the 70 and 100s the best, as those are probably the most collectible. I like the old Cases and Ingersolls and wouldn't mind having one. You can still get a big wheel Ingersoll new as those are still in production by Eastman Industries. Maybe some day I will post pictures of all the tractor's I've owned that I still have pictures of.

I have put reduction on a 90 520. Yes you have to switch everything. Upper and lower steering shafts. I also had to grind away a tad bit of the lift bell crank because the upper arm would rub the bevel gear on the reduction steering block. Had the same interference when I put it on a 414. I have heard that some conversions where people have not had to grind the bell crank. It's only just a tad so any slight amount the holes would be off during assembly at the factory would cause this. I put it on my 90 520 because I used a 60 deck and a 2 stage snow blower. It was a bear trying to steer with those attachments on. I have since got rid of that monster 60 inch because it was too hard on the tractor and the 2 stage went by the way side also. Remember there is a give and take effect when putting on steering reduction. You have to turn the wheel more than with standard steering. If you have a lot of in's and out's and round and round to mow around it will work you harder, but you will get use to it. Plus I think it turns a little sharper.
  40. 2 points
Agree, I added the complete 520 with gear reduction steering to a 74 C160 and only had to drill two holes for the reduction mounting block...
  41. 2 points
I think there are two holes you have to drill to make any not-previously-equipped tractor bolt up the gear reduction steering. I am assuming they did not have the proper mounting holes in place prior to 1991 or on any other models. You would also probably have to swap everything from the front triangle on back to the steering wheel shaft to accomplish this. Don't hold me to that but that is my gathered knowledge.
  42. 2 points
It's your tractor and your creativity will make it yours. Don't worry about offending anyone, it's all about personal preference. I happen to like the idea of breaking up all that red, myself.

If you decide to part with it, I'd be happy to give you double your investment.

The '88 and '89 520-H were just like the regular Wheel Horse tractors with regards to front axles. The 520-HC from '88 and '89 plus the '90 520-H had the swept axle for the 60" deck but didn't have the gear reduction steering. Wheel Horse and Toro compensated by using a larger steering wheel. The 60" mower deck's weight was still too much and so the gear reduction steering further refined the product making it easier to steer. From '91 on, the 520-H had both the swept axle and gear reduction steering.

So now on to the motor. Never had it or heard it running, so curious to see how the inside looks. drained the oil, removed the head and pan, and this is what I found. Hardly any carbon build up at all, and everything internally is clean and tight as it should be. Even the valves look good. No markings on the piston, so I have to assume this is the original piston and the motor was never rebuilt before. I'm thinking I may just put everything back together with new gaskets, and take my chances. So what would you guys do? Rebuild it or let it alone? Maybe just hone the cylinder wall and lap the valves? Looking for some advice here.

In addition to lots of photos, keep the sub assemblies separated and all the hardware associated with the subs in baggies. It used to be that the manuals had all the hardware listed by size/description. Now, I think they are all toro P/N's. However, I happen to have the IPL manual for the C141 so if you want a copy of the original circa 1978-79, pm me.

That's the same thing I have heard people say about my 66 F350 with the 352 and 4 speed that I use for hauling brush and firewood off of location on tree jobs...the old girl may be slow but she always starts right up and works hard until the job is done...and when repairs do need to be made...parts are relatively cheap and I can do the work myself.
