13 pointsHi everyone. I just joined here yesterday and would like to share a few pictures of my 1257 horse. Still on the look out for a plow assembly. But here she is. My dad owned it for 8 years. He had to move and down size so I inherited it. He took every nut and bolt off and painted it all by hand. I painted the wheels put on the lights and got it to run smooth again along with new battery plug a new wire and coil. She's a work in progress.

8 pointsLast year I finally got the folks up the street to turn loose of the 1267 sitting out nest to the shed with a piece of plywood on top of it. Then a few weeks ago I happened across tis 520 Hydro for an acceptable price. Guess this makes me a Wheel Horse guy. Im happy with the title. Love these little tractors. The 1267 pushes snow like a beast and that hydro on the 520 makes mowing a breeze. Thanks for the addition to the group.

8 pointsJust got my first trailer the other day. Got tired of loading RJs in the van and I no longer have a truck. On top of it all only the RJs would fit in it . Also wanted to use trailer to get mulch and that kind of stuff used around the property all the time so I built the box . Then I am looking at it and figure that when not in use its going to get full of dirt and get all wet and it's just a waste. So why not cover it and park a tractor in it? One less for the little woman to complain about I thought. So here it is . Problem though is that now she thinks I completely lost my mind. I tell her that is just not possible since it still works well but she just will not hear it. I am willing to bet however that Grand kids are going to enjoy the tractor rides even more now .

6 points5-17-1965 The FBI Laboratory weighs in on the “dirty” lyrics of “Louie Louie” Based on outcry from parents who bought into what may have started as an idle rumor, the FBI launched a formal investigation in 1964 into the supposedly pornographic lyrics of the song “Louie, Louie.” That investigation finally neared its conclusion on this day in 1965, when the FBI Laboratory declared the lyrics of “Louie Louie” to be officially unintelligible. No one will ever know who started the rumor that “Louie Louie” was dirty. As written by Richard Berry in 1955, the lyrics revolve around a sailor from the Caribbean lamenting to a bartender named Louie about missing his far-away love. As recorded in crummy conditions and in a single take by the Kingsmen in 1963, lyrics like “A fine little girl, she wait for me…” came out sounding like “A phlg mlmrl hlurl, duh vvvr me” Perhaps it was some clever middle-schooler who started the rumor by trying to convince a classmate that those lyrics contained some words that are as unprintable today as they were back in 1963. Whatever the case, the story spread like wildfire, until the United States Department of Justice began receiving letters like the one addressed to Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and dated January 30, 1964. “Who do you turn to when your teen age daughter buys and brings home pornographic or obscene materials being sold…in every City, Village and Record shop in this Nation?” that letter began, before going on to make the specific assertion that the lyrics of “Louie Louie” were “so filthy that I can-not enclose them in this letter.” Over the course of the next two years, the FBI gathered many versions of the putative lyrics to Louie Louie. They interviewed the man who wrote the song and officials of the record label that released the Kingsmen’s smash-hit single. They turned the record over to the audio experts in the FBI laboratory, who played and re-played “Louie Louie” at 78 rpm, 45 rpm, 33 1/3 rpm and even slower speeds in an effort to determine whether it was pornographic and, therefore, whether its sale was a violation of the federal Interstate Transportation of Obscene Material law. “Unintelligible at any speed” was the conclusion the FBI Laboratory relayed to the investigators in charge on this day in 1965, not quite exonerating “Louie Louie,” but also not damning the tune that would go on to become one of the most-covered songs in rock-and-roll history.

5 pointsMaybe the BEM (belt eating monster) wanted a change of menu and chewed up your brain. Now that I think about, the BEM may have taken a chunk out of mine. I've been scratching my head a lot lately. Oh well, playing Cowboys and Indians with the young'uns is more fun than chasing BEMs anyday.

5 pointsYup. Just hang some stuff off the sides like pots and pans so they bang and clang over bumps. Put a buckboard on the front and some reins and you'll be all set!

4 pointsHello Everyone, First off I would like to say this is a great forum, heaps of information, helpful people and respect for machinery! This is the story of my Horse, it was traded in at work on a new machine (not sure what the customer bought but in my opinion they got the raw end of the deal), I was immediately interested in it as I have seen a lot of lawn tractors but nothing like this before, it was in a sad and sorry state it did not run but the panels were all straight and was complete. I got it home and replaced the battery and checked over the engine, it cranked and started once primed, the sound of the Onan roaring to life is amazing. I have done some cleaning on it, polishing the hubcaps makes it stand out, they are not perfect but look good still! My intent is to give it a good clean, fix anything that is on the way out or missing. I am currently tossing up having to repaint some areas around the pump and bonnet, I know since it is after 1990 'Toro Red' is the preferred colour over Rust-Oleum Regal Red, what is everyones thoughts? And here is some pics! Love at first sight! After its clean (looking good) Getting down and dirty (Probably the heaviest engine i have had to move) Yummy, frequent cleaning would have prevented this (and a air blower would help) After its clean! Will keep you all posted!

3 pointsExcellent Aldon. Maybe between the two of us we can find the missing fender for Richie. We're almost down to under a month......I'm getting excited.

3 pointsFirst coat does go on hard and used more. 2nd coat a breeze. The kit did have a roller with two rough coat sponges and a throw away brush but make sure you pick up a couple of extra brushes. Two gallon kits for a 7x14 and had about 1/4 of leftover... nuff to do some other stuff. It would work good on shovel handles or tractor running boards.
-
3 pointsOk so here is how it came out...same as Tom"s It is very rough and non skid so if you want a smooth surface this is not for you. You could dump a quart of oil on the floor and not be slippery so handling a 1000 lb motorcycle in it should not be a problem. No big problems with applying it either. Just make sure you wear gloves this stuff does not come off your hands. The book says two coats one right after the other and while the first coat is still tacky but because of time I had to wait a few days. Two coats is a must tho. I was going to lap up the side to the top of the bottom trim but it did not like to stick to the smooth surface of the trim. In fact it does not adere well to anything smooth. I got a little on the tailgate aluminum frame and it peeled right off. The wood floor, which was a smooth sanded osb/particle board, it is not coming off. Now on to some e-track and a bike chock more on that later. Took the loading flap off to do it separate so as to get under the hinge sealed. ..just don't do it under a crabapple that decides to start droping flowers! Also get a mixer and stir well and often with the drill. The non skid, which I believe is just ground up used tire rubber, likes to sink to the bottom. Ya get down to the end of a can and it gets quite thick ...almost like black jack roof tar.

3 pointsThank you for all the likes everyone. I have a picture of it 8 years ago somewhere I'll find it somewhere on this phone lol

3 pointsI have a set I got several years ago. My brother and I were at a big antique/classic car swap meet in Kansas City. One vendor was a guy had nothing but wheel covers and hubcaps, thousands of them. My brother saw the WH caps first and showed it to me. We knew exactly what they were. They were in average condition. I asked the guy how much? He said $40 a piece and asked me what they fit. I said, I think they will fit a Wheel Horse tractor, I'll give you $40 for the set. He said, "deal." Polished 'em up and installed on my B-80.

3 pointsI do have one set of baby moons. I think newer than the FBI's 'er I mean Mr. Ness'. Can anyone date these nice WH baby moons?

3 pointsAwesome consensus gang. I was afraid (and admit , embarrassed and wrong) that only cause I've seen such awesome 'rebuilds' etc. here, that some may be..a little. .riled.. (I didn't say snobs).. And BTW, always red, yellow and green looks like a kids toy. (No offense, I know several folks here use several brands..it's all in fun) Awesome forum, although I admit I have a but load of work that hasn't gotten done since last Thursday (day I knew a horse was coming home) I'm spending waaaay too much time browsing this forum. Thanks again.

3 pointsI say go ahead a freak them out its your do with it as you want, just please no yellow and green

2 pointswe have a 195 and it is a great machine, Aldon is right the front bearings are hard to find, but not impossible, ours had 2 bad bearings, and Jimt1971 (my hubbie) found them on ebay after watching it for a few days. but I can say that the early JD wheels fit but you would need a spacer.

2 pointsWelcome to the Wheel Horse family! Two classics in one year, you're addicted. Don't worry though, most of us here have the same problem. We help each other through it. The important thing to know is, if you ever have a question or problem with your Wheel Horses, this is the place to come. These tractors are very resilient. The Red Square members will help you get every ounce of performance out of your herd for a long long time. And if you ever need to add to or thin the herd, we'll help with that too. We feed on pictures, so don't hesitate to capture your horses in action. Or, if you have a question/problem, a picture will be worth a thousand words. Welcome!

2 pointsI've had to take my HF gun apart several times over the years due to large pieces of media or waste from the parts I'm blasting plugging the gun. Check the nozzle and the air valve. Seems to me that I had to clean each of these at least once. Good luck.

2 pointsWell I finally ran out of time to make paint perfect. I only have a few days vacation left before life gets very hectic again. So there are a few runs in the paint but for my first actual build and since it will be put to work very soon, it's good enough for a garden tractor:-) As such things are moving at a quicker clip now.
-
2 pointsI keep coming up with this kind of stuff and I may just have to take up your suggestions.

2 pointsJim, you guys were spot on regarding simple safety devices i.e. brake locked, seat, and PTO disengaged... Sooo.... let me just say this about that Behoof = Newbie Thanks again all

2 pointsFantastic find! Are you going to use it for yard work or put it in the living room as a conversation piece?
-
2 pointsSince I am very familiar with band saws I took a long good look at it while running with blades engaged. Although belt always stays in the lower part of idler it is straight from there to other pulleys. Idler is not pulling it down from its natural location dictated by horizontal alignment of pulleys. Even if idler has tendency to pull it one way, it is being overridden by the pulleys since horizontally belt is absolutely straight.. I will however just for the sake of trying everything, remove idler and turn it upside down to see if condition stays the same or belt moves to upper part of idler. It is the way it must go on this deck set up. Lower pulley is the one aligned with spindle pulleys.

2 pointsI'm thinking it's a collection of years. The hood and steering wheel scream mid 70's, The motor and seat are earlier. Looking closely I think I see that the hood is raised in the front indicating it started out life as a 1974 C-160 with the Tecky and they put the Kohler on it. rj24, could that tag read 1-0385? Oops, wait.....the 1-0385 was an 8 speed. I'm back to a collection of years and owned by an elderly gentleman that needed a lower step in order to get on it.

2 pointsThe silver wheel paint by Dupicolor at Advance Auto matches pretty good when I painted my wheel weights and the IH red Majic brand paint from TSC is a pretty close match to TORO red (bottom of 48" deck and rebuilt 44" snow blower) and has held up pretty good for me but it can be kinda hard to use it's recoat "window" is a little frustrating and it takes a while longer to cure just my ,Jeff.
