9 pointsI've have posted a few topics already trying to get some help. And I got lots of help from many nice people. I just wanted to say hello to everyone and share a picture of my new lawn ranger. I just got done fixing a hand full of things and putting it back together here. I just got the steel pan seat for it. I need to mow with it for a few months. But after that I am going to be more of a hobby. And I kinda like the fenderless look so that is my plans for the future.

6 pointsWhile I was waiting on the paint on the mower deck to dry for my "mutt" 854, I thought I put the new battery in my 856. This is the tractor that started my love for the red tractors. I grew up on this one, and my dad passed it on to me when I got married almost 13 years ago. So new battery and clean the carb and she was ready to ride!
-
6 pointsFound this tractor 20 mins away for 60.00. Runs and drives. I bought it mostly for the front and rear wheels and the rear ag's are nice and soft with no dry rot. I think the hood is a cub cadet original hood. The deck is really nice too!

6 pointsOnly 8hrs of the O/T today... cuz we got nothin' here. Are calling for 15 degrees for an over night low tonight though.

6 pointsOur new cat likes the cold weather and trees. But he does have he's quite moments. He plays in the snow like a husky and eats earth worms out of the puddles. .

6 pointsThat's lazy AEZER and LUNA-tic....They are just visiting while Son Mike and family are on vacation in Cancun. Yeah, they are the best. Just like Grandkids...really love when they visit and good to know they eventually go home.

6 pointsDads wheel horse C-161 pulling green (wet) elm wood this is one of hundreds of loads of wood this tractor has pulled without any major problems and yet another example of what these tractors are capable of. (that's me driving). not saying a 500cc quad wouldn't pull it but I cant think of anything else for $375 that will do that.

5 pointshere's some of my ugly tractors that i've picked up over the years, the 416-8 is the one with the motor tin tore apart, actually got the motor to run on and pulled it off and put it on another tractor, but still have the tractor with an onan 18 on it. the 90 416-H ( 6" front tire tractor ) i bought several years ago pretty much as seen in the pictures. it was rode hard and put away wet, very wet. the running boards are bent down and the hood has a spot were it had a sharp metal ? corner dropped on it and punched through the hood. it was put out for sale with a 2 stage blower, snow plow, bagger and 37" deck and some other non- wheel horse items. the wiring was a mess and it didn't run. they thought it was the start relay but if i remember it was a safety switch. i call it old ugly. it runs real good and probably will pull the 16 hp off of it here before to much longer, not sure if or what motor i may put back on it. eric j

5 pointsWhatever you decide to do, order the parts first, then have the machine shop bore the cylinder to match the piston, and turn the crank to match the rod. That way if there is a problem with fitment, it's the shops fault and not yours.
-
5 pointsI've rebuilt 4 of the single cyl K's using the after market parts from ebay and found their descriptions were well described as to what they were for and simply followed them to order and all came out good. Their "kits" I found to be really nice --- and INEXPENSIVE!
-
5 pointswhen i rebuilt my dads 16hp kohler i went on ebay and looked at the aftermarket kits one of the sellers had thier phone number listed so i just called and ordered what i needed and paid over the phone and it worked out good.
-
5 pointsI'm kind of questioning the ownership of the 857?? I think you've done lost any control of that there said tractor??
-
5 pointsThis was my first 1057 that I had. This engine had so much grease and dirt on you could not see the jug or block on the stator side. There was no separation one mass of crap. I ran it till it would not run any more The piston was so loose in there it needed 0.030 over to true it up. Now that was some major over heating. But today it will be like new when I am finished with it. No rush.

5 points4-9-1959 First astronauts introduced On April 9, 1959, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) introduces America’s first astronauts to the press: Scott Carpenter, L. Gordon Cooper Jr., John H. Glenn Jr., Virgil “Gus” Grissom, Walter Schirra Jr., Alan Shepard Jr., and Donald Slayton. The seven men, all military test pilots, were carefully selected from a group of 32 candidates to take part in Project Mercury, America’s first manned space program. NASA planned to begin manned orbital flights in 1961. On October 4, 1957, the USSR scored the first victory of the “space race” when it successfully launched the world’s first artificial satellite, Sputnik, into Earth’s orbit. In response, the United States consolidated its various military and civilian space efforts into NASA, which dedicated itself to beating the Soviets to manned space flight. In January 1959, NASA began the astronaut selection procedure, screening the records of 508 military test pilots and choosing 110 candidates. This number was arbitrarily divided into three groups, and the first two groups reported to Washington. Because of the high rate of volunteering, the third group was eliminated. Of the 62 pilots who volunteered, six were found to have grown too tall since their last medical examination. An initial battery of written tests, interviews, and medical history reviews further reduced the number of candidates to 36. After learning of the extreme physical and mental tests planned for them, four of these men dropped out. The final 32 candidates traveled to the Lovelace Clinic in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where they underwent exhaustive medical and psychological examinations. The men proved so healthy, however, that only one candidate was eliminated. The remaining 31 candidates then traveled to the Wright Aeromedical Laboratory in Dayton, Ohio, where they underwent the most grueling part of the selection process. For six days and three nights, the men were subjected to various tortures that tested their tolerance of physical and psychological stress. Among other tests, the candidates were forced to spend an hour in a pressure chamber that simulated an altitude of 65,000 feet, and two hours in a chamber that was heated to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. At the end of one week, 18 candidates remained. From among these men, the selection committee was to choose six based on interviews, but seven candidates were so strong they ended up settling on that number. After they were announced, the “Mercury Seven” became overnight celebrities. The Mercury Project suffered some early setbacks, however, and on April 12, 1961, Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin orbited Earth in the world’s first manned space flight. Less than one month later, on May 5, astronaut Alan Shepard was successfully launched into space on a suborbital flight. On February 20, 1962, in a major step for the U.S. space program, John Glenn became the first American to orbit Earth. NASA continued to trail the Soviets in space achievements until the late 1960s, when NASA’s Apollo program put the first men on the moon and safely returned them to Earth. In 1998, 36 years after his first space flight, John Glenn traveled into space again. Glenn, then 77 years old, was part of the Space Shuttle Discovery crew, whose 9-day research mission launched on October 29, 1998. Among the crew’s investigations was a study of space flight and the aging process.

5 pointsHere is my b80 I picked up in January this year. I have been working on it as weather permits. Pulled the head and found a beautiful piston and valves. So clean I didn't have to clean them, and yes that says STD on top of piston and wall is greater .i changed oil, plug and points and it runs like a top.i got to change transmission oil which has water in it from a bad shifter boot .already replaced that.i think I'm going to leave it as is and not paint it.I also replaced drive belt and idler pully.

4 pointsThank you all from me to my WheelHorse family for your thoughts and prayers, my Dad was 82 and a veteran of the Korean war. He liked my Horse and wanted one, I found his on Craigslist a couple of years ago and got it for a very good price. The picture of his is last spring, I had just picked up the tiller and installed it, that is why it is so dirty, had just finished doing his garden, never dreamed it would be the last and only time that would ever happen. My sister is staying with my Mom and wants to keep Dads garden going, I will gladly be in there and till that garden again.

3 pointsWell, now that it is spring and although it seems to snow every other day, it does not accumulate much so.... Time to tear down snow blade and repair / rebuild / repaint / install new decals. Blade rotation handle has been built and painted already. Blade stabilizer has also been fabricated and painted where required. Blade partly disassembled and small parts bagged ready to be bead blasted and inspected. Pins are rusty and worn so I made up new stainless pins. Springs cleaned up and painted. Quadrant cleaned up but I found some broken welds. Welder in on Wednesday so will get fixed then. That's all for now. I will update as progress is made.

3 pointsSorry for your loss. Looks like your dad took good care of his machine. Mike......

3 pointsThanks! it is really always nice to have. It looks like i'm going to have to do some scanning for the forums library I can't wait to put that original seat on it and see what it looks like. Really love the arm rests!
-
3 pointsWell, I took a second trip today, the previous owner contacted me and said that he got a hold of the original owner and that he had a few more goodies. So I made the trip to get more of the original items of the tractor. I got the original seat with arm rests, which only has one blemish in the seat cushion part. Which one of the kittens also enjoyed I also got all the original manuals and brochure that the original owner had. The brochure even has a bunch of prices on it and what he paid for this one. Gladly, the id plate was taped to one of the manuals! I was upset when I saw that this was gone, and was so excited to see it when I got the items. I also got a new set of cutting blades for the deck for it. I'm happy, to say the least, to have so much history of a solid tractor.
