12 pointsI took the dozer blade off of the B-80 and did some maintenance to get ready for mowing. I move blades and mower decks around the basement with the two wheeler dolly all the time. I wanted to put this one out of my way in the shed, which is uphill. I strapped it on with a couple of bungies and towed it with the . I'm lazy I reckon or maybe just wanted another excuse to use the tractor for something! Had to go easy or it would scoot over into the rear tire. The ball hitch mount was a PO install on one of my other tractors. It's two pieces of angle iron bolted on.

8 points4-5-1792 Washington exercises first presidential veto George Washington exercises the first presidential veto of a Congressional bill on this day in 1792. The bill introduced a new plan for dividing seats in the House of Representatives that would have increased the amount of seats for northern states. After consulting with his politically divided and contentious cabinet, Washington, who came from the southern state of Virginia, ultimately decided that the plan was unconstitutional because, in providing for additional representatives for some states, it would have introduced a number of representatives higher than that proscribed by the Constitution. Though representatives could have attempted to overrule the veto with a two-thirds vote, Congress instead threw out the original bill and instituted a new one that apportioned representatives at “the ratio of one for every thirty-three thousand persons in the respective States.” Washington exercised his veto power only one other time during his two terms in office. In February 1797, the former commanding general of the Continental Army vetoed an act that would have reduced the number of cavalry units in the army.

7 pointsHi, New member here. Two years ago I moved out to a place with some land and needed a tractor for mowing. Before that all my mowing needs were taken care of by a push mower. I knew nothing about lawn/garden tractors but stumbled upon a Simplicity 7016 Soverign in good working order. It came with a plow, 42" mower, tiller and garden cart. Suits my needs nicely. I assume like most on this forum I love to tinker and have enjoyed doing minor fixes on the 7016. I recently bought a used 7012 just as insurance to keep the 7016 rolling if needed. It seems I have found a new hobby. I had no idea there were such enthusiastic fans of these fine old tractors as well as other brands like Bolens, Club Cadet and of course Wheelhorse. I'm really intrigued by the design of the Wheelhorse am looking for one to restore. In my researching I think I would like a 70's B-80 or B-100 or something similar. I like the idea of a manual transmission. I haven't been looking for too long but there doesn't seem to be much Wheelhorse here in the Northwest. I live in Oregon. Are there any members in Oregon? Have you seen many tractors for sale in Oregon? Thanks much and good to meet you all, Steve

7 pointsI bought this from a man in Indiana who said that his dad bought it new in 1964. There was no doubt in his mind that it was a wheel horse wagon but i cant seem to find any info or pictures of one like this. It is a four wheel wagon with sides that pull right off. It has the same wheels that are on the front of the wheel horse tractors and the original paint under the primer is red. I just want to make sure its a wheel horse before i put the sticker on it. Thanks!

7 pointsYou are living in one of the few areas where Wheel Horses are even harder to find than here in Florida. Wheel Horse didn't market them much west of the Mississippi. When Toro acquired them they had planned on doing so but it really didn't materialize. Check the member map and you'll find a few members but I don't know if they are active. There may be more that haven't put themselves on the map. Keep looking hard and you should find what you are looking for but it probably will take a while. The B series is a great choice but limit it to pre 78. That's when they made the B's a lawn tractor. You found the very best site in existence for all your Wheel Horse questions and a bunch of great folks.

6 pointsHave you ever picked up a rattle can and pushed the nozzle without checking to see it pointed at you face? Have you ever had to take your sister to the prom because your cousin was busy?

6 pointsYeas ago I pulled my hand truck out of the shed and found the back rounded part of the handle with a hole worn in it???? Turns out one of my sons and friends had taken it and tied it behind my mower (similar to your plow carrier) to give each other rides ...(and the handle wore through dragging on the dirt and pavement. Later I learned this had turned into who could stay on over the most bumps etc. Boys will be boys!

6 pointsSoak the pin with penetrating oil and get a roll pin punch the correct size. Put a piece of 2 X 4 wood under the lever to the floor so the lever is solid, now get a big hammer (pliers to hold the punch) and drive it out! Oh,

6 pointsto the You should go to the Manuals section , locate your tractor, and open the wiring diagram. There may be other safety switches that could be causing the problem including a bad ignition switch, a bad solenoid, bad fuse, or simply badly corroded wiring connections. Just replacing parts without locating the problem can be expensive , frustrating, and non-productive.

5 pointsWent to the parts store today to order a starter/generator belt for my 1277 this morning...got to talking to a guy who was there for the free coffee and town gossip (we live in a very small town) and he asked me if I wanted another Wheel Horse. I told him money was tight but if the price was right I might be interested. He told me if free was the right price to come and get it. Not sure what model it is or what kind of condition it is in...will find that out tomorrow when we go pick it up. Funny how these things multiply will be sure and post pics and more info once I get out there

5 pointsThat cause we rustle them all back over to this side Mike.... Welcome to Steve & hope you find that perfect tractor. Finding the right & perfect for yourself tractor can be like finding your better half so patience is indeed a virtue. You can try looking in places where there are more and members are close by. Use the member map. Shipping is always an option if it's in the budget and if there are members who are close I know first hand they would be willing to go out of their way help you in getting it. I highly doubt you would not find a member here that is not as honest as the day is long and always a straight shooter. If you do find it we do like our pictures here!

4 pointsYou can say this in the tune of Jeff Foxworthy if you'd like... If you till half of the garden and think it's normal to be taking a dirt bath from the rear pulley, you have your belt twisted underneath and might be a dummie. Feel free to add more, I guess I'm glad I decided to stop halfway through and change out the drive belt because it was slipping so much! It's much easier to move along and steer now too

4 pointsI have a piece of 2" X 1/4" flat stock welded to the top of my two wheel dolly which made it a trailer, works great.
-
4 pointsMost roll pins are spring steel and you will break the drill bit (don't ask how I know this).. KC's blocking and using a true roll pin punch to drive the pin right into the end grain of the 2x4, is a good idea

4 pointsI have no first hand experience with a rear cylinder valve seat failure. It is clear though these Onans were designed for use in an open environment in pumps and generators and even in the tractors with the rear output shafts. But when Wheel Horse engineers turned them 90 degrees to put the PTO shaft on the right side, the rear cylinder got enclosed by the hood, the hood stand, the muffler, and the belt guard. I also agree with others, If the cooling fins are kept clean, you should not have a problem with valve seat failures due to overheating. I suspect most of these failures are a result of small oil leaks from the oil filter and it's base plate that coat the cooling fins with oil and cause the grass clippings to adhere clogging the rear cooling fins. After using my 520 for mowing on a hot day , I decided to make it a winter tractor and put all that heat to good use I dedicated it to snow blowing duty only, so it will never overheat, but I can verify with the heat houser I have installed around the vented belt guard that collects only the rear cylinder heat, the temperature inside the cab increases 35F above the outside temperature in about 10 minutes of running time. If I were using my 520 for mowing, I would still vent the belt guard if only to reduce the amount of heat coming through the hood vents into the operators face.

4 pointsHey everyone, I"m back and have been strolling around here of late. Here's what' going on in my life. Tomorrow it will be four weeks back I had my stroke, I got home on Thursday a week later, I was in the hospital for 9 days. I got out that evening and I got to spend a couple days with the other half. She was put back in the hospital herself for COPD that Saturday afternoon which is horrible!!! Well it looks like Linda is not going to make it home as she has been moved to Hospice. Which to tell you the truth, It's just Not A good thing right now. So you can see life can be Good or it can just take the life right out of you!!! If your young enjoy your life. Live it to it's fullest!! If your older do the same but it might take a while to get there!!

3 pointsFor those members who are new to the site each year about this time I start a pre big show buy/trade/sell thread. This is used for members on the forum to post items they would like to buy, trade or sell prior to the big show. Typically they are bigger items that they would not bring unless pre sold. So .... I will start off. I have a set of rear 520 rims and tires for sale. Tires hold air but are not in great condition but usable. $100 for the rims and tires. I have a set of 12" dual wheel adapters that were used on my 522xi with dual 10.50 ags but will work on any 12" rims.- Sold to Fastpu88 . I have a 44" xi deck in good usable condition - 44" deck has been sold!. Has newer paint job. Looking for $200 for it. I have a new set of 10" ags for $75. I have a 953 plow blade bracket I would like $75 for. I have a new set of front tires for 3,4 and 500 series for $50. I have a 60" deck with new new spindles and bearings with 1 season of loving on them for $600. Suburban snow plow for $75. And lastly, an aftermarket wheelhorse super service sign for $50-SOLD TO SQUONK. 60" 520 deck is sold I am looking for some hauling help of a 60" xi deck from Mentone show or Micigan area (Jake will bring it there) to the big show. I have a 54" plow blade only that needs to be brought back. We are willing to kick in some cash for gas.- Deck has a ride so all set here.

3 pointsThanks for the replies! I haven't looked too long so maybe one will show up. The comments about scarcity west of the Mississippi appears to be true though. I'll keep searching CL and Ebay. I have found two Wheelhorse plows in CL close by. I'll give them a call. Maybe they have a tractor to sell! Thanks again guys! I can tell this is a great group. steve

3 pointsWell, I gassed her up, pulled her out, and started it up. Ran great. Now I've just got to find time to finish the rest of the tractor. She even charges with a new regulator now.

3 pointsThis is a subject that has been discussed before. If you are not convinced that ventilating the belt guard helps with the cooling of the rear cylinder it certainly helps with inspecting for blockage. The thought that the engineers designed it the way it came is not entirely accurate. These guys are not professional engineers who put their stamp on the drawings and thus are liable for the results. These engineers work for a large manufacturer and the bean counters usually have the final say so.That thought might explain the Eaton 700,one inch rear axles,4 pinion transaxles and 6" front rims on the 300 series. 2 pointsI drilled the hole out in my hitch large enough so a hitch ball would fit a few years ago so I could tow my wood splitter to my timber or wood pile. Then remove the ball and use the hitch for my dump cart, lawn roller and lawn sweeper.
-
2 pointsCorrect me if I am wrong but isn't the sensor for the overheat dash light monted on the front jug? My tractor do list has cutting the whole section out and spot welding some hardware cloth on. I agree with the keep it clean and you won't have a problem theory but hey it can't hurt. There are some guys who got fancy and had louvers stamped in...there are lots of pics in a thread I started about this when I got my 520...will go look for them. Speaking of engineering nice linkage on the foot control @Ed Kennell
-
2 pointsJust my but 18 years and 755 hrs later and 3 acres of mowing then sweeping I haven't vented my belt guard ...just remember to use compressed air to blow out grass clippings/chaffe/ dust/dirt ect out after EACH mowing session this not only helps keep the debris from piling up in there but helps cool the engine down after the work is done...again just my opinion from my experiences after 18 years ,Jeff.

2 pointsBMW, It looks like what you have is an 18 Automatic that has been modified or retro-fitted with an electric clutch. The switch on the lower dash plate is normally for the headlights/taillights. Not sure why there is a resister network of just over 2 Ohms that would require handling up to 60 watts of power. You may be able to temporarily disconnect the electric clutch circuit and test it with an Ohm meter for continuity. Worst case senario maybe you could source some good used parts needed to replace the existing clutch with a mechanical one. The belt for the mechanical clutch should be part # 103084 this powers the P.T.O. shaft. If I am not mistaken there should be two belts for mowing: one mower drive belt for power and the blades belt, under the cover.
