Started driving this when I was 5 years old, my older brother used it for plowing 3 acres and I'd mow lawn with it. Saved it from my dad scrapping it.When the motor started going bad my dad bought a B-145 electric, that we used for quite a few years before rear end went out. Getting close to finishing it, but flywheel was bent,

Hey everyone! Just had a few minutes tonight to check in on the square. Everything took a crazy turn back in November and I havent been on here for more than a few minutes since then. So lets rewind to November: I worked as an electrical engineer and sole employee of an LLC that worked on industrial electronics, the job was good and it was slow paced so I had lots of time to check in on things here. Well, with a combination of issues like poor management of a buyout and slow times for the customers my parent company couldn't afford to pay me so I got "restructured" out of a job. I wasnt surprised, as they made some decisions that I thought were bad ideas... and they were, but we parted on very good terms. That whole fiasco is a very long story by itself... By the grace of God, a company that I had been a customer of for 7+ years through various jobs had approached me with a job opening not but a few weeks before. I had declined because I had promised my then current employer that I would work there a minimum of three years (not binding in OH, but I am true to my word). I called them back on the Friday I was "restructured" and I had and interview the following Tuesday. Well I got that job and started at the end of December. It's a great job, faster paced, more challenging and more exciting. Now the downsides: its in a VERY small town 60 miles from my house. I am on the road for sometimes over 3 hours a day. I had to sell my beloved truck for something more economical and comfortable (and safe for inclement weather) for driving that distance. I really do like my 2016 Subaru Outback very much in its own right, but its no truck. (It does have a 2700lb tow rating though! Looking at trailers already) Sitting and waiting (ok not really, shes got 5000+ miles on her already) for a nice aluminum trailer so she can tow her first horse. So that job and the commute takes up much of the time outside of family time that I had for my projects and forums. I hope to get back on things as I settle down into the job, but I just wanted to let you guys know that I'm still alive and kicking and even slowly getting the garage cleaned up to get back to work on my 854 transmission and get the slight hydro leak in the 520H sorted out. I also plan on dropping a freshly rebuilt K341 into my 8 speed C-105. That should be my dead-reliable runner. So what did I miss? I mean I will try to browse through some of the 20,000+ posts that I have sitting unread, but I figure you guys can gimme the skinny.

I have had this Wheel Horse since I was 10 years old. Now I'm 31, and I've just bought a house so I want to get this thing going! It was painted 20 years ago and looked really good. It's never run very well and never cut grass very well. I was too young to understand how to really work on it back then, but I'm ready now. I got it running yesterday (with a pull rope) and it sounded pretty good. It does have electric start. I don't know how many HP the engine is. I would like to know what year it is and what model. I think it got painted over. I have found similar models, but not the same model. The serial number is A-72124. Thanks for your help!

I just was viewing a Kohler Engine Specs identification chart and if I remember correct, the "S" designation after the K181 means it has Electric start, Mark.

That's the inherent beauty here - nothing really changes. Same issues, just new people. You didn't miss a thing. Glad things are coming together for you. As a field applications engineer, I sometimes miss the 1000 -1500 miles a week travel - sometimes !!

Thanks for the ideas, I spend most days out of my summers over visiting him and he says that's why he wants to give it to me. I'd love to have it, he is a special person to me.

Pay him back with whatever he enjoys most. Could be as simple as a trip to DQ for a cone of ice cream or spending more time with you.

Today I went to town. I found a piece of galv. metal. Screwed it to a piece of wood for security and cut a hole with the drill press. All those years in construction weren't wasted. I cut the hole back far enough so I could bend the metal up in front to match the panel angel and get bi-directional support. A cut wheel and a burr made short work of my hole. I drills my holes in the bulkhead and installed an electricians best friend........ tech screws. A little lube to decrease the friction factor. Battery installed, a function check, engine starts, head light work. One last look before I close the hood. To me a good looking installation. Steering column is now solid as a rock. My cost: gas to drive to town, $.69 for galv. plate, one broken pilot drill bit $1.50. The tech screws were a donation from some previous employer. They were in my apron when I got laid off, honest.

I got in touch with Van. He's ok. But, has been pretty busy with school. He did tell me to let y'all know that he got a new Electra glide and that he would bring his laptop home this weekend and give everyone an update. Oliver2-44 hit the nail on the head. Y'all are awesome.

For a few years I've been on the hunt for a nice Snowco trailer. In CT they seem to be few and far between. I've looked at a handful all of which were more rotted than I wanted to get involved with. My patience and persistence finally paid off. I picked up this super solid model 954 yesterday. It's missing the original air dam but is otherwise complete. I was told that the rarest of the Snowcos were the Allis Chalmers version, which were yellow. Unfortunately, the ID tag on mine is missing, but based on the underneath it seems pretty clear that the original color was Allis yellow. Who else has a Snowco? Let's see some pics. Original brochure This was the only Craigslist pic and it was listed just as "Trailer". I immediately knew from the tongue that it was a Snowco. Pure luck.

Lost my Grandad over 25 years ago, still miss him. I have a couple of his things that I treasure and keep my memory of him always in my heart. My Dad is not doing well right now and I might be losing him soon, my brother and I will get everything of his, still will not make up for losing our Dad. If your Grandad wants you to have it, accept it, take very good care of it and cherish it for the rest of your life, who knows, you might pass it on to your grandchildren, sure hope so.

Thanks, I think I'll let him give it to me and I'll baby that tractor forever. I just feel funny taking it from him even though he only bought it for $100

If you have something covered with paint, take a rag with Acetone and rub gently. The paint will soften and come off with out hurting the sticker.
  18. 4 points
It's got a battery tray so I'll go with a 1964 - 654. Maybe you can remove some paint over the sticker on the belt guard.

Dick, Thanks for reaching out to me as I have also been a bit out of touch. I texted with Van a couple weeks ago, but that was it. I'll call him tomorrow and make sure everything is OK. If I don't hear from him in the next couple of days, I'll drive to his house and see if I can find him. He lives about 40 minutes from here. James

Some of my best memories of when I was little are of my grandfather and I riding his charger v8. He would let me drive and he sat in a wheel horse cart behind as went went to the little store just around the road from his house. That memory is what got me back into wheel horses. I still have his dump cart, but not the tractor - he sold it without letting any of us know until it was too late. Enjoy every minute with your grandfather, I'd give anything to have mine back calling me "Knot head." - miss you Poppy!

Me thinks your Grandfather would derive a large amount of joy and satisfaction watching his Grandson carry on the Wheel Horse tradition. Especially if you take care of it and show pride of ownership... You are one lucky Grandson...

Ok I'll quit pulling yer leg about the moose Red...... I was waiting for someone to chime in that there are no moose in Wisconsin but I'm laughing so hard I can't eat my lunch...Its an elk that is hanging off the bottom of the windchime on the porch. We do have elk here no fibbing and if it was real there might have been something other than a camera shooting out the window. Long winter here and the larder's getting empty!. Unreal the way that pic came out and it does look like it's crossing the driveway!

I have 26x12x12 on my loader. You have to shave the edge off the footrest, and lift the rear fender about 3/4". If you use wider rims and get the tire to sit flat, you may get by with out and mods. Here are a few pics. Tractor has improved stability and traction with the tires, but the gearing is a little off with the taller tires. If you are using your rig for jobs that require a lot of torque in the pushing or pulling department, I would re consider a smaller tire. These are tubeless on deep dish 520 rims. I want to swap my front tires for verdstein 18x8.5's, as I believe it would level the tractor, and be a great loader tire.

3-24-2007 Ferrari’s around-the-world relay stops in L.A. On this day in 2007, an around-the-world relay celebrating Italian sports car maker Ferrari’s 60th anniversary passes through Los Angeles, California. The relay began earlier that year, on January 28, in Abu Dhabi and continued on through 50 countries including Saudi Arabia, China, Japan, Australia, Mexico, America, Canada and Russia, before ending on June 23, 2007 at Ferrari headquarters in Maranello, Italy. Thousands of Ferrari owners and their cars participated at various points of the relay, serving as symbolic bearers of a relay baton featuring 60 badges representing key innovations in the luxury automaker’s history. The relay was officially kicked off in January 2007 by Piero Ferrari, an executive at the company founded by his father Enzo. The elder Ferrari was born in Modena, Italy, on February 18, 1898 (although his birth wasn’t registered until two days later due to bad weather). Starting in 1920, he began racing cars for Alfa Romeo and later became head of the company’s racing division. After leaving Alfa Romeo in 1939, Ferrari went on to found his own manufacturing firm; during its early years, which coincided with World War II, the company built machine tools, not race cars. In 1947, the first Ferrari sports car, the 125 S, which featured a 1.5 liter, V-12 engine and a prancing stallion logo, made its debut. In the decades that followed, Ferrari earned a reputation for producing powerful, pricey sports cars and high-performance racing vehicles.

Bob and tdf5g, Wheel horse wasn't the best at remembering anniversaries. Probably like many of us here. the GT-2500 was the first anniversary model and it was a 1981 model. Commemorating the 1956 incorporation of Wheel Horse as a "proper" company. Of course the Ponds began messing around in their garage selling their own tractor creations in 1946. I guess those first ten years were swept under the rug like a premarital pregnancy in less modern times... I've heard mixed stories on why the commemorative 420lse was offered in 1986. One story was it marked the 40th. Or was it the 30th? Another said it was the company president who ordered it as a special edition. I never remembered to ask when I talk to the guy who would know. The entire 1996 line were anniversary specials. They had the gold trim decals and offered the plastic wheel covers with the gold horse head. And they were back to using 1946 as the base year. Hence the golden trim. Toro has always been EXTREMELY supportive of the Wheel Horse show in PA. For many years they've been sending a company representative or two to the show. They've donated things for the raffle. I dont know know who or how it was pulled off, but the 2006 show was a doozy in that Cecil and Betty Pond were there along with some of their family. Toro - Ed C. specifically - arranged to donate a brand new 2006 tractor for that show in celebration. Probably a $4k+ donation from the company who many here chide for beating down our old horses. I doubt they really expected that donation to spur many sales; it was an appreciative gesture from the company. Anyway... Ed had the graphics department create special decals for that one very special tractor. It was donated and raffled that day. It was won by a local (to Gettysburg area) young man who showed/shows it there each year. Wild Bill was in full press mode promoting and talking up that show. Later, the marketing people must have thought the decals would be a nice addition to the final run of the 2007 model year, hence the tractors that started this thread. So -technically - the 60th anniversary tractors were 2007's, except for one. I seem to remember Bob whlpony knowing how many were built. Maybe he'll see this. Steve

Did you stick the broken piece of the fork back to take those first two shots? They look OK is those. I'll take a look at the gears I have to see if they are better. Ignore the PM asking for a shot of the 3523. I didn't realize at the time you posted this.
