12 pointsWith the forcast of a cold noreaster this weekend I had committed to getting my new to me 312a parts machine.I was told that this machine would not roll without power so it needed to be winched onto the trailer.Mount the winch on the 16' Hudson equipment trailer(I know over kill but its all I got) and head out into the Sunday morning drizzle.On and off rain until we get to the owners place.We are in luck no rain.Meet the owner and get the tractor to the ramps.Hook up the winch and go to look at a parts deck he wants to get rid of.Check the deck and decide it's mine and we carry it to the truck.While doing this my wife of 37+yrs had winched the tractor into postion and had it cross chained.There was nothing for me to do but snap on the binders,say goodbye and pull out of the drive. Promised her lunch so we went to are favorite chain and the whole time we came and went through the parking lot no rain.Get in the truck and on and off rain during 100 mile final drive.I did not get wet all day until I got home.She needed her truck first thing in the morning so I unhooked in the rain.All in all a good day. I will get some pictures posted as soon as it stops raining.JAinVA

8 pointsWell I got my beloved ford 120 sold and have been planning on using the money towards moving expenses (and maybe tinting the windows on my wheel horse hauler) but a really nice original 857 popped up for a decent price, it would look great next to my 856.. I want opinions on if I should buy it or not.. I would still have some dough left over so that's good. P.S I want it bad lol

8 pointsGot out my small collection of Wheel Horses and got them cleaned up a little but then got them dirty again playing in the dirt. I added some new ones to the collection and sold one. The first one is a C-120 Auto that I picked up yesterday with a snow plow. The second is my first wheel horse ever a C-120 8-speed that I have way to much money in, but is is very reliable now. Third is a Raider 12 that I bought this winter, it had a 12 hp Tecumseh that burned oil like crazy and I had a Kohler 18hp laying around so I put that thing in there, its got more power then you would ever need, but with the snowblower on there works real good and I just bought the 1 bottom plow for the rear. Finally an RJ-58 that I restored last summer and is now in the process of a engine rebuild.

8 pointsHere is the 702 I have been working on this winter. I plan on using it for pulling a single bottom plow hence the duals in one side. It was covered in black paint, I managed to salvage most of the original paint. The hood was missing so I put on this one I bought at a swap meet last spring. Couldn't bring myself to clean off the algae/moss growing on it so I coated over it with linseed oil. This is a patina you cannot recreate and I thought I'd share it and see what you guys think.

7 pointsA nice 857 pops up and you already have an 856? So you already know how nice the short frame, square hoods are...plus you have parts if something breaks while you look to replace. This is a no-brainer.

7 pointsWell it turned cold again but I was able to make some progress. The front rims will need some serious rework thanks to Mavis Monkeys but I got the rear wheel weights, rims and new Carlisles mounted to the chassis. Finally using those stainless lug nuts I bought seemingly months ago:-) Also do got the K341 spruced up. New carb, new starter new paint and some new hardware. Oh, and note the new to me old drive pulley I got from Oldredrider. Blasted and painted. The one that was on it originally had slight damage to the inside edge. At a standstill until we get some warmer weather....

6 pointsI see you have a hitch on the front of your horse...good thing i would need it. 4 wheel trailers are a PIA to back up a skill i have not mastered. Can't back up the hay wagon with the Case VAC so WH with front hitch to the rescue.

5 pointsI just got finished making up a crank rod to turn the snow thrower chute on my 520-HC with a Ber-Vac snow thrower. Here are some pics of how I did it. I am very pleased with the results. I used a 3/8 drive universal and a 3/8 drive extension. My neighbor welded the extension into a piece of 1/2 inch conduit and the universal into a piece of 3/4 inch conduit. Then he welded the original crank handle in the other end of the 1/2 inch conduit. The universal snaps into the extension giving me the flexible joint I need for the angle and also it's easy to remove when I remove the snow thrower with no tools. I can let the universal attached to the snow thrower. The 3/4 conduit has a 3/8 hole drilled in it for a bolt to fasten it to the chute gear on the snow thrower. The 1/2 inch conduit fits perfectly in the hole on the support bracket attached to the tractor. All I need to do now is make an attachment for the lift assist springs on the front quick hitch bracket.

5 pointsDennis I totally understand. I have been doing electrical work for 35 years and part of my job is quality control. I keep having to remind myself that we are to provide the owner what they are paying for nothing more but I do expect to see top quality installations. Aldon I'm with you on that. I think I have a good 5/10 though. 5 feet without glasses and 10 feet if you have good vision.

4 pointsI was 15 when I drove the old ford tractor, with 2 loaded four-wheel hay wagons to close to the conveyor for the hay-mow and almost trashed that. Hank, my cousin's husband, through me off the tractor and backed them both up at once. I can't even picture how he did that. I can back up one, but having two hooked up...I was impressed. I did not break the conveyor...would have played hell getting those bales in the barn with out it.

3 pointsI found this old trailer for 100.00 and it needed a couple of tires (40.00) and I had a wiring kit, lights, and tongue jack, so before I put the lights and jack on, I thought I would paint it. Its a tilt dump trailer with a 3500 lb axle

3 pointsThey used those motors on the Wheel Horse D180 and D200, Bolens Large frame HT18, HT20, and HT23, the Ford LGT195, the John Deere 400 and maybe others. The 18 hp Kohler K482 had a 3.251 bore and a 2.875 stroke. The 10 hp Kohler K241 had a 3.25 bore and a 2.88 stroke. The 20 hp Kohler K532 had a 3.375 bore and a 3.000 stroke. The12 hp Kohler K301 had a 3.38 bore and a 3.25 stroke. The 23 hp Kohler K582 had a 3.500 bore and a 3.000 stroke. The 14 hp Kohler k321 had a 3.50 bore and a 3.25 stroke. So many of the single cylinder engine pistons would work with proper machining.

3 pointsHow many remember these ? If you made too many attempts at backing a wagon, the axle nuts turned loose and the wheels fell off. I didn't have time to take pictures..I was in a panic to get the wheels back on before Pappy caught me.

3 pointsRemoved front wheels and pulled off tires. Got all old ugly blue paint off of the tires. Wheels are ready to go to work to be bead blasted and painted.

3 pointsAs a friend of mine always says there only original once. Nice looker the 657 I have is like that I use Marvel with a rag wipe it on let it sit for a day wipe it down the next done. Sure beats s/ blasting or sanding till you fingers fall off. enjoy.

3 pointsIt's a small dent I did not see. The light has to hit it just right to see it. It's 52 years old and going to be a worker. Like me it is going to have a few battle scars.lol The paint is for plastic. I hope it holds up till I find a better steering wheel.I've only seen one for sale and the plastic was melted on it as well. If you do I would use a small foam sponge to apply it. I used a foam brush and it came off the handle on the first tire. I used a 1/2 art brush to work it down in the treads. Make sure to wear some kind of vinyl or similar gloves.

3 pointsit's also got a nice seat on and wheel horse wheel weights, it the price was right i might be willing to drag it home and possibly take to shows just for a conversation piece and get some people on both sides of the isle stirred up. eric j

3 pointsi agree i don't like it there either, i actually go against the grain on here and like the column levers, but then again i've never used a foot control either. i defiantly like the lift lever up on the column. i also like the older C120 style long handle hydro motion control levers. i was up at the Fraley's auction in Muncey pa and there was 2 520 went under the hammer. 1 was 91 with gear reduction steering and a 60" deck, but with 2400 hrs showing on it and low oil on the dip stick and possible low compression. it had a dead battery so it couldn't be started. i valued it at best at $500.00 but figured it might go a little higher. it brought $ 1200.00 and the guy that bought said it was worth it for parts. i said to myself if you think so buddy but not in my book, although it did have what looked like a 420lse chrome wheel on the right side covered under silver paint, but it had rust on it. the second 520 was and 88 or 89 that started and ran with a newer 42" sd deck on it the hr meter was replaced with low hrs showing and the tractor was in better then average condition. it brought $ 1800.00, and it also had 4 good chrome hubcaps. both tractors brought more then i would have paid but both new owners were happy. sorry didn't think to get any pictures eric j

3 pointsCommon sense rules. Use the wire gauge to support the load's current draw, then you size the breaker / fuse to support the wire gauge.

3 pointsi learned to back up 4 wheeled wagons with a john deer 630 with a hand only clutch, and anybody that ever drove one of those old hand clutches they were a real bear, let a lone backing a 4 wheel wagon. but my wheel horse wagon is harder to back becuase you can't split the brakes and turn as sharp as a bigger farm tractor with a horse. i'll be watching this build also eric j

2 pointsWell as promised I am sending pictures of the 416-8 . Hopefully I don't mess up. I was going today to make a list etc but the weather is nasty (nothing falling yet ) and my naps kept getting in the way. One of these days I will learn to take better pictures. It is a model 31-16k804 serial number 28460. Have not checked serial number on engine. It is a Magnum 16.
