My neighbors even stop by to see if it is feeling "good" this winter...2 winters ago i blew a head gasket,,,im not sure who was hurting more....them or the 857.... well next weekend 857 #4 comes out of the shed and gets its snow blower........2 hours,,,,,,do the weights ever feel lighter.?????

8 pointsHave bunch extra parts , 59 trans , front wheels off my Kobuta BX2230 , 8" HF wheels , HF 79cc predator . Will have my son build new frame from scratch along with a new hood and fenders . Here's the catch , I want to build a Allis Chalmers WD replica but my model would be WH to pay homage to . It would low and mean . Was also thinking about painting frame , tool box , and motor black . Wheels and seat cream . Then I could change out the hood and fenders for Some RJ ones . I just want a cool custom that nobody else has , and if I paint it that way I could have both a and Allis . Would you let the orange one come to the big show . No horse parts would be injured in this process , (maybe a hood that's already full of holes , rivets , dents , and rust ) . Remember I'm going for a rat hot rod look exaggerating the hood lines . If I remove the gas tank ,change the air cleaner , and exhaust for go cart parts I can lower the hood . The RJ in the picture is my 59 and that one going back stock to match my 58 . So let's here your opinions on project RAT TRAC !

7 pointsHere is my Rat Rod, project Little Big Horse! It just got starting the build last month or 2 and I haven't had time to do much with it lately. I am shoe horning a big block 19.5 Hp 2 cylinder Briggs motor on a 1960 Suburban! I love the sound of these Briggs engines. I have to cut the frame in half and lower the engine down about 2 or 3 inches to make the hood fit in its original location or close to that. Also have to install a 90 degree gear box(right angle) to make the vertical shaft pulley convert back to the side of it for the rear drive pulley to match up. Then the steering has to be modified too! Wow, that is a lot of fabrication going on! I love the look of the front view, can look at that all day! I will probably have different tires on the front, but I had these new ones on the shelf so I just stuck them on for mock up.

7 pointsMy son and I took a little road trip this morning and picked up my very first wheel horse trailer it needs a repaint something bad but it still has the wheel horse stickers under the green paint

7 pointsI know this will not sit well with Wheel Horse purists, but here goes: My husband and I picked up our first Wheel Horse earlier this year; a beautiful 857 with a Robin Subaru engine, 48 inch deck, 6 speed hi-low and repainted. After driving it around, I was hooked; I became a Wheel Horse fan at that point. I half-jokingly told my husband that I wanted a pink tractor for my birthday and he began to search the ads. I expected that we would buy a tractor and it would never really get painted as we were mainly looking for a working tractor that would be put to use in my expanded garden plots next season. I picked out the pink paint, still only thinking that a couple of minor pieces would be pink and did not expect much else. To my surprise, I came home from work to see my borthday present nearly completed. I know it is not everyone's ideal Wheel Horse, but it is mine. I love Wheel Horses and I love pink, so this is the best of both that I could have ever dreamed of. Eventually, I would like to have a Wheel Horse for each series, but I'll take it one at a time. Attached are photos of my Raider 10 in progress.

6 pointsYep gotta love the 753's with duals, head lights and everything else you can throw on one! Here is my custom dually 753! Dual wheels, dual mufflers, dual hitches, HL5 head lights, 8 ball shifter, 1961 footrests, seat back rest, 60 lb front weight, factory mint seat cushion and I just added the one of a kind wind up key on the back this year! This is a high revving, romping machine!

5 pointsDoing some yard cleanup today & put my 310-8 loader tractor to use. My wife got the shot of me in the dog pen with the corny smile....notice the hat? I had a pretty decent load of lime stone rocks in the bucket & wanted to see how bad the steering would be....not bad. Once I upgrade the front tires & add the gear reduction steering I got from Kelly it should be really nice. I picked up the Kwik-Way at Steve Myers Service in OH, friend & member Nick857 let me know about it. The weight box came from another friend & member, Derek Workman. The 310-8 was one I gave my dad years ago to mow & plow snow with. He's not able to do the work anymore so I brought it home last summer. It's all dialed in now...well except the front tires & eventually the easy steer. Should be real handy with snow removal, mulch, river stone & whatever else needs done. Maybe build a set of forks for it next spring too?

5 pointsThat is a nickname I earned at a first aid class many years ago. I learned how to make the pulse in my wrist "disappear", so when we were checking pulses, I did just that, and the person checking my pulse said, "Oh my, he's dead!", and it stuck.

5 pointsseeing these 2 tractors looking so fresh and new, really makes me was to do that to my 854, and make it look like it just came from the factory. I've gone though it pretty thoroughly and it's running and shifting good. But it looks old and used, which it is I'm just at a quandary of what to do
-
5 pointsNothing wrong with a custom paint scheme (I think the only colors that bother us here would be green-n-yellow!). Looks great! Mike..........

4 pointsSunday morning December 13th 2015 Heavy rain and thunderstorms happening in central Iowa with flash flood watches and warnings being issued for some areas. Temperature 53 degrees at 8:50 am. Sipping coffee and contemplating looking on Craigs list for used boat, outboard motor and life jackets and maybe a 2 person paddle craft. May start building the ark tomorrow morning in the mud and drizzle and drape Christmas lights over the frame to disguise it from the neighbors. Started carving the NO CATS ALLOWED sign last night and will need to make a run to Walmart to buy large quantity of beer to assist me in the construction process....

4 pointsThe L107 my father bought in 1967 has always been my favorite horse. She has been in continual use since then. She is my chore tractor hauls stuff year round including coal in the winter (see avatar). Now I have a new reason to love her. Earlier this week I ruptured my right Achilles tendon so after some surgery next week I will be in a series of casts for 3 months. She is now how I get around outside the house, down to the mail box out to the shop etc. It is easy to swing a cast over a ranger to get on, not so easy on the bigger horses, and once you are on you do not need your right foot for anything.

3 pointsHello from strangely warm Wisconsin! As some of you already know, my husband and I have become Wheel Horse enthusiasts recently. I can't wait for some snow so I can try out my pink Raider 10 for plowing! I'm a gardener also, so if the winter refuses to come, I can always look forward to using my Raider 10 to plow the field. My next Wheel Horse will be a round hood. I will also ask my husband to help me pink that one as well as it will be my show horse. The Raider 10 in pink is awesome, but it will still be a work horse and will not always look so pretty. Ok, truthfully, I would love to have a horse from every series and would love to pink those as well, but I'm willing to take it one at a time. I have attached pictures of the two horses in our fleet (the first two of many, I hope). Thank you everyone for the many warm welcomes. I look forward to getting to know you and your horses!

3 pointsNot sure what the high was here today but now at 8:15pm its 60 degrees. It must have been in the low 70's here most all afternoon and mostly Sunny. I put a new battery and cables on the Ariens zero turn, pulled the sweeper around with a Wheel Horse, and sold and delivered a C125 (with 42" SD deck) to a good friend who has been bitten by the WH bug. The time went by much too fast.
-
3 pointsI love the fact that you have the loader on a 310-8. Its such a great horse sum would opt for a larger higher hp horse but its hard to beat a good running 310

3 pointsNeed to modify my sign though, my cat is curled up on my lap and I think she would prefer it to be a "No Dogs Allowed" Went out about 7:00 to put out the bird feeder (cat home entertainment center) and it was 55, by noon it was 71, clear skis and no rain in the forecast for the next three days. Got a couple of hours of seat time yesterday finishing up the leaf gathering around the barn and berry patch.
-
3 pointsThat is just stunning! Kind of like getting a new car---I would be terrified of putting the first scratch in it!

3 pointsI finally picked up a 2 stage blower after looking on craigslist for a while now. Its amazingly powerful, large and in good condition. I got it for $400, good deal right? After i put the beast on i parked it next to my 212-6 with the 36'' blower. The 44'' 2 stage is HUGE next to my 212. Now i just need some snow!
-
3 pointsIt belongs to you. Make it the way you like. And welcome to Red Square. Nice to have more ladies interested in the hobby.

3 pointsReady for the party and nowhere to go. Maybe i should consider putting in AC in the cabs and putting the decks on. I have got places in my yard that are still very green. I should not talk to loud here. End up causing a blizzard next week.

3 pointsI guess I will be the bad guy here I am loven this weather. The hole Eastern side of the country for the last 3 years has had enough snow. the West is in a drought so let them have it. Just my Gary B....
-
3 pointsPut that 212 on spring clean up duty. You will never use it again to move snow...

3 pointsFreakin awesome dude....!!! Much wider then the stance of the tractor .....chains & weighs are choice!!! Cab is in order..... You get a line on another one like that I'm all ears...excuse me whilst I go post in wanted....

3 pointsYep. I'd go with the dogs nose weather forecast over the meteorologists as more scientific every time. I hear a dogs sense of smell is so keen they can help find medical problems in humans. They are amazing creatures. You can't get a more true love than a dog has for its owner. No wonder dogs are mans best friends.

2 pointsHello everyone, This past year my wife and I jumped head first into the Wheel Horse pool, starting out with a 1967 857 which the previous owner rescued from a barn, repainted, installed a Robin Subaru 13.5 hp engine and 6 speed hi-lo Unidrive, and included a 48" belt driven side discharge deck, 36" gear driven deck, and a front mount snowblower. I added liquid filled lug tired all the way around, a box scraper, utility cart, and a used Brinly field plow. The little tractor worked out so well, we picked up a 1972 Raider 10 as well. The Kohler engine in that thing is quite the beast! We added liquid filled lugged tires, a new seat, and repainted it to suit my wifes's tastes. That means it's pink now. So, hello again to you all, and attached are a couple pictures. Thanks!

2 pointsFor anyone searching for the Oetiker style hose clamps : These are now available at the Home Depot . They're stainless steel & have true 360 degree sealing , Sizes 3/8 - 1"

2 pointsHey guys....all this talk about getting our tractors and snowchuckers ready for winter and no one has mentioned their generators. You don't want to discover that your alternative power source is "busted" when the lights go out and its "0" degrees outside. Ran mine about 2 months ago just to exercise it, and this morning the power went out so although I don't really need it I fired up the genny (starts instantly!) and have my house all powered up. Don't just fire up your generator, power up something to exercise the generator head....just because the motor runs doesn't mean the generator head is putting out. By the way....I'm making this post while on generator power !! Keeping your generator in top shape ensures you will be able to "cruise" Red Square while the rest of your neighborhood is in the dark ! Mike.........

2 pointsThe high here in mid GA was 75 and the wife and I had a 120 mile road trip filling Santa orders from the grandkids. I even managed a little shopping for grandpa at harbor freight.

2 pointsSubframe DONE. Welding DONE. Heres a shot of my last bead: The subframe fits great, I do need to order the big mamma-jamma u-bolts that will clamp the subframe to the rear axle. One thing that kinda bugs me is that I have to remove the red plastic bumper cover while having the loader mounted, otherwise the cross tube in the main boom will just graze it. In the Kwikway owner manual it says the bumper cover needs to be removed, I just figured it was so the front diagonal brace brackets had more clearance. Oh well. Not a deal breaker, it just looks better with the red cover on, I think. I suppose if I welded the subframe up with the uprights maybe an inch farther forward it would have cleared, but that would have monkeyed with the center of gravity and made the setup just slightly more tippy. Here are the photos that show the frame and bucket lined up/mounted.

2 pointspacrat...check out these pictures...these are the axles out of my 5025 uni-drive...10 5/8" long with 15 splines. I would think Mike would have these in his stock. The correct outer axle bearing for your 1" axles is WH 1528...crosses to Torrington or KOYO B-1616. The seal is TORO 100863...crosses to SKF 9815. If you look at Dave's picture...those are not the correct axles. The groove for the "C" clip is on the wrong end to the spline...should be about 1/4" from the end of the axle...and they are the wrong length. You do not need a new transmission...these parts are out there. Yes an 8 speed would bolt right on, although you may have a few issues to work out with the brake linkage. To clarify all this...your 312-8 came with both 1" and 1 1/8" axles. The TIPL shows both differentials reflecting this...Bob was seeing one part and lining up the other. Your transmission is 1" axles...that part # is 5961...the axles I have pictured are part # 3904...both are 10 5/8" long with 15 splines. Either one will work in your transmission...the difference is my #3904's use a 1/4" roll pin to hold on the axle gear. Your 5961 axles use a "C" clip to hold on the axle gear. That is why the different part number. The bearings and seal I listed above are correct for your 1" axle transmission. if you do not have this...here is the manual link for the 1987 312-8 with all the parts information. I'm going to edit my above statement...I was wrong about the #3904 and the #5961 axles being the same length. The #3904 is shorter by about 1". The #3904 is 10 5/8". The #5961 is either 11 1/2" or 11 5/8"

2 pointsHere is a thought that just occurred to me. We all know there is confusion about what viscosity oil to put in your WH transmission. They start out using 90 wt, then go to 40 wt...some go to 10W-30. I have always wondered why all this about different oils for the same horses. Maybe, the lighter viscosity oil is part of trying to relieve this pressure/suction issue with the shift rails. This is all tied together. Need to go back and see if there is a date they started changing the oil viscosity recommendations. Betting it is between 1963 and 1965. Bob, you are going to have to do the experiment, my shift rails have the flat. The only thing I could use is the post for the reverse idler, and I already know that has suction when trying to remove it and pressure when you try to put it back in. One other thing that screams oil pressure...after finishing building a trans and putting the left half back on...it will usually go all the way down until the last 1/4". You give it a minute and then start to tighten the bolts...the case closes the rest of the way.

2 pointsThe real reason is that the lights and snow effect take an inappropriate amount of CPU power from your computer and leaving it on all the time will eventually cause people to not be too happy. I am planning on leaving them up a few days prior to Christmas though, so fear not, everyone will get their fill and I'll be happy when they are gone
-
2 pointsBut it didn't and that is significant. Thermo-formed plastics (the wall war case) have a high degree of resistance to catching on fire and are can be made to self-extinquish.. I hear your concern, but look around the house at what stays plugged in and is manufactured in China - smart phones, computers, TV, stereo, refrigerator, alarm clock, clock on your stove, your wife's electric can opener. Statistically speaking (and looking at it thru the eyes of your insurance company) its a low risk. Your house is more likely to burn down from an electrician leaving a breaker or wall socket with an improperly tightened connection, an older Ford ignition switch in your car, sparks from your Lincoln welder or using a wood stove to heat your home - all those made in the USA. Anyhooo, the HF cheapo charger does have a protection circuit in the device which will trigger and turn the floater off if you attempt to abuse it. Trying to connect it to a severely undercharged battery or shorting the output leads of the floater together will shut down the current flow out of the floater. I cover that aspect of the electronics and show the circuit in action when I get my camera back into operation. As a public service and my nice guy good deed for the week, I will leave you with this video from a friend of mine that frequents another electronics forum. This is a true danger and pay close attention to the last few seconds of the video. Stay tuned
