9 pointsI'm a big follower here at Red Square not much for posting. Thought I'd share some pictures and story. The hate part started this summer with my 520. Running great one second, dead the next. Since following here the first thing I check was the 9 pin connector. One corner of the plastic connector was burnt a little. Change that ran for 10 minutes again. Double checked all wires everything was good. Back to the forum for more research. Great info on how to diagnose problem but it was like reading a foreign language to me. So ended up taking it to dealer for repair. Part behind flywheel bad and coil. Expensive part for that Onon. Labor was very reasonable. So back to loving the 520. Repair guy commented on Matts foot control and Scotts hitch saying those are stock and that there very cool. So about a month ago picked up my second tractor a 1257 with tiller. Loved this tractor as well until one first day of working it. Was in the middle of the back yard and it quite. Well a little tlc and it was back running. What can I expect from a tractor that old. It's running great now and looking forward to finishing my tilling in the

6 pointsPicked up this early 1955 RJ35, its missing a bunch of original parts but for the price it was a good deal IMO. Indicators of an early 55 RJ35: gas tank stand, no front axle stops, no support brace for the veri-dive arm and hood provision for the brass kill switch. The plan right now is to blow it apart and go through it. As the original hood is nice but not perfect... I have been toying with making another fiberglass RJ hood... As always the build will be on my Youtube Channel... https://www.youtube.com/user/VinsGN

6 pointsI just dodged that bullet yesterday. One of my nieces came for a couple of days with her 3 children. The 15 year old wanted to drive my raider but has never driven a clutch before. Guess what he did first thing. Yep, popped the clutch. I was ready for him. He dug a little dirt but no incidents. He still rode for about an hour. Glad to hear no serious injuries. Nice looking horse too.
-
6 points@Mike_Eddleman I have seen people relocate the tank to a fender and move the seat back. I too have a D-200 and have the same problem but don't want to whine as the wife will tell me to lose weight!

5 pointsSo my son and I got the new 702 running yesterday and took her out for a ride. She's got a late model 5HP and funky pulley sizing. Runs a bit faster than stock. 1st is like 2nd would normally be and 2nd like 3rd. 3rd kind of like an overdrive. My son took her out first, looking back probably not the best idea. He took her around the yard running her paces without much trouble. Came back around and said, "she runs a bit fast". I'm thinking cool, my turn. I hop on and take off in first at low throttle. Ok, good. Stop and shift into 2nd. Ride about 30 feet. ok enough of that. Stop and shift into third and take off about 1/4 throttle. She immediately rears up and takes off. Here I am riding a wheelie across the driveway holding on for dear life. I lean forward and hit the clutch and she calms down...lands on all four and I catch my breath. I can hear my son laughing over the sound of the engine. So now I'm off the paved driveway and in the grass. Still in third and 1/4 throttle, I slowly let out the clutch and damn if she don't do it again. This time, I can't save it. I pull myself forward by the steering wheel and try to hit the brake, but it's too late. As I pull myself forward, the steering wheel shaft pops out of the gear under the hood and the entire shaft and wheel slide up toward me. The tractor stands on end and I slide off the back on my ass. Luckily I was on the soft wet sod. The tractor is in front of me standing on end still running. Rear hitch stuck in the mud, tires spinning and digging holes in the yard. What I learned from this....Make sure steering shafts are correctly fixed on new buys before riding. Careful riding WH tractors with goofy pulley diameters. Never allow your teenage kid to take the first ride on a new old tractor. Wear a pillow strapped to your back next time. OH, and thank God for rear hitches or she would have been on top of me. I'm not sure if it's the pulley sizing or the rear duals, but this thing is just dangerous. Question for those of you with duals, do the duals make the tractor drive that much different? Even in first, if not careful, this thing is a wheel stander. I'm sure putting the heavy Kohler back on will help, but man!

4 pointsYou need to add weight up front if you want to keep the current pulley setup and still be able to use it. Mike........
-
4 pointsMe too! Wish I could have seen it instead of experiencing it. I'm done trying to ride this bronco! I think getting my Kohler on there and correcting the pulley sizes will help.
-
4 pointsIt`s not what your overlooking, it`s what your looking over. LOL I have the same problem. As others have said raising the seat helps too. At least with the long legs.

4 pointsHi gang I have 11 WH tractors and use 9 of them and two are in rebuild stage. Im not a collector to restore them to show Im a user. I once owned my own repair shop and out of all the machines I serviced over the 15 yrs in business Wheel Horse was my all time favorite. Now Im getting back into buying machines and Iv picked up a lot of Wheel Horse treasures. Mostly from the 70's and wont own any that say Toro on them. Im about to put on the snow blade on my C160 and the blower on the 416 and I should be ready for action but after the two winters we've had here in Mass I hope I dont even need to turn the key.
-
4 pointsI agree. Make some brackets to elevate the seat and move it rearward . I am built a little closer to the ground so just the belly is what I have to contend with.....
-
4 pointsI've got the same thing going on, and I do not have a "D". The only horse I have not modified (4 out of 5) yet...is the B-100. I'm like 6' 1" and about 2## something. I have found it is nice to go up a little as well as back. My wife has a Ford Focus, for me it is like climbing into a MGB.

4 pointsJust watched a show on Glen Campbell, who is one of my favorite artists, very sad and very moving. Alzheimer's is a very cruel disease. I'm thankful that I haven't had to witness it personally, its gotta be hard to have a loved one not know your name. Mike.........

4 pointsI think the 704/604 hoods are the same. did you get a hood with the tractor? I have a 604 hood if you need one. It's not the best but better than nothing. Here's what my 704 looks like:

4 pointsAn inexpensive multi-meter may will have difficulty giving a precise reading in the under 1 ohm range. The meter leads themselves can sometimes contribute a significant error into the final reading. To best read true stator winding DC resistance, first eliminate the effect of multi-meter lead resistance from the measurement. The resistance of the meter leads plus the connectors which plug into the meter jacks can add significant error into the measurement of the stator winding resistance. To view the meter lead contribution, first connect meter leads together, preferably using strong alligator clips instead of test probes. Allow the meter to settle to a final reading. Let's say you read 00.20 ohms. Note this reading for future use. Next, check the stator for gross electrical defects by measuring resistance from each stator lead to the metal stator core. This will check for defective windings in the stator which may in contact (shorted) to the stator core. Both stator wires should show infinite high resistance in this test. Finally, measure resistance between both stator wires - 00.69 ohms as seen below. Subtract the first reading noted from the multi meter leads shorted together (00.20) from the wire to wire ohms reading (00.69). The result is the best approximation of stator resistance you will be able to obtain with an inexpensive multi-meter.

3 pointsI have somewhat the same problem. With my workboots on I am 6' 2" and I have to have to deep padded Wheel Horse seat to be comfortable, or drill into the spring steel of the Wheel Horse "U" shaped seat mount and let the seat back as far as it will go. It takes several drill bits to do that. Look at my avatar pic to see how much room I had after setting back the high back TSC padded seat. I had to extend the forward controls on my Harley to be able to ride it comfortably for even a 1/2 day ride.

3 pointsPretty scary...wheelie bars and a helmet sound like a better option. You can bet that those duels aren't going to spin in the dirt, grass or driveway...just lift that front end off the ground. While adding more weight to the front may help, make sure the weight is secure, or you may be catching that while you are on your back. Other then all that...nice horse.

3 pointsThat is nice. It might be the light, but that seat is really cool how it has aged...looks like wood grain in the picture.

3 pointsMy wife worked for almost eight years in Chicago for the National Alzheimers Association. It is a cruel disease that is the 6th leading cause of death is the USA and cost the nation $226 Billion in 2015. Since then my wife she has worked for the Lupus Foundation of America, and is currently with the ALS Association (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease. That was our reason for moving to Maryland. I commend all caregivers, employees, and volunteers associated with all diseases and with non-profit organizations. There is never enough funding available contrary to what some critics say. On a personal note, my brother has been afflicted with Parkinson's disease since 2002. It pains me to see his deterioration every time I visit my family. For those looking for more information: http://www.alz.org/ http://www.alsa.org/ http://www.apdaparkinson.org/

3 pointsMy thoughts: I agree that we should merge most of the Euro sections with two exceptions. 1> I think a Euro Introduction section should be kept active and separate. 2> Add a Euro Classified section to the current classifieds. The rest should be merged...a question about a tractor is a question about a tractor no matter what country it comes from. Mike..........

2 pointsI know I'm a big o'l boy (6'-4" and 320lbs) But I stuck a car battery in the d180 and fired her up. Tested the PTO, the hydraulic and everything seams to working fine, So I climbed aboard. WELL the seat is in the full back position and it's all I could do to fit in. My belly hit the steering wheel. I have two other tractors that are not really as big as the wheel horse and have plenty of room. Just seams like a tractor that big would have more room. Am I overlooking something?

2 pointsBrrly1 thinks Iowa would rather play Michigan St. The way Ohio St. played today...................FINALLY, I tend to agree with him. Another great year for Ohio St. Jim. Congratulations. Michigan had a great season also...next year is going to be like WOW for the Big Ten. Iowa had the season most of us only dream about...congratulations to them. Wisconsin's going to be OK...coaching change hurt them. Northwestern had a great year...don't over look them next year either. Watch out for Nebraska next year...they are going to win some of those close games. Illinois is in trouble...they gave their interim coach (who had a fairly good season for what happened there) a 2 year contract today. What the heck can you do for recruiting with only 2 years to build. Not too much I think. Maryland beat Rutgers today...and that is all I have to say about that. Minnesota, Indiana, Penn St. Purdue...like Illinois...they are going to make some teams look good...but one of them is going to beat Michigan next year.

2 pointsJust wanted to do a little follow up. I completed the teardown and clean up and I put it back together. Believe it or not part of my biggest issue at the end was receiving wrong axle seals. I got a ball bearing in my SKF6105 seal and the seal that goes on the axle one of them was a 1/8 ID seal, but the other axle one was correct. One last question. Is the input pulley mounted the correct way or should it of been reversed? Everything is spinning in all gears and looks great. Now just have to mount it on the tractor. Hopefully today. Thank you everyone for all your help.

2 pointsI was scrolling through this thread enjoying the critters and never realized it was an older thread until I got to the picture of our Yorkie.....then I look at the dates. I'm glad it was brought up again. Here's a couple of our Granddaughters new baby she just got earlier this week. He's a Chihuahua and Mini beagle mix. The name she picked?..........Irish. Gotta love it. I wonder if Irish and Dukes Bo would get along?

2 pointsmore than likely the spindles were not made correctly from the factory it's not unreasonable for parts to go thru the manufacturing process that are slightly out of tolerance but are still usable you could have a entire run of parts like a right front spindle that were over bent a couple of degree's but instead of rejecting the parts wheel-horse decided they could use them Brian

2 points5/8" x 69" Make sure you get one designed to bend backwards over a flat idler pulley. There is no snowthrower belt chart but the tractor and mower deck charts have the belt dimenions in two different lists on the last pages of each chart. Have to use a snowthrower parts list to get the belt number. You should turn the side extensions over or trade sides. The front 2" lip should point forward. Garry

2 pointsMan seeing all of y'all with blades and snow blowers really makes me want one. Living in Georgia I really don't thing it's going to happen. I looked out the other day and we had a heavy frost and I thought about getting one of mine out and just running through it. My Horse wasn't running yet but I the B110 runs great
