1962 502 1955 RJ-35

I purchased this wheel horse a year or so ago from the original owner. It had been sitting for years with gas in the tank. Thanks to the wealth of information and input from users on the forum I was able to bring her back to life. It is really satisfying to hear it running strong after almost 50 years.

Hi, My mane is Mike and I'm from Georgia. Got my first wheelhorse today. I think it's a 1973 18hp automatic. I have a 1968 Simplicity 3012 and a Allis Chalmers B110 I ran across the wheelhorse and traded a gun for it. It came with the tiller, a box blade and a rear finish mower and a home made front blade. It's not running now but was running as little as a year ago. Some one has removed the coil and I'm sure it has a few bad electrical parts on it, I plan on a total rewire to start with. any and all advice is welcome

I have hunted the same deer near my home in southern York Co. for the past 3 years, including the first 5 weeks of this years 6 week long Pa archery season. I saw him 4 times last year and only 1 time this year. He has turned almost 100% nocturnal. So on Monday I gave up on him and I headed North to a friends camp near Austin ,Pa. We got to camp at noon and I was in my ladder stand by 2PM. About 4, an 8 pt came by at 35 yds, but it was a young deer and I let it pass. Tue It poured and I spent the day in my stand crouched under an umbrella cussing myself for passing on the 8 pt as the cold rain soaked my back. I did see a small 6pt at 2PM. but let him pass also. Wed. the rain stopped and I had good action watching 2 young bucks chase a doe for about 2 hours. Then at noon this buck emerged from the hemlocks and slowly made his way toward me. At 15 yds, he turned enough to present a good shot. When I released the 2 bladed expanding broadhead, he dropped in his tracks. He's not the trophy I hunted for 3 years....maybe next year.

Oops, thought it said fun " behind " the wood pile. Nice tractors anyway.

When I retired all I got was a cake, wish I had worked with Mike! Very nice.

Van, he does have the knack doesnt he. Cant wait to see the end result. Its gonna be sweet. Glenn Glenn, Hank is talking about attending next years Big Show. Maybe he will unveil his 854 there, and we can all ride it around and get it muddy down by the creek !

My first restoration, finished last fall. It's a 1976 C-120 and it's only job is plowing snow and looking good, of course.

Here's the first Wheel Horse I restored (finished earlier this year), a 1968 "500" Special.

I got the rear weight box from Uncle Bo last week for the 520 with two stage blower. I had to mount up a few brackets to tie it back to the tractor. I figured why not take a pic. About a month ago Ken B and I were at the local flea market and I picked up this really clean old Ariens blower. Runs mint. Last weekend at the flea I found a set of chains I put on today. So.... here is my crew. There is an outside chance I may mount a blade on something....

hello men, a long time friend where i work is retiring next year. we'll call him RH. RH has helped me with innumerable projects over 35 years. so i figured i would give him one of my horses to say thank you and help make his retirement a little easier. my plan was to set it up with a nice 42 inch SD deck i have. truth be told i bought this tractor from another member who did the paint and decals. he did a super nice job. the tractor has been in my long term storage for quite some time. this tractor has a mind of its own. it does not want to leave my herd so to speak. i replaced both axle seals. broke one hub because i got impatient and used my impact gun in conjunction with my hub puller. luckily my buddy mark welded it up good as new. 40 plus years of welding experience will do that. next i replaced the brake band seal and the input shaft seal. now the tranny does not leak. i added lug nuts instead of bolts and went with chrome lugnuts for some bling. i cleaned and repacked the front wheel bearings. put on some nice turfs on the front and some new carlisle ags on the back. added a way cool bud andrews exhaust stack. fabbed a brace for the black pipe used to route the exhaust. even scored some new rubber bumpers for the seat pan and hood from my dealer. fresh 30w rotella "T" oil. new fuel lines and an inline filter. plus the usual maintenance. had it running great. would like to correct the right front wheel misalignment problem. and now i think the fuel pump went south. tractor won't start and gas pours out of the fuel line after the pump until i shut off the petcock at the tank. diaphragm blown? hope you guys like the pics. mike in mass.

Has anyone had any experience with these mowers or remember using one? Is there any value or interest in these?

Got myself a RS birtday present...this 520H in northern IL today. The guy had it listed in for sale here so finally got the chance to go see him and make an offer. Over all its in real good shape. 670 hrs on the 220 Onan. Kinda dirty but looks like it will clean up nice. Came with a 48inch deck, blower, tiller, peco bagger vac with a 5 hp Briggs and a cute little generator which the PO never used. All I decent shape as well cept for the Briggs needs a new head gasket. Will get some more pics in the tomorrow in as it was dark out when I got home. I'll be pumping you guys for a lot of info on 520's in general and Onan's as this is my first. Anybody got any info on this little guy I'm all ears...the brackets are not home made and look like they go with it and attach to the front somehow. Didn't have time to dick with it yet. Thinking it might be handy out in the deer woods building stands.

I don't think we were encouraged to "like" photos for most votes to be guaranteed a calendar page. The initial post just mentioned to "post photos for consideration" apparently by an individual or multiple individuals who would be creating the calendar or calendars.

Managed to get the Kwik Way on tonight after work. I'll be taking it off again to make some repairs on the tractor yet. Mostly wanted to see it work. Problems I'm seeing.... (A) The loader runs very slow. (B) The pump drive belt is loose, I'll pick up a new one tomorrow & hoping that will cure the sluggish speed of the loader. (C) The roll pin in the PTO bail is broken again.....(I dislike roll pins), will have to see if I can find a suitable roll pin & repair it. (D) The 520H front tires are to squishy...thinking I will convert the front spindles to trailer hubs with stiffer trailer type tires & wheels. (E) This Kwik Way didn't come with a counterweight box...I will be using some heavy wheel weights, but still will need to fab up a counterweight. I would like to make a 2" receiver so I can use my electric Kolpin 3point hitch. Sorry about the dark pictures....if the suns up I'm paving.

my retirement was walking out the door one day, done. no One knew but me and the boss. I didnt want cake, soda, hand shakes, nothing. I still see the folks every once in a while. I am just not one for fanfare and trumpet blowing. I like slipping beneath the waves like a submarine. Silent. There and gone. Lol but now ,, knowing this ,, wonder if i would have got a wheel horse,,,,,,,nah,,,,,,,,maybe a box with my pencils n it. glenn

That will be an excellent set up for sure. That kohler will be nice and quiet at an idle for when you need to communicate with someone else during a project. My M20 is loud, which makes ear muffs a must. You will love the kwik way. If you find it does not lift as much as you would like, it is real easy to adjust the pressure on the spool. I did mine in 1/8 up turn increment, and it is just right now.

Using a plastic filler directly over old paint is never a good idea. Some fillers are part of a coating system that are applied over a compatible primer, others are intended to be applied directly to prepared metal surfaces. When the hood sits in the sun and heats up the adhesion between the old paint and the filler may fail. Be sure you are following the instructions for the product you are using. Also, you will want to remove all of the residual adhesive from the decals, 3M and others make some great products for this. We all want your project to be a real success.

I agree with Squonk on this one. I was going to go into a rave about the Pack but I can not find the words to describe that game Sunday. Whatever is wrong I am not sure they will get that degree of bad fixed this season. Maybe wrong about that but no team can play that bad after the way they started the season. Not even the Bears, and that sir's is a scary thought.

I'm 15 minutes one way from anywhere. Several things I can do in less time and be up and running again. Saving money is great but not the only reason to do something myself!

That really depends greatly on you. First, you must have bought a decent machine to start with? If you buy another, buy something that is in better shape even its more money, it will be cheaper in the long run. Second, get machines for different tasks, that will lessen the burden on any one machine. I suggest two winter machines and two summer machines, but at least one of each, that way you are not using one tractor year round and it will double the life of your tractors, four will quadruple the life of your tractors and may now be getting to the point where they will last as long as you. Lastly buy machines that are in a series or share a majority of parts with another or other machines. The C series are the best option with the 12 and 14 hp being most prevalent. The C160/161/165 is the most powerful but the 16hp engine is getting hard to find. I like the hydros and the parts are still available, so that would be my advice. I am really glad someone finally asked this question from the users standpoint and from a user that seems to be concerned both for the tractors and the user in a mature and adult way. Thanks
