i had my first plowing competition last sunday. ended up in last because i had to plow with the big boys anyway here's some pics of the day the first one of the day: my try on a opening furrow then i had a little hickup with the engine suddenly shutting down on me, wouldn't restart at first but after a couple minutes it started back up and ran strong the rest of the day don't have much to say about this one, just looked nice and here's me plowing

If I had pulled in to a competitions with every tractor being at least 4x bigger than mine I would have turned right around and left... So for sticking in there and doing what you set out to do!

Got my key ways cut new bearings, & bushings and wrapped the whole thing up at 18ft lbs.

Swapped mine here... the 3, 4, 5 series pans will fit perfectly in place of the plastic version you have now.

More good news. Hydraulic hose replacement cost is below what I had thought it would be. All (8) hoses that connect to the (4) hydraulic cylinders were cracked badly and crumbling. They weren't leaking but, considering the time and effort I'm putting into this project, they needed to be done. I went to Universal Hose and Fittings http://www.universalhoseandfittings.com/Custom_Hydraulic_Hose_Assemblies_built_to_order_s/1955.htm and requested a quote via e-mail and later on placed my order via phone because you couldn't select my option on their website store/checkout. All (8) hoses I needed are identical. 100R16 5,800 PSI 1/4" hose with a 1/4" NPT male fitting on one end and a male (3/8") -06 JIC on the other end. Each hose assembly is 16" from tip of fitting to tip of fitting. That order came to $7.73 per hose assembly and $16.98 shipping. $78.82 total. Not too bad. From talking to folks, it sounded like these would run like $20 each at a NAPA or Parker hose shop. The same hoses from www.discounthydraulichose.com would have been $149 shipped.

So here's my 502 and my RJ58. The 502 will be restored down the road. My RJ is next after the suburban. The RJ needs a lot of work but it's nothing I can't handle, and I have all the correct parts in boxes and on shelves for it, engine, steering wheel, seat Assy, etc.

WOW! That sure changes my opinion. Win out and Iowa is in. Who would have thought that they would jump that much with a one touchdown win over a mediocre team? Clemson and Alabama should win out, Ohio State has a couple of tough ones and Notre Dame has Stanford to get by. It's gonna be interesting and fun to see how things pan out.

Hey everybody. Just wanted to show what I have done the old 518 h. I took the existing hydraulic lines going to the original hydraulic lift valve og put in a second valve. Made quick couplings and added a hydraulic cylinder to the dump cart I made a few years back when I bought the tractor. And now I have hydraulic dump cart, which is a very nice tool with the tractor! Thanks for the responses. The seller is asking $300 but I think I can get it for less. He says it will fire on starting fluid so Im hoping it's just carb related. I also have a line on a kohler magnum 18 so I was thinking a re-power project may be in the near future for me. I caught the wheel horse bug pretty hard.

Hello everyone, First time wheel horse owner and thought I would introduce myself. Just bought a C105 with mower deck, wheel weights & chains, and snow blade attachment. A great do all tractor for my property. Runs like a top, but thought it would be a great fall/winter restoration project. I am so glad I found this forum. Here are a few things to consider. The 416 has a simpler and reliable engine and a blower. Blowers are more complicated and prone to wear on belts, idler pulleys, sprockets, chains, and bearings. If you know what you are doing, and you need these items it probably will run you $100-150 to put it back into shape. The deck on this machine has some corrosion issues which resulted in the hole that was repaired-not a great repair IMO. That tells me that the PO's may not be proactive on maintenance The 516 has the Onan engine which many like. However, many do not like it because of electrical issues (contact corrosion) and cost of parts. Also, if the PO did not maintain the tractor well, the rear cylinder is prone to valve seats coming loose. Make sure you do a compression check if you go this way. Although the 516 is a Hydro, it has the Eaton 700 which is not the desirable model. You want to look for one with an Eaton 1100 (all Eaton 1100 have the hydro lift) The 516 has a plow which is a really simple attachment and not much goes wrong with it unless you hit something really hard. Plows have their limitations especially if you have a lot of snow over a season. Eventually you run out of places to put it. Personally, I would look around some more. Last year I picked up a 1998 314-8 with under 400 hours and a 42 inch SD deck for $550. Through the course of the summer I bought cast iron weights for $50, a great condition single stage tall chute blower for $400 and chains (which I had to buy new for $60 plus shipping). I probably put in $200 in parts on the tractor and blower (belts, filters, misc parts). Add it up and my total investment was $1260. You do have to be patient though

Here is what I think......Iowa and actually Ohio St. also is not getting enough respect. ESPN and the SEC almost have to be in bed together. Even the Big 12 is getting little to no respect. Games are too close...give me a break. The Big Ten may well be the best conference Top to Bottom this year...even Purdue is going to bring their "A" game when they have a chance to give a team their 1st loss. Iowa is the best team in a weak division...Iowa may be the best team, but it is not a weak division. Illinois has a good chance to become bowl eligible, which would make 4 teams with 6 wins or better in each division. Nebraska has a shot also...they have Rutgers and Iowa...watch out Iowa...I think Nebraska is the most dangerous team in the country. Between east and west the score is east 7 wins against the west and the west has 6 wins against the east with 3 between conference games left. For some reason, the committee likes Stanford. Let's remember that Northwestern beat Stanford 16-6 early in the season, and Northwestern lost to Iowa. Oklahoma St and Baylor play each other yet. I think winner gets a spot. They were left out last year. Clemson beat Notre Dame...committees usually do not like the chance of a re-match. Clemson gets a spot if undefeated. If Clemson slips...ND if they beat Stanford. Ohio St. or Iowa if 13-0 I'm sorry Alabama and the SEC...1 or 2 loss teams should not be in the final 4 with maybe 6 undefeateds out there....this could cancel Notre Dame if the SEC gets a spot. Bottom line...a lot can happen yet...we could have no undefeated teams and 35 one loss teams out there...watch out then.

I'm going back to Chicago for the Holidays to visit family. One thing I won't be doing is visiting Willis (Sears) Tower's Skydeck.

Sorry to hear about your Peter Pan. I broke my right femur bone June 10 when my motorhome slipped off a jack. WooHoo that hurts. My wife broke hers June 21st, and just started back to work 6 hours a day, light duty, this week. She still has a ways to go to be completely healed. She broke one of the bumps at the end that form the knee completely off, and another break 3/4 of the way through the femur a few inches above the knee. How is your healing going? And also yours, @shallowwatersailor, are you back on your feet completely? Brian, thanks for asking. I'm glad to hear that you wife is back to work on light duty. I would say that I am 80-85% on the ankle but developed a blood clot from wearing the cast. I had warned the orthopedic surgeon that I had had a clot four years before so I suggested a "maintenance" dose of medication from him. He dis-regarded my comments. So now I am seeing a vascular doctor! Hopefully it should be healed in another three months. I can manage to walk my new dog (part of my self-prescribed therapy) , and I can now really predict the weather! I have yet to stain the floor of the trailer!!!

I posted this on your other topic, but for the sake of all future viewers, I will post it here too. ----- You will probably be fine, and I also understand that you are unlikely to change your mind (and that's OK! ), but I just have to put some physics in here for anyone looking at this thread in the future. If you stand on the hitch (lets assume the hitch is 6" long from the hitch pin to the hole, and extends 5" under the transmission, I dont know what the actual measurements are) you are putting a pressure of about 240lbs on the bottom of the transmission (not calculating forces on the pin, too much work, but expect it close). If you put 150lbs out free hanging 24" from that hitch pin you are exerting a pressure of 960lbs on the transmission bottom. Yours will not be quite that high since your 150lbs is distributed along the length of the 24", but it will be close. Its like using a giant breaker bar on a frozen bolt. Also keep in mind that trailers aren't valid comparisons as they have their own tires on the ground, so they are putting their tongue weight right at the hitch (the same as the first example I gave you of you standing on it) And that doesnt include the possibility of bouncing... you would be looking that thousands of lbs of force.

Just exercise caution, the collective experience of the members of this forum is vast. The cast iron is more likely to break once we hit freezing temps. I would hate to crack open the tranny in the middle of the winter in a storm (which is when it will happen according to Murphy and his law). You may not experience anything but the prolonged bending of the hitch. If something DOES happen, we wont say "I told you so" however, we WILL be looking for the carnage pics

True story...back when I was, oh, 12,13,or 14 I wwason a lake in Texas, had a guide that set us (my brother and I) up on some catfish. The one I brought in weighed 50lbs. It was literally bigger than I was. I thought I had caught the biggest fish ever!

...and the obverse of that story is... I have submitted mine, and it's not on the list.

Considering the straight forward basic construction of a Suburban frame and your desire for a one-of-a-kind I would suggest building your own frame with altered front axle and trans axle mounting points to get the stance and length you want. Another alteration that will help with the engine placement would be to mount the steering shaft nearly vertical using a Ross or other box and a drag link; side benefit is it will look Sooooooooooooooooooooo Kooooooooooooooooooooooooooool !

Late to the show here, but it's one of my favorite movies too. As far as one of the reasons a half moon was cut instead of a full length slot for a square key is, it is much cheaper in the production scheme of things just to make a plunge cut than a slot being milled all the way down. It may be only a matter of seconds. Time is money and when a few hundred are be cut it all adds up. After watching engineers and machinist and time management pencil pushers duke it out. The time cost analysis people always win out over engineers and machinist. Real looser is the customer. Not saying this is what happen here in this instance, I was not there. Just saying this is what might have happen.

Also on the 854, the hood was extended... so I think that bracket was welded on backwards from the way AMC's is... If noone else comes along I will see what mine looks like tonight. I dont have any idea of what condition its in other than its still holding the hood on...

I guess something must have worked, he left me positive feedback with no other contact! That COULD have gone badly (and I almost assumed it would!), but it is nice to know that there are still some normal people in the world that respond in kind to being genuine and cordial. Thanks guys for all the feedback. I have had yard trailers and a trailer with a leaf sucker(5hp motor and exhaust blower with frame) mounted to the trailer tongue. I have stood on the hitch with and without trailers and never had any issues with the hitch. I am 200+ lbs. I know I have had this type of load on the hitch before with no issues. Maybe I am just lucky but I nor my dad who's the owner of this gem thinks something bad will happen with this setup.

I'm new here but I do have a C160-8 with the wheel horse electric lift option. Works real well. Will lift the snowblower, mower deck, roto-tiller, or anything that I have attached to the sleeve hitch. I have the manual around somewhere. I can scan it and post if you'd like.
