Look forward to being a part of the red square site. Jesse I also have a 502 and RJ 58 , I'll get pictures up soon.

One of my horses at play "working the field". Used to tow around a specialized trailer used to harvest hops next to my house. Much more maneuverable than using pick up truck. Another pic of my 13-year old helping poor old dad with some seat time pulling traditional trailer filled with old hop vines.

checking out c/l Sat night and found an ad that was 10 hrs old for a C195 for a reasonable price so i called figuring it would have been sold, but i called and was surprised to find it was still available. made arrangements to go look at it and told the lady i would be there Sun. morning, afraid somebody might try and sneak in and steal it out from under me but it was still there Sunday so i bought it and brought it home with me, along with an almost nos set of 26x12x12 Goodyear turf tire and rims for a D series tractor. blew almost all my money , but i think it was worth it so what do you guys think of my new black hood. almost forgot it came with a 60" deck that needs a center spindle. there is a lot of play in the bearing. and no 3 point or any other goodies but it has the dual control valve for the 3 point, by the way if it did have a 3 point it wouldn't fit into my enclosed trailer for out of the weather storage. since i have decided to add this to my collection i have lo make some very tough decisions on which tractor or tractors must leave for new homes and hopefully greener pastures. just not enough room to keep them all unfortunately. eric j

I would think that if he came to pick it up, he looked over it and was happy with it when he took it, then its his deal. This situation is exactly why I stopped selling on eBay years ago. There are always situations where there might be an issue with something used. It isn't new, its used! I always try to look over and catch everything on a part, but if there is a problem you sometimes miss them. (not saying there was a problem with your engine, though). I think this is totally BS that a seller is held to ransom for something like this. It would be different if you had shipped it to him and he was seeing it for the first time, but this is not the case here..........

Well I used to own a real nice 522xi but that changed quickly. Last year I went through a miserable time with my folks parting ways. I told them that the tractors were off limits as I purchased all of them, but they stored most of them at their place. They agreed until mom said she needed a tractor and wanted my loved 522xi. Of course I reminded her that I wasn't part of the divorce which she then mentions I will trade you the zero turn (60 hours) for it. Since we bought their place, the zero turn made much more sense. Since that day I have missed that beast. In the meantime dad found a real nice 518xi for our herd that will be his work machine. He really likes it but misses the power steering. So thanks to Mike aka racinfool40 for the heads up, I now have another 522xi. Looks as though dad and I will swap, he will bring the 522 to his place and I will grab his 518. Not a real fan of the newer stuff but this will be my 6th xi and I couldn't be more happy. They are a great machine and a pleasure to work. This one will get cleaned up and some maintenance pulled. Should be another great addition!

I guess one is never enough. Very innocently I acquired a 69 charger v8 to get going for my son. Well its up and going now and the girls ask me where there's are. So now I have 3 wheel horses in two months. I picked up a running and driving rj58 and a 60 suburban with a plow. I thought the whole getting addicted thing was a joke and now I am searching high and low for all things wheel horse. Hopefully pics will post. Thanks to all that offered help with my boys tractor! Pick these both up from my local shop for $600 for the pair. Both do run but I have to tinker with them a bit.

I polished it,that's one reason I decided to remove the old seal you could she all the crud and uneven surface, what got me was right at the end of the splines before the shaft where the spacer rode it had boogered that up,thought I had it smooth but only took one little lip to catch it,won't happen again, got it filed smooth for the next, might have been o.k but not taking the chance after all this work R&R motor.thanks for the advice.

It seems to me that the dies used to stamp out these decks were probably the culprit. I have three 42" side discharge decks that all have had stress cracks around the spindle mounting area where there is an abrupt bend. Also, two have had stress cracks on the rear corners where the metal was stretched in the stamping process. I have had good results butt welding the cracks using the stitch welding method. For bolt hole stress cracks I have used 16 Gauge steel plates gap welded ( weld for 1/4', skip 1/2" weld 1/4" etc ), this distributes the stress to several points and reduces the likelihood of re-occurrence.

That's a piss pour design welding those brackets to the sheet metal deck. The old wheel Horse bolted design you could add reinforcing plates to the inside of the deck. I would clean up the old welds, straighten and weld as required. I would use a 3/16 flat bar to fit in that bracket and bent to fit the deck weld to the bracket. Then bolt through the deck to a wider plate inside. Can't see if that is possible from the picture with the baffle. Here is what I did to my deck. There is a angle bolted to the top with large plates inside at all the bolts.

Well, if the buyer came and retrieved it in person, then the onus is totally on them, even more so than if they bought it 'as is' off Ebay and had it shipped. To me, you have no obligation to repair anything.

Thanks for posting photos. Looks like a good time. I spent the last month and a half gasping for air. I have a heart issue that is not correctable, but it had gotten worse. Finally last week I was able to convince a cardio doc to do a new stress test and cath, and they found one of my bypass grafts was 80% blocked, so they put a stent in it. Hey, I can breathe now!! Far out. Missed this fun deal, the Ocala Pumpkin run, the Florida Flywheelers and who knows what else. Hope to build up enough strength to get back in action. Haven't seen the Beast in a couple months!!

Dennis grind those caterpillars off already its hurting my eyes . Once you do I would suggest "bumping" it in from the back side. What I mean is a series of really hot tack welds from the backside. This will give you great penetration but limited heat and warpage. You essentially hold in that one spot getting it real nice and hot to where youll see the penetration on the outside and bounce around from one crack to another, once your done it will actually look decent too like a roll of nickels similar to tig welding. Once youre all done from the bottom minimal grinding from the top and youll be all set leave the bottom side alone. If you really want to fix it up nicely you can use JB weld as bondo to fill and smooth any mis matched areas, put masking tape over the JB as it dries to prevent gravity from making it droop. This is a good method for welding sheet metal and the only way to repair holes if you have any, just hot enough to melt and add some filler but not hot enough to fall out the bottom. I also agree with Gary on his balancing method. I bought myself a 1/4" i.d. by 3/4" o.d. bearing off of amazon for 8 bucks. I put a 1/4-20 bolt through it with a nut to hold the bearing and then just stuck the exposed part of the bolt into a slightly smaller hole I drilled in the side of my work bench. It ends up working like a fancy expensive balancer for under 10 bucks. My decks run dramatically quieter since ive started doing this.

Actually working on an alternative now. Unfortunately probably gonna sell the RJ. I am not a collector so I think somebody else would appreciate it more than me. The suburban will be for my 12 year old and she fits it perfectly. I am working on a smaller wheel horse for my youngest girl. Thanks for the feedback.

Now just a minute...My lil' ole black hood C105 may be loud and smoke a bit, but she does just fine mowing and plowing...and annoying the neighbors in the process...

Considering the straight forward basic construction of a Suburban frame and your desire for a one-of-a-kind I would suggest building your own frame with altered front axle and trans axle mounting points to get the stance and length you want. Another alteration that will help with the engine placement would be to mount the steering shaft nearly vertical using a Ross or other box and a drag link; side benefit is it will look Sooooooooooooooooooooo Kooooooooooooooooooooooooooool !

That helmet is appropriate. The way the team is playing right now, it looks like all that is holding it together is Scotch tape! That post it note ball should have kleenex in it! Turkey day night against the Bores. Bart Starr is fighting tooth and nail after his stroke to be at that game to honor Bert Favor. If this team cannot get up for this game after what he has gone through, I will personally drive to Illinois, Pick up the Dino and it's off to Lambeau. I will deposit 10,000,000 fire ants in McCarthy's office. Steve will drive the get a way car. Maybe the Black Ford!

My 82 c105 deck has very similar cracks at the bolts / plates for the deck adjustment arm. Past owners welded plates to reinforce but the just transferred stress to the end of the plates for new cracks to form. Need to clean off the crap and see, but looks like larger plates... I think this is common on these decks from what I see on CL pictures...

I don't know what your fabrication skills are, but I would HIGHLY recommend custom fenders with running boards that bolt on in stock locations. It is VERY easy to slip a foot off the footrest and have it fall right in the path of the tires. Also weight down the front end of those tractors like crazy! My 854 is a front engine tractor but its still light enough to pick the front wheels up going up a hill or if the clutch is slipped off of. The small horses are cute, and seem good for kids because of the size but really arent all that safe. I picked up my 854 for my son to ride in the future (he's 2), but after working with it myself the future got pushed back pretty far! He will be riding the 520H long before the 854. Your kids are (probably) old enough to understand the safety of it as long as they can reach all the controls. I just like to be over careful rather than under prepared!

I am very nervous about those things. They are familiar with pulley dangers and the exhaust dangers. Never allowed on any of the tractors with shorts or flip flops. Number 1 rule is long pants and boots to ride. No exceptions. The exposed tires is my main concern at the moment and that is a deal breaker because I just can't let them ride.We have a few tractors now that they all run around on so they know the ins and outs pretty well when it comes to being safe. They learned on this old gravely 810
