Well some of you know I'm one of the first members on here and have been on here as a regular for years, but this year not so much, my youngest son Ryan, loves racing as do I, I have raced cars for 33 years, with that said I bought him a race car early this spring, he was only 14 years old so we started small. The car was a ready to run race car it had been raced for about 8 years, and showed it, but still a good starter car, we paid $900 for it, the class is called Poney stocks they are american made FWD 4 cyl. cars, Dodge Neons and Chevy Cavaliers rule the track, the track we race is 1/4 mile paved, the car we bought is a 90's Neon, with a 2.0 auto. the cars must remain stock to the eye no hot rod parts allowed, and DOT street tires they can run a safety wheel on the right front, lots of G force on that wheel in the turns, these cars get up to a average speed on the straight aways 75 mph all in first gear the little engines are twisting near 7000 RPM at the end of the long back stretch, tough little engines I will say, the car has a well built roll cage and other safety items like alum race seat, 5 point harness, and other small stuff. I did put a cheap flat black paint job on it, and a buddy did the vinyl decals for the sponsors and numbers. I didn't say that he never drove a car before the day we took him to test and tune weekend, and turned him loose, we told him to just drive slow around the track the first few laps, to get the feel for the car and the track, after a few hours here taking his turn on the track going a little faster each time, about 5 or so laps at a time he was doing pretty good, till he tried to go faster yet, the car got away from him in turn 4 which is a tight turn and he hit the wall hard, ripped the R. front suspension off the car,9He was fine shook up) so we got it home fixed it up and took him out the next day for more practice laps, well after 26 weeks of racing every fri. night, and half dozen sunday races, another crash in the wall, and a couple part failures, like a broken hub letting the front wheel try to come off, 2 broken axles and other little stuff, all of that we / I fixed at the track and got him back out racing for the night, He finished 2nd in points in his class on the fri night races and 2nd in points on the sun. races, sunday races he lost first place by 1 point, and also for the season received perfect attendance and Rookie of the year, oh ya did I say most of his fellow racers are in their late 20's to late 30's, he was one of the youngest on the track, pretty proud of him, we butted heads at times but I think we grew closer and both learned things all summer. So that is one reason I was not on here much, I'll make a post on the second reason in a few, here are a few pics of Ryan's car, oh and wwee are already starting a brand new car for him for next year.

While growing up in the '50s, one of the TV shows I would enjoy was "Sgt. Preston of the Yukon, and his mighty dog, King." I developed a real liking of the Northern Breeds. And after my good buddy, Oke', crossed the Rainbow Bridge three months ago, I wanted to pay tribute to him by adopting and saving another stray that was at kill shelter. (This was actually taken on one of our walks! Little did I realize...) Yesterday I adopted Juno from the Chesapeake Area Alaskan Malamute Protection (CHAAMP) organization. Juno was rescued from a kill shelter in Northern Virginia by CHAAMP. She is seven years old, and has been on sensory overload since coming home to her new surroundings. She stands about two inches shorter than Oke' and is about twenty pounds lighter. She still eats as much as he did though! This morning we saw the neighborhood domesticated deer with her two fawns. Juno will need to learn to not bother them. Today we will shop for a new leash and harness for my new pal. Something "Pink." for my sweetie. Let's go home! Ready to leave CHAAMP. Look how nice I can sit! Mrs. Sailor and Juno bonding. Wanna play?

I found my third wheelhorse on craigslist a few weeks ago. This one is a c-161 manual trans with a custom built trailer (previous owner was an aircraft mechanic) and built a really nice trailer with an aluminum bottom. The tractor has been repainted by the previous owner and stored inside a shed for many years. I just wish these were not so expensive in Texas.

Well I was not on here much this year because of two things my son starting his racing career, and me building myself a new race car, you can read about Ryans part in the other what I did all summer post, this will be a very small look and my car build I did this spring. Well I've been racing cars since I was 16 and I just turned 49 so easy to say a Long time, but this was hands down the best car I ever built, LOTS of hours went in to this, I did every thing but the machine work on the engine and building the trans, I touched every bolt on this car removed and most of them replaced, Ryan helped on this build also, he welded the new floors in, and lots of other stuff. I started with a rusty 1974 Chevelle I replaced the floors, the roof, and reshaped the wheel openings along with many patch panels for rust, I welded the cage in after making it fit this car I bought it in pieces like a jig saw puzzle but was for a different body (yes cage is WH red), I added lots of bars also for safety as I race figure 8's, every seem in the body was welded for strength, I have near 50lbs of welding wire in putting this car together, and untold hours welding, hours up on hours of figuring out how I wanted stuff, trying to think 10 steps ahead, while doing the body I was also building the new engine. I sent the engine block out for machine work but I hand assembled it, with ARP studs, alum race heads 13 to 1 high dome pistons a very lumpy camshaft, MSD ing. and lots more, no dyno time but estimated at around 500 HP and drinks 110 octane fuel with ease, @ $7 a gal. and takes 6 gall. most nights not cheap, but OOOOHHHH so fun to drive. I put all new brakes and suspension in it along with a disk brake rearend from a 90's cop car, with aftermarket axles a posi with 3.73 gears, huge sway bars upgraded everything, I cut no corners I built the best I could afford. Trans was built by a local shop to my specs, it's a TH 350 after assembling the car and welding all the body panels on, again every seem welded fully, every light hole, door handle hole ect... was welded shut, I took it to work and painted it, the cage was done at home just the black done at work, a buddy cut the vinyl for it, it turned out pretty good all in all, some things I would do different on the next one, but it runs strong and has held up well this season, with very few new car bugs to work out, this was a very brief look at the build I skipped LOTS of details I just hit and missed the big stuff. I was defending Champion in my class from last year, but in building this car I missed a key night in the points race and finished second for the season, but took home a few thropeys and the crowed loved the new car, I have been for years a fan favorite because I drive hard and pull no punches, the figure 8's can be very dangerous and very exhilarating at the same time. Any questions on the car just ask.

Hi. I'm new on this site , but already love the place. A couple of weeks ago I saw a for sale post in the classified section. I was going to work out of state for a few days , but the older gentleman selling it was nice enough to wait for me. I got the tractor, wheel weights, chains, snow plow and 37 inch deck with it. So far I only spent couple of hours wiping everything down and riding around the yard with it , but I like it. tracror is 1988 with 1100 hours. There is rust on a drive belt cover and wheels , and I'm not sure how to tackle that.

I had to find my front yard before the trick or treaters would be swallowed up in it. First pick taken a week ago is just part of the mature Oaks and Hickory we have in the neighborhood. The development is older and was called "Haven Pines". Should have been "Acorn Way", "Deciduous Acres", or "Squirrel Haven". The hardwoods outnumber the pine trees 4 to 1. Biggest mast crop of nuts I have ever seen in my neck of the woods. Like walking on marbles everywhere! I loaded the trailer up 6 times before I could mow the grass and grind the remaining leafs. The loader would get the leafs if you put the bucket on float and hit the pile fast. I quit using it after three of the 10 or so piles in the front yard. It was easier just to pick them up with the rake by hand except for how my back felt this morning! Of course the Mets blowing another game last night didn't help either!

Yupper dupper, some tense moments here as I'm sure there was in Niles. I gotta give Temple credit. It wasn't a fluke that they could have won. They are a well disciplined, well coached and fast team. They may not have the individual talent that the 'bigger' teams have but they more than make up for it in determination. The Gophers? Well, in reality they didn't stand a chance on that last play. Harbaugh simply told the defense that Duke would be the defensive coordinator for a week if they let them score.

There are pros and cons to both approaches. Go with what you like unless you are seeking to make it "look" original. Regarding color schemes - To paraphrase JRR Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings - "All that is red (gold) does not glitter..." In other words - Worker horses are gold no matter what they look like... Just saying... Are we allowed to use the word "Farmall" on this forum?
  14. 5 points
Any color you want. it's your tractor. If I had the talent. I'd go red/silver like the Farmalls have.

Oke' was "My Good Buddy." So - is Juno my: "Sweetie", "BFF", " My Gal Pal", or in the Van Morrison song: "My Brown-Eyed Girl"? Seriously, she must have been traumatized by a man along the way. She has fully warmed up to Mrs. Sailor, but is still slightly guarded with me. Juno has presented herself this afternoon for me to pet her flank. She is also in the office with me laying contented as I write. Oh - if they could talk and tell their story!

Much as I enjoy seeing Wheel Horse tractors in the mirror, this is what greeted my view yesterday after I adopted her on the ride home. More information in "non-tractor related discussion."

A fellow called me earlier this week and asked if I'd be interested in a cab. I asked for what model and what kind of shape it was in. He said it was on a 520 [79943] and in great shape. Just dirty from storage since 1997. No mice damage or holes. He had it on one week and didnt like it. I asked how much and the price shocked me. Me and the Wifey left early this morning and picked it up. 4 hour round trip. Now to find time to get it on. Down to 2 men at work from 5. We are swamped.

Found a nice loader project on eBay and wound up high bidder, somehow, last week. It was a bit of a drive for me, but even with gas and tolls (12 hours round trip!!!) I'm into this for under $400. This particular kwikway loader originally came from an early 80's FF series Sears garden tractor. That was the big Sears tractor that went up against the Deere 420. The kwikways were all built the same, they just took a machine specific subframe. This one had the loader, the valve and the rams, no subframe or pump. Diagonal braces came with it and the valve and the hydraulic rams are all in good shape for their age. Thanks to doc724 and some others, I've got all the dimensions I need to build a subframe. A friend of mine is going to take my CAD drawing to a laser cutter vendor to cut out all the subframe components out of 1/4" plate. I'll weld up the front diagonal mounts, the pump bracket and the mid mount frame. Made some cardstock mock ups of the front mounts, and fine tuned them to fit . I've also picked up a control valve service manual and an oring kit to refurb the valve. The valve is all torn down now and all parts are in good shape. As soon as fall leaf cleanup is done, I'll be able to get some front mount patterns and measurements for the pump carrier and then I should be set to get an order in to the laser cutter. This will be a fun project. Hopefully it will be ready for mulch spreading duty come spring.

hi men, going thru a wh tractor for a friend. i noticed that the drawbar pin had no snap rings or e-clips holding it in. UH-OH! boy was that pin stuck. penetrating oil and my oxy-acetylene torch would not help free it. in desperation i cut it as close as possible to the unidrive tranny case. using a thin cutoff wheel on an angle grinder i sanded it flush with the case. then i used my ball joint C-press kit with a 5/8 bolt that i cut the head off. it managed to push it out. what a relief! good tools are priceless. i mention this in hopes it helps one of you unstick one of those buggers. used lots of anti-sieze on the new one going back in. best regards to all mike in mass.

Juno is Skye's new name. Mrs. Sailor named her. Mrs. Sailor enjoyed not having fur around the house as Mals actually have two coats of fur. But gave in with me crying and laying on the floor while kicking and pounding my fists. "Happy wife - Some-what happy life."

Many will disagree but either one will work. I have an L-107 purchased my my father in 1967. She is still in use and I use her year round (see avatar). 48 years running and no tranny issues. She has run 40wt oil the entire time. Changed about every 10 years Shifts nicely in the cold.......

If i did not call the guy on CL to buy this within the hour, i woulda missed this! This guy needs an oil change, carb cleaning and thats about it! Next year I'm putting the 60'' deck on this guy! But these 520's sure go fast when below $1000 on craigslist!

I like the lights as well. I did something similar with my C-160. The lights I got came from Wally World and are a bit smaller. I put a plate in place of the original lens and mounted the halogen lights through the plate. To finish it off, Terry made me a decal for the front so it looks very close to original just much more functional. Just be careful running the lights long with the engine idling, the lights pull about 10 amps and the alternator doesn't charge that much at slow speeds. Its fine for awhile if your battery is good, just something to think about.

Its strictly a mower....any serious work and it'll bust. I would get it to be as nice as possible...then mothball it till spring, then sell it when mowers are sought after. Mike........

Sounds like he did very well in his 1st year as a "Race Car Driver"! Keep it up and we will see him on Sundays in NASCAR! Be save! One note....My wife had a NEON and I was afraid to drive it more than 65 MPH!!

Shouldn't be a problem and it will probably work better than a 2 stage. Small sticks and stuff shouldn't be an issue either but rocks and stones certainly could be. I remember a thread a while back where a guy wanted to use his to dig a trench in soft sandy soil but don't remember if he did it or the outcome.

Good for you John! Beautiful Dogs. I have a cousin in Va. and He always adopts Goldens to save them from kill shelters when it is time for another one. Wish more people woud do that. It would maybe slow down the Puppy mills. Good Luck with your new friend!!!

I did that too! Was testing the snowblower and ran it through the leaves ... blew them just like snow. Then I went to the big pile of leaves beside the garden ... blew that huge pile into the garden where I wanted them. All that was left in that spot was green grass.

That is a funny story Jim. Thanks for sharing. My son (not being Italian) married into an Italian family. I can honestly tell you that that story is not that far fetched. The first time I met my daughter-in-laws parents, (and the rest of the family, it's never just mother and father), her mother had been cooking, cleaning and baking all day. After a bountiful spread of things I have never eaten before, and some that I never want to eat again, she asked if I wanted coffee. I said sure and she handed me a tiny little cup of espresso. I asked for some cream. Silence fell upon the room. You could hear a pin drop. Things have gotten better in the 17 years since. After dinner now I just ask for a beer.
