I'm just curious about doing a Caption This thread on a regular basis. The idea is simple. I post a pic and you members post captions to it. Keeping it family friendly is of utmost importance to me so as not to offend anyone. The first one got a nice response so I though it might be a fun addition to the site. Not sure as to how often it would be posted yet, and ideas for picture subjects are welcome via pm or in this thread. Karl is ok with it but I'm also waiting to get more input from the rest of the Admin/Mod team. Give us your thoughts here if you would. Thanks, JimD

This is almost all done ,I've got 1 rim to paint gas filter to change and it will almost be done . well it's never done completely right guys. But I might have a gold mine the guy at my local scrap yard is going to call me if he gets any wheel horse's in. and he will save them for me to buy at scrap price, Never know what will come in. I got 5 gals of rv antifreeze in both rear tires with new tubes front and rear need front weight somehow. I got my new decals from terry today and they look great. 10 mins had them on very easy to apply ,thanks terry

When you enter something in the Search box a new box appears to the left of it with "All Content plus a down arrow" Click on that down arrow and a drop down menu appears. If you are looking for a manual click on Files. Then the search will be done in the Files only. When the results come up there is another drop down menu at the top of the first result on the right named "Sort by". Click on that and select "Relevancy" Entering a model number in the search box for a tractor won't always bring up the results you want. In that case enter the model year and model name i.e. 1990 312-8 and sort by Relevancy. The Yahoo Manuals Groups are still there spread over about 30 Groups but are totally useless. I can't even figure out what files are there or where they are and I put them there. So far they haven't figured out their changes were not needed or wanted and will leave them to take up bandwidth for ever. The old Yahoo Databases were the slickest thing since sliced bread and any member could use them. Some have 10,000 entries and the searched results would come in a second. In all their wisdom they decided a database should have a maximum of 1000 entries. Now I can't even use them and Yahoo considers it progress. Garry

I totally disagree with Lynn. I can find things now...where I could not before...and the search function is so much better. All he really has to do is ask for a manual and Garry will put in the link. Doesn't get any easier then that. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/

Picked up a pair of mounted used Ag tires at an auction yesterday. They are Carlisle Super lugs 23 10.50x12 mounted on 8.5" rims. Put them on my 310-8 (she is my pulling tractor...that is trailers and other stuff not competition). She had Deestone Super extra grip 23 10.50x12 on WH 7.5" rims. Look at the difference. Wish I knew where the 8.5" rims came from as the backset is perfect for WHs... By the way Bob Maynards Studs and lug nut set made swap a breeze

Yeah Jim, I could have rode my bike to the auction and hung it on the "bike rack" for the ride home. Also could have helped PennDOT out by scraping off several road killed groundhogs.

The glass windshield does stiffen the front of the cab a bit. Instead of 35 mph, you can drive up to 36 mph. Seriously I noticed a difference in stiffness when I went to the glass windshield, but not that I would drive any faster as well. Two cabs for winter duty. Nice! About 2 miles @‌35 MPH Mac. With only 2 miles to rustle it home I might have put some seat time on it and rode it
  10. 3 points
What I would like to know is, how did you get that thing home on a open trailer with a soft cab on it? I would have thought the wind would have beat that cab to bits. Unless it was a short distance at relativley low speed. Congrats on a very nice find.

Well I managed to make the frame fit, got it blasted except for the outside ends. Frame plate was cracked I got time tonight to weld it up then add a reinforcing plate to the inside. NO I am not a professional welder, maybe just good enough to be dangerous. Primed frame and painted transmission mating plate.

This is not a very nice tractor, but it belonged to my late father for the last 25 years, so it's going to get a new lease on life, and a modification or two I figure he would approve of... My dad's neighbor bought it new (in 1984) but it is an 80, my dad bought it from him in 1990. When he passed and my mom (85) took up mowing she hated the 8 speed so I bought her a new hydrostatic craftsman and ran off with this. It was rusty, and covered by brushed on flat black paint. It ran great, but the rubber in the shaker mounts was gone. The tranny had started popping out of high range and one axle/hub key way was destroyed and he had drilled through both and inserted a 1/4 bolt. Here is the only picture of it while it was still mostly together. The pad eye on the mule drive was welded on so he could drag it out of the woods when the keyway spun. And I apologize for the mess that is my garage.

Where I am at now.... Transmission came apart, the hi/low fork was fine. actually except for needing an axle replaced it all looked ok after a good cleaning. I replaced the axle needle bearings and replaced seals and axle. The oil was mostly rusty muddy water. upgraded to a NOS set of hubs with 2 set screws. Re-powering with an M-18, I couldn't find anything local so I did this the hard way. I started with a good running verticle engine, a horizontal block and crank, and came up with this ever escalating pile of money pit... All because I wanted to run a bigger deck, so of coarse I had to go with a non horse motor and add the expense of an electric PTO well that went side ways, (picture) not sure how to correct that... LOL Today brown Santa showed up with a set of wheel blanks from Miller, just burned these together. 10-1/2" of wide goodness to go with these...

I'm "hoping" that's just a catch phrase to get it to sell. Because parting it out would be Tupid! If he's gonna part it out, Id be interested in the frame, hood, transmission, wheels n tires, engine, etc ...LOL

I was outside giving this some thought today...and in this point I agree with cowboy...when you do a search anymore (even in manuals) it searches the whole site and gives you 14 pages where, say like, 414-8 was mentioned. Garry if what you are saying will narrow the search parameters to the "Manuals Section" only...that is a plus and maybe can take care of Cowboy's frustration. Lynn, we went through a change of not only site but software. We are not Forumer anymore, and we lost some data in the shuffle. About the time you are talking about...Karl saved this site from loosing all of it's threads and bought a new place for us to be. Sure we have had some changes, and some for the better. If you look around on the site, you will see what I am talking about. Gwest is the Manuals Moderator and he is also from the Yahoo groups...it is all here and the Yahoo Groups are not the same as you remember either. Lynn, you can do what you want, but if you give this a chance (and I do not think you did) I think you will find this the same friendly place it always was...and if you are looking for something...we will find it for you. I do not take kindly to anybody talking bad about this site, and not giving it a chance to prove itself. I do not think you gave it a chance. You want a manuals site..that is nothing but???? Here it is. You get what you pay for. http://www.mywheelhorse.com/modules.php?name=Docs&do=show_doc&id=1

I'm an old retired guy. long hair, white beard, look kind of like a garden nomb......All I would need are the pointy shoes and pointy hat....... .That would be to easy and predictable.....I could dress up as a hippy...... Still have all the cloths from the '60s and a real nice mid 60s Gibson accoustic guitar. Nah, wife would just get mad at me when all the old hippy women were throwing themselves at me....(cough) I thought about a horse named Rusty costume, carrying around a huge empty can of beefaroni, like the Seinfeld episode, and a can of fart spray concealed in the other hand....... Probably offend some people. (You can't even say hi to some people these days without offending them... ) That settles it. The beefaroni eating farting horse it shall be!!! Might as well take advantage of the last part of the full moon and p*ss off as many people as I can....... Woops............ Forgot to ask what you guys are gonna do...... Yet another senior moment........

And you wonder why you don't get many visitors? He prolly blasts out the real ones that you can smell from a block north...that will keep the little ones away... I am going to put a brown trash bag over my head with corn nuts taped to it, broom handlle walking stick with a roll of toilet paper attached...guess what I am??

The idea here is to keep it out of the Just for Fun forum so it gets more exposure. The types of picture I'll post should make it easy yo keep it family friendly.

This was sad to watch. I watched it live while I was in Buffalo.... Was hard to not cry for the guy. You could feel that he wanted to still coach, but whatever health condition he has, is draining him of his focus on the team. You could sense the love he has for the kids and the team. It was humbling to watch. Several time throughout the broadcast he had to stop because of his emotions. It makes one realize that we are all the same, we put our pants on the same, one leg at a time. We all stand up the same way, we all eat the same way, we all have the same body functions that need to be dealt with daily. Sometimes we imagine these guys and gals are superhuman, but they are not, they are just like you and I. I get the privilege to stand beside some of the most prominent government officials. Some of the top sports players. Some of the most influential speakers of our time. ALL of them have stories that let me know they are just like me. The only difference is they were in the right place at the right time that helped them with their career. That and a passion to never quit. RMC

This really sounds like you have just had a Dr. Phil moment...using the site as a sounding board. Needless to say, some pictures are in order.. I really like your idea. For me, this is my favorite Holiday and my favorite time of year. My wife decorates the inside and outside of the house to the hilt. Unfortunately, we do not get a lot of Trick-or-Treaters. I have been know to sit out on the porch, like a stuffed scare crow, and come alive when the little tikes approach. Usually, I am a big softy and hand out a good handful of the good candies...and I mean the good candies. HAPPY HALLOWEEN.

Here are a few more pics. I checked it out a little closer. Don't know how I missed the meter with 601 hours. No sign of the deck ever being on the tractor. The mule drive, lift bar and belt still in a sealed bag. Doesn't appear the PTO ever saw a belt and the plow was only used on pavement... no stone scratches. Weight bracket, but no weights. Good wheel weights and rubber chains. Pretty clean ...no grass under the hood. Wait a minute......That looks like my trailer. Now what do I do with this CLASSIC GEM ???

One of my favorite members here on Red Square (Shorts) made a front hitch for my B-100. It works fantastic. Now I can use the back hitch to pull the boat out and the front hitch to push the boat in. Shorts does not want to get into making these, but maybe Scott's buddy in Michigan (who made my back hitch) may want to make these if there is interest. Just wanted to share this with you guys. Thank you Paul.

From my notes 7877 = CR 7475 Federal Mogul 480821 = CR 7474 Original seal 9008000-7501 = CR 7443 CR is Chicago Rawhide and now SKF. Someone used the Federal Mogul seal above The original number was posted by someone from the original in the pump. CR numbers are close to the seal shaft size but slight differences generate another part number. Shaft size is .750" Garry

One of the sprockets is mounted on a slotted hole. that is how you adjust tension. I run 1/2" deflection on mine. If it were me I would remove the chain and check all the sprocket bearings aw well as the auger and cross shaft bearings. Buy a new # 40 chain at TSC or the like. They are cheap. I got a "like new" tall shoot blower a couple of years ago. The chain was sloppy. I took it off and ended up having to replace both idler sprockets and 1 cross shaft bearing.

I have seen people mount a lot of different stuff on their tractor, car and truck hoods here in central and south central Iowa, Deer antlers and steer horns and chrome bull dogs most often Some put their J C Whitney mail order catalog fake plastic chrome air horns on their roof...... They don't stop and think they have pretty much destroyed the resale value, and body and paint work is quite expensive these days.......Hope the decals do the trick......

I collect single cylinder hydros from 1970-1979, from my signature you can see I usually have two of each type and brand, that is to set one up as a lawn tractor version and the other as a AG tractor version, The lawn tractor GTs get new turf tires or crossovers, but the true AG tractors get a lift with 10" front tires to compensate with a taller rear tire I use. Not every tire I buy is meant to be as tall as it is, but when you use a narrower rim the tire gets taller and rounder on top, which works well in dirt, mud, and winter conditions as well. I'll post some pictures

Well, Fireman and Slammer, you guys are correct, some of the parts have been repainted. The red overspray on the console guage area is actually a reflection from the sun shining thru the red canvas. Hey Jay, not sure what you want to know about the rear bracket. It holds the suitcase weights, a shovel, and the SMV sign. It also acts as a bumper so I don't damage the WH when I back into Mrs. Ks BMW. Spinjim and Jimt I'm not quite ready to put a price on it yet, but I think the rain did help "dampen" the bidding. Stay tuned in and thanks for the interest. I won't bring it to Wisconsin for you Jim, but if I still have it, you could pick it up at the Big Show next spring.

If you plan to use larger diameter rear wheels and tires you may want to consider using the GT-14 trans axle. With the C120 gearing and large tires it would go a bit faster than you want (unless that is your objective) and will probably be a bit under-powered. The final drive on the GT-14 compensates for the larger tires.

Hi all, finally got together an update, i'd actually filmed this 2 times before but be the time i'd got round to getting it off my phone it was outdated and no point putting it up! haha anyway, here is an update: i've decided to redo the bracing that i had made as it was only 20 x 10mm steel, this would have done the job but it might have looked a bit weedy, so I brought some steel that is only 80x10mm! that should look a bit more heavy duty! i didn't foresee that it would need to over lap the bolts holding on the 90 degree box, this would have been fine but the bolt holes were actually slots so i have had so spend a while drilling the holes and filing between them, a job that i had thought i'd left behind with the 90 bracket, oh well. so that's all ready to be welded (for the second time!) I have set my self a target of getting the transaxle braced and tested before the week is out, maybe even a driving test, i probably won't get the hitch lift done or the weight bracket but you never know... callum

Now i like it, is that a honda gx engine? i am so tempted for my ranger project because i think they are really nice engines. but how did you make the fuel tank work with the shape of the tractor because there is just a hole at the back of the bonnet. if i am right that is quite a small gx engine but with the rangers you can fit a larger gx engine and one from a go kart that has been tuned if you want james

I won't compare the WHCC and RedSquare, and I support both. I don't know who made the comments to Vin, but comments like that are usually based out of fear, but fear of what I don't know. RedSquare fully supports the efforts of the WHCC and the annual show. Our members are Wheel Horse enthusiasts FIRST, with RedSquare acting as a medium to share and exchange information. We advertise, support, and encourage attendance at the collectors club show, and I have to believe that through these efforts, attendance at the event has increased NOT decreased. The posting of pictures (enabled for guests to see as well) and open discussion of the events, who is there, the fun being had etc reaches thousands of people around the world, not just RedSquare members. The purpose of this post was to show support for the Wheel Horse Collectors Club and the show that they provide, not to divide the Wheel Horse community. There are people out there, Wheel Horse collectors, who are upset that the hobby has grown as it has, and for them RedSquare is not the place. My question to the people making the comments is simple.... What are you doing to promote the hobby? The WHCC website is an informational site and not intended to be a forum (or at least as far as I am aware). I have no knowledge of the inner workings of the club, except to say they put on a great show which I hope every RedSquare member attends while wearing their RedSquare hat! Oh... fyi, the WHCC does not have an on-line membership application, there is a link to a form which you need to print out and supply your name, address, phone number and of course a check for $10. I encourage everyone to support the club!
