8 pointsFor me the forum is kind of like having a bunch of buddies hanging out in the shop discussing a range of topics and helping each other with advice, sharing knowledge and occasionally giving a little good hatred jab. Some topics we just listen and learn, others we can contribute on. Lots of great folks here who have helped me and may not even know it.

7 pointsLike Yogi B. says " Cash is as good as money". I never leave a paper trail. My biggest fear now is, when I pass on, She will sell all my toys for what I told her I paid for them.
-
6 pointsStopped in the leaves while I was out cruisin' this morning, and snapped a couple pics...hope you like.
-
6 pointsIts fun being here JP. The fun and fellowship along with the wealth of Wheel Horse and Kohler, Tecky, and Onan knowledge is what keeps me here. God Bless America and all of us at Red Square

5 pointsBreaking my ankle in June has meant everything was put on hold. I hadn't tried to run any tractors until today. The two diesels were on battery tenders so thankfully weren't a problem getting started. The other tractors have literally been where they were in June since then. Plus the workbench-cleaning fairy never got the message so that will need to be cared for as well. But I was finally able to try an attachment option that I had been considering over seven months ago. I had been emailing Greg at Heavy Hitch about adapting his Hitch'N Can to a sleeve hitch. He does sell an adapter to mate a 2" receiver to a sleeve hitch. I wanted something specifically for a sleeve hitch so that it wouldn't be so far out from the fulcrum of the hitch. The first one was too short and only raised the can about 3". The revised version arrived after I had my accident so wasn't able to try it until today. It works perfectly! I had it painted Kubota Orange so that I could see it in the dark. It also is long enough that I can have the cab on and still not touch it in the raised position. The ironic thing about this is I was going to use it for yard waste as I have a wheeled yard waste can. Save a step and just put it in the can they pickup from. The county changed the size restriction (the existing can is too big) so I would need to get another can. Greg was sceptical about a market for this so if you contact him for one, do me a favor and mention my name. It should work on a regular clevis hitch as well.

4 pointsHere is what has worked for me over the course of being married for 22 yrs. I don't take from house money to pay for any of my toys or support my hobbies.. I think the only reason is because I hate asking permission and I really don't feel like trying to explain my reasons. My slush money comes from side jobs that I do or tractors, boats and or outboards that I restore. My wife could care a less what I have and she NEVER asks where did I get the money to buy something..One day this past summer my wife gets home from work and she sees I have a new toy in the driveway, a very nice 1970 Chevy pickup.. She had no idea I was getting it. All she said was that I finally got something in a color that she likes... Neither of us asks and I'll never tell....

4 pointsDougC Buy her a snow shovel and then ask if she wants you to take that tractor back!

3 pointsThis is the team for 2015. Chains will be installed. Tires are loaded. I also have the bigger diesel and my F150 FX4. All equipment is stored in a heated garage. I think I will be ready. Cleat

3 pointsMy Mrs Rules took to the 520, no problems... no lie...drives her tractors...better than she drives her car.
-
3 pointsHer own tractor you say?????????????? Let me tell you about the time I tried to teach my wife to drive the 520H. Ok I said its an automatic trans. no clutch. GOOD she said .It was a warm spring afternoon in central Iowa. We live in the country on 20 acres 2 miles from town. She climbed on and I gave the instruction on how to operate. Starts just like my truck she said with a big smile! Now move the throttle lever till the tach shows about 2000 rpm. Now move the motion lever ahead slow and you will start moving. The tractor jumped ahead and sped away... By now she was screaming DOUG, DOUG and franticly turning the steering wheel . Push the brake pedel or move the lever to stop I yelled....................She shoved down on that brake pedel so hard It almost threw her off the tractor. I HATE THIS THING she screamed as she walked back toward the house............ Yeah maybe I should get her one..... Then I could be single again.......

3 pointsI'm single . And so too may be DougC very soon... On the otherhand, I find that it is easier to ask for forgiveness, than permission.

3 pointsI have to qualify this as perhaps not the best advise, but.... I few years back, I took my now X wife out for "a quiet weekend away, to celebrate our anniversary, " I also took the pick up " in case of snow" and we drove across 3 states. Darn was she upset when we picked up the engine I had just bought for my car.
-
3 pointsThe Squaw here supports every hobby that I've ever had.She NEVER questions any of my purchases.Without a doubt, she's the best woman that I've ever had in my life.

2 pointsgot for 300.00, was told that the original owner couldn't afford the mower deck with the horse, so he got the blueprints from the WH dealer and built it himself out of stainless steel. What i'm interested in is what model it should be. I thought 655 had a square hood. Bruce

2 pointsI compost the leaves all the time . I start picking them up about mid November and finally finish in January. Only have about 3/4 acre but a boat load of trees. Had too take down a white oak this year due to a lighting strike, one of the smaller trees , 27 inches at the stomp. Stomp is about 24 inches high. I have an enclosure for the leaves. Mow them up , pick up with vacuum wagon which cuts them up finer and finally push into enclosure with snow plow and the then turn over with rototiller. Makes real nice dirt in a couple of years.

2 pointsThanks Ed for the suggestion. I did not realize that there were options for the plastic part. Never did understand why someone like Wheel Horse, that built such heavy duty tractors, would make a plastic part especially in the area where it could get hit so easily! Doug And for Mike...it is an automatic. The only way to go with a snow plow is the hydraulic. When you get to be my age anything that helps get things up is an advantage!

2 pointsMy wife has mood swings. I tell her I want another tractor. Then she gets in a mood and swings. Duck, duck, duck. gawd they are hard to figure. The other species I mean. glenn I cant part with that much money for a piece of plastic, thats almost another machine. But thats why I get snow in my face every year. Glenn

2 pointsBe sure your not putting the tube in backwards, make sure the stem is on the up side, sometimes I put just a tiny bit of air in the tubes to get the wrinkles out then pull the core, to let the air back out.
-
2 pointsYou don't. Once I get the tire mounted, I hold the rubber part of the stem with a small pair of vice-grips, then remove the tool, and inflate. Once inflated, the vice-grips are removed and you are good to go.

1 pointI just told my wife of 41 years I had sent a deposit and was buying another 520H. A 1988 with snow blower, rear tiller and mower deck and that Friday was the expected date of delivery................ I thought post menopausal women werent supposed to be so volitile and explosive with their tempers.............. Holy cow!!!!!! I hadnt ducked and put my head so far between my shoulder blades since I was a kid and my mother was swinging a wooden spoon at me. Shes at work now so I thought I would try to get my pulse and breathing back to normal and seemed a topic on buying and news breaking was in order. How do you guys do it????????????

1 pointI just bought a new grommet and shut off valve from the dealer that sells TORO today!
-
1 pointThe tire store that loaded RimGuard in my tires broke the bead on the valve stem side. They replaced the rubber valve stem with a metal one then just poured the RimGuard along the edge of the rim. This puts the level of fluid just below the valve stem when the tire is in the upright position. If you go toThe RimGuard site they have a chart you can use. Good luck with your washer fluid. Dave Burley Sent from my tractor seat.

1 pointJust to add a little insight, the original book shows up from time to time on eBay and other venues. There are several factors that drove the price up. The scarcity of the book, and the fact that the picture of the naked lady driving the Wheel Horse at a nudist colony was removed from the second edition. Also the quality of the second edition left a lot to be desired. It is truly a market driven price. The 3rd edition, which is far and away the best, has the naked lady picture back in, and in addition has many more pages with more information. It includes a DVD with actual footage of the Ponds at work. Hope this helps a little.

1 pointI'm thinking that's a multi year. The left side looks like a 701. The single pulley screams 702 but it's probably a transplant. Definitely no later than a 62. I think the hood is a couple years later.
-
1 pointFrom the company? Or someone just has a new one? Last night i typed original cab company and it came up in the search results. Clicked on Toro and it showed the cab mounted on a 520H. If I remember right they cost $883 plus $35 shipping to my zip.I about fell off my chair. I thought they were discontinued and the only option was to buy used.
-
1 pointWow !! that's great, does she have a sister ? Oh, never mind I just remembered I'm married. I'd be interested as well!
-
1 pointI picked up a 1977 C-120 Automatic yesterday. The PO said the engine seized while mowing on a steep bank. I have not tried to turn the engine. For what I paid, I couldn't let this deal pass. The PO robbed some parts from the C-120 to put on another Wheel Horse, but this could have some possibilities! Oh...and a deck came with it, but 1 spindle shaft is broke.

1 pointI picked up a very nice and original 1045 a couple of weeks ago! Thanks to Mike Wall for selling it to me! It was previously owned by Clay Brooks before that. These are one of my favorite models WH ever made. I will keep it in original condition like most of my tractors. I will improve upon it's originality by adding some good parts with original patina. I already swapped out the busted up seat, added a NOS cigar lighter, NOS HL5 head light system and gave it a tune up and oil change! It is running pretty good now and looks even better than before! I am thinking about adding my side mounted sickle bar to it for show duty! That will be a beast for sure!http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/af352/Hammerhead43074/007_zpskkqojb9l.jpg]

1 pointMy wife is a Quilter and has more money tied up in computerized embroidery sewing machines and sergers than I do in , welders, wood working tools and a tool for every task combined. She accepts the concept of having dedicated tractors for every task and a few for back-ups so i'm safe. When I brought home my third 953 she was dubious about it ever looking good, then I reminded her what my street rod looked like when I bought it. I haven't been getting much done in the barn lately because I am building cabinets for our utility room, which makes the Mrs. Very Happy.
-
1 pointI feel left out because I don't have a computer image of a chest X-ray showing the wires that put my sternum back together when I had my two heart valves replaced. They glow like crazy. The valves don't show that much, they are artificial, some sort of high tech material but not carbon fiber. I like to brag about having serial numbers for body parts.

1 pointWell, I traded tractors a while back, and as I was leaving, I noticed a twin to my pressure washer sitting by the trash cans. I mentioned I had a twin to it until my friend blew the engine. He told me I could have it if I wanted, the pump was dead. Today i I put my pump on it, and it works great, and didn't cost a penny to fix.

1 pointI picked up the snowblower from the Fastenal store I had it shipped to. All I can say is that if you ever need to ship something large, don't hesitate to use Fastenal. They are very inexpensive and it's painless to set up a shipment. It cost me $175 to ship this from South Dakota to Connecticut. The seller dropped it off last Tuesday and it arrived here Yesterday. They even used their forklift to load it in my truck. This beasts shipping weight was 525lbs. Lets take 25lbs off for the pallet and this blower comes in at 500lbs! That's just ! I should have enough ballast. I've got the two rear wheel weights that weigh 90lbs each. Next I have 8 suitcase weights that are 35lbs each that will go out on the 3 point hitch. Then I have the cab which I guess weights around 80lbs or so and then my weight. I also plan on mounting my small 2000 watt generator on the 3 point hitch so I can run a heater in the cab. With all of that I should be good on the counter weight. The snow blower has it's own hydraulic piston for raising and lowering. It also uses a hydraulic piston and pulley/cable system for the chute rotation. I plan on putting a 12volt actuator on for the tilting of the chute tip. Lets hope this chucks snow as far as some of the same ones I've seen videos of on youtube!

1 pointSo after not running the tractor in like 4 months and putting on the new throttle and choke cables I rolled it outside and it fired right up with no adjustment of the cables needed.Let it run for a little while and drove it around a little then over into the workshop. I installed the spacers that came with the rear hydro outlet kit that lifts the rear of the seat pan allowing access to the connectors. I set the seat pan in place and tried the bolts to make sure everything lined up. Then I added the new decals, anti skid foot mats and installed the light bezels with new L.E.D. lights. Slipped the hood on and rolled it outside to take some pictures. The green looks a little lighter then I would have liked but oh well. I have to keep reminding myself this is a worker and not a show tractor! I'm going to replace the fuel lines and pick ups before I permanently install the seat pan. Still need a new headlight lens and 3 new L.E.D. bulbs for the headlights. Also need to replace my seat and tires. The seat is cracked really bad plus I want armrests. Now just to finish this up and move on to the cab.

1 pointThis is our little west highland terrier , Skye , she is 2 years old and sadly she is totally blind , we also have 2 parrots
-
1 pointThis holds the valve in place while you install the tire. Remove this tool and HOLD the valve stem with 1 hand and air it up with the other hand!
