3 pointsYou have to watch out for low flying planes at Bud's! I shot a video of the ride on Ol Shep. It appears fine on my desktop, but for some reason it played sideways. That's how Youtube recorded it also. I don't see any way to fix it. So here it is. Don't hurt your necks!

3 pointsBump. I haven't been here in 3 years... and that's about how long she's sat in storage. Life got in the way lol. I just brought it into work this past weekend and I've been working on getting it running. I've thrown a whopping $70 at it so far in front wheel bearings, fuel tank bushing (it fell apart when I tried to drain the tank... huge stinky mess), fuel line, petcock, filter, hose, carb rebuild kit and a spark plug. I got it to pop on starting fluid before I messed with anything, which was very encouraging. Today I just picked up & assembled the fuel parts, haven't done the carb yet, but it DID run on it's own fuel supply for about 10 seconds and the motor flooded and gas started spilling out of the front of the carb. Next stop is the carb rebuild.

2 pointsI recently acquired a free B-80 that had been sitting outside for a number of years. I forgot to check the exact model number but it is a 4-speed, making it a 1974 or 1975 based on the "Master Model List" (http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/wheel_horse_products_master_model_list.pdf). It comes with a 36" rear discharge deck which apparently has been converted to side-discharge via a welded-on end from another deck. I was told the engine (K181 8 HP) was unusable and indeed was seized due to rust, so initially the plan was to borrow its transmission for my C-160 while its 8-speed undergoes a rebuild (broken High-Low selector fork, leaky seals). However upon pulling the head I found the piston was only ~3/8" from TDC and I was able to free it with some PB Blaster and a makeshift cheater bar on the flywheel. The valves were both stuck open (possibly the original reason it began sitting) but I was able to free them up as well by tapping them. It now turns pretty smoothly by hand so I think it may be easier to get this engine running than to do the transmission swap with the C-160. I'd like to try this without doing a full rebuild but have some concerns (like breaking the connecting rod). There is a slight ring of rust/carbon at the top of the cylinder sleeve (due to the position of the piston while it sat) but it doesn't seem to affect the piston travel and I think it is above the level of the top piston ring. The rest of the cylinder sleeve looks smooth and shiny. The piston rings may be stuck. I'm not sure that I saw the compression release working (exhaust valve is supposed to open slightly at ~2/3 up the compression stroke). Will the valves just get stuck again if I don't remove and clean/grind them? Also the rest of the tractor is missing a few parts: - Gas tank has been replaced with a birds nest. Local dealer quoted ~$140 for a new one, though I should be able to borrow the C-160's for testing. - Missing brake pedal and possibly the first linkage (pedal to jackshaft/lever) - Air cleaner cover and wingnut - Muffler - Lights (not really an issue, I'd rather rig up LED's anyway) If I remember I will try to get some pictures (though they won't be pretty ) and post the exact model information. Any advice on the engine or leads on the missing parts?

2 pointsSo another horse followed me home tonight. This time a 1966 wheel horse 1076. This is my first wheel a matic tractor and I must say, it is pretty nice. It also came with a deck, push blade, and wagon. Wagon is pretty rusty, but he did throw in some extra parts. I even had the trailer I hauled it on thrown in on the deal and just had to pay title transfer. It was a good day lol!

Nice of you to notice Seriously, I was gonna wait until I had the Cam straightened out but I have a lot of time it getting this thing cleaned up, primed, painted and axles polished. I spent close to an hour with steel brush, brass brush and emory wheel to polish the axle shafts. They were less than appealing and one side required the 10 ton puller to break the hub free, I plan on having this tractor until I no longer am around and want to be able to get the hubs off without the same struggle in future. So Polished them and when hubs go on, so will anti-seize. As I am not trying to win a show with mine, I am doing my GT14 with black frame and Hydro with Red Body. As opposed to all red. To me, it almost looks like some tractors are dipped in red vat:)

2 pointsIt looks like it might be early next week before I get the Cam Block and plastic Cam replaced and figured the Hydro and Motor deserve to be bragged about a bit:-) Also got the frame and hydro foot peg mocked up and ready to weld in place....and lots of internal parts painted but no pics of those until they are on the tractor again. Was also able to add a 220 receptacle for my welder this afternoon.

2 pointsWe are definitely down to the point where we will have to make some "off the wall" picks and hope you win those in order to advance in the standings. The first several weeks is where you want to do well and use that advantage to help carry you through some of the inevitable upsets that will occur. So hat's off to you guys that picked em right early on. I wasn't one of you so it only gets tougher for me from here on out. You can always tell the guys who lagged behind early by their picks later on. They get a little crazy.

1 pointThe cup point on the original set screws is likely mashed. Go out and buy new grade 8 setscrews. While you are at it, buy an 8 point socket so you can really torque those suckers down. It is not possible to develop enough torque to bite into the key using a 3/8 open end wrench. If you do this, the problem goes away (maybe you need a new key, but that is a whole different problem). If you just retighten the existing screws, the problem is likely to reoccur.

1 pointA hammer and dolly that fits the area is your first best friend! Then fill with autobody filler. I've read of guys using JB Weld but that sounds like big time overkill to me. Not saying it's bad, just not necessary. I'd say that rust is the biggest cause of failure! Even the slightest will come back in time to haunt you. Grinding and blasting is great but you still need to metal prep and use good primers! There's even a sprayable polyester filler that works wonders when primer fillers just aren't quite enough to fill the pits.

This is preceded by rain all week and more expected rain on Monday. Bert and Linder, are you thinking of maybe moving the date of the meet and greet to later in the month when it is hopefully drier and not raining?

1 pointHere are some shots of the 520 tires. Two inch wheel spacers from http://www.xtrememotorworks.com/Parts%20Catalog/Cub%20Cadet%20Parts%20Dual%20Wheel%20Spacers.htm These wheels came from a 94 Craftsman. They did not have the correct offset, hence the spacers. It widens the track just slightly, which help swith stability on some of the hills and slopes I have to deal with. You can see some of the hills in the last pic. I will post a separate topic on the craftsman setup after I get some pics/vid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointGot a few more parts blasted today which just added to my work load. I need to add a transmission mounting plate. There are no cracks but some deep pits that have weakened the plate. I took some time to work on the locked up 1533 bearings. Lots of pb blaster, patience, and TLC. In Good news they are actually in decent shape. Spin free and smooth.
