7 pointsI think, I'm really starting to... take a shine to this 500 Special survivor here.

5 pointsI came across a pair of 24x12x12 turfs in my shed while putting away all the pool stuff. Decided to see what they look like on my B100. Before: After: Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

5 pointsA neighboring community is having their annual fest this weekend. We were there last night to eat, and will be back on Sunday for the parade. My Mom & Dad, brother and his son and my step daughter & husband as well as my wife and I spent most of the day today pressure washing, cleaning, fueling, tire airing, oil checking and loading 11 tractors! Boy am I tired! 10 tractors are mine and 1 belongs to @hollandvfd6 I know, I know...cut the BS and get with the photos!

5 pointsDon't throw out that old trans...it is worth opening up to take a look. Being the welded hub is on the right side, you can separate that case without pulling that hub. Take the case apart as by the book. Get all the gears out except for the differential. Turn the differential by hand and one by one take the nuts off the bolts holding it together. Now you can take the differential apart, pop the "C" clip holding that welded axle and pull it out. "BOOM-SHA-KA-LAK-A" Put in new axle and hub and seals and if needed a few bearings. What year is the Raider 12...or the Model Number?? All the Raider 12's came with 10 pinion, limited slip differentials. The brake drum is in 2 different locations between the 68' 69' and 70' and the 71' and 72. The first 3 have either the #5060 or #5071 transmission...the brake drum is in the hole closest to the axle housing. The later 71' 72' have the #5073 tranny and the brake drum is in the next hole closer to the front of the transmission. You will have to fabricate some brake linkage if your trans is different from Mike's. Just sayin.

5 pointsThe hub being welded to the shaft probably indicates the previous owner had a key way/set screw problem and didn't care to fix it properly. Perhaps a member from the Rochester or Buffalo area could take a look at it with you. Chances are the axle bearings are not good causing the seal leak. Jack up the rear end and see if you have any up and down play at the point where the axle exits the trans, if so you need to pull it apart and replace the bearings as well as seals. As for the welded hub, you may be able to carefully grind away the weld and remove the hub, If so you can file the area smooth to replace the seal if that is all that is needed. There was a great thread posted on here a few weeks back on repairing a bad key way if that needs to be done.Take a couple of good close ups of the hub and welds and post them so we can see how badly butchered it really is. The biggest fear in buying a used trans axle is that it may not be any better than the one you have, used shafts and hubs should be easy enough to come be from parts vendors on here.

4 pointsThanks Doc! I was in business for myself for 10 years as an HVAC Contractor before working for my local County. Many of those tools were in my HVAC shop. Funny you should ask that question Rich. I just retired from Berrien County this last Dec after 25 years of service, I worked at the Jail / Sherriff's dept. as Maintenance Supervisor for 23 of those years. 3 Years ago I was transferred to another building (Court House) in my home town 30 miles away from the Jail. Our County has two court houses. Anyways That was cool cause I didn't have to drive 60 miles round trip each day. The bad part is the building they transferred me to didn't have Jack Chit for tools and equipment. They asked me to design and fabricate 8 Life Ring holders because people were jumping off the Pier in Saint Joseph and were drowning. Soooo Ole Duke took on the challenge if they paid for all materials and my usage of my equipment. Anyway I worked out of my home for two weeks completing that Job. As you can tell by the Videos I will show, everyone got the credit for it except the guy who did it. But that's the way GOVERMENT is a bunch of thankless BA$tards! Here are some pics of the Jig and life rings I built and Video's. These were made out of 1/2 Steel Okay call me Okey Overkill! Oh by the way, I did make myself a Nice welding Table out of the scrap that was left over! Or was that extra material I ordered? Makes a good table to mix drinks on too! And remember Boys you stir yer drinks with a CRAPMAN Screw Driver! Beats welding off a short file cabinet I was using! ~Duke Click Link Below For News Video http://www.wsbt.com/news/local/life-rings-save-4-lives-in-berrien-county/27273102

3 pointsThe tractor model # is 1 6231 , and the serial # is 481328 , its a raider 12 , I haven't even looked to see what year it is yet but I am sure someone will tell me , as far as making brake rods and parts like that is no big deal in my shop , I have a full fab shop with all the tools to build anything , keep your eye on future post and you will see what I am going to do to this raider , its going to be a fun tractor to take to the shows around here , hopefully I don't make anyone mad at me for not returning it to stock form

3 pointsI have 10 tractors, my step-daughter has 1 (for now). All 11 went to the parade, and fortunately all 11 made it to the end....all on their own power!
-
3 pointsDrivers...Dad, me, my brother, my nephew, my sister, her husband, my wife, her daughter & son-in-law, and her mother, and my daughter. Drivers ages 15 to 82. Tractor ages 21 to 51. The 4th generation kids were to ride in the wagon, but something else took priority (according to the SIL's ex-wife).

3 pointsI picked up a NOS Cab at the big show in June and just found time to mount it. Been a real busy Summer. It is a 5XI cab and I was a little apprehensive about buying it but I couldn't pass it up for the price. I found Horsefixers thread about mounting one on a Classic and it was very helpful. Thanks Duke! I used some of his tricks and came up with some of my own. I molested no parts except the rear mounting bracket which is minimal. Glad this project is done. Getting real close to Steelie season.
-
3 pointsYes Lets see some pics and check the play. I have a spare 8 spd trans and I believe hubs as well

2 pointsGents, Wanted to introduce myself...I started looking for a garden tractor to restore a few years ago and having no background in this area started from a blank slate. Looked at a variety of tractors and had never heard of Wheel Horse. Stumbled onto this forum and have been lurking ever since. I narrowed my search down to a manual transmission Wheel Horse and was searching every CL from South Jersey to Maine. I ended up finding a 1990? 416-8 restored by a local guy and his son. I was planning to restore one myself, but they had done an amazing job and had it for sale on CL. After a few months with no movement, I saved my pennies and ended up picking it up, interestingly, they live only a few miles from me. The work they did was meticulous and the tractor is beautiful. I have been mowing with it now for several months and yesterday picked up a 48" snow plow from a guy an hour away. I'm planning to knock the worst of the rust off and wire wheel the beejezus out of it, repaint it and have it ready for whatever this winter throws at us. Today while mowing, I had my first scare. The tractor was driving fine, and suddenly it refused to shift into either 1 or R. A quick search here turned up the "dog tooth set screw" issue and I had it back to shifting in a few minutes. So, thanks to all of you for a wonderful forum and the reams of information about these machines. I didn't have a very strong tractor bias prior to discovering WH, but now I'm hooked. Pics when I get them.

2 pointshas anyone tried one of these DIY loader/tractor it looks like a good thing if you have the skills I would like to try it but I would like to give it a try I would like to hear from one of you guys that are better at this stuff than me https://www.cadplans.com/cadtrac/cadtrac-1500.html

2 pointsThis is usually the biggest and best show of the year. Everyone trying to sell their stuff before winter Everyone looking to buy their winter projects and everyone there to display their stuff before putting it away for winter. http://www.qvea.org/Zagray_Farm.html http://www.qvea.org/resources/fall-show-flyer-2015.pdf

2 pointsSometime a guys has to do what he has to do! I am presently down to 9 from 24. When they start flowing out the stable doors and into the yard its time to have some intervention. Whats left in the stable is my restored 56, 58, (701 in primer and parts) 702, and 68 Lawn Ranger. 2) 520's and the 417A. One of the 520's will be a loader the other one if for parts. Not Shown is The Senior in my shop and the 520 Snow Chucker.

2 pointsThe other day rain was in the forecast so I had to hurry up and get the yard mowed. I spent just under 2 hours to finish up and then I thought of a project I have always wanted to do. I used the Charger 12 with the Tecumseh HH120 engine. I have this Fluke IR Temperature measuring tool. It's good for finding hot bearings, brakes etc. So I used it to measure the exhaust pipe temp, just in front of the muffler, with the engine at idle. The temperature measured 565 deg F, and this was just as I finished mowing. I thought this was interesting to know. Someday I should meaure the head temperature at the cooling air exhaust side. G.

2 pointsThe 1-6231 is a 1968 Raider 12 with the #5060 transmission. If you look, the brake drum is in the hole closest to the axle housing. Fabricating is not a real problem...just know that there is a difference and Mike's could be the same or the other one. Just kind of a "heads up". Mike is excellent people and you will not go wrong by him. Just do not throw out that trans...it is fixable and someone will need one. Maybe Mike can grab it if you work out a deal. Take a look at your 1st picture...it looks like there is a hose clamp on the axle between the axle housing and the hub.

2 pointsDefinitely Mike...engine, and rims.... was just looking at decals, hate the original balloon... thinking the crossed flags here are the perfect fit for the theme of this , even if not factory correct.

2 pointsCraig I doubt they stop allowing the riding of tractors. The main reason Kent had to stop is the property its on is owned by the State of CT. Unfortunately our state is not friendly when it comes to "un-registered" vehicles. Total B.S. But unfortunately have to play by their rules. I believe Zagray is privately owned property so not an issue. I'm hoping to be there Saturday.
-
2 pointsAs far as I know, you can still ride around. That's always the nice part about attending these shows, cruising around so you can see everything.
-
2 pointsAny friction in the PTO needle bearing will cause the PTO to spin while declutched. It may need cleaned and relubed.

2 pointsHow 'bout this "rare "... B-145 Elec-Trak...current(pun)north jersey C/L ad?
-
2 pointsThe Difference between men and women? I read this and laughed my azz off. I showed this to my wife and her response? "That's not a domestic chore.." No laugh, no smile. I could tell her mind was racing to come up with some Sunday jobs for me. I split quick. God bless 'em!
-
2 pointsBe very VERY thankful you have over 100 PSI compression on the rear cyl of your Onan. Bottom spec is 95 so 110 is excellent. Do your regular preventive maintenance and keep the engine tins and the intake screen clean and your good to go.

2 pointsGood luck! Would love to see a member here end up with it (and share pics!) Frankly I cant believe that Stevebo, KenB or Fireman haven't scooped it up yet.... Mike........ I am currently in a "non buying" mode (except for the 522xi/loader). I call BS on you Jeff........ X2 on that one... Lots of talk! Sent a message to owner but no response yet. I think I'm about 10 miles away but until \ unless he answers might as well be 1000 miles Good luck! Would love to see a member here end up with it (and share pics!) I have slowed down quite a bit these days as well but if the right tractor and deal come along and I can beat you to it I'm all in...

2 pointsI like the striped ball park look, hence the custom full length roller set up. The modified height adjustment has 6 closely spaced setting Vs the normal 5. The seat is the one thing I'm not fond of. The high back makes it hard for an old guy to get his leg over. I bought the seat from Blains Farm & Fleet. I think I'll install it on my 4016 Case and buy another seat with a lower back for my Farmall which, by the way, is painted Ford Tractor Red.

2 pointsDoc, Well that's not my garage if you look at the last picture you will see a doorway to the right just before the lit up WH Sign. Through that doorway is my shop. The stable is an Add on to the shop. My shop is 24 X 20 and the garage is 24 X 30 And the stable is 25 X 12 Totaling 1500 sq ft. Yep I wished my shop looked that clean too.

1 pointAt least that's what I tell my wife, only tractors and flashlights....but she saw me cleaning up a mess in the garage today and asked if I was a strap collector . I converted this nasty pile to a neat organized pile.....and found my jumper cables in it as well! Mike.........

1 pointSo I'm the proud new owner of a new D series, D160 I believe. Its actually a bit of an anomaly to me. The guy who sold it to me said it was a D180. After looking at the engine model its an Onan BF-ms/3268f. I see it is a 16hp and the tractor model 71-160s01-13089 says its a c series but as you can tell it is most certainly a D. Any pros and cons about the engine trans I have in this tractor? Also it is not running, I know its a bit of a gamble but the deck the 3 point and the fact that he said it ran and had good working hydraulics this spring then lost spark gives me hope!! Anyways I wanted to see what thoughts you all had on this tractor, its not my first wheel horse I currently have a 314-8 and my dad has a 1974 c-10. Love these machines they even built our little C series like tanks!! Excited to see what this one will do. Also anyone from the Michigan area have a recommendation on a repair guy that might have some knowledge in wheel horses specifically. And no worries I added a little tractor porn to hopefully help get some responses lol

1 pointI temp'ed my Onan just the other day as I was trying to cure my exhaust paint and wanted to make sure it hit the cure temp... I read 650 within 10 minutes with only an idle hydro pump for load...

1 pointWell the above QB's all lost as expected. Bears played special teams like a dumpster fire. And speaking of fires, Rams tried to burn up the field before the game started. They pulled an old shop vac out of Jeff fisher's garage sale pile to suck up the extinguisher chemicals. Big ben got hurt and the last person in America who should be allowed to play in the NFL led the Steelers to victory. Cincy and the Ravens in another "Defensive Slugfest" with the Ginger throwing for a couple and running for one. The child beater got off on the Chargers and the Red zone announcer called Pondwater I mean Bridgewater "Teddy Two Gloves" The Jags had no business playing the Pats. no fair the Pats get 2 byes they cheat again!. Miami should stay in England next week after the game and give their fans a break. And How far has Colin Kaperklink fallen?
-
1 pointGot a few more parts blasted today which just added to my work load. I need to add a transmission mounting plate. There are no cracks but some deep pits that have weakened the plate. I took some time to work on the locked up 1533 bearings. Lots of pb blaster, patience, and TLC. In Good news they are actually in decent shape. Spin free and smooth.

1 pointIf you are looking to upgrade your deck, dont worry about tracking down stuff for your current one. There are usually some decent used decks for sale (sometimes attached to horses still!), so browse through the for sale section or post a wanted ad and be sure to include your general location so that people know where they can help you out. With that much damage, there is a real good chance that you tweaked your deck and it will likely not mow level ever again. I highly recommend getting rid of the bramble and other non-grass stuff in your yard as you will be going through mower decks faster than belts . With 11hp I would not go larger than 42", even then you might see a bit of a struggle through the tall stuff. Like mentioned above, look for C series or 300, 400, or 500 series tractors and decks. All will interchange except the 37" deck, it needs smaller front wheels. There is a grader blade listed for sale on here right now in Michigan, these are not rare, but are not common either and can command a fairly high price. I had mine shipped from Maine, cost $80 or so in shipping. This can be shipped UPS. FEL (front end loader) are also not very common and will run you $1500 or so in decent shape without a tractor. I have never owned one, but I think the general consensus is that you will want a dedicated tractor for a FEL. The 520HC or 90+ 520's have heavy duty 1" front spindles and seem to be better suited for loader operation, but any of the C, 300, 400, 500 series will run them. Generators ARE rare and ARE expensive. Many just have them as collectable. You can adapt a belt drive generator head to work if you are handy, but I would recommend just buying a generator. As fun as it is having one less engine to maintain, the wheel horses are expensive generators and will only run a couple hours on a full 3 gallon tank. I got a harbor freight 7kw generator for the same price as I would have paid for a wheel horse one and it has a 7 gallon tank and will run for 12+ hours without racking up the hours on my horses. Have fun, this is an awesome and addicting hobby! And be patient, you will eventually collect all the parts and tractors you need if you keep a vigilant eye on craigslist, this forum and ebay!

1 pointAre you saying that DA BEARS are going to bring in Tebow??? I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT. IF I SAID WHAT I REALLY WANT TO SAY HERE...I WOULD BE CROSSING THE LINE. WHAT DON'T DA BEARS UNDERSTAND?? IT IS NOT THE OFFENSE...IT IS THE DEFENSE THAT IS OUT TO LUNCH. I COULD THROW THE BALL WITH THIS OFFENSE...IT IS THE DEFENSE THAT IS NOT SHOWING UP. THESE GUYS NEED TO FIGURE OUT IF THEY WANT TO PLAY "PRO" FOOTBALL OR JUST LIVE IN THEIR COLLEGE ATMOSPHERE WHERE THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION IS TO LEARN HOW TO TURN OFF THE LIGHTS IN THE GYM. ONE OTHER THING...THESE COLLEGE GUYS GOT THE TIGER BY THE TAIL AND THEY ARE GETTING ARRESTED FOR FELONY CHARGES...LOOKING FOR THE DALLAS COWBOYS TO PICK THEM UP?? THEY CAN ONLY CARRY SO MANY FELONY GUYS. IS IT GLOBAL WARMING??...OR JUST STUPID PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK AND JUST DO NOT GET IT. I AM WORRIED THAT COLLEGE AND PROS...AND HIGH SCHOOL (FOR THAT MATTER) HAVE GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE FRENZY OF "BS"...IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY...AND SOMEBODY IS REAPING IN THE BENEFITS OF THESE KIDS. NORTHWESTERN STUDENTS KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON AND TRIED TO CHANGE THINGS IN COURT...I THINK THEY DID NOT GET A FAVORABLE OUTCOME...THEY WERE TRYING TO OVERCOME BIG MONEY. OK...IT IS A TINDER BOX, AND EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION. I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THE MONEY IS RUINING THE SPORT...LOOK WHAT HAPPENED IN TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL WHERE THEY BLIND-SIDED TACKLED THE REF...WTF. IT IS COMING TO A HEAD AND THE NFL AND THE NCAA AND WHAT IS GOING ON IN HIGH SCHOOLS...IT IS STARTING TO HAPPEN. YOU KNOW WHAT...IS THERE A PURE SPORT OUT THERE ANYMORE??? I DO NOT KNOW...MAYBE GOLF...BUT THERE IS A TON OF MONEY THERE ALSO. NOT EVEN CHESS WOULD MAKE THE GRADE...HOW ABOUT PULLED PORK, BARBECUE...I DOUBT THAT IS A PURE SPORT EITHER. IS EVERYTHING CORRUPT??? I AM STARTING TO THINK SO.
