14 pointsI do have some more "vintage" footage of the old tractor owned by my dad. I just uploaded a video from a home movie, taken with regular 8mm film, probably in 1964. I am the little tyke driving it in the video, my older brother Jack started it up for me. This was taken in Emsworth, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKbB4oTky2s&feature=youtu.be I'll take some current pictures of my uncles wheelhorse next and post them maybe tomorrow.

7 pointsI have owned 2 old wheelhorse tractors for about 20 years now, that were originally owned by my dad and uncle, and I'm finally ready to part with them. I have questions about their value and the best approach to finding the right buyer. I am located in St. Paul, MN Wheelhorse 1: Was owned by my dad, acquired around 1961-2. I think it is a Suburban model, not sure. Engine was replaced with more current Briggs 7hp. steering wheel replaced, head light added, other modifications to go with an electric-start engine that was on it in the 70s. I'm currently trying to get this one fully functional, (I have the mowing deck) but the Briggs has no spark and having trouble getting that fixed. Am I wasting my time on the Briggs? (Will any buyer immediately yank the engine and replace it with an original 4hp Koehler?) I'm thinking this one might be worth around $300 if I get it fully functional and cleaned up...not sure if that is a pipe dream, considering it has so many non-original modifications to it? In the attached pictures, it is the one with the family around it (that picture was taken in 1963) and the one with the blue seat (picture taken 9-21-15) Wheelhorse 2: Was owned by my uncle, I think he bought it brand new around 1959 or 1960? I think it might be an RJ. It is mostly original, but also not running. I hope to get it running also. It has a mower deck as well, and original tires, I have not seen any other wheelhorses of this vintage with those front tires. I'm thinking with this one being more original with a Koehler engine on it, maybe it is worth more than the other one, though I'm not sure on that, and it probably depends on me getting it operational. In the pictures below it is one the man (my uncle) riding it and looking at the camera, with the silver fish on the cabin behind it. (I think the picture was taken in August, 1960.) If anyone wants to contact me about these I can be reached at farmerie@yahoo.com. Otherwise, I'm just interested in hearing opinions on what I should do to maximize their value and make them visible to whoever would want them the most....also wondering what I can hope to get for them.

7 pointsThe first attempt happened just as the forum crashed for a minute. Admins can delete it, hopefully. I got tired of renting trailers, so I finally broke down and got one of the Harbor Freight DIY trailers. Turns out they will take the 20% off coupon on it. I was surprised, they won't take it for most expensive stuff It's coming along nicely. I also bought a welder and found out I suck at it as bad as I did in school.

4 pointsI think the first picture with the family around it has value, at least to me! There aren't many original pictures of the late 50's early 60's pictures around, at least not as good as yours. I would never have of thought the 58/59' RJs hoods would have such a smooth glossy finish as the picture shows when they were new. Thanks for posting it.
-
4 pointsI wouldn't worry too much about getting either of them running to sell... true collectors of these little round hoods are concerned with originality, more than anything else. As far as selling them, I think you've come to the right place, right here on once our members see them, they'll pretty much, sell themselves. Have anymore of these vintage photo's to post up here... they contain a lot of good info, lot's to learn from them...thank you for posting them.

3 pointsI have a chance to buy a 520xi with mower deck and push blade for $600. I have not physically seen the tractor yet, just a pic. The seller claims there are no known issues besides flat front tire. What do you all think is this a good deal or not?

3 pointsI plan to celebrate this Bears season by not watching a single, painfull second of them. If management doesn't care, why should I? Catch more fish, cut more wood, play with my tractors. The Cubs will score more runs than the Bears score points in October. With the first pick of the 2016 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select...

2 pointsWith "The Summer that Wasn't" due to my accident and losing my buddy, Mrs. Sailor and I are going to be good to ourselves after all the recent trials and tribulations. It's a 7-day cruise from Quebec City to Boston. This is from the web, the Veendam in Quebec City where we will embark. It will feel good to be back at sea again!

2 pointsCan someone tell me what year this tractor is , no motor but looks like all the parts are there , model # T656 , serial # 255638 , and what size motor was in this
-
2 pointsDo yourself a favor and replace the chain and idler sprockets now. That thing is probably 20-30 years old. Looks to be in good shape. A few bucks now should spare you a lot of aggravation in February. I've never heard of equipment failing at a convenient time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

2 pointsAre you saying that DA BEARS are going to bring in Tebow??? I JUST CAN'T BELIEVE IT. IF I SAID WHAT I REALLY WANT TO SAY HERE...I WOULD BE CROSSING THE LINE. WHAT DON'T DA BEARS UNDERSTAND?? IT IS NOT THE OFFENSE...IT IS THE DEFENSE THAT IS OUT TO LUNCH. I COULD THROW THE BALL WITH THIS OFFENSE...IT IS THE DEFENSE THAT IS NOT SHOWING UP. THESE GUYS NEED TO FIGURE OUT IF THEY WANT TO PLAY "PRO" FOOTBALL OR JUST LIVE IN THEIR COLLEGE ATMOSPHERE WHERE THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION IS TO LEARN HOW TO TURN OFF THE LIGHTS IN THE GYM. ONE OTHER THING...THESE COLLEGE GUYS GOT THE TIGER BY THE TAIL AND THEY ARE GETTING ARRESTED FOR FELONY CHARGES...LOOKING FOR THE DALLAS COWBOYS TO PICK THEM UP?? THEY CAN ONLY CARRY SO MANY FELONY GUYS. IS IT GLOBAL WARMING??...OR JUST STUPID PEOPLE TRYING TO MAKE A BUCK AND JUST DO NOT GET IT. I AM WORRIED THAT COLLEGE AND PROS...AND HIGH SCHOOL (FOR THAT MATTER) HAVE GOT CAUGHT UP IN THE FRENZY OF "BS"...IT IS ALL ABOUT MONEY...AND SOMEBODY IS REAPING IN THE BENEFITS OF THESE KIDS. NORTHWESTERN STUDENTS KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON AND TRIED TO CHANGE THINGS IN COURT...I THINK THEY DID NOT GET A FAVORABLE OUTCOME...THEY WERE TRYING TO OVERCOME BIG MONEY. OK...IT IS A TINDER BOX, AND EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION. I JUST WANT TO SAY THAT THE MONEY IS RUINING THE SPORT...LOOK WHAT HAPPENED IN TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL WHERE THEY BLIND-SIDED TACKLED THE REF...WTF. IT IS COMING TO A HEAD AND THE NFL AND THE NCAA AND WHAT IS GOING ON IN HIGH SCHOOLS...IT IS STARTING TO HAPPEN. YOU KNOW WHAT...IS THERE A PURE SPORT OUT THERE ANYMORE??? I DO NOT KNOW...MAYBE GOLF...BUT THERE IS A TON OF MONEY THERE ALSO. NOT EVEN CHESS WOULD MAKE THE GRADE...HOW ABOUT PULLED PORK, BARBECUE...I DOUBT THAT IS A PURE SPORT EITHER. IS EVERYTHING CORRUPT??? I AM STARTING TO THINK SO.

2 pointsThe pics and video are great. I'm gonna have go through the old family photos now. I know there are some WH pics in there!
-
2 pointsShould do the trick. That looks like they revised the old lap band diet... to a new, improved neck band version.
-
2 pointsIt looks to be a 1998 with a 48" deck. If it runs, make sure that the temperature gauge doesn't move into the "Red." The front bumper valance is commonly found broken. Pricey to replace but it is just for looks. A deflated tire is no big deal.
-
2 pointsHard to beat the cool factor of a little red round hood... running a set of dual ags in the rear. If you ultimately do decide to go the dualie route... I'm pretty sure, you'll be making your's...the happiest kid on the block.

2 pointsScott, I would like a large. Since you won't deal with PayPal, Stevasaurus has graciously agreed to pay you and pick it up for me.

2 pointsAs Craig has said, a few current photos and a bit of information and they will find a new home. It is cool to have vintage photos and a lot of history on the . That won't add much economic value, but it makes them more interesting to the buyer. Presuming the photos are of both tractors, they are both RJs. If that big headlight resulted in a big hole being cut in the front of the hood it would detract from the value, a good hood to replace it would run $100 or more. If that is the case you may have trouble getting $ 300, wrong engine, wrong steering wheel and a cut hood is a lot to get beyond. Go ahead and post adds for both of them in the for sale section and state a price OBO and see what kind of interest you generate; too far for me to drive or I would be interested in both.

2 pointsThat would be Jake Kuhn. Send him a PM and he may be able to help you out.

1 pointGood evening, it's nice to be back with the Red Square forum. I had a membership many, many years ago under a similar name and I was active in a yahoo group for some time. I have owned several different Wheel Horse tractors over the years. The last one I owned and sold about 3 years ago was my 1960 Suburban 550. That was the last one to go and I miss it. I was even the proud owner of two signed "Straight from the Horses Mouth" books and I had a Wheel Horse banner flying in my garage for years. After getting out of the collecting end of it, I came upon a need for another riding mower. I always wanted a more modern garden tractor so I was lucky to recently buy a 1987 Wheel Horse 414-8 with the original 14 hp Kohler. The prior owner thought it was a 1984 but after reading a little about this model it didn't start until 1986? It has a 42 inch mower deck and a snow thrower attachment. The engine runs nice and strong and everything is original on it as far as I can tell. I used to be more familiar with some of the older models but I don't know much about the later models. As for me, I'm from MN. I love to fly, I play guitar, love canoeing in the BWCA, I restore vintage woodworking machines, I wrench on old lawn tractors once in awhile and I'm in the middle of a 1976 Goldwing project. I've finally got another horse in the stable and am looking forward to reading, learning and fixing up this great machine. Thanks!!

1 pointso I just picked up what I think is a 1940's midland walk behind in ruff but ok shape and here's my resto so far. I think the original motor is supposed to be a Briggs but unknown. Tires are shot but rims seem to be not bad. Instead of putting the original size of 5x12 I think the 6x12 look good or maybe some big fat 23x12 ags? Who knows. Also trying to think what motor to do I have a spare k181 or maybe the harbor freight motor?
-
1 pointI don't know. I see the front bumper cover is broken maybe you should hold off. Give me the address and I will check it for you right away.

1 pointInspect the washer on top of the cam plate, mine was in two pieces. I assume someone tightened it too tight.
-
1 pointSorry if I mislead you. I haven't found an actual "Red" trailer forum. But if you look at Jeep, 4x4, teardrop trailer, etc. forums they pop up as topics. For example, the Jeep owners change the axle and wheels to build a nice short trailer for off-road cutting down the 1720 lb trailer like yours. There has been a number of postings on greasing the hubs as well.
-
1 pointI'd pass! Ahhh, where is it? Oh, heck! The deck, tires and wheel weights are almost worth that! If I'm still unclear somehow,, BUY IT! Many will tell you that is the best WH ever made! Just hard to find attachments....
-
1 pointAs far as making new spindles, I made some for a 702 a few years back. The hard part once the snap ring groove is cut is making the bend in the right place. Drilling the hole for the steering arm was tricky also. If I were to do it again I would drill the end of the spindle like later models and tap it for a bolt to hold the wheel on.
-
1 pointThat video is just incredible! It's the only original one I've ever seen. Thank you or posting it.

1 pointI think I'm officially ready for the winter. Found a complete 42" plow on ebay for $50. I had to drive about an hour and a half to get it but I think it's worth it. So, all in all it cost me about $65 including gas.

1 pointFinally got to watch some of the 2nd half of Sunday's game. Pack defense came out with their big boy pants on the first half. Then came out in the 3rd in just their thongs. Had to go back and put them on to close out the Sea Buzzards. Hats of to Donnie Barclay for a decent job at Tackle. Great to see Sherman getting burnt. Injuries suck. Colts are a mess. Looks like they gave up already. Best thing about that is a co-worker who is a Queenie fan picked the Colts in the Super Bowl (Super Bowl in Squonkese is actually Superb Owl)

1 pointThat works for me....just touch base with me on Friday afternoon. Here is the address for those that need that info: 4355 W 600 N Leesburg, IN 46538 And a map.....we will be plowing across the road this year!

1 pointThis is my "down & dirty" D-160 work horse. Used almost exclusively for pulling yard trailer and dragging logs etc. I have some hilly areas and before ags with turfs I was constantly spinning/slipping/getting stuck. I was simply blown away at the difference in traction after ags! They are 15"s so cant comment as to brands on 14s.

1 pointPick, thats good to hear! I love those old flathead twin Kohlers. I have a series 2 engine with almost 900 hours on it that I want to put in a project Wheel Horse if I ever get the time. Thank you for reporting back on the rebuild to let us know how its working for you! Any pics you can post?
