8 points'Tis door edge trim, from advance auto parts ! It stays on the lip of the rim when there is one. Here's one my son and I built last year, it's the first one we tried the door edge trim on the wheels

5 pointsI salvaged the 551 hood and put it on my 401, we had a hood that had already been cut off that we used on his "rat rod" I'm very happy to get to know you guys here, I joined a couple years ago, but didn't spend much time here, was on Facebook Wheel Horse Junkies mostly. But , I am finding the same fellas here that I have been familiar with right along, and know some of you here at Red Square personally, mostly have met them at the WHCC show, and a few locals , too , like TT

5 pointsThanks all, and didn't get a lot of time to spend on it today but did get a couple of parts blasted. Hope to get these and the transmission painted sometime next week and hopefully have a couple other parts ready by then too.. Tomorrow hope to dig around and see if I have whats missing of the lift setup think I may have what it needs somewhere. Also will be looking for a nice belt guard if anyone here has one they want to let go of please let me know. Thanks!

3 pointsYou would be over the limit... A bit over 1020 lbs dry, and I sure as heck wouldn't be testing the carrying capacity of a HF stand... even just 20lbs + gas
-
3 pointsDay 7, finished the brackets on the loader arms and welded also now paint this evening. Plus much more fitting and welding tomorrow.

3 pointsKoen, I wouldn't get to brave on that, at least not just yet! You have a Long ways to go before I would start shouting. You could be sitting where Jim is sitting an he would be 2-0 go figure

2 pointsThe NFL season is upon us. I created this thread in memory of my all time favorite Chicago Bear and radio analyst Dougie Buffone who passed away several months ago. Gone will be his iconic classic rants after a Bears loss on 670 The Score in Chicago. Us Packer fans would tune in to Dougie and Ed after a Bears loss instead of listening to the Packers post game show every week. Radio comedy at it's finest! Here you can crow about your team or complain about your head coach's blunders. I'll be analyzing every week in my infamous Squonkese so no one will know what I'm talking about anyway. First the predictions AFC: East Bills fans have been all giddy. Pretty Boy Brady wasn;t going to play 4 games and Sexy Rexy was the coach. I told them 'don't count your chickens too fast. Bills defwense will be good but the offense will crash. Rex will be run out of town in 4 yrs. The Jets well the best thing about the Jets are their fans. They are the best. Too bad the NFL draft got moved out of NY. The Fans reaction to their pick was the best part. Dolphins will stink as well. Their arch enemy the Bills will hope Sue stomps on Brady. Pats will win the division like they always do AFC North: I call this the Stodgy division. All these teams put me to sleep. Big question can Big Ben make it through the year without getting hurt or arrested? Decent offense Ravens go as far as Flacco takes them. If he doesn't air it out another decent offense. Cincy can't beat The little Sister's of the Poor come playoff time. Dalton needs to change his hair color. 3 way toss up for the divison The Browns who I think will be better are the Browns. Can't catch a break but I'm pullin for them AFC South: All Colts but their defense is junk Titans will struggle with Mariota but he will become a good one. Texans will compete if Watt can play QB as well as TE Jags will win a couple but they are the Browns of the south AFC West: SD will be exciting with Rivers flinging the ball all over the place They will score alot and be scored on a lot My pick for the division Denver can win the division if they can come up with enough 10 yard passing plays for Manning. His arm is shot KC has a good chance and if Jamal Charles can run enough to keep the ball out of Alex Smith's hands they have a chance The Raidahs' used to be my favorite AFC team to watch. Especially against KC back in the Kenny Stabler days. A fight every 2 minutes! They have a good young QB and receiver and 1 linebacker. But not much else. Charles Woodson a great ex Packer is there but unless he can get some viagra it getting close to the end. NFC East. Eagles have the worst fans (They booed Santa) a whacky coach with a whacky offense. Best thing is Chipper doesn't care who he has to run out of town to win. Lot's of talent on O Defense will be gassed by the 4th game. If they score 50 they will win. Cowpukes kept the wrong free agent. Lot's more talented wideouts than running backs. O line can make any runner look good but for as good as they are Romo always get's killed. Defense does enough to win. My pick for the division. Giants Coughlin should have retired after the last Super Bowl win. Eli (The Great Gazoo) wants to be the highest paid player. He throws up so many wounded ducks the hunter would have a field day. The Skins are a mess. Enough said NFC North: Once again like every year, Viking fans think they are a lock to win the Super Bowl. NOT! 9-7 is what I see. Teddy Two Gloves is an upgrade over years past but can he avoid the sophomore jinx? The Child Beater will run rampant the first few games but a year off will start to show. The Loins (I spelled it that way on purpose) Will win a lot of games with smoke and mirrors just like last year. They will score a lot of points again but Stafford will challenge Cutler and Jamis Winston for the INT crown. Defense will miss Sue and Fairly. If they avoid dancing injuries they can contend. Dominic Riola will carry on with the Personal Foul title once again. The Bears will have a tough go of it. Forte is still their Forte. Best news for Jay is Winston will throw more INT's but a couple of pick sixes are a good bet. Bears cut Tim Jennings after they found out he sold his horseshoe to the Loins! Packers will win the division without Jordy. Rodgers can make Al Ernst look like a sleek wide receiver. Lacy will pound the rock Defense is shaky. Mathews getting a hangnail injury in crunch time is no good. Secondary is young and will get torched. Watch out for UDFA Ladarius Gunter though.Crosby is Money and the Ginger's punting is bad. Good thing they don't punt a lot. McCarthy is taking hold of the entire team. His new name Das Boot! NFC South: Junk division but a 3 way shoot out. Saints are so tight against the cap it's all down hill. Panthers have lost a lot of players already. Falcons have the best kicker in the league. Matty Ice needs to rely on good football and not throwing it up for grabs. My pick Riverboat Ron and Cam Bucs have a future turnover machine in Winston. Lovie will have the same look on his face that he has in Chicago NFC West. Rams with an all out defense and no offense. Will give teams fit and may hurt a few QB's along the way Cardinals have the coolest coach but a china doll playing QB. Forty Whiners are approaching Redskin status. Kaperklink has regressed back to a college QB. New coach won't be as entertaining on the sidelines as Hairball but his post game pressers should be epic Seachickens will win the division again. Pete Carrol will bite his tongue at some point with the gum chomping and highfives. Russel wilson will hand out his bottled water to his team mates but Lynch won't touch the stuff. Richard Sherman will be the new host of Family Feud In closing an epic Dougie Rant!

2 pointsWell I decided to take the hit. I have a little weld to clean up but I am pleased with the outcome. First they bead blasted both parts then cut around the 1/4-20 bolt clips. He then cut the bottom plate back to allow room for the weld to the tank. After all the cutting both parts were çleaned. He welded the weak spots in the plate then welded the plate to the tank. Tank was tested at 30 PSI and no leaks.

2 pointsThis site is not allowing me to load any more pictures, why is that? Is there a limit to how many can be posted? But anyhow, all the "tricks" are very SIMPLE things anybody can buy anywhere. A freeze plug will shine up and make a nice center cap in a steering wheel if yours is missing, also , a freeze plug will make a nice gas cap cover , the front wheel hub grease caps will shine up and drive on snug to make a nicer than plastic grease cap, a piece of chrome bathroom drainpipe will make a beautiful exhaust pipe heat shield. A little aluminum flat stock will shine up and really look nice on a hood's grill. Just simple , ordinary things. Oh, Walmart sells those nice little headlights for $18.00 a pair. Maybe if another thread gets started it will let me post more pictures. But, the things that I do, anybody can do. I've shared a lot of these ideas on Facebook and the guys there love 'em.

2 pointsI'm using Napa Tractor Red now. Not cheap. They mix it and put it in cans. dies fast and is strong. The 704 is Valspar IH red for comparison.

2 pointsWell I couldn't help it. Project has Begun! I'm going to just start off by getting it back to a roller frame again and then it may sit for a while or I may build the rest off of there. I have a rebuilt trans sitting here for it already. And I can borrow a set of tires that were going to be used on the 59, because that project is going pretty slow. I may start blasting parts today.

2 pointsAlso looking to sell, which is from my research, a 1948 Montgomery Wards/Simplicity Hoe-Trac. Real neat piece of history. Runs pretty good. Smokes a little at start up up but clears out. Has wheel weights on the inboard of the rims and comes with the plow. I believe the tires to be original. Have literature and manual downloaded for it. Show it or use it. Looking for $150. I can also bring this to Steve's if anyone is interested in it.

2 pointsHello, fellas, Thanks for liking my stacks. This is how I make them, they are good and heavy duty and should last for years. I was welding them together, but lately I figured out how to crimp them together and they look much nicer now, like the one in the last photo. It takes me about 2 hours to build one from scratch and the materials cost me between 10 and 12 bucks, depends on where I can buy stuff. I ask 30 dollars plus shipping ( usually 8 dollars more ) when I sell them through the mail. Thanks again for your interest , much appreciated ! I don't always have them made and on hand, I work in spurts, LOL It's just a hobby, not a job, but I like helping out with your tractors whenever and as soon as I can. I make reproduction Wheel Horse cigarette lighters and hood screws for round hood tractors at times, too. Thanks for looking, I am usually on Facebook at Wheel Horse Junkies more than I'm on Red Square, its much easier to get ahold of me there.

2 pointsI was trying a Google image search, and found this: Otherwise, this is about the best picture I could find so far

1 pointWell I found yet a another project to work on. lol. Been wanting a 701 for a couple years now but just never found the right deal on one. Got this one last week. Traded a 48" mower deck for it. Its in pieces but mostly there and not in too bad of shape. Has pretty much all the hard to find parts on it which is a plus. It will probably be on hold for a while but figured I would post it for now. I want to at least finish one tractor before I start on this one but that may change. When I do start on it I will probably just build a rolling chassis and then figure out what all is missing and find them then or sooner if I'm lucky. I did get the engine running yesterday and it ran pretty good but did smoke just a little bit. It will probably be torn down to inspect and at least get a valve job and honed but whatever it needs to be right will be done. Anyways here's a couple pictures of it. Its kind of scattered all over! It had the incorrect wheels on it, but I have a good set that will be used on it.
-
1 pointLooks like a very re-buildable transmission to me. Bearings are usually stainless steel, or chrome steel and unless they are actually damaged, they will clean up nicely. If you do need bearings, most are still available with the exception of the 1533, and there are some good used ones of them available.

1 pointUsed to display what was a pretty good sized collection of farm machinery at the time 20+ish years ago at Kent. Every year for a good 8 or 10 years. Was real close friends with Charlie Doty who started what, against his will and original vision for the club, eventually became CAMA after guys like Dudley Diebold and others broke away and went the hooray, look at me route. No ill feelings, I think they did a wonderful job of working with the state and getting people to donate all sorts of resources and rare items. Seems you could find an old Rumley or some obscure tractor putting around the grounds from time-to-time, but outside of some freaky skeletonized speedex or something I don't remember there ever being guys or kids for that matter tooling around on their tractors - big or small. The point of the show was to take your time and walk around, taking it all in. Hard to check out which bolt, nut or gauge is on a rare tractor or piece of equipment if you're cruising by, harder still to have a conversation with the owner when there's someone creeping by on a snapper with their engine wound out through some rediculous chrome straight pipe. As the garden tractor guys started becoming more prevalent, it just became less about the antique machinery (CAMA ain't about 70's vintage garden tractors) and more a catch-all for enthusiasts from a more diverse world of mechanical stuff. The year I cancelled my CAMA membership and stopped bringing my collection of turn of the century and early 1900's antique machinery to display at Kent was the year after I was nearly run over by some dope on a garden tractor with a 4-cylinder Kawasaki M/C engine stuffed in it. Guess engineering wasn't his primary strength and the thing ran away with him frantically trying to figure out how to stop it. Damn good thing no one was hurt by that idiot. I do still go up to the Fall Festival every other year or so, mostly to reconnect with old guys who mentored me 25-30 years ago and look around the grounds today and say "remember when?" I grab a bite to eat, supporting my Brothers from St. Lukes Lodge in Kent, and smile. I enjoy these garden tractors, but man there's nothing like the sound of a few larger hit and miss engines running. Some so slow that just when you think they're gonna die they fire off again, or old two cylinder JD tractors putting at a slow rpm. There's just a beauty in the rythmic melody they have that you can't appreciate if there's an annoying buzz from a garden tractor motoring past. Like trying to enjoy a symphonic orchestra performing an outdoor concert next to an airport, there's just no way. Looking forward to the return of the quiet, and being able to appreciate the older garden tractors where they stand. http://www.ctamachinery.com/2012-fall-festival/exhibitorvendor-information/safety-regulations-2015-2.pdf http://www.ctamachinery.com/2012-fall-festival/exhibitorvendor-information/2015newregveh.pdf

1 pointI thought Michigan looked a lot better then last year. They could have won that game last night. They had a few high passes and the game would have been the other way...they are on their way up. You have to give it to Utah, they had their 12th man there last night...it was a good game to watch...even if you are a Michigan fan. Minnesota ended up playing the 2nd rated team in the country pretty tough. I think Minnesota is for real...some are picking them to win the West Conference. If you watched both games a little last night, you know they both had a Bowl Game atmosphere...excellent for the 1st game of the year.
-
1 pointI love the 701 tractor. Looks like you're making great progress so far Jake. I can't wait to see more. Please keep the pics coming and thanks for sharing.
-
1 pointThe man I have been talking to said that a tig is what he will use. He did a test on the bottom plate over a thin spot and said he thinks it will weld OK.
-
1 pointJake: That 701 is going to be one of your favorites when you get it done -believe me! Looking forward to this redo !
-
1 pointThanks yes all rattle cans, lots of them! in the picture I hadn't finished painting the other wheels, all done now though, the same colour.

1 pointSounds like you you guys were handed some lemons. It's kind of funny how different people - and perhaps different regions - view things differently. Until I went to my first WH show in 2000 I had never been to a tractor show where guys were just cruising around. And I used to go to a LOT of them. There was always the occasional tractor moving from one activity to another, but other than the parade, plowing, or pulling they all just sat there stationary. Guys meandered and talked. Lots of old timers sat in lawnchairs next to their machines. Nobody had a tent or canopy. When I saw constant driving around at biglerville it struck me as odd. It was just implied that the shows in my part of illinois were for walking. I've seen one backflip and a lot of close calls at the big show. One young kid ran over my right foot on a suburban. Seems like a matter of time... I have more fun walking anyway. But I'm a talker, so... Make lemonade, steve

1 pointITS IT AN ILLUSION ?????? DO I SEE A VERY SHINEY EDGE ON THE PANZER RIMS???? THAT MACHINE JUST LOOKS AMAZING !!!!

1 pointAs far as Ag's on the front. Many tires will have embossed on the sidewall the direction they should go.These Carlisle Tru Powers have an arrow and you can see they want them on normally for traction end (Rear) and reversed for rolling (Front) People keep asking me why I have the Ag's reversed on the front and this is why. They work rather well too!
-
1 pointJust have a few minor things left to do and then onto the 42" SD deck. A few of the changes I made to simplify things include eliminating the rubber motor mounts and the separate brake pedal. The clutch pedal is also the brake like the older models are set up. I noticed that the lift handle on my C is too far back and sticks out so far that it rubs against my leg and forces me to hold my leg at an unconformable angle. I would really like to swap out the steering tower for the simpler and narrower older style like my 857 has. I think it looks better too. Sometimes engineers should leave well enough alone.
-
1 pointThe 1st and 2nd pick was the day I got it home. I could not even wheel this tractor because the rear was frozen. The second set is when I was selling it this spring.
-
1 pointI really like the look of through the hood on the Panzer.
-
1 pointThanks, Dennis , that is a nice compliment, much appreciated ! I try not to be hoggish when I sell something, because I hate to spend a dam fortune on that kind of stuff myself, lol ! I always wanted to find a 1 inch muffler somewhere like these for a Kohler , and no luck, so I thought I'd see if I could cobble up something myself, the first ones looked like hell, but gradually they improved once I got the hang of it. If I get flooded with orders, it will take a couple weeks, sorry 'bout that, and I hate making people wait for their stuff, but we all have to take care of our other day to day duties, too.

1 pointGuess who got 2 year supporter title! as stated, pictures. As I got it... Sooo, after rolling it in it had progressed to this stage... Also may be able to view the crack in my console for the steering support... Also that steering tube seems squeaky and rather unattached? any fixes or advice? Ill get the photos of sandblast and other assorted photos up here as soon as progress continues.

1 pointMy visit to see my grandchildren paid off. I got to spend an afternoon at Chucky Cheese with 4 precious children. One of which I have only seen in pictures for 6. years. I am a very happy grandpa. I also got almost all the transmission parts I needed. I have one gear oñ the way from a RS member. I also got a new shifter. I have new bearings and gasket ordered as well as shifter retaing bolt. And I also have a starter gen kit I received last week. I found a guy through a friend that is removing the broken screws frim the gas tank and will repair the bottom plate and bead blast it. I should be able to pick it up next week.
