9 pointsLast night was a busy night out in the shop with some nice heat and humidity added in the mix. First and foremost, I feel very lucky to have been so fortunate to have a place to hang out. The problem was it never was exactly right and I was cramped for space. The barn was meant for the hobby, for my two kids to hang out, and place where the family could entertain. Last night I was able to add some more decorations and get one step closer to my ultimate goal. My wife has been out multiple times and it is becoming a place where my kids like to hang out as well. I have been extremely blessed with such a great place to utilize. I am hoping that it will continue to be an area that we receive so many benefits from with our family and our tractor friends. As I sat down last night exhausted from moving things around, I snapped a few photos while trying to take it all in. I hope you enjoy them and understand that by no means am I trying to brag, but am very thankful for what gifts I have received. I always enjoy sharing with those that have similar interests.

5 pointsBob, great minds really do think alike! I did the exact same thing to my Suburban and could not have been more pleased with it. The bed liner holds up as you would expect and should give the old girl another 50 years of good service.

4 pointsIt's a push in grommet. It is probably cracked and hard. New ones are cheap. Drain the tank, pull out the old one with a tug and a twist. When installing the new one, i always lubricate it with a touch of grease.

3 pointsAnother alternative would be "Plasti Dip". It is made for coating tool handles so you know it is tough and it comes in colors in the event you want to be different. I used it on the under side of a mower deck a few years back and it has held up well.

3 pointsSounds like you caught the bug! I didn't have it till I fell into RS, quite by accident, and caught it from these clowns here........ I have had WH's for years and never knew there was a secret clan for others that have them too. I just always thought they were just "another" brand of tractor .... who woulda thunk they actually have rouels where they all get together and party and drool over other's tractors..... new 11th commandment, thou shall not covet thy neighbors Wheel Horse.... Wow kinda right up my alley......I even hear tell of gruesome tales of a party in PA somewhere that is the Sturgis of Wheel Horses. (I heard that at noon every day they all have to face South Bend Indiana and pray??) Oh lord what kind of cult did I get myself into. I cannot confirm nor deny if the going ons there are similar to Sturgis but some year I am gonna find out.

3 pointsA lot of good input here. Thanks everyone. The previous owner of my 401 used it in parades. He almost fell over after I bought it and said I was putting it to work. After getting it I found it to nice to use other than pull trailers around the yard. So my search began for another and now another. I havnt had to much time to search this site but I'm sure there are some wheel horse events out there I should come see. I initially found this forum to find a model of my 401 so I could find a price and put on Craigslist. Well after posting it I took it off. This history is fascinating and a good thing there is red square to help out with its members.

2 pointsThese two will be sold at tomorrows auction. Any interest or guesses on value? The 1955 Bantam in JD paint runs and has good straight tin. The blower looks good but the recoil starter has been removed, so I can't start it. The Tecumseh looks good. It's about 14" wide.

2 pointsHi I'm Tim. I purchased my c105 about two years ago as a non runner, eBay - I paid £200 for the tractor, a very tired 36 inch deck and a nice little trailer and a really nice rotivator. The deck was quite out of shape although un-mollested without any repairs on it. Unfortunately un-salvageable though, it must of taken a hell of a strike at some stage. The tractor was in good shape overall, the plastic rear fender was split but the machine had clearly been garaged and we'll looked after all its life, one owner from new before me... A little carb cleaning, a new battery, fresh fuel and a squirt of cold start soon had it firing. The engine has clearly done many hours work and knocks a little, quite smokey until really hot too but it's fine really. I soon purchased a B series machine as a doner for its fender and cutting deck. Both of which were easily adapted to fit. I'll soon be selling what's left of the B series... My C105 has never use of the low ratio gears, aparantly they went in the 90s according to the guy I bought it from, I guess that explains the good condition of the rotivator then! In spring this year I started her up and the gearbox immediately seized..... uh ho I thought. I opened up the transmission on the workbench and found many bits of the low ratio cog everywhere. Cleaned it all out and put it back together and she lives on..... whines a little but functional. I will be fully refurbing the machine in time but I want a good transmission first as I'd like to use that rotivator ( 1st in high is too fast for it). I have already found this forum invaluable so thought it was time to contribute. ..

2 pointsI picked up this steering wheel for my Suburban at the big show. It was decent but did need a little work. I didn’t take any before shots but you all know what happens to these old wheels. After patching deep gouges, cracks, etc. smooth things up and do any reshaping if needed. Clean up the spokes, prime and paint. Mask the finished spokes stopping about 1/16” short of where the plastic coating on the rim started. I used Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating in a spray can. They make two bed coatings. The blue can that I used and the Bed Armor in the black can. The Bed Armor might be a bit better for a truck bed but I really don’t think it’s best for this application. I held the wheel with a ¾” wood dowel and had several coats on in just a few minutes. Even in this Florida humidity you could actually see each coat dry literally in seconds. I applied enough to get the finish I liked and to blend it into the painted spokes. I love the texture and feel of it and it should be durable.

2 pointsGlad you got it. Chances are the carburetor just needs a good cleaning and a new needle and seat. You can pick up a kit on Ebay.

2 pointsNow I know you're gonna think this is boring, but this was a project. First, it is a little ornamental piece, the diamond plate filling the hitch that is ... so I couldn't justify cutting a 3 foot wide piece of aluminum for this little job, so I had to cut it out of scraps. Yea, not as easy as it sounds, to have the two pieces match up and fill the space. Then I had to re-route the wiring, drilling and mounting retainers in the frame, etc. It's hot out here, and my heart doesn't like this crap. So there, it's done, it's minor and cheesy but I'm proud I accomplished it.

2 pointsday 5---------------- bracket for under tractor up and almost completed welding to the frame, lots of brackets cut and cleaned up. and I might have to build a bucket, mine is bent and broke in every corner. And yes I made it so I can take the 60 in. deck off or on by removing 8 bolts.

2 pointsHere is an option to fix that axle. The Wheel Horse RJ, Suburban and the first 3 speed uni-drives had 1/4" roll pins in their axles that held on the axle gears. You could drill a 1/4" hole and get a roll pin for your 1 1/8" axle.

2 pointsThank you for the response. I forgot I do have a broken trans out of the the JD 160 sitting out in the shed. Not the exact model but close enough so I know what I'm working with. Took a good look at it and I think I'll be safe going a size bigger and out to 1.5 inches without going through the case wall. Pulled the brake arm but it's at a 45 deg. angle from what I need. I did manage to finally source a new brake arm for $15 and that will work for me.

2 pointsI have not been inside a Peerless transmission...yet, but from the number of 3 piece uni-drives that I have been in, the space does very from one hole to the next, and from little to no room for a longer bolt. I would take a good look at your schematic, determine what if any sliding gears or other moving parts are close enough to interfere...take an awl or narrow screw driver...stick it in there and see if it hits anything. The coil thingy may just work for you. BTW...they make different lengths of those coils. Whatever you try, when you are done, put the rear end on blocks and turn the input shaft by hand in all gears.

2 pointsMy dad's Deere has the "washout" port, and I am fairly certain this was a clever design by someone to make you THINK you are doing good, but really just guaranteeing that you have to buy a new deck sooner. Complete junk. I use a set of the mechanic ramps to drive the front of the tractor up on and spray it out good with a hose or pressure washer. 2 pointsOn my 520, there is a bundle of wires that were installed too tight (from the factory I think!) that were being cut right were the two cover plates meet at the base of the dash tower, so when I was fiddling with the drive lever the tower would flex making them touch things they werent supposed to.

2 pointsIt's been a while, and I could be mistaken, but I think the oil pans are different from k90 to k91. I think the k91 became a common bolt pattern with other smaller Kohler blocks. As to weather or not to disassemble them all, I wouldn't. They are all matched parts now, meaning they have all worn evenly, or unevenly, together. Also don't see the need take them all apart if you only really need one parts engine. Maybe if the first one doesn't have what you need, do the second. They'd be worth more together than apart, especially if they are just missing one or two parts each here or there. Good luck either way.

2 pointsHere's the stuff. Unfortunately that's an internet picture. I tossed the can I bought. I always clean the nozzles on rattle cans doing the invert thing and pulling the nozzle off to really clean it. Ummmm....don't do that with this stuff. It screws it up and there was a lot left in the can Any body filler should be fine. I used Bondo Plastic Metal because I had it. I don't think undercoating would work well because it never really gets hard. I used 180 grit to sand it which is too course for paint but worked well in this situation. It's thick enough to completely hide the sanding marks. I think it will hold up quite well but time will tell. Of course it's not 'original' but I like the grippy feel.

2 pointsI worked on the 5xi project for 3 years. The average person doesn't realize how many man hours and money go into the development of some products. They see the end result and judge it from there. Another person helped me on the 5xi build. I think the demise of the 5xi was the price. If you could afford over $10,000.00 for a garden tractor with a deck you would probably hire someone to mow your yard. There were 4 wheel drives out there that were better at the use of attachments. There were about 7 designers, a head engineer in charge of the project, an engineer working on the power for the tractor, an engineer from Wheel Horse was brought out of retirement to design the transmission, and the 2 of us building the prototypes - all who were dedicated to the project for the 3 years. There were 2 people from test dept, an electrical engineer, the toro stylist designing the look of the tractor, someone doing the finitite analysis insuring it was structurally sound and the marketing team that was driving the build of the 5xi. The cost of development along with the costs for production - Tooling for all the stamped steel and plastic parts and setting up the lines for production were a lot to recover. A differential lock was designed but never made it even into the prototype.

I still have 2 702's for sale.... $600 for the one with the deck and $500 for the one without. I also have a plow I could include.... Wheel weights do not go with the first one. I am also looking for a suburban or RJ seat spring. I swear I sold or gave away at least two at the big show this year...

1 pointUp date on the motor....Valve guides are wayyyy out of spec so gotta start looking for valves with oversize stems. Don't want it to be a smoker. This is gonna be fun....found some guy on fleabay with them but was askin some serious coin for them. Tappets are also hollowed out on top so will need those. Also means a trip to machine shop for reaming and seat work.

1 pointI think I will get one. I'll take a look today and figure out how/where I can mount it. Ay 3" x 1.5", it isn't all that tiny though. Rick_in_CT had one on the right side angled portion of the dash mounted sideways. You might find the photo in a thread.

1 pointThat may not be bird droppings on that horse. Being where a mail box would be located, it is probably beet juice, salt, lime or something else that was plowed on it during the winters. Regardless, it is a great find and a good old-fashioned sand storm would make her the Bell of the Ball.

1 pointI will do my best! Michael Biser @racinfool40 helped me out with it a while back. First off, the early tractors 1967 and earlier with 8hp or less had 2" engine pulley and 4" transmission pulley. Later tractors have a larger engine pulley and thus a larger transmission pulley (6.25"). 8 Speeds were only used with the small pulley for one year (1967). 4 speed transmissions have 3/4" input axle shaft. 8 speeds have 5/8" input axle shaft. So the pulley that is necessary for an 8 speed conversion on any early tractors was only available on 1967 tractors, but (i THINK) if you found the right pulley you could use any newer 8 speed. So, really, as far as I know the only thing that was truly beneficial was that this transmission came with the right size pulley. When I put the rest of the 867 tractor up for sale for parts I had more than 10 people contact me about the pulley.

1 pointYou do have a lot of cleaning to do, but it is a rather complete '56 or '55 RJ 35, it even has the optional brakes and recoil starter. If you have not read up on the use of an"E Tank" it would be a good idea to do so, you are going to need one. PS NAPA has the gallon size PB Blaster on sale for $23.99

1 pointI took the truck to a few area exhaust shops to get a few estimates on a dual exhaust system... The last time I had custom duals put on it set me back 350 bucks. That was quite a while back though. I took it to one shop and they were giving me the run around, he really didn't want to give me an estimate because he didn't know how long it would take. The second shop the owner looked out his office window to peek at the truck and told me 1400.00. No thanks. On my way home from work i stopped at one last shop and he told me 500 if I supply the mufflers. I told him they were already in the bed of the truck and if he could do it right away he had a deal. I couldn't stand to drive it another mile with it sounding the way it did...I've also since added a trailer hitch and hauled my first small load of wood...

1 pointJust looked at a brochure for a 1969 Charger V7 (1-7741). The Toro database for 1969, and 1970 (changed to V8) shows it as a 5074 transmission. The brochure information shows it as a hydrostatic transmission with a limited slip differential. Could the problem be in the differential?

1 pointToro part number #86725. It will include two black dash plates already cut out. It will also include 5 new decals which them alone can be expensive. Plus it will have all of the dial height hardware. Ib paid around $60 for it several years ago and never used it! Sold it on Ebay! You may have to go through Toro.
