This is still in the R & D stage so don't get too excited . Actually this happened to a friend of mine on another forum & he's NEVER going to live it down !

4 pointsDon, I added a chute rotator to my Kubota blower using a power window motor. These motors work well because the don't burn up when you get to the end of rotation in either direction. Consider that you can hold your cars power window button with the window all the way up or down with no ill effect. I also have a linear actuator for the chute deflector. I made the control box with two rocker switches. The horizontal switch is the chute rotator, vertical is the chute deflector. Last winter was my first with the chute rotator and it worked great. I had a linear actuator on my wheel horse for a number of years and never had a problem with it, so I put one on the Kubota. Let me know if you need any more detail. 3 pointsLast weekend I thought it was time to do another upgrade to the trusty old 312-8 I bought new in 1991. I've already upgraded the seat with a nice highback seat from NT, upgraded the rear wheels and tires with ones froom a 520 Hydro, installed cast iron wheel weights on the rear with a pair of weights from my Grandfathers 1950's Simplicity two wheeled walk behind tractor, upgraded the original front 6 inch wheel and tire set with 8 inchers and new tires with some shiney wheel covers, and JayInNC made a nice stainless steel muffler bling do dad to dress up the factory exhaust system. Next on the list was an engine upgrade, so last weekend I took on that project. One of the Horses in the herd is a 1993 314Hydro with 540 hours on the clock. I don't really use it much due to the fact I'm more of a gear drive Wheel Horse guy. My 312 had 550 hours on its clock so i thought since the 314 had 10 less hours at 540, and a 14hp engine (2hp more than the 12hp engine on the 312) the choice was easy, remove both Kohler Magnums, and replace the 12hp engine with the 14hp engine. The 14hp Kohlers are a little smoother running than their bigger 16hp brothers, yet have the extra working torque power over the smaller 12hp Magnums. The swap was very easy, kind of a no brainer actually. The only extra thing I had to do extra was swap pulleys on the crankshafts. The hydro pulley is a larger diameter than the gear drive pulley so the swap was made, and a new Toro Wheel Horse drive belt was installed on the smaller gear drive pulley from the 12hp engine that now rested on the 14hp crankshaft. So anyway thats it in a nutshell. I hope you enjoyed reading about the upgrades, and hopefully something I've done will appeal to someone here who will then do the same to their favorite tractor.

3 pointsFriday I had my seven week check-up following spinal surgery and the doctor told me (in the presence of my wife) that I should be able to start doing anything that I normally did prior to the operation. Sooooo, this morning I got a couple hours of quality seat time mowing the lawn. Came back in the house singing " Back in the saddle again", the wife said I don't sing as well as Gene Autry but she was glad to see me so happy. I start Physical Therapy Monday and should be able to get back out in the barn to give the rest of the herd a little attention very soon.

3 pointsI have finally figured out what the big deal is with our Wheel Horse tractors, and why we can't get enough seat time. They are intoxicating... Seriously, the exhaust that they produce is strategically placed right in our faces by the engineers... they all seem to exhaust so the perfect fresh air/exhaust mixture gets to our nostrils at exactly the right moment--for maximum effect. We are literally high on our Horses! That's my theory anyway.

2 pointsThis horse was found upside down in a dumpster by my friend(tunaslayet). He brought the oil-covered 312-8 to my house with a crushed hood, broken steering wheel, and crushed center console. The hour meter read around 1000 hours, but the engine ran with little effort and the transmission shifted smoothly. I quickly began disassembling the horse and fixing/replacing any damaged parts. Sourcing a steering wheel proved to be a challenge, so i retrofitted a boat steering wheel which came out great and was very inexpensive. I cleaned up and repainted the entire tractor and freshened it up with throwback redo-your-horse stickers and fresh turfsavers. I initially began to set this up as the mower that it once was, but shifted my focus to creating a front end loader after my friends father hooked me up with a great selection of hydraulic equipment in exchange for a custom cabinet. I quickly found a loader on craigslist in Maine. The loader was properly sized, in great shape, missing most of the hydraulic components, and well built from PF engineering plans. I quickly picked up the required steel and began fabricating. Here is the 312-8 the day I got it. The loader on the day I bought it in ME. It is nested with a Kwikway that my friend (tunaslayet) purchased on the same day. We both sourced loaders in ME and took the road trip from Southeastern MA to pick them up. Very exciting weekend. Initial mock up of the loader on the 312. I sacrificed the attach-a-matic and welded it directly to the frame. I decided to modify the support trusses to allow for better PTO clearance and maintainability. I added a slight bend and welded a support gusset to add strength. The PTO and belts are completely serviceable without removing any components from the loader. The back of the frame is supported by 3/8-16 carriage bolts around the rear axle. The weight box is small, but designed to tightly hold a 220lbs stack of exercise cable weights. The weight box alone adds another 40lbs. Wheel weights will soon be added. Here are all of the loader parts painted and ready for assembly. Upgraded to a 520 swept forward front axle with gear reduction steering (Thanks Dennis!). I used trailer hubs instead of the 520 rims. After countless hours of wire-wheeling, grinding, welding, painting, and day-dreaming, my re-rehabilitated 312 is ready to do work for me. I just had to lift something for fun, so i threw my troybilt commercial walk behind mower in the bucket and took it for a ride. The loader lifted the mower with no effort at all.. I may try to lift my 416-8 for fun. Thanks everyone for the help. -Justin

2 pointsI humbly disagree that it's the exhaust. It's seat time on a strong stallion, the color red, getting work done, the envy of your neighbors, a four season machine, the ability to tackle any task with ease and the sense of accomplishment at anytime. The exhaust is just fuel for the soul.

2 pointsI'll add another one as a seller - put an add in to sell a car , girl calls ask about the details etc we go over that .....then we switch gears to - she never got along with her mother , brother just lost his job, child just flunked a test at school , they cut my hours at work , my boyfriend left last week haven't seen him since, I think he's with my best friend - had a cold last week - I'll need to find a ride - I had a car but since boyfriend left couldn't afford it the bank took it - I only have 200 dollars will you take that - I can make payments and eat supper at Aunt Jane's place for awhile ...this crap was one long sentence that went on and on about every single solitary problem this girl had for 10 years with every person she ever came in contact with .......good grief ....literally couldn't get a word in for 10 15 minutes ....as a person I don't like conflict and I don't like being rude, so the nicest way I knew how told her I'm sorry you're having problems but if you don't have the money I can't help you ..... This girl needed a counselor more than a car. Good lord .

In 1968 os beat Michigan 50-14 os won the national championship they had an outstanding team, Everyone thought they would win it the next year in 1969 because that team was loaded same as this year. In 1969 Michigan hired a new coach his name was Bo Shembachler against all odds Michigan beat them 24-12. That started the 10 year war, with Michigan taking the best of that series. (Will history repeat itself? I doubt it.) At some point in time many teams has its troubles with management hiring a new coach. Ask os fans when they hired John Cooper. Nd when they hired Bob Davie, George "O" Liar, Tyrone Loosingham, Kent Bear, and Charlie I want another donut Weiss. Our past two coaches were way less than Stellar for sure. That's why Michigan did what they did, They Gave Jim Harbaugh an open checkbook, And he hired a dream team staff. when he took over they were rated #85 in recruiting and now after 7 months are #7. #2 in the Big 10 with os being #1 Nationally which is to be expected after the year they have had. That's why Nike signed the biggest contract ever in history with Michigan, And just about all the tickets this year are sold out. Jim Harbaugh does not sleep, He is a tyrant just like BO, and one of his disciple's. He has EVERYONE behind him and on board from the Regents, President, AD, Alumni, Students, Coaches, Players and Fans and the News Media. That never happened with the last two coaches FAR FROM IT! <<< When that happens failure is going to happen which it did it was doomed from the get go. I thought Brady would do a better job than he did, I WAS WRONG. But then again I didn't know about all the turmoil that was within the program and the lack of everyone not being on board, all that came out after his firing. Unlike most coaches Jim Harbaugh has won on every level, HS player, College player and was #3 in Heisman voting! Pro Career player 14 years, College Coach, Pro Coach. Jim Harbaugh Is a winner, He is totally devoted and probably works harder than any coach out there he is relentless, he doesn't take vacations, get sick nor believe in major holiday's he is a JACK HAMMER. 2 pointsSort of related. I have one of those Thermos Grill to Go convertible grills for sale. It's on CL and I have it out front of my house with a sign on it. A guy stops today and doesn't even come to the door. He and his daughter proceed to take the grill apart without even asking if it was ok. They wanted to see how it folded up. I had a window A/C unit out front a couple of years ago. Big For Sale sign on it. I heard a car pull up. By the time I got outside they had it in their trunk and were driving away. They even took the sign!

2 pointsThe Tecumseh and Kohler engines both have a mechanical compression release built into them to make them easy to crank over, the down side is that this also results in lower vacuum on the intake stroke. Since our carburetors require a great deal of air flow through the venturi to draw fuel from the float bowl into the compression chamber the reduced air flow requires a little human intervention, we need to pull the choke. I you are running a little on the rich side you may not need to.

1 pointI didn't think this topic would have such staying power. I have a new one to share. I call this Craigslist Nightmare II... So, last night I see a brand new post on CL. It was less than an hour old. It was for a sweet little C-125 Automatic, very clean, low hours. I did not hesitate to contact the seller immediately. The post had the dreaded "no text / no email" request, so I called and left a message. This morning, there still was no reply, so I called again... no reply... I called at lunchtime... no reply... I called at 2pm and 5pm... nothing. I don't get this, and it has happened to me several times. If you leave specific instructions to CALL, then ANSWER your damn phone, or at least respond to any messages regarding the sale of your item. WOW. I have a trailer, I have cash, you have a tractor to sell... what is the problem? I just checked CL. The post is still up, nobody has bought the tractor. And if you sold it, take down the post instead of just ignoring every call coming it. C'MON... I'm jumping up and down with cash in my hand----------> it's like trying to buy something from a brick wall. This seems to happen a lot on CL. At least this weekend I didn't have to deal with a seller that couldn't answer his door because he was in a straightjacket.

1 pointAbsolutely correct, and disproving the theory that you need to "polarize" a regulator. What happens on the second attempt is the battery current "sparks" thru the now connected field coil and polarizes the iron field shoes inside the generator into correctly aligned magnets, allowing the armature to cut thru the magnetic field and generate charge current. And as Squonk says, that s just the beginning of his problems.

1 pointHe needs to change out that battery, replace those cables and get that "The Prince of Darkness" regulator out of there. He knows how to get the spark out because he probably has to do it almost every time the tractor gets used.

1 pointPulley is a reproduction from Joe Papke, I will pm you his contact info. He also carrys reproduction belt guards as well. And the steering wheels are available from Bill Jenkins but I don't have his contact info, maybe someone here does? Also hood is welded together, and I added a picture of the inside of the gear case form when I went through the rear in this one last winter.

1 pointHere are some pictures for you, this one is a late 55, but the same tractor besides the frame. If you need any more let me know. Also that steering link should be straight besides the bends on the ends, but one end is bent at a different angle than the other so it lines up with the steering shaft block. drive system....you can see the brass disk on the engine pulley, when you pull the speed selector arm all the way back it pulls the veri drive pulley onto the brass disk which reverses the direction of the belt. rear hitch you are missing, there are 2 different style hitches they used, this is the earlier style. Both are correct for your tractor I've seen both used. The steering wheel it should have, you can also see the throttle control below it and correct gas tank, however these straps aren't original but work just fine
