4 pointsMan, did it rain last night. Hoping for a reasonable day today. Weather looks like it's going to cooperate until this evening. Probably going to start another downpour just as the "cruisin' to the oldies" gets started. Then, the rain starts again after midnight, and is expected to continue very heavy all day Saturday. 2" over 8 hours is forecasted. I think today (Friday) is going to be the best day. I've got lots of pictures, but can't upload them until I get back home. This is a shot from the poor man's camping area, as opposed to the shot from Karl, taken in the "uptown" camping area.

1 pointHello All, i recently picke up a very nice 520 XI with a power glow bagger. The unit has 276 hours on it. It runs and operates great although I haven't really used the bagger enough to know if I like it. I will give it a try for leaf cleanup. Well here's the pics! Take care, Mike

1 pointI wouldn't pay the $200 for a new coil so I went to some local small engine repair shops and looked through their used stuff. One person had a 5 gallon bucket of coils and said I can look for one in it. Out of all the coils I found one that had the right spacing and the holes looked large enough for the bolts to go through. After checking it with a meter I took it home and tried it on the engine. I couldn't adjust it to the right gap so I drilled the holes a small bit larger and had .008" gap. Put on a new spark plug cable and fired it up. Just got done mowing the upper yard and it works great. $22.38 for the coil and plug wire.

1 pointBefore you go any farther with it, pull the weights off and see if the end of the axle is flush with the outside edge of the hub. Looking at the pic above the one with the extended axle, both hubs are slid clear in against the housings which they shouldn't be. I suspect the hub is about to come off the axle since you said it still turns opposite as the other side even out that far. It should be out of the differential if it is out that far.

1 pointI had an unwanted vibration in my 42" sd deck still after installing a new set of blades that I checked and balanced also. I noticed while installing them that the spindle shaft where the blades sits was really worn so the blade could move in all directions at least 1/32 of an inch probably more. I held them as centered as possible and tightened them up but once I got it going it still vibrated quite bad. So I started thinking of a way to hold that blade dead centered while tightening. I ended up deciding to try Teflon tape I had laying around and it ended up working like a charm. I wrapped each spindle just in the worn area until I built it up to be inline with the threads. I slipped the blades on and each one centered perfectly!! Even tried to wiggle and move each one around and they were staying put really well. Tightened everything up and it seemed to make a nice improvement in the vibrations. I have came across this issue on just about every deck ive owned so im guessing its pretty common. I thought this neat little trick was really easy and worth sharing. If anyone else has this issue give this a shot and let me know if it was as successful as it was for me and also if anyone has done anything else to accomplish this same thing I would like to hear about that as well.

1 pointMartinArcher, The Cylinder Head: I have a customer with two sand blasters. One is glass bead and the other is walnut shells. The top side only is blasted with glass bead, then "polished" with walnut shells. I duct taped the entire bottom of the head (several layers), and leave an old plug tightly screwed into the head. My engine blocks are always painted with high temp automotive engine paint, and the shrouds are done in whatever paint I use on the tractor. The Tank: VHT Vinyl Dye - Chevy Red. Same goes for the Fuel Cap, but in VHT Vinyl Dye - Gloss Jet Black. Just remove the breather parts before you spray the cap, and ream the cap breather hole to 1/16" after it dries. Then reinstall the breather parts. If you have a black tank, which was common, use the VHT Gloss Jet Black on it. The Muffler: Had one in good shape, lightly sand blasted to remove surface rust, then sprayed with 1200 degree Rust-Oleum High Heat spray paint in silver. You could use black as well, but silver is what I had sitting on the shelf (this is a refresh, right?). Be careful blasting old mufflers. The metal could be thin in spots and you can blast right through if you're not careful.

1 pointNOS or not, it's still 43 years old. In the throw-away society we live in today I don't think most folks see and/or appreciate quality. They look at the shiny toys at Lowes or Home Depot with more horsepower under the hood and aren't willing to pay more for a 43 year old machine then what they can buy a brand new one for. All of us here on this forum know better but let's face it, we're a minority in the big picture. We all know that this tractor will outlast numerous big box lawnmowers but trying to convince somebody who doesn't understand is quite a task.
