Well, as KenB mentioned in his recent thread, I now have custody of C195. I picked up a deck from Stevebo the same day. Thanks to Ken and Steve for transferring the deck to Ken's in advance of me picking it up. So far I love this thing. The center blade on the deck broke a socket but I am tenacious and I finally got the blades off and sharpened. As I write this, I am waiting for the 92 inch belt that my wife is picking up for me. Should have this horse grazing at full efficiency by end of the day. I have wanted a C195 since seeing Buckranchers in person at the Big show last year. But my slush fund and few opportunities never quite lined up. The Big Show this year may have to pay the price. Still to be determined, I started with a C161 a couple years ago. Got it running well enough to mow and then I started collecting GT14's. I now have all but a parts cow GT14 running but constantly having to wrench on the C161 which is my worker while I start trying bring the GT14's back to respectability was getting on my nerves. Started looking for a low hour machine for reasonable amount when I ran across Ken's. I had inquired on a couple nice low hour machines but evidently lost out to local customers. Definitely worked out for me! I have attached a couple pics. I live in Adirondacks and the soil is very sandy. The lawn is in its second year. Should be lush and full by next year. The big deck will make the regular 2-3 hours yard maintenance much more efficient!

Custom leather seats, DVD with Navigation, 40 channel CB radio, 6 cup holders,4 power outlets, custom floor mats, trailer package with gold hitch. Put on special alloy wheels and off road Michelin’s. My wife put a small scratch on the driver’s door. The husband started tearing up. Sergeant: - Don't worry Sir…………..We'll find your truck. .

I picked up a 312-H with a blower and a 42inch deck for $550. The guy i bought it off of has 2 1997 520's mint, a 418-8 and a brand new 60 inch deck and 2 tall shoot blowers new too! he is not on red square though.

Hey guys! I'm new to the board and thought I would share my project. Growing up my dad bought a 1976 B-100 that I learned to mow on when I was 6 years old. It was the first motorized anything I ever drove. Over the years I spend a serious amount of time on that tractor and learned everything from how to operate a clutch to back up a trailer. Fast forward 25 years....dad stopped mowing with the B-100 because the engine had lost compression and power. It got put in the corner of the barn for 5 years and he bought a used 92' Horse. Two weeks ago, a good friend bought a zero turn and had a 96' Horse that was spotless. He asked my dad if he wanted to buy it and he pulled the trigger. Having no room in the barn for the B-100 he asked me if I wanted it. Heck yeah! I swung by that week with the trailer and brought it home. I thought I would start with an engine rebuild and mow with it but as I started to tear into it things got out of hand. I decided to do a full show quality rebuild and am currently finishing up the paint work. I used PPG epoxy primer and Urethane top coat. I am currently doing body work on the sheet metal to fix a couple dings that were probably from me or my brother growing up. Last night I pulled the K241 apart and am dropping the block and crank at the machine shop tommorow morning. Turns out the top piston ring was cracked and had a loose piece floating. I expected to find a piston with "STD" on the top but after cleaning up the top it has a single "1" stamped in the top. Not sure if this is a standard bore or a 0.010 over? I guess I'll find out after it gets to the machine shop. Here's some pics of the progress!! Back form the media blaster....time to smooth out the metal. I am very happy to see this machine being used. While I loved it while I had it I just did not use it. If i did not pick up the C195 (1984) with 3 point and rear PTO from Jordan at the show last year I would have kept it. Use it well and keep it clean !!

I'm in trouble now. In the past Mrs. Sailor has only driven the 518xi. After my accident the other day, the C-105 was hitched to the trailer and stayed in the middle of the driveway. We came back today from the doctor for my pre-surgery physical and asked her if she wanted to move them so that we could finally get her car into the garage. A small tree limb fell right behind her car with yesterday's storm. She now knows how to: put on the choke and pull it off by handuse the clutchshift between Hi-Lo Rangeshift between gearsuncouple the trailerput the jack downI stand a chance of losing two tractors and a trailer now!!!

Congrats on your new Super C... you could never go wrong with a KenB/Stevebo deal.

I am glad it went to a deserving members home. I thought on it long and hard myself, when I saw bryans to, funny you should mention that. But, just putting my home up for sale and loosing my man cave I knew I couldnt get it. Well, I really wasn't planning on another boat project! The boat is a 1955 Dunphy mahogany ply with its original 1955 Johnson and original trailer. It is almost 13 ft. long. Being a wood boat I really doubt there are many of these left out there and most buyers opted for the 14 ft. model. The boat was a barn find by my brother and he just HAD to tell me about it. I purchased the boat from the original owners son. (His father is still living at 87 but now lives in New Hampshire) The boat was last used in 1977. I got it home safely this past Saturday and immediately started working on it. I'm up in the air about what color to paint the bottom. The bottom color on it is the original factory color, Dunphy painted all the bottoms of their boats this color. I really don't mind the bottom color, Mr. original himself Stevebo says, red bottom and red interior cushions. I was thinking factory color on bottom and maybe hunter green cushions or a medium blue? maybe even red cushions? I promised the previous owners pictures when done and they can even go out for a boat ride with it. They were pretty excited too hear that. Since it is rainy today, when I got home from work I pulled the carb to clean it and pulled the flywheel to have a look at the ignition. Carb was spotless clean and after cleaning and checking the gap on the points I had good spark. I put it all back together and decided to try starting it. Within a few pulls she was off and running. Nice to see that after 38 yrs. being idle this is still a great motor. I will now order new maintenance parts for it.. You can tell the old timer really took care of his stuff, the paint and decals on the motor are near perfect, I won't do doing anything in that area other than keeping it clean and waxed.

Since owning my 520 for about a year now with zero issues, I decided to pull the engine to clean it up, adjust the valves and change the oil. So I get the engine out and set it on a bucket. No problems so far. Pull the air cleaner housing and engine tins. Piece of cake. This thing is WAY OVERDUE for a good cleaning. The top of the engine and valve covers are just full of crud. On to the exhaust bolts, the front two come out with no problems. I move the crud from around the rear two bolts, but there is only one bolt. I think to myself, that's weird. On to the intake. Loosey 4 bolts, no problem. Then I pulled the intake manifold and took a look at the intake valve area on the rear and low and behold, a crusty and charred exhaust bolt! The sight of this immediately flashed back memories from 25 years ago.... FOD! For those of you that have never worked around aircraft, FOD stands for Foriegn Object Damage. I still cannot believe that bolt did not jam the intake valve. Feeling lucky.

Returned home Sunday night from a long 4 day weekend adventure - 6 hour road trip, van breaking down, son puking in back seat of ma's car we borrowed, oh ya it was a trip. Sat down at about 9 pm and picked up the local shopper's guide paper. Once in a while there's a deal - but considering the paper arrives Saturday at noon, and the neighbor is worse then I am at searching, I usually don't take the time. That night things were different.... There it was - 1997 520H Wheelhorse, 44" snowblower, weights, chains, Cab, mower deck (never used), low hours, runs great. Price was unbelievable. Being late I text, got a response. Said it was 350 hours approximately. I called, he said he bought it used years back, paid alot of money - didn't use it and gave it to his daughter to use but she just couldn't handle it, too big of a tractor. Set up a time to view it - thinking someone else would sneak in to grab it. Thats ok, got plenty of bills and wasn't sure how to pay for it anyways. But alas, it was still there when I arrived Monday night. As I pulled up the driveway, I could see it parked in the garage. I knew it was going home with me. But the guy was way off on the hours...... there were only 116....... Wow - as my buddy put it, sometime God just smiles at you - So the entire package: 1997 520-H Original Brand tractor cab, with rear lights 44" Two Stage WH Blower Front Mount Kit 42" RD Deck (Mower deck and front mount kit never used) Rear wheel weights Front wheel weights Chains Rear ballast box Anyone have a ballpark of what this cost in 1997? I think the brochure showed $5295 and I'm thinking that was just the tractor correct?

The eaton had at least 4 different gearing speeds over the years it was in production, but that one with the 15" wheels will be an oddball. It might be worth comparing parts lists and seeing where they made up the difference for the 15" wheels you might be able to swap in some parts from different models to pick up some speed. Also check to make sure you are getting the full 3600rpm from the engine (also applies to the blade speed). Awesome tractor!

So basically I began my life on WH in 1992. We bought a 312 Classic with 42" SD and a single stage blower because our neighbor had a 1985 Classic 312 and loved it. Did alot of mowing - had 7 mowing jobs through high school. Graduated in 97, moved away and didn't have a rider until last summer. Meanwhile dad sells our 312 with 1300 hours on it, and buys a 1997 520-H to upgrade. I'm jealous....in fact his, when he bought it, it was 2003 or so? 2004? It had only 200 hours on it - Last summer after moving up here family gives me a 10-32 rear engine. A beater, but cuts awesome. I'm 6'2 and a little fluffy, and that little thing makes me look even more fluffy.....Too big of yard for a push mower now! Then I decide a need a bigger mower. $300 for a old wheelhorse close to my dad's. Blower included. Hey why not? Guess what - it's the neighbors 312 from 1985. He passed, the son had it and beat the living snot out of it. Hour meter broke at 878 or so, I'm guessing it has a million from the looks of it. But it runs! Dad said he'll go through it. Good guy to, he kept up that 92 model of ours great. Well, dad didn't keep track of the parts cost, and $500 later he's got my total purchase up to $800. Eh, still not bad. New blades, spindles, belts- it's ready to rock! But then I'm on Craigslist..... and what do I see? Posted 15 minutes ago - in Rhinelander where I used to live.... 1988 Model 520, snowblower, cab, runs good, $450. That doesn't seem right. I email, turns out guy I know. Ends up here - no mower deck but a two stage blower! Wow that'll move the snow!!!! After a helacious winter in 2013/2014 I figured now I was ready. Well, didn't need it. Booo. Dad wants to tinker with it, he does some painting on rusty parts, and replaces a shorting out key switch. Just got it back last weekend. The weekend I opened the paper and found the tractor above!!!! As of now I do not have a mower deck for either 520. the 88 is going up for sale when I finish up a couple things - and the older two stage. 312 is too - burns a little oil but that just adds character. I found someone whom I am going to trade the 88's snow cab for a 48" deck in good shape - so then that deck will get cleaned up and go under the 1997. The long range plan is to sell anything not bolted down, and keep my "new" tractor, blower, and cab.

I rounded up the horses for a group photo! the 520-H with 488 hours and a NOS 48 inch deck. Also the 60th anniversary 2007 315-8 with 162 hours. Last but not least the 212-6 with 902 hours. The 520 has SOO much power!! I also got the 212-6 all shined up and prepared to the show.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch...While Steve is busy trying to pedal his wares I'll be off snaggin all the deals... I'm off this coming week and I have LOTS of things to do.

I'm agreeing on the repowered 603. That's not the original motor. The motor ID plate doesn't belong there either. I believe only the 603 had that steering wheel.

Here's a score I found at the yard sale of our local Wheel Horse dealer after the owner retired. I had a dripping output shaft and axle seal and a key way issue on the right axle that my dad had repaired and would probably be fine but after seeing a "used" 8 speed on the shelf in the parts room and finding out he wanted $80 for it I took it home! It still has paint on the brake drum and inside the bolt holes that mate to the frame and a fresh shifter boot! I got it painted with urethane and mated up last night.

I have a 854 for sale and a kohler magnum 12hp off a 312-8 both run good asking $550.00 for the 854 and $350.00 for the engine Brian

Dang John that absolutely sucks. Sounds like you were lucky and had a phone with you. I already know how painful that is. Why did you leave your sea legs in the house??? Heal fast my friend...hope to see you at the show. I think we all will want to sign your cast.

Sorry to hear that. My ramp is very slippery when wet. I was just telling my son that I need to paint it with sand paint. Hope you feel better soon.

What you have is a 1963 round hood 653 that would have had a 6 hp Tecumseh engine . (HH60 ) You may be lucky and find a relacement engine on that auction site or you could place a wanted ad here in the classified section. Or you could put a similar sized Kohler engine say a K141 She looks like a good straight tractor . you may want to look out for a square seat pan too. The most important thing that you must do , is have fun restoring her.

6 Grand is certainly a good hunk of change but who am I to judge. 6 grand wouldn't get you much in the way of a new John Deere or Cub Cadet garden tractor. I have certainly paid the price for things I thought I wouldn't be able to live without thru the yrs. Seniors aren't easy to come by, I think now that this NOS 420 is gone we won't be seeing too many more NOS 420's for sale either.. Another thing to remember is not everyone is into Senior's, maybe he collect's the later tractor's, might even be a member in good standing here.. Now, the real question is.... Will he run it???? And congrats to the new owner! Now clean the friggin dirt off of it!!

I'm currently trying to work thru building a 3 pt with receiver hitch for my C 165. I'm using some parts I had from a doner D and a u-haul hitch. It's a work in progress and may be for a while as I find time to work on it. I started with the ford/u-haul receiver and then cut it up a bit. After that, I trimmed off all that needed to go and then welded it up. I see that Stevebo has his setup quite compact and was able to get everything under the seat pan from what I can tell. The arm mounting brackets from the D are about 18" tall so I extended my arm mounts back far enough to just clear the fender and tank. I'm sure that will require me adding weight to the front of the tractor so I can pick up a decent load. At this point I'm going to weld some heavy angle vertically to just clear the seat pan. To that, I'm going to mount the lift arm brakets from the D. I plan on using hydraulics for the lift with some more parts from the D donor.

When I started working with solvents and chemicals disposable gloves didn't exist and rubber gloves didn't live anywhere except in soapy water, now adays it's nitrile or latex gloves and then what ever is appropriate to protect them except when feel and or machinery creates a safety issue

It's the fumes that get me. After becoming violently ill using oven cleaner back in college I seem to have developed a sensitivity to certain chemical fumes. (It was the only time we cleaned the oven in our apartment, and wanted to avoid forfeiting the security deposit. Used A LOT of EasyOff!). Bleaches, tub/tile cleaner, and so forth always give me a headache. But, it still doesn't get me out of cleaning the bathroom! Jeff

I guess I'm lucky. I've worked with harsh chemical all my life, never using gloves. I have been told many years later that the chemicals that I used are metabolized by your liver, and that I will suffer the results of my misuse later in life. So far, so good. I have a physical every year with blood work specific to liver function. Don't get me wrong, I am not condoning the mishandling of chemicals, I am just saying that I don't know if I have problems waiting for me later on, but as of now, I am okay. Having said that, I do wear latex or nitrile gloves now when working with most liquids that are known to be harmful. As I am on the slippery side of the slope of life, I don't want to speed up that slide.
