Returned home Sunday night from a long 4 day weekend adventure - 6 hour road trip, van breaking down, son puking in back seat of ma's car we borrowed, oh ya it was a trip. Sat down at about 9 pm and picked up the local shopper's guide paper. Once in a while there's a deal - but considering the paper arrives Saturday at noon, and the neighbor is worse then I am at searching, I usually don't take the time. That night things were different.... There it was - 1997 520H Wheelhorse, 44" snowblower, weights, chains, Cab, mower deck (never used), low hours, runs great. Price was unbelievable. Being late I text, got a response. Said it was 350 hours approximately. I called, he said he bought it used years back, paid alot of money - didn't use it and gave it to his daughter to use but she just couldn't handle it, too big of a tractor. Set up a time to view it - thinking someone else would sneak in to grab it. Thats ok, got plenty of bills and wasn't sure how to pay for it anyways. But alas, it was still there when I arrived Monday night. As I pulled up the driveway, I could see it parked in the garage. I knew it was going home with me. But the guy was way off on the hours...... there were only 116....... Wow - as my buddy put it, sometime God just smiles at you - So the entire package: 1997 520-H Original Brand tractor cab, with rear lights 44" Two Stage WH Blower Front Mount Kit 42" RD Deck (Mower deck and front mount kit never used) Rear wheel weights Front wheel weights Chains Rear ballast box Anyone have a ballpark of what this cost in 1997? I think the brochure showed $5295 and I'm thinking that was just the tractor correct?

I rounded up the horses for a group photo! the 520-H with 488 hours and a NOS 48 inch deck. Also the 60th anniversary 2007 315-8 with 162 hours. Last but not least the 212-6 with 902 hours. The 520 has SOO much power!! I also got the 212-6 all shined up and prepared to the show.

Today Was going to be a cool day compared to the heat wave that we have had for the last week. With a bit more than a week to go for the "Big Show," I decided to stain the floor of my new trailer. Went early to buy the materials and came home to scrub the floor clean. I was just finished and was walking down the ramp when one foot slipped and the other leg ended up under my butt. I then fell the rest of the way to the ground. PAIN! I ended up laying there for a short time while I gathered my wits. My right knee and ankle didn't feel quite right. I called my wife at work to tell her (1-1/2 hour away) and then tried my neighbor as the other two neighbors weren't home. No answer, so after about fifteen minutes, I decided to try and stand. I was able to get up but my right foot didn't move with my leg. Uh Oh! Hobbled in to put ice on it when my neighbor called back. She came over to bandage me and stayed while my wife came home. A trip to Urgent Care to find out that I have broken my fibula. Tomorrow I go see the Orthopedic surgeon for the prognosis. At this point I am certain that I will not be able to drive to the show. Darn!!! If I can be mobile, I'm hoping that "Mrs. Sailor" could drive me up for Friday. Ironically I was going to mix anti-slip sand into the stain.

I didn't think about this until Lane posted. At 15 it's not old but I'll bet this would attract some interest in the Netherlands. Unlike the state universities a contribution directly to Notre Dame had to be made and they would send a confirmation letter. There was probably the usual additional fee at the license branch as well but I don't recall for sure.

I'm surprised someone hasn't made one. Why not take a Hydro, remove the engine, pop in a nice modern electric motor to drive the hydro, and fill the cavities with batteries!

Kind of reminds me of the old "A, B, C" Wheel Horse sales brochure from the 70's. Nice

Full throttle would be about 3600 rpm I believe that your sickle was designed to work with the older tractors that had 2.5" drive pulleys. You might try the outer pulley on your PTO that would slow it a bit and run at half throttle. Sickles do not need much horsepower.

Hey guys! I'm new to the board and thought I would share my project. Growing up my dad bought a 1976 B-100 that I learned to mow on when I was 6 years old. It was the first motorized anything I ever drove. Over the years I spend a serious amount of time on that tractor and learned everything from how to operate a clutch to back up a trailer. Fast forward 25 years....dad stopped mowing with the B-100 because the engine had lost compression and power. It got put in the corner of the barn for 5 years and he bought a used 92' Horse. Two weeks ago, a good friend bought a zero turn and had a 96' Horse that was spotless. He asked my dad if he wanted to buy it and he pulled the trigger. Having no room in the barn for the B-100 he asked me if I wanted it. Heck yeah! I swung by that week with the trailer and brought it home. I thought I would start with an engine rebuild and mow with it but as I started to tear into it things got out of hand. I decided to do a full show quality rebuild and am currently finishing up the paint work. I used PPG epoxy primer and Urethane top coat. I am currently doing body work on the sheet metal to fix a couple dings that were probably from me or my brother growing up. Last night I pulled the K241 apart and am dropping the block and crank at the machine shop tommorow morning. Turns out the top piston ring was cracked and had a loose piece floating. I expected to find a piston with "STD" on the top but after cleaning up the top it has a single "1" stamped in the top. Not sure if this is a standard bore or a 0.010 over? I guess I'll find out after it gets to the machine shop. Here's some pics of the progress!! Back form the media blaster....time to smooth out the metal. Epoxy primer on,,, Laying down some glossy red!! Fresh coat of Sherwin William Linen White paint on the wheels.. Mower deck coming back together...

After seeing the orthopedic surgeon this morning, surgery is Wednesday morning. My ankle is swollen enough to look like I am firmly rooted to the ground! I guess I really did a number as the ligament was torn and the break will require a metal plate. Supposedly it will heal quicker by performing the surgery, and have less chance of arthritis in years to come. The bummer is approximately 10 weeks until a clean bill of health. So much for using the 5xi's foot pedals this Summer. Good thing I have the C-145A with the motion control lever that will be next to my cast.

Echo makes great stuff. I have 2 saws, 1 trimmer, 2 water pumps, a hedge clipper, a blower, and an engine powered drill. All are well-used and still run like new. Dad still uses the 24 year old curved shaft trimmer (GT2100) weekly. Never a hiccup, never a problem. Use good oil, and they last for years. I think the newer stuff runs a little leaner than the old stuff for emissions reasons. Did you notice the trimmer head spins the opposite direction from your GT curved shaft? That took me by surprise when I switched from a GT to an SRM260 10 year ago. I think they offer a "high torque" version of some of them that has a deeper gear reduction. Even without the split boom, you can still equip your trimmer with other accessories. They offer a tiller/cultivator attachment and I think they sell (sold?) an edger as well. Steve

Thanks, I found them on line at McMasters. I have another question, please. I just got the sickle bar up and running tonite and I thought it was going to take flight. I mean it is waay too fast. I have a 4 3/4" dia. pulley coming off the pto, I'm using the rear (closest to the engine) pto pulley. I tried backing off the pressure on the clutch and it helped a bit, but it's either too slow or too fast using that adjustment, besides I'm assuming that will just wear out the clutch real fast due to slippage. I'm thinking about getting a larger driven pulley for the sickle bar. Does any one know what the rpm is on the driver pulley at full throttle? (12 h.p Kohler). Any ideas/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Red Max should also be considered. Commercial grade units. I work for a large grounds maintenance company and we use and also sell Red Max. We have used the other brands but find the least issues with RedMax

I do meet two of the criteria: It's related to owning Wheel Horses.I have a head to put it on.I will claim extra credit because mine also included a trailer, and I live in Maryland.

Geez, I would have trouble keeping track. I am constantly getting hurt. I slammed the seat pan on a Commando 8 down on my arm 3 or 4 times before I got smart enough to put a prop under it. Non tractor related my right arm is kind of dead from slamming it into door frames I walk by constantly

I am looking for some old car license plates. Koen (C-101plowerpower), in the Netherlands, has a friend that has a drinking establishment and is looking to decorate it with that kind of stuff...no money here...just donations...but appreciate the help. I would take them at the show and mail them to Koen. Thanks

check the oil level also you can unplug the motor from the wiring harness at the back of the motor that will take the oil level sensor out of the picture the relay only works with the oil sensor and see if she will start Brian

Gave dad a call late this afternoon and asked him if he was up for a 4 hour road trip. Next thing you know the trailer was hooked up and off we went. Had a great time chatting after yet another Horse. We haven't gone after many lately so this was a good time for both of us, especially since it was a bucket list tractor. this one is far from perfect as it was used to mow the lawn and blow snow in the winter. I know, hard to believe right? She has some dings but with some TLC should turn out ok. Some of the chrome will be redone in the future, while the rest isn't too shabby and should polish out ok. It has 772 hours on the working meter and is #85 out of 200. Some damage is a little disappointing, but the most important thing is that it exists. This one has been owned by a few folks and the seller was unaware of what he had.

Mike, if I needed to borrow a lawnmower from you, and you loaned me one with a Techumseh on it...I would do the same thing. Of course the carburetor is on the deck, that is the first thing to go...and if I had the time to get the engine loose, it would become structure in a river and probably have a Bass hiding behind it.

No pics...yet...but wait till my hauler shows up... 1999 Toyota Sienna minivan with 286,000 miles on it...but hey it's still pulling a horse and considering it only cost me $1500 maybe it's finally time to get another wheel horse...but then I'll probably need to buy a truck...

This will be my first show. Traveling all the way from Western mass looking like a 7 hour trip without stops. I will only have my small trailer with my 603 and one other tractor behind my 2011 tundra. Debating about my 12 auto or my bronco 14 (I know its the feature tractor). The bronco transmission started acting weird so I may opt for the 12 auto. I will be the guy wrangling 3 kids.

Item 21 part number 1482 has been replaced by Toro 103118 for 1-1/4" shaft A Chicago Rawhide/SKF replacement is CR12330 from places like Napa Item 22 part number 1232 has been replaced by Toro 100863 for 1" shaftA Chicago Rawhide/SKF replacement is CR9815 from places like Napa Notice the CR/SKF part numbers are close to the shaft diameter. Best to take the old seals with you to verify the above part numbers are correct when ordering. Garry

Sickle Bar sms42-A looking for the oil seals that go to the assy shaft weldment (item 9) oils seal (item 21) 1 1"4 shaft and one behind the pulley 4" dia. (item 29) oil seal (item 22) 1" shaft. These reference numbers are from the sms42-A parts list. Or maybe a place I can order them. Or maybe some ideas on how to stop the leaks. Btw thanks for the great info on how to reattach the shift lever after it came off. It's a simple fix but getting to that set screw is a real pain

Well, I could always try and borrow this one from a friend our ours Here's a picture from a couple years ago when I was just finishing up the 401 and a friend was working on building the stack for me. Sure looks different with single wheels on the rear. Sure could fit some horses in this rig though! Anyways as for what we'll bring, probalby going to take our flatbed from the farm this year, has a 12ft long bed on it so should be able to bring a couple horses and still have room just in case we find anything we can't live without. Don't have any pictures of it.
