10 pointsLOL...Basically sprayed them down with water and Simple Green. Toyed with the idea of restoring them for a few years , but the "patina" has grown on me. If you look close you can see my re-upholstery work. They're really not that bad except for some surface rust. Mechanically they are in great shape. I'm sure both spent some time of their life exposed to the elements, but for 40 and 41 years old and pretty much all original, I think they've aged pretty well. The C-100 is my snow mover. The B-80 is a backup for the C-100 and mainly a yard puller. I mow with it about once a month to give it some running time, but given the fact that it has a turning radius of a small SUV, it just isn't practical for mowing my small yard every week. I'd imagine both will probably still be running well after my riding days are over.
-
5 pointsSo do you think we can get this to work? Couldn't resist, it was sitting in the yard and the color was a match.
-
5 pointsHere's what I started with this morning... and what I finally ended up using today. (and, of course...the picts will only load in reverse order)

3 pointsAfter a dipper broke off the connecting rod, which caused the engine to throw a rod, it was time for a rebuild. I also decided, since thre engine was out and looking so good, I'd do a refresh of the entire tractor. Below are the before and after pictures of the engine refresh. Tractor pictures to follow.

3 pointsHey guys I'm new here, but I figured I would share my project I have going on. My neighbor was going to take his old c-100 to the land fill and I asked him about it, he said if I wanted it, it was mine. So I picked up for free! I have a 520-H that I'm pulling the onan off of and using it to power the c-100. My later plans are to put the hydrostatic rear end under the c-100 too. Yes the 520 was in perfect running shape, but I never was fond of that body style, so I'm building one!

3 points1000 bucks for a mint NOS Raider 14? I'm not full of money but for that price I'll take 5 of em...
-
3 points3 grand maybe. I think it was you that told me an NOS 420 sold for 4500 so that is what I'm going by. The Raider is wicked nice but it ain't an NOS 420 with all that Chrome, the leather seat, the 20 hp Kohler and the limited run of roughly 200 made on the 420 there has got to be a 1500 dollar difference between the two. I think the Raider can be duplicated for probably 1500 bucks if a guy wanted to do one and if he did all the work himself. Naturally it won't be NOS. I wouldn't want to be the guy that sells an NOS tractor to someone that thinks it would be fun to cut their grass with it. Even though that is what they were made for it would be a shame to see that happen after all these yrs of it remaining MINT. At the end of the day who really knows how to value an NOS tractor, I think the only guy that can tell you that is the guy that is serious about buying one...

3 pointsit has been a while since the motivation has been there to spend some time out in the barn. Last year is behind us and I am starting to feel rejuvenated to get some more things done. Took some time recently to add some more items. Really happy to add these to the collection.
-
3 pointsFinally some more progress on the HC. Hood and fender painted and installed. Just need decals (which I have thanks to Terry) and machine is complete. Cleat
-
3 pointsSorry you hurt yourself, but if you are coming to the Wheel Horse Show in June, you may just qualify for this.
-
3 pointsI bought it, starts and sounds good. The deck is real clean, it needs front tires and a good going over but I think it is a nice rig. Plow and snow blower came with it and a book with parts list.
-
2 pointsAnyone putting out some of their tractors for a Memorial Day theme? I put a quick one together this morning. I used to take a tractor or 2 downtown for a "Wheels on Main Street show but I would get there early for a good spot only to return and find out the Farmall guys wanted my spot and moved my display. Never again! So I have a "Private " one every year. Post them up!
-
2 pointsStarted out Friday afternoon with what I thought was a great display. Look what I found Saturday morning! Gotta love my neighbors.
-
2 pointsI should have stopped & snapped a pic of one guys house Saturday morning on my way to our wheeler drop spot . He must have 1500 flags stuck into his front yard & above his house he had an enormous " ALL GAVE SOME - SOME GAVE ALL " sign . Quite impressive !
-
2 pointsWell, here's what I'm starting with. The first 4 pics were taken 7 years ago (when the machine was 34 y/o) when I first picked up the machine from a local seller. Been cutting with it every weekend in the summer, and throwing snow every winter. Time to refresh this baby. And the last 5 are as of this afternoon ... More to follow soon.

2 pointsToday we remember those who died defending our country and freedoms. Thank you to all who have served. Unfortunately, with the forum upgrade I do not have a patriotic theme to apply Happy Memorial Day.

2 pointsGot a real nice '86 417-A from fellow Red Square member mimmmurray today. This has more dust than rust as it had been stored for 12 years. Now I need to expand my knowledge-base on the KT Series II.
-
2 pointsIf anyone does not believe that those gears throw oil...put the trans on a work bench with either an electric motor (I use a 1/3 hsp with a rheostat so the speed is close to correct)) or with a figure eighted fan belt off the drive pulley of another horse and look down the shifter hole with a flash light. It is like it is raining in there and that is the only way the shift rail shafts and detente parts get oil.

2 pointsHi Guys, Got side-tracked by a leaking toilet! I'm using Rustolium Sunrise Red. I have wet sanded using 1200 grit twice now. First wet sand was after the 2nd coat and a two day dry. Another coat and a day drying and i did the 2nd wet sand. The first sanding removed the dimensional "specs" and after the 2nd sanding, I would say the orange peel look is 50% reduced. It's glossy but not near an automotive finish. We have had the real cold days and dampness on top of it. The paint has been drying now for three days. I think I'll head to NAPA for some 2000 grit and some emery cloth. I wish the pollen count would go down. Even in the garage I see a light green on the tractor hoods! After I sand it this time, I'm going to cut down on the thickness of the coating. I guess you really need patience to do this, huh?!!! (It's a virtue I sure as heck don't possess)! My father has to be laughing from above at this process. He was a Chevrolet bodyman and paint specialist for 45 years! Wish he was here to advise. I'm sure he would have taken over the project by now!

1 pointHi all, it suddenly occurred to me that i haven't actually posted anything in this section of the forum, so I though i would share my horse with you as i have only done so on the restorations modifications and customisations board. The is my first horse and its a 1972 A-800 ranger, I am currently in the process of customisation called 'project agri-800', what I'm doing here is turning a lawn tractor into a garden tractor. lights, stack, Uni-drive, front spindle to 4 lug hub and agri style rear tyres are some of the modifications I have either done or doing to get there. the main modification is obviously getting rid of the peerless tranny and fitting a Uni-drive i and in the process of doing that now. once i have finished this project I will have a one-of-a-kind heavy duty garden tractor that I will make various implements for such as a harrow, reel mower and various other bits. anyway, here are some videos from my youtube channel, i was only driving around the small garden here but the tractor will be used at the allotment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2mjMdbKd3U&spfreload=10 haha, opening line in this video "bet you didn't know i had one of these", it was one of my first videos of a wheel horse on my previously stationary engine and workshop related channel, I would hope being a red square member would suggest i own a WH!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpqluu0pfY0&spfreload=10 and some pictures for you all: thanks for looking, I hope I might have let some of you see the A series in a different light, callum

1 pointI'm pretty sure drool on the paint will add some serious de-value factor to the equation...
-
1 pointPicked up a 702 today with a snow blower and blade .... I need some help with the head lights are the an add on or not
-
1 pointI had a very productive last few days finishing the wiring/lights with cousins Tim and Todd. I took the time to really get the barn organized a bit today after all the other work. Here are some pics. Ready for final CO. In honor of Memorial Day I hung the 48 state flag I got from a buddy of mine. I really like how it looks.
-
1 pointI agree Mike. No profit. But if a person was looking for a quality user it's leaps and bounds above what $2500 will buy new today. This is a tough one to value.

1 pointNice W/H, It's worth what ever you were willing to give. That's if you are going to keep it and not use it, If you bought it for a user, well 900.00 to 1200.00 ?
-
1 pointNow I'm curious what you had to edit out Mike! I don't know about you sometimes You can see the holes in the pic, there just filled with fence posts I don't know about NY code but I had to bury those huge plastic mold footing thingys and sona tubes. Needed a real backhoe for those since they needed to be buried 4ft. Footing things were about 2 1/2 ft square. Are you sure about the holes? I can have the wife take some low angle pics!

1 pointAnd you DO NOT need the "power flow bagger" set-up for that deck to bag the discharge -- The 37" decks were apparently designed to generate extra lift/throw -- There is a factory 2 bag collection system with a 3 piece HDPE (I assume) tube system to attach directly to this deck -- Optimally this would be used with a special replacement "high lift" right blade (has extra large fins on the back of the cutting area) -- Special blade is NOT required 12 horses will do all of the cutting/blowing (I am assuming you won't try to run a 2-stage blower) you could possibly want to do -- You will always lose traction before running out of power -- My experience is with a 310-8 which would supposedly be equivalent to your 312-A in that the hydro consumes more power than the geared transmission

1 pointWorn and sloppy bearings could cause shafts to move out of alignment things to bind....possibly. My 606 would "lock-up" and get stuck once in a while shifting before I rebuilt it's 5053 trans. some of the bearings had lost the rollers completely. Although it's more likely to be one of the problems mentioned above^^. Just my 2 cents
-
1 pointSome of you may remember me saying I don't buy things I don't need! Well? Apparently , I need a 312h. A guy I work with called me last Thursday during my P.T. session and wanted me to call him asap. When I called, he was at a garage sale and the fella having the sale had a tractor in his shed that he wanted gone. It was a 312h that has a 42" deck but, the deck has a big crack about 2/3 of the way around the right spindle base from hitting a paver stone. The deck would not turn. So, he took it off. After he found what it would cost to repair or replace the deck? He opted for a different tractor instead. That was 6 years ago. He put it in the corner of the shed to work on it later. But, like a lot of us? Never got to it. Not really wanting it? I naturally low balled the heck out of it." $25 dollars is all I would offer". Fully knowing (or hoping), that may offend him. And, he would say "no way". WRONG! "When can you pick it up, he asked"? Now, I am the one caught. "Probably not til next week, I say". "No problem, he says. Been in there 6 years, another week ain't gonna hurt". I picked up the deck on Friday. I think I can fix it. I looked at the tractor too, very clean. Any info on these 312's ? Good/bad? Oh, and? Sorry TerryM, it is just 3 blocks east of you.

1 pointGood lookin' display there Mikey. Here's last years...and the year before. and of course, we'll see what we can come up with again tomorrow.

1 pointNot trying to burst your bubble, the rear weights are Not Wheel Horse. The original weights are two piece weights that bolt from the inside off the wheel. Other than that I think you did good. The snow blower looks interesting for sure, Good Luck!

1 pointI told you to bring a BIG trailer....you were only 5 miles from my horse barn....could have made you trip more interesting.......so now you know where Warsaw Missouri is located, huh? Dave, you guessed it ...now that NOS is probably going back east where Rick found it???....Steve, we need to increase the toll at your river front toll both don't we?.....

1 pointReassembly is fairly straightforward, a lot simpler than the eight speed. All of the parts cleaned up ready; As recommended by Mike I used only clean oil for lubrication during the assembly. Note that the pinions are staggered. A bit of masking tape over the keyways so as not to nick the axle seal on the way through, plus plenty of oil to help it slide through. I used all new Grade 8 bolts, locking nuts and washers to secure the centre. note the special thin washers go under the bolt head, not the nut. Torqued up to 35 ft lbs (thanks Martin); and slide the assembly back home; next in goes the intermediate shaft and gear; the brake shaft with its' gear; and finally the input gear also slides down over the brake shaft; I used a new gasket between the case halves with some hardening sealer and dropped the left half over to close the assembly. There are a number of through bolts and two or three that are tapped into the case. Those are 3/8" UNC but I discovered that 10mm bolts would fit the through holes. These are slightly bigger in diameter and easier to get here where most fasteners are metric. I was able to use Grade 8 zinc plated bolts with nylocs torqued to 35 ft lbs. Seat the new brake shaft seal with a bit of sealant, and here we have it, a refurbished rear axle assembly ready for at least another 25 years of work. These Wheel Horse rear axle assemblies are a very well built heavy duty unit and I think it would take a fair amount of abuse to break one. next - the Eaton 1100 refurb.
