11 pointsMy wish list is very short But a 754 was on the short list. Never really thought I could get one. But you never know right. Last Sept. a friend of mine said he had one he was thinking of selling. I told him I wanted it. So then from the guy who bought it. I found out he bought it a couple of years ago. Do to my friends age I figure he for got about selling it. Along comes last Saturday he says I'm ready to sell that 754. Ok when can I come & get it? So on Monday before I leave I call. He says I'm sorry I must of sold it. That's ok I kinda knew this. Then a couple days later one shows up on Facebook. It's in my garage now.

6 pointsillinilefttackle : Thanks for posting ! Your daughter took some very good pictures. I took a few but I did not get around until later in the morning. Here are a few more for folks to see.

5 pointsWell I just got back from a 5 hour round trip!! Got the whole package for 500 bucks!! One tractor is pretty rough with over 3000 hours on the meter but the other is much better with just over 800 hours. The rd deck is rusty but really solid and seems to have everything in working order. The 48 has 2 holes in typical spot but other then that it's good. Plow is ok but the blade is kinda bent somehow? Also got a set of tire chains. Looking forward to start tinkering to see what I really got. I'm guessing I should have no problem getting 1 good 417 that I'll hopefully refurbish to a really nice machine. I really really like the look and style of these 417's. I intended to pick up a plow before next winter anyway and it never hurts to have extra decks. As u could imagine I'm really happy with this haul. Got a few pics of the loaded trailer and will add more as I go.

4 pointsA little sunshine today, so I brought the 416-H out to see how the new paint looks in the sunlight. Here she is with her repaired dash and hoodstand components, new seat, freshly painted footrests, belt guard and side panel. Just waiting for the hood and fender pan to be painted. I've got a set of Terry's "anniversary" decals ready to go on. I'm going on vacation, so I might not have it finished until just before the Little Guy's Show. But despite the horrible weather we've had, and other factors that have slowed me down this winter, I've made some progress. I swore I was going to take this winter off and not redo a tractor, but you know what they say, this addiction is powerful.

4 pointsTerryM and I got there about 15 minutes after Illinilefttackle left...9:00AM. Sorry I missed you Al. Let's try for Scott's M&G in October. Sorry guys...it was too nasty for the camera and everyone was so bundled up, you could not tell one of us from the other. I got confused by Brrly1 and Jake...if that is possible. There was a good group of guys there though...got to talk with everyone. I was able to pick up all the stuff for everyone...so that was good. My wife made Beef Stew for Terry and me when we got home...great comfort food and warmed us up. Sorry about no pictures guys.

3 pointsWOW! ANother Great swap meet. No pictures either, very busy meeting people, and new people, talking, and selling. I got there last night, Friday and had the canopy & tables setup by 9:00, only a very light rain then. Slept in the jeep, woke up about 7am and probably 12 pickups with big trailers arrived during the night, silently . . . must have been 60 sellers all set up by 9am. Seemed like everyone was busy all morning, and it rained and kept raining, sometimes very light, sometimes so-so, I measured about 1/2". Many sellers started leaving about 1pm and the crowds slowed way down. Nice bonfire Friday evening. Excellent large site, very easy to find, well marked, lots of directional signs. Gene & Ken even had rolls and coffee ready very early in the morning, and then a nice lunch (hot dogs, hamburgs, drinks, etc.) in late morning. A very nice get together, lots of tractors and parts, lots of 'regulars' and it seemed to me that there were a lot of new, never-been-to-a-Wheel Horse-show people. Great Job Gene & Ken:

2 pointsGreat Pictures! This was my first wheel horse show, even with the rain it was a lot of fun.
-
2 pointsIt just amazes me that there isn't another application in the whole wide world that uses that size bearing.
-
2 pointsI mow with a c160 auto and 48 deck, she is a beast,it will go through any thing with in reason,i also mow with a 414-8 with 48,very hard to find a difference in power, the k series and m are basically the same engine, justdifferent ignition, and some other things that don't play into power comparisons,so go for it you wont be disapointed

2 pointsIt looks like a machine gun tho....I'll bet under the hood it says "Kilroy was here"

2 pointsWell, Honda did make a 650 turbo version of the engine... If one of those should happen to "drop on my lap" (highly unlikely), then it would be rude not to swap engines It could be underpowered. I'd guess it maybe weighs the same as the complete bike and I've still more stuff to add. A little bit more progress has been made... Brake pedal moved inwards a bit and what will be the throttle in place.. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one.. As you know I am using two bike master cylinders for WN's brakes, one front brakes, one rear, but I also need a way to set the balance on them, or more braking at the back than the front as it's otherwise known.. I did look at brake bias valves but other than Chinese cheap rubbish they were all rather expensive! I could of built a linkage using cams to apply different pressure to each master cylinder until a thought hit me.. As you will of seen by the photo in my last post I had been thinking of having the MC's next to each other... But what would happen if one was above the other? Taaa Daa The higher you go up the lever the more it goes forward, so the top MC (rear brakes) gets more pressure and sooner than the bottom (front brakes) MC All I need to do is weld the MC frame to the chassis, change the lever bit for something a bit stronger and connect it via a rod to the brake pedal.. A little fine tuning will be needed I expect, but I'm rather hopeful this system will work I'd finish this update with a song, but as I don't want to scare you all away have a video instead

2 pointsNot a whole lot of new progress on the 400, been working on other stuff, but did find a couple parts for it at mentone today. Ended up with a nice set of front rims, a correct original belt guard in nice shape, and a nice frame and new reproduction heat shield. Frame is nothing special, but no pitting, and mine had quite a bit of pitting so this will be a lot easier to fix. The heat shields are pretty nice too, very very close to original, same size just a slightly different bend, if you didn't have an original to look at you could never know the difference. If anybody is looking for one I can put you in contact with him, he was selling them very reasonable. edit...Just checked with him again on heat sheilds and at moment he is not quite ready to sell, he is looking into making some more that he thinks may be a little nicer. Will let you guys know if I hear from him about having some ready to sell.

1 pointPicked up an 854 last week. This machine has hydro lift. Runs perfect. I think I am just gonna paint the wheels and call it a day. Are the wheels white of the almond color? Thanks for looking.

1 pointThe Old Time Plow Boys tractor show was this weekend. Had the garden tractor pulls on sunday. Karl Kunkel has built a nice sled and scale for doing this. Had to bring the C160 down for the event. Did some last minute mods for pulling and ended up weighing in at 923 lbs. I came in third for my class which wasnt bad for a last minute throw together. One of the tractors that beat me was a c81 that was a little heavier than I was. But being an 8 horse, he could put the wieght under him instead of out front with my big 16 one lunger. Here is a video my girlfriend took. Just a little plug for the plow boys. We will start featuring garden tractors next year and the first one to feature is Wheel Horse!!! Hope to get as much wheel horse out that I can with some local red square members support! I also may have some surprizes worked up my sleeve also. More on that later. Nice part is , we have two shows. One in april and one in august which I feel is far enough away from the wheel horse show to drum up interest. https://youtu.be/r6VM9378GnM Here is a video of my 1949 John Deere A on Saturday. I came in second and was inches away from a full pull. I jammed my left break to hard and swung the front end over. Lost momentum and it was all over. https://youtu.be/g0i6-WGOJAA Kyle

1 pointCool video.....even a WH was used to haul the weight sled back! Mike..........
-
1 pointCool! Thanks for the video clips. Pulled my '39/'40 JD-B only once. The guys that ran the pull lumped me in a class with later B's and 50's. I'm on steel wheels with original firestone rubber, they're on cast iron wheels with custom-shaved pulling rubber and weighted out the wazoo not to mention nearly double or more the HP. Don't need to be a smart thinker to figure out how that one went for me, lol!

1 pointI Went for the ride to pick it up,, for sure a nice hard to find tractor, had a great day with good friends..

1 pointI do not have too many left on my bucket list but the elusive 754 is on mine too. Really sweet find for sure. Is the lift block under the seat original or added to this one?
-
1 pointDownload the D&A file for the LT-1100 5-speed if that is what you need. The A is the attachment list. If something else try the model name or the model number. Can't get it to work post the numbers and we can link you to it. Garry

1 pointWow thats awesome! I see I may have jumped the gun a bit. I had my 854 wheels powder coated..............in white. oops. May go back and redo them later. Right now a hood in good condition is the next priority. Doesnt seem to be an abundance of those available.
-
1 pointVery Nice. Looks kinda like my b1300 custom build. I just did it a little differently so I i coud keep the same hood.

1 pointYou can remove the balance gear from any K-Series. From what I have read M-Series all used the same crank shaft and the M16 has three balance gears because of the light crank. I have been afraid to remove the ones in the M-12 as I'm not sure if it would be alright with out them. I would like to know If anyone has removed them from an M-12. I'm sure I wouldn't remove them from a M-14 or M-16.
-
1 pointYou're all jealous!!!! Let's put it in perspective. I stopped by a JD dealer looking at a 4or 500 series. I needed a mower, snow blower, and maybe a plow. I was considering upgrading from my horses. Silly me! The one other accessory which was a must have was a mid mount grader blade. They immediately showed me a 700 series. I politely pointed to a tired Wheel Horse 314-8 they had for sale and said that does what I need. They all smirked as I explained how well a 50" grader blade repairs my 1/4 mile driveway very spring. Fact is if I didn't know any better I may have purchased something bright, shiny, and well NEW. But I think most of our RS members are well educated when it comes to our equipment. Thanks to the many members who've steered me right over the years! You've collectively saved many of us a small fortune. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

1 pointThank God I don't collect JD stuff... Listed locale for $ 700.00 ... Are you kidding me ...

1 pointOne solution is to look at household electric fans.. Here's the fan bit fitted to the trans on my now long gone 518-H which came to me with no blades left on the original cooling fan.
-
1 pointI say go for the M16, a very nice engine.. I have fitted one in my GT-14 which isn't the lightest of WH's, and it has bags of power
-
1 pointSo I have read the flyer a couple times and no-where does it give a starting time......what time are you all planning to be there? Maybe 8am ?? Its only a 30 minute ride for me so its not a big deal....just wondering. Obviously its my first time at this show. Mike.........
-
1 pointAnd if you blow a gasket you can make a new one with the hammerhead I would'a suggested a barbie head down there but her hair would melt on yer engine

1 pointI've been thinking about that rhubarb pie ever since you wrote this. The Big Show can't get here soon enough now!
-
1 pointThey must be cheaper in Maryland - and used. this one is only $600.00. Being a Model 80 with a brass tag must be the key. And I thought Gravely Wood Carts were expensive!

1 pointIf you're serious, we can certainly work something out. Shoot me a PM The auger bits are commercial heavy duty thick steel type, not those thin ice auger type. With 512 to do, it's probably worth it. That's a $H!T load of holes. Once I test her out, that will give me an idea of how long it takes to drill one and what to expect. I don't have the shale but there is plenty of large rocks here so I'm curious how it handles those.
-
1 pointVery nice... Hey, go to your back yard and drill a bunch of holes and then sell them to folks needing a post hole!
-
1 pointDon't worry Mike, I'll pad the seat for ya this time! (Got Roids?) KenB hooked me up with some black leather for the last one but never got around to it before it was sold.
-
1 pointNot a well written article. Don't miss the point that in addition to a $13k tractor he apparently bought $12k worth of attachments. Like a "shovel", whatever that is. A loader perhaps. $25k for his setup is almost as outrageous as $8k for a 48" deck 420LSE in 1986. And the 20 minute hookup for the drive-over deck must have been a mistake. They certainly meant 20 seconds. Steve

1 pointHere she is, worked on it all day, didn't get it started, I think it's a coil issue, no spark. As far as what tractor it is, it may have had new C-120 stickers put over originals?
-
1 pointGreat feedback, thank you. I am a little surprised that Stevebo could not get $2500 for that beauty of a tractor. I would have paid it on the spot. I guess I have an inflated opinion of D200 values and this may be a big part of my problem. Thanks again for all of the help.

1 pointIan , I thought it only right to show our American audience a pic of you standing by your doner car from which your axle Came from, as I am not sure that they would be familiar with our highly prestigious reliant three wheel limo

1 pointIf you're around the horses for very long you'll hear of the very scarce 1533 differential carriage bearing in the stick shift transmissions. The obvious reason for this is simple - they havent been made for many, many years and what few are around are dwindling at an alarming rate. I had heard of guys "machining" a case to fit an oversize bearing but never knew any details, so being a fairly decent home shop machinist with a nice large Bridgeport type mill and lathe I thought I'd see what I could come up with. With member Groundhog44 having a couple sets of cases the 2 of us started looking. The original 1533 bearing is/was 1-1/2 x 2-1/2 x 1/2" - the nearest thing to that (that I could find!) was a R24-2 rs or zz with its diminsions being 1-1/2 x 2-5/8 x 9/16". With only adding 1/8" diameter and 1/16" thickness the case appeared to have ample 'meat' to handle machining out this amount. This size bearing is very common and is relatively inexpensive, so I got 4 of them to see. The first puzzle was to get the case 'fixtured' on the mill to do the boring - this was stumping me til I called my "machinist by trade" buddy and with his years of experience quickly pointed me in the right direction. He was also able to furnish the 2 heavy steel bars needed to 'hang' the case off the mill table. Let me pause here and state the rather obvious fact - this is not a repair that can be done in most of your shops, but I would think many of you know of, or have friends that have the necessary equipment - and its very possible in the not to far future that a visit to a machine shop may have to be done. In order to get a grasp of what we did, I tried to get enough pics to see the set-up... This is the 2 heavy bars mounted to the table with the mills head swiveled around in order to reach the case that will be mounted off the right front of the table to clear the mills knee. This is the case mounted in the fixture where I am about to locate center of the existing bearing bore in preparation for the boring Here I am starting enlarging the hole. The depth of the hole needed to be increased from the original 1/2" to the 9/16" which is only .0625, but has to be done. I finished this step before enlarging the hole the extra 1/8" (this is only 1/16" off each side) And this is the new bearing sitting in its new home - this is a R24 rs bearing meaning it is a sealed unit, its only necessary to 'pop' out the rubber seal to allow oil to flow through, which I have done here (this same bearing in zz designation is a shielded bearing and doesnt require anything)
