My wish list is very short But a 754 was on the short list. Never really thought I could get one. But you never know right. Last Sept. a friend of mine said he had one he was thinking of selling. I told him I wanted it. So then from the guy who bought it. I found out he bought it a couple of years ago. Do to my friends age I figure he for got about selling it. Along comes last Saturday he says I'm ready to sell that 754. Ok when can I come & get it? So on Monday before I leave I call. He says I'm sorry I must of sold it. That's ok I kinda knew this. Then a couple days later one shows up on Facebook. It's in my garage now.

illinilefttackle : Thanks for posting ! Your daughter took some very good pictures. I took a few but I did not get around until later in the morning. Here are a few more for folks to see.

Well I just got back from a 5 hour round trip!! Got the whole package for 500 bucks!! One tractor is pretty rough with over 3000 hours on the meter but the other is much better with just over 800 hours. The rd deck is rusty but really solid and seems to have everything in working order. The 48 has 2 holes in typical spot but other then that it's good. Plow is ok but the blade is kinda bent somehow? Also got a set of tire chains. Looking forward to start tinkering to see what I really got. I'm guessing I should have no problem getting 1 good 417 that I'll hopefully refurbish to a really nice machine. I really really like the look and style of these 417's. I intended to pick up a plow before next winter anyway and it never hurts to have extra decks. As u could imagine I'm really happy with this haul. Got a few pics of the loaded trailer and will add more as I go.

A little sunshine today, so I brought the 416-H out to see how the new paint looks in the sunlight. Here she is with her repaired dash and hoodstand components, new seat, freshly painted footrests, belt guard and side panel. Just waiting for the hood and fender pan to be painted. I've got a set of Terry's "anniversary" decals ready to go on. I'm going on vacation, so I might not have it finished until just before the Little Guy's Show. But despite the horrible weather we've had, and other factors that have slowed me down this winter, I've made some progress. I swore I was going to take this winter off and not redo a tractor, but you know what they say, this addiction is powerful.

TerryM and I got there about 15 minutes after Illinilefttackle left...9:00AM. Sorry I missed you Al. Let's try for Scott's M&G in October. Sorry guys...it was too nasty for the camera and everyone was so bundled up, you could not tell one of us from the other. I got confused by Brrly1 and Jake...if that is possible. There was a good group of guys there though...got to talk with everyone. I was able to pick up all the stuff for everyone...so that was good. My wife made Beef Stew for Terry and me when we got home...great comfort food and warmed us up. Sorry about no pictures guys.

WOW! ANother Great swap meet. No pictures either, very busy meeting people, and new people, talking, and selling. I got there last night, Friday and had the canopy & tables setup by 9:00, only a very light rain then. Slept in the jeep, woke up about 7am and probably 12 pickups with big trailers arrived during the night, silently . . . must have been 60 sellers all set up by 9am. Seemed like everyone was busy all morning, and it rained and kept raining, sometimes very light, sometimes so-so, I measured about 1/2". Many sellers started leaving about 1pm and the crowds slowed way down. Nice bonfire Friday evening. Excellent large site, very easy to find, well marked, lots of directional signs. Gene & Ken even had rolls and coffee ready very early in the morning, and then a nice lunch (hot dogs, hamburgs, drinks, etc.) in late morning. A very nice get together, lots of tractors and parts, lots of 'regulars' and it seemed to me that there were a lot of new, never-been-to-a-Wheel Horse-show people. Great Job Gene & Ken:

Great Pictures! This was my first wheel horse show, even with the rain it was a lot of fun.

It just amazes me that there isn't another application in the whole wide world that uses that size bearing.

I mow with a c160 auto and 48 deck, she is a beast,it will go through any thing with in reason,i also mow with a 414-8 with 48,very hard to find a difference in power, the k series and m are basically the same engine, justdifferent ignition, and some other things that don't play into power comparisons,so go for it you wont be disapointed

Well, Honda did make a 650 turbo version of the engine... If one of those should happen to "drop on my lap" (highly unlikely), then it would be rude not to swap engines It could be underpowered. I'd guess it maybe weighs the same as the complete bike and I've still more stuff to add. A little bit more progress has been made... Brake pedal moved inwards a bit and what will be the throttle in place.. Sometimes the best solution is the simplest one.. As you know I am using two bike master cylinders for WN's brakes, one front brakes, one rear, but I also need a way to set the balance on them, or more braking at the back than the front as it's otherwise known.. I did look at brake bias valves but other than Chinese cheap rubbish they were all rather expensive! I could of built a linkage using cams to apply different pressure to each master cylinder until a thought hit me.. As you will of seen by the photo in my last post I had been thinking of having the MC's next to each other... But what would happen if one was above the other? Taaa Daa The higher you go up the lever the more it goes forward, so the top MC (rear brakes) gets more pressure and sooner than the bottom (front brakes) MC All I need to do is weld the MC frame to the chassis, change the lever bit for something a bit stronger and connect it via a rod to the brake pedal.. A little fine tuning will be needed I expect, but I'm rather hopeful this system will work I'd finish this update with a song, but as I don't want to scare you all away have a video instead

Not a whole lot of new progress on the 400, been working on other stuff, but did find a couple parts for it at mentone today. Ended up with a nice set of front rims, a correct original belt guard in nice shape, and a nice frame and new reproduction heat shield. Frame is nothing special, but no pitting, and mine had quite a bit of pitting so this will be a lot easier to fix. The heat shields are pretty nice too, very very close to original, same size just a slightly different bend, if you didn't have an original to look at you could never know the difference. If anybody is looking for one I can put you in contact with him, he was selling them very reasonable. edit...Just checked with him again on heat sheilds and at moment he is not quite ready to sell, he is looking into making some more that he thinks may be a little nicer. Will let you guys know if I hear from him about having some ready to sell.

Bought this cool little machine today. I do have some fence to install but only need about 10 - 12 post holes and just happened to see this while searching for a hand held post hole auger. It just looked so cool so I made the call to go look at it and came home with a lighter wallet. Another impulse buy. This thing should make quick work of those holes. 4WD (steers like a skid steer), custom trailer, Onan CCK engine and 2 auger bits (6 & 8 inch). Everything works like it should and no leaks so it should be fun to play with tomorrow! A friend who also needs some fence installed is going to be my first customer. If anyone in central New England area needs some holes punched, let me know! I need some jobs for it to help pay the bill. It can come with an operator or be rented by the day. Bet it's fun to use!

So I have to start by saying this is a complete debacle of a tractor, and if any of the purists out there hate the sight 3 or more tractors melded into one, look away now. This thing is rough, and I want to just fix it enough to use it right now. So I bought a 520 front end. This is going to be a snow machine, so I wanted the gear reduction steering to handle the 2 stage. Everything else is basic maintenance aside from the rear axle seals, and a little wiring. Gonna try to use this guy in conjunction with the 48" dozer blade to try and top coat and spread some loam once it's running. The front end went in extremely easy. The frame was already drilled in 4 spots, and everything lines up nice. Put in new bearings and races on the wheels. Thanks again shuboxlover! Found the wrong spring in the break assembly as well. I know I found some other folks on the site with a very similar issue while do some searching. Make sure you have the correct spring. If anyone wants a comparison pic, please let me know. Whelp, thanks for reading.

This is obviously quite light for the 520-H, but I figured I'd post a video anyway. This is pulling a weighted prowler back into position at a strongman competition. I wasn't driving it because I was competing. It was put on by the gym I go to, so I let them use it.

I just completed this task. Like mentioned here getting the hub off was the hard part for me. On my 520H the axle seal was part # 6449 and was just over $10 at my local Toro dealer. I used an old wheel hub as a puller to get the hub off the tractor.

not to start any problems but i have had my share of blown kohler single. it all depends on how well the motor was maintained. whether it was a kohler, onan, briggs or tecky. although i would agree that a kohler is more forgiving if not maintained properly. the kohler balance gears are a problem for the k series. i guess what i'm say is depending on you view they are all good or bad and it gives us something to argue over just the same as ford, chevy, dodge or foreign make argument. basically if you run a motor to low on oil it will go BANG or if you over heat it, it will not end well eric j

The little tractor is really in better and more solid shape then the pictures look. Someone was going thru it and stopped. It has a new coil, condenser, carburetor, voltage regulator, the starter generator looks either new or rebuilt, new starter generator belt, wiring, gas lines and more. It also has NLA Goodyear ag tires on it. With a little tinkering I got it started and test drove it. It mainly needs cosmetics, seat, starter generator belt guard, correct drive belt guard, etc. It came with a rounded small deck that I think if from a round hood (new double drive belts on it too).

I'll bet you that the key was left "on" in the tractor with 3000 hours. Nice score for short money! Mike........

Hey Guys- Back from Mentone- no pics- I didn't melt away but my "Ride" had a hard time-since my knees have decided to give up on me- I have been delegated to getting around on a "Scooter". It usually handles grass pretty well- but today the rain made the going tough- I did get a metal rear fender pan for my C-125 from Kelly & his son and 2 Deck wheels from Dave Coulter. Also met Glen Pettit , he has a great looking trailer & display tent. While Cruising around I met another "BIG Ten Fan" -Burly- from Ohio. NOTICE STEVEASARUS IS MISSING- or at least he was while I was there. I even checked the top of the Cell Phone tower that is there- but Alas- no Dino! Burly looked high & low for him- wanted to meet a fellow "ILLINI" fan. But- maybe another time. Too bad it rained so steady- I have enjoyed Mentone.

Yesterday I picked up a really clean C-145 Automatic. It is originally from Maryland so the score remains the same. I also received the original manuals and registration card which was a plus. This makes my third "Blackhood" as I seem to collect in "3's." It has an original plastic fender so to preserve it, I am going to put a metal fender on as it will be a worker. Overall the paint is in good shape but will take more work than I spent today using polishing compounds. The fender may end up on the classifieds as it is too nice for me with just the paint finish worn. There is also the maintenance sticker under the seat which I had never seen before. A really nice find!

So let me get this straight. Negative to positive, to negative, to positive, to negative, to positive, plus the use of a massive "C" clamp, (1) wooden board with an antiquated electrical switch, some old water pipes connected in a fashion that makes a "make shift" structure for a front blade. << If you could even call that a blade. Add just (1) final ingredient, (1) clueless individual that has NCS, about any type of safety at all, and WHA-LA, you have the makings of who will be leading our country tomorrow! GENIOUS, why did I not think of that? Probably because I have too much respect for myself and others to even try something that stupid. All I can say is RESEARCH before you decide to SEARCH on your own! Rob

Evening chaps, yesterday I got WN's clutch pedal sorted... Up.. Down.... Now you may of noticed when the pedal is in the down position the pull on the cable isn't ideal, but this was soon sorted when I found a matching pair of pedals in a box under the bench! Of course I had to use a matching pair of pedals, so the newly found clutch pedal had a little trim, and extra hole drilled for the cable to attach to, and fitted. The clutch has a nice feel to it. a bit of travel and not too sharp.. I need to fit a stopper to stop the pedal from falling back which is why it's held up with a spanner As for the brake pedal, here it is almost in place. I need to trim about 3/4 inch off the inside to get it a little closer to the engine to make enough space for the throttle pedal. Sorry about the finger in the photo but here you can (just) see the matching pair of bike master cylinders. They came from 1000cc bikes (no idea which bikes, it was a long time ago) and should be more than up to the job. As you will of guessed one is for the front brakes and one for the rear.. The front's being bike calipers will be easy to plumb in... As for the rears, I have worked out a way of linking car and bike brake lines together that does not involve jubilee clips , but more on that when I get there. Yesterday Nigel was looking for something to do, so I gave him one of the rocker covers to strip of paint and give a very quick polish.. Very good it looks too Unable to stop himself at this point one of the exhausts was pulled off to have the ally clamp polished and a coat of high temperature paint.. Which lead to the question of what colour the engine should be painted.. Not having any gloss black between us part of the engine was quickly masked up and hit with more of the high temp paint.. Now it has dried to a matt finish it doesn't look that good, but while it was wet it looked great. So the engine will be going gloss black with a few select ally parts polished up Right side... Left side

Been busy lately trying to finish up school. I got the block off to the machine shop. Painted the engine tins. I just got the Block back .030" kohler piston. Ported the intake and exhaust decked the block and received my torque regrind cam in the mail. So here's a couple pics of the Block all painted up. I will build this engine this weekend.

Thanks Richie. A test run may be as little as a month away... But don't hold me to that Thanks Pullstart, happy you like my crazy updates Yeah, last week was one of those weeks, but so far (ok, it's only Monday) this week is going rather well. Thanks mate. I did think about stacks but that would of given WN a tractor puller sort of look rather than a Hot rod sort of look which I'm aiming for.. Also I'm not sure my ears would take too kindly to a pair of stacks ;lol: Soles should be alright as long as you don't stand or rest feet on the pipes.. I could always put some polished ally heat shields on if needs be. Burning the treads off sounds a fine idea to me I like your thinking.. Shovel Horse has a good ring to it Well chaps, WN now has a fully working suicide shift.. Working out the linkage was quite easy, making it all fit between the chassis and steering rod was not so easy.. Your have to wait til the next video to see it in action I'm afraid, but here's a few photo's to give you an idea. Pulling back on the shifter pushes the rod at the base forward.. Which pushes on the top of the L shaped pivot thingy and thus causes the next part of the linkage to be pulled down.. Which pulls down on on the cut down bike foot shifter and thus you have 1st gear.. I'm sure you can work out how to get the other 4 gears I've no idea which model Wh this pedal came from, but it makes a great clutch pedal.. By sheer luck the Honda's clutch cable couldn't of been a better fit.. With the cable routed over the top of the engine, the end that need to be connected to the pedal ends up about here.. That should make it very easy to connect

MSRP in 1992 for a 318, minus deck was $6479. Specs on a 318 is P218 18 hp Onan twin cylinder engine, hydrostatic transmission, turning brakes, power steering, dual hydraulic spools with two front hydraulic outlets, optional category 0 3 point hitch. I had a 1988 318, but I have a 1988 430 now, which probably trumps a 318.

I used "Cove edge" (the 4"high x 40" long) kitchen appliance base rubber molding ($3, Home Depot), use the better stiffer quality style. The original factory part was 3/16" metal, about 32" long and bolted into the five bolt holes already there (part no longer available), it stuck out about 1.25". You need to allow enough clearance for the rear wheels and the slight 'wiggle' of the deck, I left it a little longer between the rear wheels (my tires are 12" wide). When I have to replace this, I'll use a 32" strip of cove edge cut to 3.0"wide plus a 16" piece of cove edge on top of that, centered, x full 4", with the curve down; five short carriage bolts with fender washers will hold it all on, as shown in photo. This reduced the grass blow-up to very very little, 2% at most, big improvement. This thin-cheap cove edge lasts about 2-years, would prefer a thicker rubber (like the belting at TSC). Good luck,
