6 pointsThis was my last custom build and since it was sold, I've been wanting to do another build but just haven't got around to it. Decided to do a copy of this build and the plan is to try and have it done for this years big show. The lowered front axle is done, welded some frame parts and collected most of parts needed. Had to buy new front fenders and will use a cut up old RJ hood I got from AMC Rules that came from Stevebo at the show a couple of years ago. Finally found a use for it! I'll try and post some build pics as it progresses. I do have another build in the works too but doubt both can be finished by the end of June

6 pointsPicked up a 2007 60th anniversary today woth 107 hrs. The story behind thi machine is a customer called me at the dealer 1 year ago andtold me he wanted to sell this exact serial number tractor that he bought new from us with a 48"deck and a 48" plow weights and chains . So I pulled up the sales slip he paid 6800 roughly out the door in 2008 . He told me he wanted 1800 ! At that time I was strapped for cash . So he ended up selling it to his neighbor at that time it had 40 hrs. Then the neighbors wife didn t like it then sold it to an older guy who then had a hard time getting his leg over the steering wheel used it for about 8 months. So I asked him for theserial he sends it toe I run it in our database come to find out its the se exact machine . So for now I have the 50th and 60th anniversary along with some others can't wait to get my new home Monday and line the garage with them.

I remember my first experience with an outboard motor was when my dad pulled an old 1955, 1.5 hp Evinrude out of the dump. I remember that he was so proud that he got it running. He tested it in a 55 gallon steel drum filled with water. I don't think he ever used it on a boat, and sold it to a friend for practically nothing.

4 pointsMy wife and I took off Saturday morning to go look at a D250. We came home with a D250 with loader and a parts D250. I've always wanted a D250 and finally got one! The one with the loader only had 380 hours and is in very good condition. Here are a few pictures:

4 pointsBoth 520H's washed and sunning themselves. The one on the right as sitting on the seat is the unit that started out as an early 90's. I got rid of all the column controls, added foot motion control, installed SW gauges, a Wheel horse steering wheel, Wheel horse logo on the engine etc. All Toro has been eliminated and early decals installed. I just noticed that I forgot to re-install the rear hubcaps. 520HC is nearly done, just need the hood and fender painted then final assembly can be done. Cleat

3 pointsBought this C195 with out a motor, I found a motor, put it in for a test run and it preformed great, then took out the motor and started a paint job. lots to take off yet. but here are a few pics so far. More pics Today I plumbed it for a 3-point, going to try and modify a D-3-point to fit!

2 pointsGreat to see such a big wheelhorse following here! I just got C-125 yesterday for cheap. Estate sale so the seller was clueless about the machine and he presumed it dead. I was able to fire her up with a jerry can fresh gas and a motorcycle battery. So far I'm very happy with this machine. That said, I'd like to get her mowing. The seller had a mower deck, but he was unsure if it went to this tractor or any info about how to hook it up. Has a number of 05-42MR01-34708 As you can see it has a single belt, but I'm unsure how to hook it up or if it can be hooked up. It seems like I would need another belt somewhere to attach to PTO. Any guidance, pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also, not sure if these are standard cut blades or custom wheelhorse or where to buy them, but they clearly need replacement.

2 pointsI was at my buddies farm and noticed in their scrap pile something red. Upon closer examination discovered it was a wheelhorse B-145 Elec-Trak. So he gave it to me. I haven't been on here in a while and know nothing about these machines. What's getting one of these operational like? Hate to see it sit. I use my GT-14 daily. I'm just happy it didn't go to the scrap pile. I will post a picture shortly.

2 pointsSo while I was waiting for paint to dry...I installed Matts Hydro Pedal kit...It was fun and I can't wait to get it adjusted and try it out. Unfortunately it WILL have to wait, as I have more cleaning and sanding and painting. I guess you folks already know what I am finding out. In my first attempt at a refurb....The deeper you go the more problems one encounters. Found a broken seat pan bracket and my 48" mower deck has severe metal fatigue and a crack that is not going to last the summer....But anyway a few pics of the pedals and my feeble attempt at painting. I hope to learn enough this year, so I can take it down to the frame next year. So that gives me a year to learn to weld and paint...

2 pointsI have been helping a friend of mine clean up some property and did some work on the work tractor a couple of weeks ago. While cleaning up, I peeked under a tarp in the back yard and this is what was under there. I brought it home today. Not sure what year it is so if anyone has any info, I'd appreciate it. So far seems to have an older rattle can paint job. Tires are original but rotten. Actually the seat and tires are the worst part of the whole tractor. Plans are to get it running and clean it up. I'll see what I have to work with after a good power washing. And the required pictures.

2 pointsEarly last year I learned that my grandparents were Wheel Horse dealers from 1966-1974. Since then I have devoted a lot of my time to researching the brand and beginning my own collection of Wheel Horse tractors. Since the time I learned of my grandparents connection to Wheel Horse, I thought it would be neat to find a tractor that they sold new. Last summer I got a lead and went to look at a tractor that was supposedly sold by my grandparents. The tractor was a nicely optioned 12 Automatic that the owner used primarily for plowing his driveway. Despite my attempts to purchase the tractor, the owner was not yet ready to sell. Last week he got in touch and told me that he just bought a new Toro zero turn mower and was now ready to part with the old tractor because he didn't have any more room in his garage. The only catch was that he wanted to keep the original snow plow that came with the tractor to mount on a newer 416 he had. Wanting to keep the tractor and plow together, I offered to trade him an NOS classic series snow plow for his tractor. Yesterday I went and picked up the tractor and today I bought a new battery and started working to clean it up a little. The tractor was used extensively and has a few repairs here and there, but overall is in good mechanical condition. This tractor still remains the only one I have come across so far from my grandparent's dealership. It was kind of special to return the tractor back to my grandparents store (where I work on some of my tractors) where it was sold new over 42 years ago. I plan on keeping the tractor as-is for now, but will eventually try to repaint it and at least give it a cosmetic restoration. Here is the tractor after I started cleaning it up. 2 pointsIt's pretty darn easy to recruit for and promote good things like this site. I'll be calling the owner, Mike, this afternoon. I did talk to my daughter, Heather, this morning and she understands why it's not a good choice for their needs. If you remember in another thread, her neighbor, Larry, has the 1976 C series that I bought new. I was up there a few months ago and posted some pictures of it. It's been beat up but still runs great. Larry was looking to sell it but hasn't yet and Heather said they may buy it and use it until I can get up there with my trailer to bring it down here. She told me that in her mind that will always be my tractor. Pretty cool. I think the best thing to do is to get Mike to join the forum and post his tractor himself keeping me out of it. That is, if he still wants to sell it. My conversation with him yesterday may have taken a tractor off the market but I don't think anybody here will complain. One thing he did say to me was that he'd never consider parting it out even though he knew he could get more $$ for it that way.

2 pointsYep, if you can not find parts...send a PM to Racinfool40 (Mike). Looks like you are correct. The bolt got caught under that small gear...that is your reverse idler. The spline shaft is worn where the reverse idler engages it. That washer is a "thrust washer"...very thin and probably is the victim of a chip from the bolt...it would have gotten caught under the large part of your 11 / 44 tooth gear. When you go to put it back together...the reverse idler should have the bevel end facing up. You want to change out those nuts on the differential bolts...nylon lock nuts. I would replace that spline shaft, reverse idler, one differential housing, all the seals and that bearing under the mushroom gear, and any others that may look suspect. Take a good look at all the gears. There are some guys that will advise you to put in hardened bolts in the differential...I don't like that idea...can you imagine the damage to your trans if one of those got loose in there??? Just my 2 cents. Nice pictures...thanks...it makes it much easier to help you out with those.

2 pointsI know y'all enjoy kids riding Wheel Horse tractors. After all, they are the future to keeping this hobby going. My grandchildren visited a few days ago and I was finally able to get some pictures of them on my favorite Wheel Horse tractor. This is the 1962 552 that by dad bought new when I was just six years old. It took me most past four years to restore which I converted into a model 502. My grandchildren Liam and Abigail enjoyed some seat time in the saddle for the first time. So, this would be the fourth generation in my family to ride this tractor. My grandson Liam is just about at the age I was when my dad bought this tractor new 53 years ago. So, here you go. I hope you enjoy these special pics of mine.

2 pointsThe current owner didn't know the decals were wrong as well as the PTO mods or that it may not be a 1045. It really doesn't matter though. I told him the folks here would catch everything and then some. I got him on the forum as we were talking and he was very surprised and impressed with the enthusiasm the folks here have for these great machines. I'll be talking to him again tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it.

2 pointsChuck, i watched the first video and realized that 12 minutes and 33 seconds was gone forever. i left this thread alone for a day or so....... then today i came back and refused to watch the hole drilling video, but the dc power supply peaked my interest just a little...... should have known better.... another 11 minutes of time wasted here...... I'm done with this thread as of right now, thats it, NO MORE..... maybe, until....... its like driving past a fatal car accident. now I'm wondering about the holes in sheet metal video.... Chuck!!!!

2 pointsI appreciate that Steve but I'm not getting it. My daughter up there was thinking about it but I think they'd be better off with something newer considering what they will be doing with it. They also need a low range. For me, I'd prefer something I could restore once I'm done with the Suburban. A 704 would really tweak my interest. The owner of this one, Mike, doesn't care if I show his number but I was thinking it might need to be in the classified section and then there's the issue of him not being a member but I am working on that. He worked at the Wheel Horse plant for 4-5 years when it was in South Bend but isn't really a collector. After our very long winded and enjoyable conversation he might have second thoughts about selling it. I told him I'd wait for the verdict as to what I can do on the forum and then call him again, probably tomorrow afternoon. He liked that because it gives him time to decide if he wants to keep it. I guess it was sorta like I transmitted the illness to him over the phone line. Thanks again Steve, you're the best

2 pointsWell, I've not managed to get much done this week due to a mixture of illness, visitors and having carpet fitted at home.. Both foot plates are now bolted down, I found some bike mounting brackets with captive nuts which came in handy and are much more fun to use than drilling through steel box.. This bit of box does not carry any weight and is only there to stop the top of the foot plates from vibrating.. I will add a little bit of bracing though. Here's something to make you laugh, it did me... I ordered some air filters which arrived yesterday... I may of got my sizes wrong! The hood stand has had a couple of bit's of box welded to it. Which along with a couple of hefty mounting brackets has put a lot of strength into it, no longer does it wobble when the steering is turned. The n/s foot plate has been fully welded and ground down.. I did for a while yesterday think about having foot gear change and a suicide clutch, but decided I'd rather have both hands on the wheel when the clutch is dropped at 9000rpm This is the mount for the suicide shift made for a bit of thick steel and a cut down bike swing arm bolt.. Shifter mounted and the linkage worked out, though you will have to wait until the linkage is done before you see it. The fender pan has been bolted down, but I thought a photo of 6 bolts would be boring so I didn't take a photo.. And to finish off this update, I needed to work out where the pedals would go so I climbed aboard, at which point Nigel wandered (not waddled ) in and grabbed my camera

1 pointI think that's she will be a worker. I have a snow plow that will fit so I think I will just put that on & leave it and pull the trailers around. I got it so cheap I couldn't leave it there. Wasn't sure what I would do with it but really liked it after using it today.

1 pointJust thought I would give an update. I have gotten the 4140 steel bar stock in for the axles, but have not made any progress on getting them machined yet. We do not have the correct cutter on hand so I will need to order one. Determining what I need may be the hardest step. I have been doing a lot of studying of splines and gears on the internet and have come to the conclusion that machinists are much more educated than myself. Learning is very interesting in that the more I learn, the more I realize how little I actually know. I would just ask my trainer, but he was busy and then I got sick for a couple of weeks. Anyway, I came up with a pitch diameter of 1.0625" which would give me a diametrical pitch of 16. Since there are 17 splines I think the tool # would be a 6. I also believe they are involute splines, but am not 100% certain of this either. I have not had any success at determining the pressure angle, even after several hours of reading articles and blogs. I am off this week and hopefully can get moving again on this project. Any insight or corrections are more than welcome. Thanks!

OH OH...Hawks just scored again while I was typing this...3 to 2 Hawks now...this all happened in 3 1/2 minutes into the 2nd period. Isn't Hockey supposed to be like Soccer...0 to 0...or 1 to 0. This is like watching Iowa play college football...how many games did they have that were 3 to 2???

1 pointI love this wheelhorse. I dragged a large fallen tree with ease... Now I have to make her farm worthy. Ok, so regarding the mower deck, it looks like I need a bunch of parts. I couldn't open any of the manual links and also searched online. I'm not sure what these things are or where to get them. I've heard here that I need a "tensionor pulley", a "double pulley", an "idler pulley" a "center pulley" and a "spring". I guess I also need a couple belts (one from PTO, and another on the deck). Anyways, not sure if I need 7 parts, or if they're called different things. I'm hoping it would be clear if I could look at a parts manual and know where to buy. Right now I'm a bit confused. That's ok. Awesome tractor and great support here so I'm willing to stick it out.

1 pointThanks Joe- the drive pulley is clean- the brake stops the transmission with a Disc brake on its side- but I think you are right, the belt puts pressure on the gears & they cant shift- The belt only has a belt guide to keep it in the pulley- I think I will try the silicone grease-Both Drive pulley & the belt are new, probably sticky- Thanks- Al

1 pointIs there rust on the drive pulley? It needs to be shiny so that the belt can slip. Also .... even though this doesn't sound right ... put a little silicone grease on the belt. Will stop the belt from sticking into the "V" of the pulley. And does the clutch pulley have a "belt clamp" to stop the belt ? It needs to be adjusted correctly. LMK, Joe

1 pointI've got a photographic memory but my problem is that I'm out of film so I research things to clear the cobwebs. In 1964 Wheel Horse shows two paint colors on their accessories price list. Red of course and ivory. I'm thinking Rustoleum linen beige was used by a lot of guys. I also saw that the headlight kit was a HL-22. The HL-5 came out in 1965. The bad thing about the HL-22 was that the lights required holes in the hood We all know the downside to looking at those old price lists.............

1 pointThought I would freshen up the paint But first I needed to repair the hood that a previous owner cut into. This is the way I got it. Made a repair patch. Welded it in.

1 pointI repowered my 520H with a Honda GX630 kit from Repower Specialists. Their kit is pricey, but includes all the parts necessary to convert, including wiring. Everything works as original except the tachometer. I used a mini tach to check the governor speed and don't mind missing the tach. The only thing necessary to do is a small welding job for the clutch bracket on the engine. They include an adapter mounting plate and a sleeve for the clutch to convert from the Honda 1" shaft to 1-1/8". We have run the Honda for two years without a problem. It took less than two days to convert. I was not completely happy with the supplied muffler, not having a heat shield, so I replaced it with a Honda muffler. I needed to trim the hood a bit for the fit, but it works better and is quieter. http://www.repowerspecialists.com/ Red
