7 pointsGreat to see such a big wheelhorse following here! I just got C-125 yesterday for cheap. Estate sale so the seller was clueless about the machine and he presumed it dead. I was able to fire her up with a jerry can fresh gas and a motorcycle battery. So far I'm very happy with this machine. That said, I'd like to get her mowing. The seller had a mower deck, but he was unsure if it went to this tractor or any info about how to hook it up. Has a number of 05-42MR01-34708 As you can see it has a single belt, but I'm unsure how to hook it up or if it can be hooked up. It seems like I would need another belt somewhere to attach to PTO. Any guidance, pics would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Also, not sure if these are standard cut blades or custom wheelhorse or where to buy them, but they clearly need replacement.

3 pointsLiquid Weight – keeps the weight exactly where it should be, low and close, plus it doesn't stick out, isn't seen and doesn't get in the way of changing tires. It can weigh (water = 8#/gal up to Rim-Guard = 11.5#/gal) and costs less than steel weights. Con– A puncture or leak in the tire can be a problem, dedicated tire, loaded tires are hard to move and mount. Solid Weight – is easy to move from tire to tire, lasts forever, keeps its value and is easy to add or subtract more weight. Con– Expensive usually, in way of lug nuts, may be unsightly. my 2¢ opinion, Glen Personally, I've got 3 tractors with loaded tires and really like them, and have found that weighted FRONT tires really make a big improvement. I especially like tri-ribs on the front with weight for much better steering and control.

2 pointsA trying NHL season has come to and end. But top pick has been secured! I haven't been to a hockey game in like 40 yrs. Back in the day of the Memorial Auditorium. I thought the game would be a wild one with the Sabres having nothing to lose by winning and Pittsburgh fighting for a playoff spot.but it wasn't. only penalty was Crosby for shoving the goalie Lindback and Lindback popping Crosby back. That happened early and nothing escalated after that. Best thing that happened was I got on the Jumbotron during the first intermission. The positives: Sellout crowd! Jumbotron 2 Zamboni's! 50 % off all Sabres shop goodies Pulled pork at Essex St. Pub! Crosby got blasted a few times Negatives; Not enough penalties no fights 3 players got hurt but 2 did return Too many Pittsburgh fans! subway trip down. The train was full in no time too many Penquins opening Face off Big hit! Zamboni's ! Empty net with 3 min to go Sabres thank the fans

2 pointsThose of you who've been following my resto thread of my lovely Brides' RJ tractor know that it was supposed to be a project we worked on together while I was recovering from surgery to my knee. Best of intentions, right? Lol Well, once the RJ was (after nearly 20 years) brought inside we became more motivated than we'd expected so as a result the dismantled tractor is now in the back of my '84 245 winter beater volvo wagon along with the nice original wheelhorse dump trailer Steve turned us on to yesterday, all waiting to head just 3 miles up the road for sandblasting then some sweet custom paint in memory of my former in-laws both of whom my Wife lost to cancer way too early in her adult life relationship with them. Had dropped the RJ's wheels and seat pan off at my friend Mike Showahs' shop in Danbury (CHEM-TRON PowderCoating and Industrial Painting) a couple few days ago, Steve popped the tires off the trailers' wheels yesterday for me and wouldn't you know Mikes' shop was the first place Wifey and I stopped on our way Home from the Surgical Center this morning? So, Mike has all six wheels which he'll be degreasing, sandblasting and PC'ing the brightest glossiest white he has. In the meantime, everything else awaits patiently in the 245 and here I sit in my temporary command center...

2 pointsMy daughter saw this for sale on the side of the road on her way home from work and sent me these pics. She wanted to know how similar to the Commando 800 I restored for my grandson (her son). It also has a very nice Wheel Horse dump cart but I can't post that pic until I hide the phone number on the for sale sign. From the pics it looks pretty darn nice. There are a few discrepancies but I don't see anything that's a big deal. Actually, my only question is if this belongs to anybody here. Oh yea, it's just outside of South Bend, IN.

2 pointsMy filled tires come out for winter use. I use one of those car wheel dollies to help mount ithem on the tractor. I jack it up, remove the summer tire and roll it into position with the dolly. I also have studs and lug nuts on all my tractors.

1 pointPicked up an 854 last week. This machine has hydro lift. Runs perfect. I think I am just gonna paint the wheels and call it a day. Are the wheels white of the almond color? Thanks for looking.

1 pointCould be a weak fuel pump. With the ethanol crap gas we have these days a clean carburetor and good fuel pump are essential for these engines. I have a 700 hour 500HC and I am on my third fuel pump.

1 pointI also think that liquid in the tires is less stressful on the gears and hydraulics of a hydrostatic transmission. Accelerating and braking the liquid can move and rotate unlike the "flywheel effeffect" of a solid weight.

1 pointRoger that, 'Sailor. Congratulations on your retirement! What a rewarding career, teaching. Looking forward to meeting some of you guys at the BIG show this year. GTG's with common-ground folks from different forums is an unbeatable way to spend some really good time. Squonk, great picture LOL! Just a few years ago I was in a wheelchair following surgery to my right foot and I couldn't shut off no matter how hard I tried. Ended up going back in and finishing wiring one of our laboratories I had rushed to rough the night before that surgery. Not that I no longer care, I'm just in a place where I'm better able to shut off or at least slow down and re-direct. Workers Comp tells my boss it'll be 6 weeks before they want me back to work. She laughed, knowing I can't make it THAT long but it's good to know I have the flexibility. Clear blue sunny skies and 75 here tomorrow, will migrate out onto the back porch for some sun and read the "Two-stroke Tuners Handbook". Porting a saw or two sounds pretty low-impact doesn't it?

1 pointMicheal Jorden, when he was playing for the Bulls, had knee surgery the same time I did. He was back playing with the Bulls in 2 weeks. I was home for 5 months...grafted some bone from one side to the other on my knee. Just trying to say it takes time, depending on what they did. Do the re-hab like they tell you...they know what they are talking about. I got a bunch of smoked meat books from the library when I was laid up...still trying some of those recipes.

1 pointTwo mower problems, which hopefuly will be a slam dunk for one of you. I have a deck on my 857 that has 2 minor challenges. The depth indicator has only one position (second from the front - 1-3/4) still readable. How much is each position, that is, is the forward one 1 1/2 for example? The second is this a good belt lenght? I tried a 30 in. belt and it was too tight (never disengaged) Went to a 31, which you can see is too loose? It does engage and runs the mower just fine, but wants to slip off. Is there a 30-1/2 and should I try that or just stay with 31? Since I replaced my original engine with a CH270 Kohler, dimensions are not stock any longer. One last thing, any guesses as to which model deck this is?

1 pointThanks for the info!!!! Now I remember there was a retainer on my old engine. I'll rig something up because it does want to throw the belt when disengaged. And the idler pulley does have an angle to help the belt stay put on the idler.

1 pointI suspect the angle bracket on the idler in the last picture should be at the rear so it captures the belt there so it can't leave the idler. Garry

1 pointLooks to be a RM-367 deck. 36 inch rear discharge. Same deck I have on my 867 tractor. Manual can be found on this site in the Manuals section. Belt looks a bit long, but if it works.....? Does it stay on the pulleys when not engaged? I believe the stock setup had a retainer on the engine pulley so it didn't come off when not engaged. 1 pointThat looks like a real nice machine and well kept. I kinda like the look of the plastic rear fenders myself.. Whatever you spent it was money well spent and it is totally worth getting the missing parts for the deck. That tractor will last a lifetime if taken care of. Take care of it and your son will be handing it down to his kids.

1 pointAl, personally I think it's all in what you'd prefer to do. Up north a friend brought me two solid chunks of steel (no hole in the center) just the right diameter to fit fully inside the rear wheels and about 5" thick. They weighed 88 lbs each and did a great job on my C-160. If I were to fill the tires I definitely would use tubes like you. Neil, those are some awesome weights. I've never seen weights like that before.

1 pointWelcome! 17hp series 2 are very good engines... assuming you keep oil in them! 350 is a pretty good price, but sounds like it might need some work. MAKE SURE its a series two for longest reliability, and try to be sure it was designed for a wheel horse. The manual PTO on wheel horses puts a high side-load on the crank so most engines were fitted specially to handle the side-load. Assuming there's no major damage your engine can be rebuilt, however, you would expect between $800-1800 depending on how bad it is and if you have a shop do it for you. The bonus to this is that you would have a practically new KT17 series 2 that will easily last 20+ years with proper maintenance. You can also swap in a kohler single if you want. They are usually only 3-600 for a rebuild and are available up to 16hp. Or if you can buy a kit to swap in a 23HP v-twin briggs, but that runs over $2k i think.

1 pointNew 141 x 1/2" drive belt arrived, with perfect gardening weather for next few days could not get it mounted quick enough! The belt is a tad long, so I had to off-set the vee belt pulley so the belt would not rub itself into destruction. Unfortunately I neglected to get a pic of how I off set the pulleys. In only a couple hours, I was able to till most of my 8k sqft home garden before I threw the belt. When it stopped and all I could see from drivers seat was the belt off the pulleys and on the ground, was sure I had destroyed it. After getting a closer look, no broken anything! Guess I was having such a good time tilling that I had the soil so deeply tilled the the tiller pulley was getting packed with soil. Was getting late, so I called it a day. Just a neat shot, sorry about the rotation and your sore neck Only problem here is I ran out of gas, when I returned found our small flock scooping up all the bugs the tiller turned up! None of these are great pics as the lens of my camera on the phone is scratched up pretty bad. Other side of tiller pulley is chrome shiny from being in contact with the soil. You can almost see the offset front pulley here, it's moved out about 3/4" so the belt does not rub itself into oblivion. Tiller was deeper then this, side sheet metal was at ground level. Soil felt like marshmallows, my boots were sinking a few inches with every step. Dan

1 pointThat's a Orginal fuel pump with the cast housing. When they get some wear the pivot pin for the pump lever will sometimes start a very slow leak as you have described.

1 pointI've always wanted a pressure washer and figured that the attachamatic on the front of the horse would make a great mounting point. I've been collecting parts for a few weeks and finally got a chance to put this together. Here is a shot of the mock-up with the pulley attached to the pump. The pump is 4.0 gpm at 4000 psi and the pulley size puts the engine rpms at 3000. I had an old mule drive that I had used the shaft and pulleys for another project. I added a few pieces of tubing and angle to mount the pump and a fancy "patented" tensioner. I removed the original tensioning screw and added a hook in the rear that locks the whole assembly rigidly to the attachamatic. It works. Now its all disassembled for some paint. It takes about 3 min to install and put on the belt.

1 pointHi All, Here is an update: Rear wheels, frame, toolbox, fenders sandblasted and primed. Seat front axle and and other small bits on the agenda today. Purchased 2 sets rear tires (1 turf and one AG) and 1 set of AG fronts. Also tore down tranny. I think everything is good in the tranny. Looks like someone was in it not too long ago. Any sugestions to make sure I don't need to replace any bearings? Still looking for hood stand and steering rod and 1 front wheel. If any one has these, please send me a PM. Here are some pics:
