3 pointsGuess I am a little late to the party. Sorry, I had some things going on this winter that may have kept me from being there this year. The path has cleared up (some good and some not so good) so Mrs Dino and I will be there again this year. Tuna...I will miss you at the show. I am looking forward to the show again.

2 pointsI volunteered to do some drywall repairs at a nephew's house the other day to pay it forward from when I was sick, he helped me mow my grass one time. He said he would pay me for the repair work and I said I would have none of that! He said fine and I went to work. He was remodeling his big living room. I repaired the drywall with no problems and went back 3 times to remud it and sand it down smooth. During the work he mentioned he was going to install new base boards but wasn't good at doing carpentry work. I am a carpenter so I volunteered to do the base boards in the room and the casing around two big windows. He said that was cool and mentioned if I would do that then he would just give me his old mower that he had in the garage since he knew I was a mower freak! My ears perked up! I asked what kind did he have and he said a old zero turn mower! I said I would like to see that, so we went out to his garage and under a ton of junk was his "old" zero turn mower. A Woods Mowing Machine with a 2 cylinder Kohler Engine with 605 hours on it! We took off all the junk piled on it and it was a sweet mower in great condition! New bar lug tires, new spindles on the gigantic 60 inch front mounted deck, new $300 drive shaft and a dead battery! He said it runs just needs a new battery put in it! He said he got tired of it breaking down so he bought a new Scagg zero turn for $8500.00! This Woods mower is about a $3000 to $4000 mower I figure! The mower deck lifts up in the front for easy cleaning and blade sharpening and maintenance! A very cool option that his new mower didn't even have! It even has head lights! This thing is a brute and it is about 7 feet long! I will clean off all the dirt and dust from it sitting unused for more than a year and it will look like a new one! I will do the carpentry work pretty soon and haul the Woods mower out of there asap! Kaching!

2 pointsIt has been such a long winter, I could care less if I ever again see another snow flake.. After a road trip today with Stevebo, when I got home it was in the mid 60's so I decided to take the blade, chains and weights off of the 314. I then figured what the heck so I woke all of them from their LONG winters nap. I'm sure most guys have seen them.. My son Cole ran all of them up and down the street a few times. Everything fired right up and they all ran perfect, one of em is a little sleeper... I'm ready for the first show.

2 pointsI worked out in the yard Saturday, it was fairly nice out but windy. I got my 1974 A-90 Special out and hooked up my vintage 1959 Tee Nee Trailer to haul some dead wood out of the yard and haul a ton of leaves away to the back 40. I was busting butt raking leaves and raking up the rocks in the yard around my driveway from my snow plow. Got a jump start on the yard work and got some seat time too! This long log was a monster to load and unload!
-
2 pointsSeals are cheap and easy. I would replace it and see what happens. Try moving the axle again in a couple months see if it is worse....

2 pointsI saw you hauling logs with it for 20 hours and pushing it to its max. Don't lie.

2 pointsI have that seat and love it. Very comfy and roomy. Love the arms to lean on. I've almost fallen asleep in that seat numerous times!! It bolts right on.

2 pointsYou guys are not going to believe this. You know how most of us have that lucky shirt, lucky hat, or your lucky bowling socks?? I would not think of going golfing without a bottle of Sheffield's Tawny Port in my golf bag and 2 glasses in me before I swing a club. Well, this is what is working for me in College Basketball..."Steve, don't watch the game." I tested this theory a few times this season, and it is working. I made the mistake of watching the Duke vs Michigan St. game last night...and the results were disastrous. While I did think that Michigan St. had run out their luck in having to play Duke...I didn't think the game would be that painful to watch. I then remembered my "Don't watch the game" statement and decided to record the Wisconsin vs Kentucky game and go to sleep. That is why I missed your call last night John. IT WORKED!!! I woke up about 4:00 this morning and watched the game. Here is a plus...I fast forwarded through all the commercials...it only took an hour to watch it. WOW...what a game!! Congratulations to Wisconsin. Looks like I will be recording the Championship Game tomorrow night. BTW...it will be a Cubs vs White Sox World Series in 2015. I need more Radon in my coffee. 1 pointI was doing some random Google searches this evening and found this nice woodruff key size chart and a pdf link to another one. I thought it might be of interest to all you members who are delving into these transmissions to repair them. It could help you identify what size new keys you need to replace. It's even Stevasaurus Approved! And the pdf link.. http://www.stdsteel.com/wk.pdf You can print this out to have on hand if you want also. I hope this will be of some help to you all. Jim

1 pointHi all, A while back i started a thread asking about the suitability of LED headlights for my A-800. I was in full swing with wiring them then I had 3 months with no tractor while it was at a friends workshop to help me with the exhaust. so I finally got it back and have really kicked off again. the LEDs are wired in and are really bright. At first I was unsure about the bright white light rather than the more yellow light from a filament bulb, but after testing I think the modern brightness contrasts nicely with the rustic old-ness!! I shall upload some more detailed shots and night testing tomorrow but for now here you are: nice old style lamps made by a company called Ring, not sure of the brand reputation but seem just fine to me. the LEDs are from eBay and labelled as 'Cree' 7W 12V LEDs. that's 7W for the two! LEDs are amazing: please excuse my rather shifty look! the photo, it was taken by surprise and it looks like i'm hot-wiring the tractor to steal it or something! lol the dog is Willow. the LEDs look quite unimpressive here but they are actually very bright: I shall explain and photograph the wiring and earthing methods tomorrow when i can get some good pictures. i hope you have enjoyed looking, Callum

1 pointWhat is the correct location for the id decal on an RJ58. I have seen them on the front left side on the frame also on the left side frame just in front of the motor. Where was it located when it was factory fresh. thanks.
-
1 pointHere's a couple of pictures of my RJ58, when I started the restoration and where I am as of a couple of days ago. A lot of things changed over the last 57 years. The trans was locked up and had to be rebuilt, the gas tank was the wrong one, steering wheel was in bad shape. The hood had 13 extra holes, the Kohler was shot, ect.ect . You get the idea. Thanks to the members of this forum for the help, it makes working with this old iron a lot easier. I hope to finish her in a couple weeks.

1 pointNIce score on the "Z" turn. Hey, I need a little trim work done around a couple of new doors, and I probably have a GT for payment!
-
1 pointJust found another listing on parts tree that supports that.....perfect! Order up! No you are right.....but wrong....lol......same picture but multiple variations. I'm gonna stick with two v's.....never had issues.

1 pointIf it were a differential bolt you should hear it once per revolution. This seems to be knocking many times per revolution, so I'm saying the bolt idea isn't it in this case. Given the knock frequency the mushroom gear or the intermediate cluster shaft are most likely. The input cluster and high/low gears are stationary in neutral, thus are not the culprit either. It appears that the brake drum is on the intermediate cluster shaft on that unit, the frequency sound about right for a one per rev knock from that shaft. Unbolt that drum and see if there's debris or a crack in it causing the knock. Perhaps try rolling it with the drum off and see if the knock is gone.

1 pointBrandon is right. The V7 is a vertical shaft lawn tractor. Most definitely go with the Raider 12.

1 pointi'd change the stuff like carburetor/throttle/exhaust/fuel tank/ air filter / dipstick/ mounting plate etc that is not right for your application and use it i believe that fuel tank with the long filler neck is for a Lawn Ranger

1 pointI tried a bit of cleanup usin' a Horse but like Hammerhead, too much mud here in PA. I did rake some till the back gave out, time for the backpack blower, Got a lot done. Dumped yards of modified stone from the quarry behind the barn. Want the Horses to stay a bit clean if at all possible. Doesn't look possible today. Thank goodness for all the woods out back, my branch 'n leaf depot.

1 pointAs promised, here are the more detailed shots of the wiring, the night time pictures will come later on sorry to keep you on the edge of your seat!! starting at the switch, this is a large toggle style switch with a 15A (can't quite remember) limit. I bent the lower tab to insure it wouldn't short on the dash. I then have a fuse in a fuse holder, I am using a 3A fuse for the LEDs, not sure where I'm going to mount the fuse holder just yet: the wire from the fuse then runs under the chassis (away from any movement) and pops out through a hole used to access the front axle greaser. the wire then goes into the bonnet where it splits via a piggy back spade connector to the two lights not sure how you can hold back the wires to look neater without drilling though the bonnet. any suggestions>> the lights are then earthed to the bonnet using their mounting bolts, I cleaned off the old paint and rust to insure a good connection. I used rubber grommets to avoid the metal rubbing through the wires the bonnet then has an earth strip running from the bolt that mounts the sheet metal to the hinge going to one of the engine mounts. this is to insure a good earth as the bonnet hinges are pretty loose at the best of times! might turn some nylon bushings using my lathe. and finally here is a shot of the dash board, looks totally original at some point i may add some dash lights that come on with the headlights (LEDs of course) so i hope you enjoyed plenty more pictures, stay tuned for the night time testing!! Callum

1 pointThanks guys. Another goofy thing I never saw before that you may find interesting. When I bought it, I noticed the hub was loose. Also, I saw red rtv silicone oozing out from the case so I know it's been apart already. When I pulled the hub, Another key way had been broached in the hub. They also cut another key way in the axle. The weird part was the key way cut in the axle was larger than the key way broached in the hub. Their quarter inch woodruff key was completely mangled from flopping around in there new cut key way in the axle. But the original key way in the axle looks perfect? I have no idea what they where trying to accomplish?! But they went through allot of work doing it. I'm picking up a new woodruff key tonight and plan to use the original key way. Using a good spare hub and some loctite and calling it a day.

1 pointThe last HH60-105047B Wheel Horse used was on the 1968 Commando 6 model 1-4631. The spec numbers always seem to decrease with age so HH60-105083F should be later. Garry

1 pointI think you are fine also...and you know the bearing is getting oil. It never was a Corvette, just the Cadillac.

1 pointThe motor is probably from a blower or tiller. The previous owner said it came off a wheel horse doesn't mean it was the original. Rebuild it keep looking for the perfect one.

1 pointIt Lives! It Lives! http://vid177.photobucket.com/albums/w224/sgtsampay/1975%20B100%20Auto/20150405_161137_zpssxuly27b.mp4 So today my amazing wife wished to spend a little time with me and wrap up this project. Well, we manage to attach the gas line, throttle cable, bolt down the engine, put on the pto system for the last time I hope, fill the crank case with fresh oil, and prime the engine. Then the magic happened and on the first pull it started to life. No smoke, no surging, nothing odd at all. Just a smooth running engine. It goes well trottle up and down and overall isn't load at all. Was very very pleased and hope to have many more hours with her. So now its time to measure and order a new belt for the drive system and mower deck. Then let them run. I will also try and mount a engine hour meter but that about it. I think its going to be a winner.

1 pointIt's been so pretty here in southern Indiana, and I was happy that on Holy Saturday we had dry weather and warmish temps. I was anxious to get the 401 out and hook up the new (Bolens) cart and give tractor rides! My daughter is the little blonde. He name is Autumn. She is holding our dog, Massey Maria Molina Margarita! The kids are my niece and nephew, Emma and Ben. We drove that little tractor through all of the neighborhood and enjoyed the fresh air and blooming trees. Happy Easter!
-
1 pointYour right about that...I feel sorry for anyone in this hobby in that area! Mike.........
-
1 pointKen- I agree with you that the hours on an hour meter is the "max' hours on a tractor. You are not the first and will not be the last.
-
1 pointNever to many projects if it's relayed to tractors, tractor equipment, shop, or garage. Honey dues can get out of hand real quick.
-
1 pointNot saying a Word!!! Just looking for more projects, like that will ever get done!! Still trying to clean garage
-
1 pointOk well I got it for 225 with a couple of other small tecumseh engines. Bad the rear end is locked up... good I have parts!!! Bad the h55 motor is locked up... 15 minutes and it runs. It needs work so expect some questions but right now I think I did good.
-
1 pointDoing carpentry work usually it's, "Measure twice, cut once" but; now you can measure twice and "cut" twice, once on the wood and once on the grass! Great nephew, and great deal.
-
1 pointXI fever will set in. Dont believe me,,,,,,,try one. Then you will have to own one. Now if someone could make a big square hood for the xi that looks like the hood on the 300 400 500 tractors,,,,,,man,,,,a stampede will start to own one. A great great machine. I notice more folks getting them. Glenn

1 pointHave you given Seafoam a try? If not, get a can of the spray carburetor cleaner, remove the air filter, run the engine at half throttle and spray into the air intake. Lots of smoke will come out, but by the time the can is half gone you should notice an improvement. Also, use some in the fuel tank as regular procedure. The process I have used to detect a bad throttle shaft is to put a couple of drops of gear oil around the shaft while running, it is thick enough to seal the gap without being sucked in. Let us know how you do, good luck.

1 pointYours might be the first HF twin cylinder repower here on RS! was it in stock at HF?, I have not seen one in person. Is it lining up with the PTO? more pictures! I'm sure a lot of folks might go this route

1 pointThat LSE is just downright unbelievable. I would almost go out on a limb to say that's maybe my most favorite WH of all time.
-
1 pointThanks for comments. Never had a garden this size, but newly acquired electro w/ plow and cultivator gave me a reason to do it. Now if I could just get my wife to do all the weeding.
-
1 pointNope...I am a one project at a time kind of guy...and sometimes, I forget which project that is. My goal...get to where I can watch paint dry. At the moment, I am refinishing an old oak kitchen table and chairs. Waiting for the Tongue Oil to dry now. Just came down to the Man Cave to check out Red Square and get a glass of Rock & Rye. I know...we love pictures. The last picture is the next project. The next project...

1 pointKen, This tractor has a 20hp Kawaski liquid cooled motor. Some came with a plastic cam gear and others were upgraded to a metal gear. I am not sure what this has nor do I care at the moment. If it breaks then I will change it..... This tractor has: Power Steering Cruise control Smart turn set up which means when you are cruising on a straight away if you begin to turn the tractor will automatically slow down before you turn and then when you come out of the turn it will automatically speed back up Foot control and of course.... a "cup" holder They same with a 44, 48, 52 or 60" deck.

1 pointAnybody order from J.C. Whitney lately? I wonder if they still have those Engine Overhaul Pellets available? I might need them if I run across a Horse with a Tecky!

-
1 pointLord willin' and Mrs. M is healthy, the cookie bars will be there.
-
1 pointThanks Bob for starting the countdown! Never too early to get ready. I'll be there and will have the smallest tent out there! Brining the Work Horse in order to add a little "Grey" to the sea of Red! now, should I take the plow off yet....
