It has been such a long winter, I could care less if I ever again see another snow flake.. After a road trip today with Stevebo, when I got home it was in the mid 60's so I decided to take the blade, chains and weights off of the 314. I then figured what the heck so I woke all of them from their LONG winters nap. I'm sure most guys have seen them.. My son Cole ran all of them up and down the street a few times. Everything fired right up and they all ran perfect, one of em is a little sleeper... I'm ready for the first show.

Got the old Electro 12 out today and threw the plow on the back. Just couldn't wait any longer to see if this old sway back could still pull. 90% of the plowed area was grass and pretty tough till I raised the plow a bit. Looks kind of ugly, but you gotta start somewhere.

Have you ever did something so stupid, that you looked around and wondered if you were on Candid Camera or Americas funniest Home Videos? Well I dug out a old C101 that I put in the dead line because the wiring harness just got so bad on it. I put the new harness on and could not get this thing to run. Oh it would start carry on throw a fit then die. Would not throttle up. Just a totall mess. As I was double checkering that I had everything on it's assigned post. I happen to notice that there was no condenser. Then it hit me I had robbed it last year. So I put a new on. It's amazing how well things run when they have all their parts as designed. How many years have I been doing this? The senior moments are coming in fast and hard. Geez.

Nope...I am a one project at a time kind of guy...and sometimes, I forget which project that is. My goal...get to where I can watch paint dry. At the moment, I am refinishing an old oak kitchen table and chairs. Waiting for the Tongue Oil to dry now. Just came down to the Man Cave to check out Red Square and get a glass of Rock & Rye. I know...we love pictures. The last picture is the next project. The next project...

Hey Gang! Not a diehard Wheel Horse guy, but was introduced to this awesome sight, and it's certainly worthy of joining. The single Wheel Horse I have is a mix match of gathered parts that would have otherwise probably been lost forever. I can't take credit for the frame and hood modifications, although the rest is me. Thanks to the powers that be for the membership and I'm looking forward to meeting you all. I hope some of you will join me on the journey that "Traitor" and I have embarked on. Cheers!! I go to the garage to work on something...I walk across the room to find something and I stop and look at something else, I mess with it and forgot what I was after in the 1st place. I go back and forth for hours working my butt off and not getting anything done! I am the poster child for ADD!

Thanks for comments. Never had a garden this size, but newly acquired electro w/ plow and cultivator gave me a reason to do it. Now if I could just get my wife to do all the weeding.

Just got some good news. Buddy of mines uncle has a front end loader that hes gonna sell to me for 200 bucks. May take a little modification to get it to fit my d250, but for that price i cant pass it up. Gonna pick it up next month. Ill post up some pics when i get it. If any of you on here have a d250 with a FEL i like to see some pictures.

I notice you didn't include a pic of the box it came in Jim! I was doing some work in the pharmacy and they have all these novelty signs all over the place. I saw that little sign and said, " I know the perfect guy for that sign!" so I snagged it. Then I needed a box for it and didn't want to be sending it in a giant box. I was walking past our supply room and they had a bunch of boxes out and I grabbed a box that I thought it would fit perfect in. I didn't realize it was a box for catheters until I got back to the shop. Even more perfect! Glad you enjoyed it Jim and hope you laugh as much as I did buying and shipping it!

You are all still cracking me up. In fact, while I was in the hospital a package arrived that a certain individual eluded to earlier in the thread. Mike, you have no idea how close I've been to this while reading here and being strapped to Agnes the IV pole, laughing and trying to get in the bathroom at the same time. This will be placed in my garage where I can see it easily keep you and everyone here close.

I have a D-160 and a D180 that both have 15" rims. The 160 came with turfs and the 180 came with ags, the 180's completely rotted about 4 yrs ago and I could not find a comparable ag replacement so I went with the skid steer type - theyre OK but I wasnt completely satisfied. This winter I have needed the 160 to do some rough/tough work and those worn turfs just wasnt getting it done. A while back I had reworked a 1054 and had found ags in a 7.60x15 size for it and while they fit, it was really close being 30" tall. Doing a quick measurement on the D's it looked like there just wasnt enough room... Well after fighting those turfs spinning at the least thing I took another look at those 7.60x15's ---- DUH!! I wasnt figuring from center of axle!, and using that measurement - 15" - looked a lot better fitting wise! So armed with a description of the tire "7.60-15 American Farmer Traction I-3 Farm Implement Tire" I hit ebay and promptly found several vendors. I finally settled on 2 tires with tubes for $220 plus $38 shipping They came yesterday and this morn I took and had them mounted ($30) so for a bit less than $300 Ive got me some bad a** tires. Here they are on my rather rough looking 160 - look can be decieving, that ole boy is a worker and mechanically sound. Again, they are 30" high (the turfs were 27")

Get ready for a "Salty Story."One morning at the lifeboat station I was assigned, a recent "boot" Fireman Apprentice was assigned the small boat checks. He checked the oil on a 30 footer with a GM 6-71 (love that sound!) and thought the oil was low. He added the amount he thought was needed! I double-checked his checks and found the oil level was now to the top of the dipstick tube! One time we asked the same guy to bring us a bucket of steam.

And my apologies for failing to acknowledge Tom (stratostar250) in this tire quest. If it wasn't for Tom being the NY to CT courier from Bearpaths place, the 310 would probably still be seeking bigger shoes.

You know...Scott (whfan74) is right...this is a great thread. I just went back and read the whole thing. Cried a little, laughed a ton...I want to thank all of you that have contributed and Prayed for our friend. Like Jim said, he has a long way to go to get through this...his journey is really just starting. I am proud to be a part of what goes on here at Red Square...all of you guys are the best...Thank You Please keep Jim in your thoughts and prayers...together we did and can make a difference.

Yes John, I got home last evening around 5:30. Not on the Horses yet Steve but looking forward to it at some point. Guys, I have to tell you that this will be a long process with several more rounds of treatment requiring hospital stays. I'm sure I'll have ups and downs along the way but for now things look pretty positive. They will be keeping me busy with frequent lab work every week and Doctor visits in between as needed. Everyone has been telling me that my color is good and that in fact I seem to be glowing. After those treatments they should see me at night!!

Hi, I am from Wheeling, WV and like all other sites you have to start at the bottom. I started out with a 310-8 then i had a 312-8 which was my favorite Work Horse. And have had a couple of more and not i have ended up with a SK-486 that my son is using. Also like other things companies merge or sell out and the consumers end up losing out when the costs of things go up and not the quality. You could not beat a Wheel Horse in the earlier years. Thank you for letting me ramble on.

I don't know how you guys go about restoring your horses, but I think I might be better off working on one at a time. Like I am sure most of you do. I seem to get three and sometimes four projects going at the same time. I work on one until I get to a point I have to wait for a part, search for a part, wait for paint or primer to dry and harden, etc. and I move over to another Wheel Horse project. Sometimes I even by a part off Ebay or someplace only to find that I already purchased that part earlier. Currently I am restoring a Tecky powered C-120 and a 400 Suburban at the same time. I can go from installing new piston, rod and rings one minute to painting a hood 10 minutes later. Meanwhile nothing around the house gets done because I'd rather work on something I enjoy rather than something that needs to be done. Anybody else have this sickness or is just me?

take the bowl off the carb, probably condensation in there from the ethanol fuel it will actually raise the float level and cause it to flood, i surmise that how it happen don't know for sure, but i know that i have fixed my neighbor's B 80 several time for same symptoms by doing this. first time i pulled the carb all the way off but after that i got smart and just drop the bowl and fixed it that way. clean the inside of the bowl and careful of the bowl gasket and make sure you start the bolt back in the carb straight. i bought a 312 one time that somebody did that to almost had to buy a new carb. good luck eric j

I don't like the look of the high back seats either. I see some that look like they bolted a recliner on the rear fender pan. The "surplus seat" really isn't any higher than a factory high back seat from Wheel Horse, it's actually a little shorter than the factory 520 seat, not by a lot but it was noticable.

I repowered my 520H with a Honda GX630 kit from Repower Specialists. Their kit is pricey, but includes all the parts necessary to convert, including wiring. Everything works as original except the tachometer. I used a mini tach to check the governor speed and don't mind missing the tach. The only thing necessary to do is a small welding job for the clutch bracket on the engine. They include an adapter mounting plate and a sleeve for the clutch to convert from the Honda 1" shaft to 1-1/8". We have run the Honda for two years without a problem. It took less than two days to convert. I was not completely happy with the supplied muffler, not having a heat shield, so I replaced it with a Honda muffler. I needed to trim the hood a bit for the fit, but it works better and is quieter. http://www.repowerspecialists.com/ Red

We picked up about 7 inches of very heavy wet snow today. So much in fact that they had to shut down nearby Interstate 80 for about a 40 mile stretch. It just dumped snow for hours over Southern Clinton County! And you know what..................I didn't get one tractor out! Notta! Know why? Cause I don't give a damn anymore about snow! I have had way too much seat time plowing, blowing and scoop n dumping! Nope! I shoveled 10 feet of sidewalk from the porch to the garage! Didn't even put the truck away tonight! Didn't want to drown the garage again with melting snow! March came in like a lion and left like a T-Rex in menopause! Tomorrow is April fools day! It's a new month and maybe, just maybe.......................I'll see something other than white in my yard! Hell I may even grease a mower deck or two. Even sharpen those thingys that spin under them that cuts the stuff that used to stick up and grow green in my glacier, I mean yard! AAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

The red sure does look better than the white but getting that original patina hood on there would be right. I am partial to original patina but the other half of the members would say repaint the entire tractor Either way I love the 953/1054's !! My favorite tractor show driver.

Very nice Wonder why they repainted the hood only? There is a nice original patina hood for a 953 or 1054 on ebay right now. You may want to check that out and bring that machine back to it's original work clothes.

Not saying it is the problem but one thing when I worked at a shop in Bloomington Illinois I found out that the transition year between Toro and Wheel Horse somebody at the South Bend factory put the gifts together and not tightened the bolts would let loose that holds the two halves of the differential and start working out they would knock till the nut fell off then slide out far enough to lock the whole rear end. just a suggestion

I think one at a time is good but I seem to go with a few. I used to focus only on one project and get it done quickly then start on another. I seem to be slowing down a bit and find I am working on a few at a time. A lot has to do with room to work. I am fortunate that I now have more room. It allows me to take my time finding used parts etc.

I am the same way. I get started on one thing and then I see something I went out to work on before and.... Hold on... Be right back...

There is a lesson to be learned here...I think? Seemed like the proper thing to say.

Just when I make progress on one project, I find another project I just HAVE to buy.

Before I would pronounce the engine dead, I would take the heads off and turn it over by hand. If the valve seats are all secure and the pistons and valves move properly then the internals are probably fine. The typical internal failures are loose valve seats and broken rods. If the engine was not smoking before it stopped running and if the oil has been changed on a regular basis the pistons, rings, and cylinder walls should be fine. I would then determine if there is a fuel delivery or electrical problem. We can walk you through the trouble shooting procedures if you were interested in doing that.

Probably in the $18.00 to $20.00 range. I'm just waiting for everything to arrive so that I can get a weight for calculating postage. EDIT: I got the bolts in today, and the lug nuts will be here soon, but I did have enough to get a weight. Seems that the postage rates have really gone up since the last time I sold them. The cheapest rate is USPS Priority Small Flat Rate box. My cost is $5.25. So, I am going to price them at $17.50 plus $5.25 S&H. However, if you are interested in more than one kit, I can get up to 5 kits in one box. I will have them at the WHCC show in June. No shipping cost if you pick them up there.

Yep this 70+ year old manure spreader is still able to fertilize the strawberry beds in preparation for the new plants. The blackberry plants also get their share.

I think they should bottle Red Square...it is the best medicine there is Mate. $1.00 and bottle...cures everything...put it on the shelf next to your bottle of Sea Foam.

Amen to your nurse comments Jim -- Take an extended stay in a hospital and you figure out real quick who keeps things going for you as a patient -- And they can give you all sorts of helpful hints and clues about making your time go better

Our next bit of a chuckle came two days later when the housekeeper changed the paper towel roll in the auto dispenser. They brought some self fold towels for me. That was fine but it occurred to me I could fix it if I could get it open, but no screwdriver I was sunk. It's been out all week, till now. I found fingernail clipped in the drawer and bingo!!! Works now. They are trying to talk me nitpicking out of retirement. Can ya believe that? Uh huh, me either. lol I must say again here that I'm in a very renowned hospital being cared for by highly skilled Doctors, and Nurses. These Nurses surely are the most dedicated, caring and compassionate people you could ask for. They are the backbone of seeing to your every need and carry out the Doctors orders to a T. May you never need a Nurse but rest assured they will be there when you do. Later some yucks about food service. These folks are a riot.
