Nope...I am a one project at a time kind of guy...and sometimes, I forget which project that is. My goal...get to where I can watch paint dry. At the moment, I am refinishing an old oak kitchen table and chairs. Waiting for the Tongue Oil to dry now. Just came down to the Man Cave to check out Red Square and get a glass of Rock & Rye. I know...we love pictures. The last picture is the next project. The next project...

Pick up a nice Wheel horse 1054 today from a Canada fellow today. Runs nice and comes with a nice plow. The tractor doesn't need much just a good tune up and probably going to use this one as a worker. I will have to order headlight lenses from glen actually make that 2 set since I have two 1054s now. Are these becoming rare tractors now?

I got the 1958 out of the garage yesterday. Changed spark plug, started her up and cleaned her good for the 2015 show hauling season! My red Nestle creamer caps are still going strong after three years!

You know...Scott (whfan74) is right...this is a great thread. I just went back and read the whole thing. Cried a little, laughed a ton...I want to thank all of you that have contributed and Prayed for our friend. Like Jim said, he has a long way to go to get through this...his journey is really just starting. I am proud to be a part of what goes on here at Red Square...all of you guys are the best...Thank You Please keep Jim in your thoughts and prayers...together we did and can make a difference.

Just came back from buying dog food at TSC, along with a few things for me, and I see the banner for our local tractor show in 1-1/2 weeks! At this point I only have one WH and two Bee Hinds to display. It's the time of year to start cleaning up the property from the two fallen trees over winter and get the lawn revitalized before the weather turns hot and there are too many bugs. Siiting on the "bench" to complete is my MW Chor Trac that only needs to be reassembled, a Gravely that I rewired but haven't finished, and getting into "lawn mode" with oil changes. I normally have about two projects on at a time. There is also the deal that I cut with my wife last weekend that I would clean "a room a day" in the house. Trouble is - I'm four days in arrears already!

Glad you made it back home Jim! Nothing better than resting in the comforts of your own home. Thoughts and prayers are still with you! This thread has been a great one......this is what it is all about. Know that you aren't alone Jim........we are here for ya!

Let's see....... Tile the closet, tear out and refurbish master bath, cabinets in the utility room, tile daughters room and both spare bedrooms, rescreen back porch, rebuild deck,somehow keep up with yard in between everything else, oh yeah, work on the tractors too. I'm amazed I get anything completed. Got to go out and finish the dresser/shoe rack for the wife..........

Yes John, I got home last evening around 5:30. Not on the Horses yet Steve but looking forward to it at some point. Guys, I have to tell you that this will be a long process with several more rounds of treatment requiring hospital stays. I'm sure I'll have ups and downs along the way but for now things look pretty positive. They will be keeping me busy with frequent lab work every week and Doctor visits in between as needed. Everyone has been telling me that my color is good and that in fact I seem to be glowing. After those treatments they should see me at night!!

I don't know how you guys go about restoring your horses, but I think I might be better off working on one at a time. Like I am sure most of you do. I seem to get three and sometimes four projects going at the same time. I work on one until I get to a point I have to wait for a part, search for a part, wait for paint or primer to dry and harden, etc. and I move over to another Wheel Horse project. Sometimes I even by a part off Ebay or someplace only to find that I already purchased that part earlier. Currently I am restoring a Tecky powered C-120 and a 400 Suburban at the same time. I can go from installing new piston, rod and rings one minute to painting a hood 10 minutes later. Meanwhile nothing around the house gets done because I'd rather work on something I enjoy rather than something that needs to be done. Anybody else have this sickness or is just me?

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I am no stranger to Toro products (my dad only purchased Toro lawnmowers). I find myself looking to purchase my first tractor. While searching the classifieds I came across this Wheel Horse.... Craigslist ad deleted per forum rules I like that the price is in my budget, I like the apparent condition and I like that it is a reputable brand. I also like that it is an older tractor, I feel there is a level of quality not present in today's Home Depot special. I have found some basic information through online searches but I want to get more information from guys like you before I reach out to the seller. Is it a good price, how reliable is this model considering it is nearly 30 years old, what attachments were available that I can be on the lookout for, is this a pto model and how does it work, etc? Anything else you can contribute to help in my decision is greatly appreciated. Thank you! Sorry about the forum rule error!

I go to the garage to work on something...I walk across the room to find something and I stop and look at something else, I mess with it and forgot what I was after in the 1st place. I go back and forth for hours working my butt off and not getting anything done! I am the poster child for ADD!

I have a D-160 and a D180 that both have 15" rims. The 160 came with turfs and the 180 came with ags, the 180's completely rotted about 4 yrs ago and I could not find a comparable ag replacement so I went with the skid steer type - theyre OK but I wasnt completely satisfied. This winter I have needed the 160 to do some rough/tough work and those worn turfs just wasnt getting it done. A while back I had reworked a 1054 and had found ags in a 7.60x15 size for it and while they fit, it was really close being 30" tall. Doing a quick measurement on the D's it looked like there just wasnt enough room... Well after fighting those turfs spinning at the least thing I took another look at those 7.60x15's ---- DUH!! I wasnt figuring from center of axle!, and using that measurement - 15" - looked a lot better fitting wise! So armed with a description of the tire "7.60-15 American Farmer Traction I-3 Farm Implement Tire" I hit ebay and promptly found several vendors. I finally settled on 2 tires with tubes for $220 plus $38 shipping They came yesterday and this morn I took and had them mounted ($30) so for a bit less than $300 Ive got me some bad a** tires. Here they are on my rather rough looking 160 - look can be decieving, that ole boy is a worker and mechanically sound. Again, they are 30" high (the turfs were 27")

Do you have the Airhorn off the carburetor on the air filter side if you don't the gasket between ken Block the bowl vent and cause what you have going on ran into that once on a 400 John Deere with 532 engine like to pull my hair out two days spell check messed up some of the last post. the gasket between the air cleaner in of the carburetor and the air filter housing is the one I am talking about. one small hole in that flange of the carburetor is the bowl vent multiple gaskets will fit the screw pattern but some block the vent

Ponder check your Pm's I sent you my number to call me....Are you sure it's 1" axles....all the info I have says they were 1-1/8th axle in the 416-8's..need some othe rinfo from you to be sure I have the right one.....we had a problem here before with the 1533 bearing...will need to know if yours has the 1533 bearing or the newer 111199 bearing.

Great looking tractor Shawn. I absolutely like the idea of a gear drive , hydro lift tractor with big wheels. The1054's are neater than the GT14' s in my opinion. Keep up the good work! Against my better judgement, I may have to start to be on the look out for one!

Well I guess it feels good to know I am not the only member of this club. What bothers me the most is, this is not the first case of a brain fart and what scares me the most is, it will happen again! When and where who knows when the stupids will happen, but it will happen. Because there is no fix for it I am aware of.

The guys get together on Wednesday every week. We take turns bringing snacks. Tonight my turn. Tamales on the old hard hat heater But I did get the blower off the 520 changed oil cleaned filter washed the prefilter. And then on to the Hustler 275. Had to pull the starter and get a rebuild. Not a fun job but got tired of hot wiring to start it. Ok about out of beer time to head in.

I've done a couple repowers with the predator motors and had to remove the gas tanks and I make a plate to go across were the gas tank would of set so the air from the flywheel still goes across the motor like it should and I think it makes it look better Pic

i'm sure we've never seen things that shouldn't happen but some how managed to do so pm martin and find out more info on the harley coil if you don't have access to a used onan coil. think some were i remember a price of around $ 30.00 which is a lot less then a new onan. you need to make sure your replacement coil fires both side at the same time. good luck and keep us posted on progress eric j

Chris, Steve mentioned the low hours on this machine... Are you certain it really only has 575 hours, or could it actually be much higher? It certainly looks clean, but it is close to 30 years old, that's less than 20 hours a year. Is it possible the hour meter isn't working properly, or didn't work for a period of time? You mentioned it being dealer maintained (always?), but do you know how this tractor was used in the past? These transmissions are really tough, I'm just looking for something that might explain what actually caused the noises you're hearing. If you're on good terms with the guy you bought it from, you might consider giving him a call and picking his brain a bit.

So I paid for the tractor and left it there till two days ago when the snow finally melted enough for me to drag it out of its rested place and to my trailer for travel to it's newest home. During the month waiting for it to thaw out I took the engine block to a machine shop to have measured. It's a std bore and needed to be bored to .20 over in order to be rebuilt since the bore had a nice amount of rusted. The crank also needed to be under sized as it two was rusted and scored from the rod damage. I looked up the cost for all new parts plus machine work and had an estimate of around $550. I felt this was a bit much for my budget so I parted out the engine on flee bay and made a little money to pay for the tractor and a good condition 36in RD deck to go along with the build. The engine I looked around and found this 13hp Predetor engine from Harbor Frieght on sale with a 20% off coupon for about $289. I then got an extended warrenty on it should anything go south with the engine for a few dollars more. I fully understand this is a clone chinese engine, however I feel its not a bad route to try and try i will. The engine came in the mail about a week ago. It came in a large box with plywood bolted to it base and top for extra support during shipped. The engine seems to be in good shape, with no dents in it. Also all of the bolt on the engine have blue marker dots on them from the factory. I did test the torque of a couple bolts to insure proper torque and they all checked out fine. I also read on the web that some of the engine come from the factory with the wrong valve clearances. So I popped open the valve cover and the spark plug out, placed the engine to TDC and check the valves. Sure enough they were way to tight. I set them to the factory specs and turn the engine by hand over to ensure my measurements. I was right on the money. These engine come shipped with no oil in the cranks so I this is why I bought the cheap 10w-30. Since its a new engine it has to be broken in in a special way according to the manual. It states the engine should be ran at about 1/2 to 2/3 trottle with no load for 3 hours. Then run the engine normally for the remainder 17 hours and change the oil. After this the rings should be broken in and the oil just changed every 20 hours after. Since I like to use synthetic oils I will put this motor on a diet of Mobil 1 10w-30 oil after the break in period and in the mean time use dino cheap oil to help with the breakin. I will also go one step further and change the oil twice during the 20hr period in the beginning, once after the first 3 hours incase there are some metal shavings and then 17 hours later. Both of these oil changes with be with the same oil. After all of this the motor should be good for many hours to come. The motor placed in the tractor for looks. I think some work will be needed here: I also picked up a sleave for the crank to turn it to 1 1/8th so I can reuse the old PTO hardware.

I got a 310-8 for mowing duty at the rental. This will be my second year with it.... Very happy with it.... I do enjoy the smoother ride with my 416-8 than the 310-8 with the smaller tires. My back can tell a difference. The only reason I haven't gone bigger tires is because the 37" deck cuts great and leaves a nice finish look.... And going to a bigger deck for bigger tires would only take away seat time on it.... lol..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So at this point, it was dark out and I am working on this thing in my corn crib. For all you non-farm folks, that is a building similar to a machine shed but one of the sides is sided with horizontal lumber that skips every other board. They did this to store and dry ear corn with in the old days. Well, mine is where I keep and work on this project at. It was COLD and the breeze was coming right through those missing board segments! I kept thinking how great it would be to have a heated and well lit shop!!! But I kept plugging along and got this far.

Well I made some more progress in the last couple of weeks. The fender pan was badly cracked under where the seat mounts and the mount bracket was almost broke clean off but after a lot of finessing its usable again. Not so pretty under the seat but it will be covered. lol The hood was UUUUUUGLY, spent over 30 hours fixin it. There is still three very small dents in the seam at the front I couldn't get out. looks like someone was usin it for a battering ram. If I was closer to the parts supply I would have trashed it in a heartbeat, at least it was only my time and not a lot of money. Had to put front tires off my 70 raider on for now cause its getting heavy enough that it was startin to get tippy on that single front jack stand Im gonna have to get my tires on order soon and get the front rims bead blasted and painted. Next job I think is to make a wiring harness since he original one was non-existent.

I've had so many problems getting these plugs out that I replace them with a standard square head 1/8 inch pipe plug.I also put Teflon tape on the threads before it goes back in.At least next time it has to come out you have a fighting chance.

I bought 2 of these at Princess Auto. TSC also carries them. I was able to buy armrests for them as well on ebay. They are very comfortable and have a good metal pan. I had to make up adapter plates however because the bolt pattern is not right for my 520's at least. I will be getting another one for the HC whenever they go on sale. Cleat
