Nope...I am a one project at a time kind of guy...and sometimes, I forget which project that is. My goal...get to where I can watch paint dry. At the moment, I am refinishing an old oak kitchen table and chairs. Waiting for the Tongue Oil to dry now. Just came down to the Man Cave to check out Red Square and get a glass of Rock & Rye. I know...we love pictures. The last picture is the next project. The next project...

Pick up a nice Wheel horse 1054 today from a Canada fellow today. Runs nice and comes with a nice plow. The tractor doesn't need much just a good tune up and probably going to use this one as a worker. I will have to order headlight lenses from glen actually make that 2 set since I have two 1054s now. Are these becoming rare tractors now?

I got the 1958 out of the garage yesterday. Changed spark plug, started her up and cleaned her good for the 2015 show hauling season! My red Nestle creamer caps are still going strong after three years!

You know...Scott (whfan74) is right...this is a great thread. I just went back and read the whole thing. Cried a little, laughed a ton...I want to thank all of you that have contributed and Prayed for our friend. Like Jim said, he has a long way to go to get through this...his journey is really just starting. I am proud to be a part of what goes on here at Red Square...all of you guys are the best...Thank You Please keep Jim in your thoughts and prayers...together we did and can make a difference.

Just came back from buying dog food at TSC, along with a few things for me, and I see the banner for our local tractor show in 1-1/2 weeks! At this point I only have one WH and two Bee Hinds to display. It's the time of year to start cleaning up the property from the two fallen trees over winter and get the lawn revitalized before the weather turns hot and there are too many bugs. Siiting on the "bench" to complete is my MW Chor Trac that only needs to be reassembled, a Gravely that I rewired but haven't finished, and getting into "lawn mode" with oil changes. I normally have about two projects on at a time. There is also the deal that I cut with my wife last weekend that I would clean "a room a day" in the house. Trouble is - I'm four days in arrears already!

Glad you made it back home Jim! Nothing better than resting in the comforts of your own home. Thoughts and prayers are still with you! This thread has been a great one......this is what it is all about. Know that you aren't alone Jim........we are here for ya!

Let's see....... Tile the closet, tear out and refurbish master bath, cabinets in the utility room, tile daughters room and both spare bedrooms, rescreen back porch, rebuild deck,somehow keep up with yard in between everything else, oh yeah, work on the tractors too. I'm amazed I get anything completed. Got to go out and finish the dresser/shoe rack for the wife..........

Yes John, I got home last evening around 5:30. Not on the Horses yet Steve but looking forward to it at some point. Guys, I have to tell you that this will be a long process with several more rounds of treatment requiring hospital stays. I'm sure I'll have ups and downs along the way but for now things look pretty positive. They will be keeping me busy with frequent lab work every week and Doctor visits in between as needed. Everyone has been telling me that my color is good and that in fact I seem to be glowing. After those treatments they should see me at night!!

I don't know how you guys go about restoring your horses, but I think I might be better off working on one at a time. Like I am sure most of you do. I seem to get three and sometimes four projects going at the same time. I work on one until I get to a point I have to wait for a part, search for a part, wait for paint or primer to dry and harden, etc. and I move over to another Wheel Horse project. Sometimes I even by a part off Ebay or someplace only to find that I already purchased that part earlier. Currently I am restoring a Tecky powered C-120 and a 400 Suburban at the same time. I can go from installing new piston, rod and rings one minute to painting a hood 10 minutes later. Meanwhile nothing around the house gets done because I'd rather work on something I enjoy rather than something that needs to be done. Anybody else have this sickness or is just me?

Hello everyone. This is my first post. I am no stranger to Toro products (my dad only purchased Toro lawnmowers). I find myself looking to purchase my first tractor. While searching the classifieds I came across this Wheel Horse.... Craigslist ad deleted per forum rules I like that the price is in my budget, I like the apparent condition and I like that it is a reputable brand. I also like that it is an older tractor, I feel there is a level of quality not present in today's Home Depot special. I have found some basic information through online searches but I want to get more information from guys like you before I reach out to the seller. Is it a good price, how reliable is this model considering it is nearly 30 years old, what attachments were available that I can be on the lookout for, is this a pto model and how does it work, etc? Anything else you can contribute to help in my decision is greatly appreciated. Thank you! Sorry about the forum rule error!

I go to the garage to work on something...I walk across the room to find something and I stop and look at something else, I mess with it and forgot what I was after in the 1st place. I go back and forth for hours working my butt off and not getting anything done! I am the poster child for ADD!

I bought an older 40 inch Mid-Mount Grader Blade several months ago and also bought a lift link from one of the Red Square members that was making the early model lift link (#5678). I finally got around to installing it on the 314 Wheel Horse after I had removed my snowplow. The Mid-Mount Grader Blade attached fine on the front attach-a-matic but I was not really sure how the lift link was to be installed and which hole in the rock shaft on the 314 needed to be used to give the lift link the ability to have downward pressure with the lift handle. I finally realized it need to attach to the third hole in the upper rock shaft lift (the same hole the trunion for the chain link the holds up the T bar used to lift the mower decks). Easy to access thru the front panel on the 314 justy remove the two Phillips head machine screws and remove the trunion pin and install lift link for the Mid-Mount Grader Blade. My grader blade also has a nice feature that a previous owner installed - a welded steel plate/tab with hole for a hitch pin to place it in the rear slot hitch of a Wheel Horse . Here are some pics of this on the tractor.

There were 3 transmission models used in the 416-8 models and all three have 1-1/8" axles. Has this transmission been replaced previously to get the 1" axles and if so with which one? Model 5086 Model 110996 I did not compare these 2 to see if the cases are the same. Garry

Ponder check your Pm's I sent you my number to call me....Are you sure it's 1" axles....all the info I have says they were 1-1/8th axle in the 416-8's..need some othe rinfo from you to be sure I have the right one.....we had a problem here before with the 1533 bearing...will need to know if yours has the 1533 bearing or the newer 111199 bearing.

Make sure you tell him you have a 4pinion with 1" axles...although an 8pinion with 1 1/8" axles should bolt right on. He might just have one of those case halves. DO NOT BUY THE SIDE CASE NEW FOR THAT PRICE!!! Sorry for shouting there. You can probably get another horse for that money.

The to-do list is long but, changed oil, one Horse at a time. New fuel filters, one at a time the Stallions all have new ones. I do need a 12" deck, "Honest Hon, I'll fix the leaky faucet just as soon as I'm done mowin' the lawn."

I hand out 25 to 50 sets of these every year at shows and swap meets to willing takers! It is a great conversation ice breaker -as if I need one! My wife and I are addicted to the Hazelnut Nestle Creamer and I hate to throw these away! The cap has an inner ring of plastic that is a little wider than the Wheel Horse wheel hubs but I use a thin packing foam to fill the gap. A thin strip of packing foam cut one inch wide and eight to ten inches long. Wrap the foam inside the inner ring then install the cap with a twist on the hub. The foam, grease fitting and tightened twist keeps the cap on the hub. My RJ had then on for 2 and a half years until we had to take them off to fit two RJ's nest to each other on a U Haul trailer we took the the Big Wheel Horse Show in Pennsylvania last June! They look nice and do the job. As one old guy said at a show -you can even open the cap Lane and grease them ! If I am at a show or swap meet make sure to ask me for a free set!

That surplus center seat is the most comfy I ever sat on. I got 6 yrs. on it now and not a blemish on it.

Those rear tires are probably 27 x 8:50 x 15 Goodyear tires that were original to the 1965 1054-A Wheel Horse tractors. I have one tractor with them on it. I also have a brand new never installed set on wheels in my basement for replacement. The tread is different from a regular 15 inch car tire. But as several folks mentioned a 15 inch car tire will work on these 15 wheels used on the 953/1054 and GT 14 tractors that have 15 inch wheels.

I've heard of people installing car tires on them. Nothing wrong with that!

i'm sure we've never seen things that shouldn't happen but some how managed to do so pm martin and find out more info on the harley coil if you don't have access to a used onan coil. think some were i remember a price of around $ 30.00 which is a lot less then a new onan. you need to make sure your replacement coil fires both side at the same time. good luck and keep us posted on progress eric j

Thanks to Bearpath, I was able to get 23x10.5 rears on 520 rims and 8" wheels for the front with the shorter spindles. The rears cleaned up mint. They need a light scuff and some fresh paint which will happen before the weeks over. I wanted to test fit them though. So much better imo. I gave the fronts a blast and quick prime. Added a little cheese to knock out a few minor pitts too. Jason hooked me up with a sweet set of Carlisle turfs for the fronts too. Slowly but surely the 310 is coming along.

Update: So i did a little work in the garage and here is what happened: First I took my grease gun and completely greased the steering set-up. Its all moves nice and smooth now and I also raised the steering shaft collar a hair to firm up the steering wheel. Then I removed the old wiring and gauges. Since the new motor has all of this self contained in a nice little box, I stripped the tractor down to just the throttle cable. I then took the choke handle and put it on the throttle lever shaft so I can grip it better. I then placed the new non bypass Wix filter onto the tranny. I still have to get a new drain plug before i fell the case up with Mobile 1 syn but I'm getting there. Now the best part of the day was me getting a little closer to figuring out how to mount the engine. Well I did some removing of the engine gas tank along with the electrical box down. I also removed the battery box on the tractor and this allowed me to move the whole engine in more and the hood now completely closes and the tractor hoop I think will work fine with an idea I have cooking. I finally used my impact and removed the blades off the deck. I then used the flap disk on my mini grinder to remove all of the rust from the blades. I then sharpened them and painted them black. While waiting for the paint to dry I used my wire brush and removed all of the old grass clipping from the deck. No rust holes! Yeah. I also took the air compressor and blew out all of the old grass and mud from inside the baffles. They are much cleaner now. Lol. To top it all off I lightly coated the whole deck with some used motor oil. I heard from lawnsite that some of the pro do this to help down the rust on their decks and such. I don't know but will find out. Well, that all for now. Hopefully this weekend some magic will happen with that motor. Hint, hint.

Racinbob, the deck is sorta cocked at an angle, so sitting on the tractor the left side would hit the front tire turning is what I have read. This pic is off google, so I didn't have to go across town to the rental to get a pic to show.... So if you imagine the tractor on the hanger, you can see the deck is sorta cocked..... I bought 2 of these at Princess Auto. TSC also carries them. I was able to buy armrests for them as well on ebay. They are very comfortable and have a good metal pan. I had to make up adapter plates however because the bolt pattern is not right for my 520's at least. I will be getting another one for the HC whenever they go on sale. Cleat

Yes make sure the forks are aligned for neutral as in picture above. Ball on end of shifter should be round not worn flat on the sides. Hopefully screw just backed out a bit and lost contact with shifter. If you think part fell inside drain tranny and flush with diesel. Raise front of tractor so fluid and junk clear th bump in the middle of the tranny case. also consider a magnetic drain plug
