It seems like every year during the winter months I find the best wheel horse tractors models you possible can find and buy. You would think summertime more would be available for sale because of the warm months. Nope not me the best I ever find where during the nasty hard cold winter months. First one was a Wheel horse 520hc pretty rare tractor in my neck of the woods. It was the day before are big buffalo lake effect snow of 7 feet! Late November. Great score with 60 inch deck. Second one Wheel horse 520 with 389 hours that came in December also with 60 inch deck. I spend 3 hours digging this one out the price was right!! Trust me.... Third one was the cadillac the Wheel Horse 420lse came in January and I think it was -2 outside and I was the craziest guy at the car wash trying to get the road salt of it before I parked it on my garage. Awesome score never thought I would find one. Espically I thought a buddy was joking with me on this model but turn out to be the real thing!! also a 2 stage snowblower came with it. The 4th one not to rare but a cool find for me a 309 safari wheel horse snowmobile came out of Pennsylvania in early January as me and my friend went down he broke my passenger side window so we had to drive back with rain and wind going through the window lol. It's all good we made it back safe.... So I hate to day I'm going to miss this Winter 2014-2015 of rare finds for me for my collection. Also of course Ill never forget a November lake effect snowstorm of 7 feet of snow! still haven't seen any pics of my wheel horse snow team in any tractor magazine yet lol....... Thanks Shawn

Hey guys, I just wanted to drop in and say I havent forgotten everyone here. I dont really get on any more forums, as I can get my garden tractor fix from the many groups on Facebook these days. I know many arent on there, so I wanted to share my pictures I took this past weekend in Marietta SC, at the Robertsons Farm. Vince_O hosted the plow day and put on another great one. The dirt could have used one more day to dry out, but I think we hit it just about right, as we would have been sucking in a lot of dust had it been any dryer. The plows went through like a hot knife on warm butter. We couldnt have asked for a better day of plowing on Saturday. Friday was a little rough in the corn stubble, but Saturday was amazing in the bean fields. We had a total of 30 tractors there, and turned 21 acres in about 6 hours with plenty of BS sessions mixed in. Its possible there will be one in the fall, but definitely one next spring with much more notice. This one was thrown together at the last minute with about 3 weeks notice. Well you know, I just happen to have one of those in my recently acquired very very rare Wheel Horse 520HCA(Hydro-commercial-atomic)... She wont start, and these men in black SUV's keep stopping by. They aren't very helpful!

Speaking of hospital food, I had a co-worker many years ago who broke his jaw. It was wired for a time and he was on liquids. His yearning for a Burger King "Whopper" had his wife put one in a blender to bring to him. The hospital food tasted better after that!

It was excellent talking with JimD on Skype today...a Huge Thanks to RMCIII (Rob) for doing this. Rob was in the room with Jim with his lap top and set it up. Jim had a few of his friends there with him also. We shared screens with Brrly1 and C-101plowerpower (Koen) from the Netherlands. Here is a couple of pictures...the quality is OK, but not great. Our back yard visitor. He is a cross between a coyote and a red fox. He is larger then a red fox and has the tail of a coyote. Talking to some old timers that said he was considered a red coyote.

Rob, did you get to sample the Hospital cuisine? I spend 40-50 hours a week in a hospital. I'm sure Uncle Jim is chomping at the bit to get out. Great seeing him again and thanks to the Dino for the picture relay.

I mounted a rear scraper blade on my JB sleeve hitch for pulling snow away from garage doors this winter. It can be set to float or be solid. I also have to regrade a stretch of a ditch and plan on using this when I get the cab off. So I can see what I'm doing.

As Garry mentioned, use a 5/16" roll pin and drive a 3/16" inside it. Service Bulletin #62 addressed this.

OK, I think I have some photos of the 520 H. It needs cleaned up and fluids changed, but that is minor! Also got a nice "lightly" used push blade and tire chains. The deck is a "recycle" mulching deck with the mulching apparatus off right now.

I had that problem once with most of tractors I have . I bought some different type of roll pin from McMaster Carr ( military grade ??) and never had an issue again .

I have recorded that the lower bolts...3/8 x 16 thread x 7/8".....WH # 908033-6 are a Nylock bolt. Wonder if they used them to seal the threads against leaks? Garry

Seems like I find them all times of the year.This Winter was no different for me.Got a C-195,no attachments, just as it started getting cold outside.Then came a 520-H with 2 stage blower.Then a C-175 with 48 in deck.Then came a brand X.It's a Case 446,came with a mower deck.I've since bought a 48 in single stage for it.Last came a 416-H with a tall chute blower.This is the best condition tractor I've ever bought.Hopefully Spring will bring more tractors to my yard.IF Spring ever gets here that is.

I made rubber paddles for one of my two short chute SS blowers John. My plan was to use them both in the same snow to measure the difference. Unfortunately I picked up my tallchute and sold both short chutes before I got to make the test. Installing the paddles on my tall chute is on my to do list.

Trust me paul I feel bad on that 520h but she was weird about selling it. I just hate to see it waste away. So I pulled some charmed and photos on what I due. If you ever need anything Ill take care of you. Thanks shawn

The ones on the Work Horse, above, are 27w each. IIRC the 4411 lights are rated at 35w.

Jumpstarting with another battery is not a viable option as I don't have another battery, and I can't get the tractor anywhere near my other vehicles without starting it . I may try the "poor man's" load test recommended above, but I've already removed the battery and plan to buy a new one tomorrow I do appreciate all the responses I have gotten. So just to show that I'm not a total deadbeat here, if anyone is having problems with their nuclear reactor, I stand ready to assist!

Both eagles were on the nest moments ago.. Daddy eagle flew in without any new food. He just stopped in and snacked on the existing fish in the nest, then left. Momma eagle then got up and fed both babies a fish breakfast.

But I never mow with them as I have newer equipment for that. From the things I read though, they do mow pretty well considering the technology is over 50 years old now. For the day they were manufactured in, they were great mowing machines as were several of that era's competitors, including Wheel Horse and Cub Cadet.

We have the drainage problem in my NE Pennsy area. To improve the soil I've plowed in literally a dump truck load of sand. Improves drainage and, the young plants little feet are warm. They chase the water down and grow strong and big. Lawns like sand too! The mix is called a "golf course mix." That's how to "raise" Joisey tomatoes! PS. Bad bacteria like warm, dark, damp. Improve drainage!

I think we're answering the question a little differently from what the op is asking. I assume he's asking about the differences in the two mid mount blades: the older 40" pull type that mounts in the mower deck hitch, and the newer 50" push type that mounts to the same rear axle mount as the snowplow and tiller. In my opinion, the larger 50" pusher type is better suited to the large 520 tractor. They are heavier and are heavier duty as well. Easy to mount, can be angled from the seat (sort of) and ought to cover the full tractor width when angled. Front mount snow blades aren't good for leveling. If you have loose material and drop the blade then drive in reverse they do a fair job. But I think they're a bit limited in what they can do for grading and grooming. Steve

The Wheel horse 420lse cleanup nicely with a nice cold spring day wash. I'm going to have to do a little painting to it ethier way. I hate to do that I wanted to keep it bone stock like a survivor style. The main painting will just be frame,rear end and battery box area. Also little engine paint too. The main panels like the hood and rear fender are staying orginal.

Well, anything late model in my trailer is odd, but this 310 was so clean I had to have it. It needs a solid cleaning, wet sand and buff a couple minor scratches etc. but it runs and drives like brand new.

Yeah, that's really it Steve. To me this thread kinda pointed that out, just looking at the topic then reading the posts, it became a supportive thread which helps strengthen the community.
