In that picture...it looks like Squonk has 2 heads...and 1 is a moderator...does that make since (cents, sents). I bet Scott stays away from Squonk at the show this year...he won't want his head on Mike's shoulder again. Dang Jim...I hope is doesn't hurt to laugh Mate. On the side...I just went for my semi-annual physical this morning. Again, the Doc said..."I don't know what you are doing, but I would not change a thing"...(he has said this to me for a couple of years now). I really want a prescription for what he is smoking...I would share some of it with Brrly1 and then we would go up to the hospital and share it with Jim. Hang in there my friend. You and I will be pulling Horsefixer's tractor with a rope again this summer. Sorry, I submitted this picture to an area "dating" web site, and the phone has not stopped ringing. Most of them are saying that they think the tractor is sexy, but it is that guy leaning on it that makes it so. A lot of "nice legs" comments also. Chris and My prayers Jim...love you man.

Once again, I really appreciate everyone's responses. This was my first post to the Wheel Horse Forum. I've attached several pictures of my Wheel Horse. My Dad purchased this in 1967. It was used for thirty years to mow our acre lot. I figure it probably has 1,000 to 1,300 hours on it. He had a local guy do the regular maintenance pretty nicely. When it was not mowing, it was in the garage. It has never seen rain or snow. As Dad got older, the tractor sat in the garage as he used a lawn service to manage the property. Last year I inherited the tractor. It looked pretty rough. It had two flat tires, hadn't been cleaned in many years, lights didn't work, cigarette lighter was missing, fluids were old, and the belts were getting brittle. But you know what, it started on the first turn with no smoke. I cleaned it up, replaced all the missing parts, and painted it. It runs and looks like I remember it as a kid. I have great memories of years mowing our lawn on this tractor. I don't want to "break" it, but I also don't want it to just sit. So, I have purchased a de-thatcher and an aerator for it. I am also thinking of getting a 650 pound Brinley roller. I have a half acre lot. With all of this equipment, the old Wheel Horse should feel right at home on a new lawn. Thanks, again!

You guys saved me a couple hundred dollars. I'm going to give the mole traps a try. (The comment about "seat time" really hit home!). With regards to "before" pictures, unfortunately, I did not begin the work on the tractor with the intention of doing a restoration - it just turned out that way. So, I do not have a shot of the tractor before the projects began. I do have some pictures of the work in progress. I have attached them. I replaced the old incandescent lights with LED - really makes a difference.

Well here is a SMALL look at what is here, most are pre 77 I count about 24 tractors in this pic, there are near 100 here, Yup I part them out. And I do it for $$, yes I like these tractors if I didn't I would not have 20 or so in my personal collection, but they are JUST garden tractors, yes some are rare/hard to find and many should be saved, the rest are common run of the mill tractors, they made thousands of them, and yes a 855 was only made in 1965, but guess what the 856 was the very same tractor with a different ID tag. and for the 857 oh wait that one had new style decals, still same tractor, I see the RARE only made one year on ebay all the time, what a crock. Parts machines and parts, getting ready for spring cleaning, some will stay others will get the remaining good parts removed and junked. Just a few of my personal collection, and yes some were going to be junked but saved them. but I have a nice supply of used parts

I worked this afternoon on the 1961 Wheel Horse 701 tractor ! I installed the lift arm piece (bought a broken one and had a new one welded as a replacement) I had made for the Hein-Werner HY-2 Hydraulic Pump/Lift Unit I bought last Fall at an auction. I had to drill three holes in the tower of the Wheel Horse to install the hydraulic pump support plate, installed the lift arm piece in the rockshaft for the hydraulic cylinder and tested it all out with my mid-mount grader blade that also has a tongue on it to install in the Wheel Horse rear slot hitch. These old HY 2 pumps have no large fill ports like the Wheel Horse 953/1054 pumps. It tool me 45 minutes to fill the hydraulic pump through the small fill port on the side of the pump! All in all it works well -no leaks on a 52 year old HY 2 Unit (was on a 1963 753 Wheel Horse but removed at the auction I bought it at and fully complete which is why I paid $90 dollars for it. It works great as a lift and I am going to use this with my two piece cultivator attachment in the vegetable garden this summer! I have a horn to install and lights before this 701 is ready to start rolling ! I also have to bend the shifter arm tomorrow to allow me to shift into 2nd and third gear! That reverse and 1st gear is just not enough for this 701~! This is really quickly starting to be my favorite tractor ! Pics from the install

I've always wanted a pressure washer and figured that the attachamatic on the front of the horse would make a great mounting point. I've been collecting parts for a few weeks and finally got a chance to put this together. Here is a shot of the mock-up with the pulley attached to the pump. The pump is 4.0 gpm at 4000 psi and the pulley size puts the engine rpms at 3000. I had an old mule drive that I had used the shaft and pulleys for another project. I added a few pieces of tubing and angle to mount the pump and a fancy "patented" tensioner. I removed the original tensioning screw and added a hook in the rear that locks the whole assembly rigidly to the attachamatic. It works. Now its all disassembled for some paint. It takes about 3 min to install and put on the belt.

Squint, love the offensive material, wouldn't change a thing. Steve, it doesn't hurt to launch and you guys sure are bringing the goods. Laughed till I cried. A word of caution for you, if I get my hands on that rope I will drag Dukes snow chucked right over you for posting that picture. LOL,!!! Redsquare is the best and it's all of you that make it so. Thanks my friends.

Thanks again everyone for your prayers and good wishes. You touch my heart daily. Duke I'll make this easy for us, Buckeyes all the way and I already know your prediction too. But we'll mix it up in the pick thread just for fun. Prayers to you and MJ my friend, and to all of Redsquare that have been so kind to me. I am truly humbled.

I really think that the best medicine is laughing Jim. You have known that for a long time...it is how all the people here remember you...your (cents) of humor has actually helped some of them get through rough times...including me. Thanks Mate Hey...BTW...when I was down in the Ozarks last week...I had the distinct pleasure of meeting a Chief from a native tribe that actually spoke Squonk. He told me that the word "squonk" actually translated into "here...hold my beer and watch this". HA...go figure. So I asked him..."What did (AMC RULES) translate into?' He thought for a minute... and then he shakes his head...pulls out a snot rag and blows his nose...thought for another minute...grabbed the snot rag...blew his nose again...and he says..."dam tecky...need a carb adjustment". We hit it off real good...this Buds for you.

Pretty decent 551. No motor. Shifts nice, has cast foot rests, mint steering wheel. All-in-all a nice little rig. Not sure if its a keeper or what I'm going to do with it. I like the fact that it has the provision for the battery, so the sky is pretty much the limit as far as engine choices.

Well it's simple guys, I had a clean 1997 312 8 speed here could have used a seat but was not real bad, paint was nice on it no rust, probably the best and smoothest running magnum 12 I have ever had, I could not get $500 for it, finally over a year of trying to sell it I did, but not a WH guy but a local wanting a tractor with a blade, so I installed a nice 48" blade on it, and chains changed the trans fluid and engine oil, and delivered it for $800 I had offers from WH guys for $300 well guess what I said no, if these are so sought after and hard to find how come this took forever to sell, I have a Running driving 1967 Ranger with all new tires on it ags in rear and tri ribs in front, snow blade, mower deck, and dethatcher, metal is pretty nice, been a year I can't get $550 for it, for 3 years I had a 312 8 speed needed some TLC but over all nice machine could not get $300 for it, so I put the work in to it and gave it to my son. yup I part them out, make pretty good money doing it, try to sell the nicer ones but can't get anything for them, but you guys buy the crap out of parts, lets see you restore that old tractor with out buying used parts, and no your not getting GOOD used parts off a junker, most of these tractor all have the same problems, so a junker has no usable parts that are NEEDED, and yes I junk good parts all the time, frames, axles, and usable but not great sheet metal, if I saved every frame I would have mountains of them, in the 7 or so years I have been parting them I have sold maybe 3 frames, and never sold a 65 and newer axle, Except the swept axle for a 520, I sell lots of steering parts, linkage, hubs, spindles, engine parts, items like lights, cables, dash panels, rims ect..... So with that said if you feel you want or need to save them all bring a couple semi trailers and a big wad of cash you can buy what is here, many I have were headed to the scrap, I picked them up to part out, some very few get fixed because it's not worth it, I tried fixing a bunch in the beginning, but learned it's not worth it in the end.

It sounds like maybe you had those adult beverages before you started cutting wires without disconnecting the battery. If the battery is only reading 10.5 volts, try charging it with a battery charger for a couple hours. I would look at the wiring diagram in the demystification guide for the "spark" circuit and determine where you are having your problem. As said above, the regulator has nothing to do with spark. If there is no voltage to the coil, then something in that circuit is open. If you do have voltage to the coil, then either the coil itself or the trigger module under the flywheel is the culprit.

I thought the backfire would make people laugh, that's why I left it in the vid When WN was first started she didn't have any silencing at all. sliding the end cans on didn't really make any difference as they were such a loose fit! But rest assured, she will be a bit quieter when the first test drive comes... Thanks.. I'm self taught at this fabrication lark, so you could be too.... You sound keen to be building something so give it a whirl. You never know, it might come naturally to you Thanks dude, the next step is on the way That's the beauty of video you see... You can rewind and watch me jump over and over again Well, after getting distracted by a lathe, moving the workshop about, a random tree and making lot's of noise Thursday, I'm finally cracking on with the front brakes again and get the calipers mounted.. Add a bit of metal, that bit under my finger.. Throw in a couple of triangles to put some strength back, here's one of em. Garnish with a couple of long bolts including having to drill through the kingpin pivot spindle thingy! Tack welded together. A fully welded up caliper bracket.. I think don't think it will fall apart in a hurry One bolted on caliper, one to go.. Yes I will be cleaning up the welds at some point.. And yes the wheel does still fit

I bought the harbor freight lift for 299.00 not bad for lifting up the wheel horses. I'll have to custom some wider plates to the side for wider tractors. Otherwise very impressed with the quality of the lift... The 420 lse is on the lift in the pictures.

My wife always complains when I come in from the shed smelling of gasoline. I've tried the hand cleaners with orange, dish soap, ect. and many different products but nothing seemed to work. Some were definitely better than others but since she quit smoking 15 years ago, she can smell a fart in the wind. Really amazing sometimes but not so much for a guy who's always playing around in the shed with engines. Anyway, I discovered that if I wash my hands with any kind of soap and then wash them again with Edge Gel shaving cream, she doesn't notice anything but thinks I put on deoderant or something. Seems to work well for gasoline and PB Blaster too. The smell from the Edge also seems to fade away pretty quick too. P.S. I also use PB blaster as a repellent for her once in a while, she can't stand that stink! PB Blaster also works well for spraying on the snowblower to keep it slick and stop the snow from sticking. Has lasted longer than most products I've tried.

If you have a nice yard I surely wouldn't roll it. You don't want to compact the soil. I'd aerate it with a plug type aerator and leave it for nature to take over. The plugs break down.

So,so, so sad!!! I get told my team stinks!!! yeah, yeah, sure, sure!!! But they beat your teams, didn't they!!! Illinois are they playing in the dance, Nope, I don't even believe Northwestern even made it. Oh yeah let us Not forget the sweep of the Buckeyes!!!! Com'on there Dino you can do better than that!!!! Yes, you can believe that I will most definitely will have one if not two teams from Iowa!!! Besides the Hawkeyes we have the Iowa State Cyclones and University of Northern Iowa Panthers which has a record of 30 - 3. The pairings are out, Start filling them out and then post your bracket winners with a Champion of the 2015 "March Madness". The games start on Thursday, my guess would be have your picks in by Thursday at noon. Good Luck P.S. Go Hawkeyes, Cyclones an Panthers!!!!

Well, I might as well kick off the picking. The final four: Notre Dame Wisconsin Virginia Duke The champion: Notre Dame Ok guys, quit laughing. Given Notre Dames dismal tournament record, history says that they likely won’t get past Northeastern but I just can’t keep myself from picking them. It certainly wouldn’t be the biggest upset in tournament history.

No reason you couldn't do it. Take a look at the "Sears Suburban GT" site and you will see a couple of images of them mounted. The mule drive on the Sears is very much like the and all you would need to do is make up the brackets to mount it to your frame; should be able to mount it to a mid mount tach-a-matic. When you do it Good luck.

I got the deck mounted tonight, all the bearings on it feel good and run quiet so I didn't have to replace any of those. I did have to replace the cast iron drive pulley on the deck and I put new bearings and a seal in the PTO. Two new belts and I think this tractor is ready to go back to work.

Front end installed and gearlash setup. Engine installed. Hood bolted back on. Battery hooked up. All wheels on. Rear fender is just sitting. Need to install Matt's foot control then machine will be done. Last pic shows this machine to the left, the 1988 520-H with gear reduction swept front end completely restored in front, and the almost complete HC to the rear. My HD snow removal tractor is in the other bay. Cleat
