5 pointsIt was such a beautiful spring like day out today I decided to putt down the street on the 1054 today. I also took a couple of pics for everyone to enjoy.

5 pointsHad a harrowing day yesterday. It started off about 7 am with them thinking I was a Mr. Beam and taking me down for a test I wasn't supposed to get..makes us wonder, eh? Lo. Got that sorted then it was my second bone marrow biopsy. I wouldn't advise anyone to buy a ticket for that particular roller coaster ride. Next up, echocardiogram where I layed in a hall for 45 minutes and had 3 people some in after me go right in for testing got the test then another half hour in the hallway I lost my patience. That got results. The echo guy took me back himself and he was pretty adamant that this stuff was going to stop. Next and final ddrama/trama for the day was a central line. This actually went pretty smoothly and I will appreciate not being stabbed anymore. Forgive my spelling and punctuation errors as I am learning to use a kindle. Never thought I would refer to my desktop pc as old school but I can't wait to get back to it. Thanks again everyone.

4 pointsOne of my 520's was a later model and I don't like it as well so I am converting it to be like my older style 520-H and 520-HC. Machine was torn down and frame, rear end etc was painted. Upper steering bushing was upgraded to a roller bearing (I did this to my HC as well). Older style simpler wiring harness installed. Hydraulic control is now on the side. Gauges are the (I feel) better metal SW units. Steering wheel has the embossed wheel horse name. Foot motion control will be installed soon. That gets rid of all steering column levers. All bushings have been replaced on control levers, motion control, steering. New axle pivot pin will be installed. Cleat

4 pointsWell it just arrived. Was shipped from Canada. It spent a decent amount of time getting through customs.... I am happy with it.
-
4 pointsDon't get me wrong. I think it's a great endeavor. As the title over my avatar implies, I started building my collection with B-100's. After three, I decided to branch out. Had I started collecting earlier in my life, I may have chosen the same path as you. Being retired now with a limited amount of funds available for the hobby, and far worse, a limited amount of time to collect, and far less available horses in my area, I need to build my collection base on what happens to come my way.

3 pointsUp early eh Jim? Aren't hospitals great! They want you to "rest" to get better but they bug you every 2 hours. We need this and then we need that. And then if it's a teaching hospital, the students come in an hour after the regular nurses have been in your room and do the same exact thing they did and want to talk! "How are we feeling today"
-
3 pointsHi everyone, sorry there hasn't been much news. I needed some time to get my head around all that has happened this week. I have been transferred to university hospital in Cleveland. Suffice it to say the news was not the best. I have developed acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Say that three times real fast, eh.I'm not in dire situation they say, and I feel pretty good at the moment. I will be here for a few weeks for treatment. I can't thank you all enough for your kindness and prayers. I am grateful and humbled. That's all for now. Wish me luck. Jim

2 pointsWhile blowing snow on Fri., I noticed the 520 was only showing 12v on the gauge. It did continue to run for 2 hours, but when I stopped to refuel, I had to jump start it . It continued to run till I was done. About another hour. I immediately suspected the $22 RR I installed to fix the charging problem about two years ago. I quickly pulled the leads off the RR and checked the AC ...and breathed a sigh of relief when I saw ~ 27 VAC at 2500 RPM. Put the AC leads back on and checked the B (center) tab on the RR to the + battery post...More relief, I had 14 VDC. My alternator and $22 jungle RR was still alive and well. But the charging voltage was not getting to the voltmeter or the battery. Probably a broken wire. Now I went to the demystification guide, and see there is nothing between the RR B tab and the battery except wire and the 30 A fuse. Maybe I better check the fuse. It wasn't blown....but, see what I found. Replaced the fuse and all is well. Moral of this story....Check the obvious first.

2 pointsWhen I had my herd up north there wasn't any rhyme or reason to what I had and I really never thought about it but I like the idea. Now, with limited space down here I can't have a herd but a few would be fine. After finding the Suburban 400 that I'm now restoring (yes, I'll be posting in that thread again) I'm wanting a 704. Why? Easy. My Dad's first Wheel Horse was a Suburban 400 when I was 5 years old. His second was a 704. That would be cool.

2 pointsCollecting with a theme helps keep you on track. I never really thought about any type of theme, just picked up what I could, when I could afford them. Guess I do have a theme.....They are all RED!

2 pointsMy big thing with me Is, you'll never guess, GT14's but who didn't know that! I've had a few of each but normally they move on. I basically shop around until something catches my eye. Yes of course, I'm still looking for a 55', eventually I hope to find one. I've had the D's even a D250 which is big fun to operate. Real clean D200 but for some reason they move on. Only if I had Stevebo's barn!!!! I can dream can't I??

2 pointsI made a road trip today for a new toy today. I am not real excited about the tractor that it is on but i am excited about what is hanging off of it. It is a Kwik Way loader with a backhoe. It is on a Yardman 998 tractor made by MTD and is the same tractor as White 1855. It runs well and is actually a nicer tractor than I thought it would be. The backhoe and loader are in decent shape but the loader bucket is pretty bad off. I am playing with the idea of moving it to a 520 that I was putting together for the Ark loader on my C-160. I am a little worried about the size of the 520 vs the yardman. The yardman is physically larger and weighs in at over 900lbs I believe. Here is the required picture.

2 pointsThanks for posting in here Jim...I did not really know what was wrong and they were starting to bid on your bed pan. You are going to want to paint that thing RED, I think Terry Dennis can make up a suitable decal for it. Who knows...it just might pay all the bills. Good luck my friend and hang in there. Do you have your cell phone with you yet?? Prayers with you and Karen.

1 pointHi Searcher............There are many on here that would say the forward swept axle of the later 520's are more desirable than the standard fronts of early ones. Some like the motion control on the column of the newer ones. Others like the lever down low on the early ones. Others will say they wouldn't own an Onan powered Wheelhorse! Period! The main thing is a 520-H is NOT a good tractor for someone who is just getting into WheelHorses. (Unless you have decent experience in small engines and lawn & garden tractors). Of the later tractors, a 300 series with a Kohler Magnum or K Series is better and more reliable than the Onan powered 400 and 500 series WH's. A C-Series Kohler Powered Wheelhorse is also a great tractor. The perfect one will come along! It takes patients.Which I don't possess any more than the next guy! Keep us posted and good luck!!!!!

1 pointA friend brought this by yesterday. From what I have read on Red Square the first 500 Special had a H60 recoil start. This one has a HH60 with recoil and electric start. Looks to be fairly complete with the original seat. The cushion is torn, but you can still see the wheel horse logo. Thought some of you might like pictures. I'm more into the bigger HP tractors so I will sell or trade this one.

1 pointhey Jim...looks like Squonk has been in the Hospital also. You got that going for ya. It's hard to believe you would lose your patience...besides...that is "their" job. So did you get to met the real Jim Beam...I am on a first name basis with him. Hang in there Mate...sleep with one eye open.

1 pointI have the spindle you asked about. Here are a few pics. I am also sending a PM to you with further details. I did get your off-site email to me, and I replied biut got no answer.

1 pointAlready posted in WTB! Yup I put a new chain on the blower and it works like a dream. Still need to fix the chite cable but overall very happy with it!
-
1 pointAll those round hoods and he hated them when he first started collecting Wheel Horse But it's true! He was a Black Hood guy.
-
1 pointSteve said, and support legs with casters to use in the garage Everyone is here for you. Rick

1 pointLooks like a chopped up dozer blade and frame.....it is a good idea....maybe a shortfame axle bracket would work.....I think they mount more forward than the long frame hitches...maybe not though.....
-
1 pointD/cowboy I am some what like you. I only collect 67 series =1967 models only no auto`s. I only need the 607 to complete. It is fun. Enjoy collecting it is all in the search. I every time I see an old barn I say I would like to see what`s in there. Enjoy your searching Gary B......

1 pointThat happens all the time when you get used to working on something. Especially in the automotive business with how complicated vehicles have become, the first thought is a complicated problem which many times it is and the simple is over looked. I started down the wrong path when my 518 quit charging, started to ohm wires, stator and such till I realized I didn't check the fuse. It wasn't charging all winter all because I was thinking the worst. Oh well, sometimes we live and learn only to forget, all we can do is laugh.
-
1 pointI think your collecting goals evolve. I started collecting first years of every brand.(modern rear ends)that got boring so I went to all wheel horse with 15 inch tires. that's all done. then all the d series. now im just round hoods and rare ones. after the round hoods I am thinking of the old afl west collection...raider,charger,bronco.
-
1 pointI cant help your current problem much, but thats not a half bad idea for making a mid mount grader blade!

1 pointAgain I want to thank you all. Had a tiring day with three procedures. First was another bone marrow biopsy, then an echocardiogram followed by a central line for IV,S. I am beat folks. Will try again tomorrow.

1 pointWe have red bed pans at work. I can send Jim a spare if it doesn't get emptied in a "Timely" manner!
-
1 pointJust a update for all of you with the shakes. I have the jitters myself. We have a great 56 degree day here today. Snow is melting. The owner did not want to head out to the rear shed yet. He just wasnt willing. Thats ok, I can wait a few days or so. He seems hesitent a bit, guess cause his dad bought it new so he has memories and ties to it. So lets see what transpires. Will keep you guys posted. btw, thought I saw a truck with craig driving and a guy that looked like ken in the back of it, standing up holding the roll bar, with big binoculars scanning around. Is that you? LOL Glenn ok, let me go pop a couple blood pressure pills.

1 pointwell ive been looking for a while now and i got this 1968 ranger, im so excited to have a round hood, needs some work but a nice score james

1 pointI used to teach basic Photography (film, 18 years) at the local Junior College, still have a lot of 'old' friends sending me these things: http://www.omgfacts.com/lists/18285/This-Is-The-Oldest-Video-Footage-From-New-York-City-And-It-s-Absolutely-Incredible?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=Viral&utm_campaign=onsite_share - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - How The Internet Got Started - According To The Bible. In ancient Israel , it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a healthy young wife by the name of Dorothy. Dot Com was a comely woman, large of breast, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com. And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent?" Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?" Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price. The sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)." Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. The drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent. To prevent neighboring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew. It was known as Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures - Hebrew To The People (HTTP). And the young men did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Sybarites, or NERDS. And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land. Indeed he did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks. And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others." And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel , or eBay as it came to be known. He said, "We need a name that reflects what we are." And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators." "YAHOO," said Abraham. And because it was Dot's idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com. Abraham's cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid (GEEK) that he was, soon started using Dot's drums to locate things around the countryside. It soon became known as God's Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE). That is how it all began. And that's the truth! Live life one day at a time and make it a masterpiece! _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Bet you didn't know exactly how these things worked: http://www.omgfacts.com/lists/16320/22-Things-You-Never-Knew-You-Needed-To-Know-So-THAT-S-How-16-Works

1 point"Both rear valves were WAY out of adjustment. " There you go. We must do the valve checks if we want long life out of our ONANs. One member said most heads eventually warp and need periodic attention. We all need that flat piece of plate glass to do the head checks. One ONAN service manual said to de-carbon more often if the engine is run at lower rpms. One eBay seller of gaskets recommends to de-carbon and adjust valves every 200 hours. With the Performer Series engines it seem best to run them hard and check them often. They are not the bullet proof, run them any way you want for years, cast iron engines that we are used to in the older models. As far as I am concerned, nothing beats the sound of an ONAN Performer Series engine and I keep spares just in case.
-
1 pointNot certain what engine/tractor this is on but if the engine runs strong and it's not smoking, missing and idles OK, then I would guess it's OK. There is no real good way to look for issues with a valve through the spark plug hole unless you were looking for catastrophic damage. The head has to come off to view the valve and seat properly.

1 pointI use a can of Berryman Chem Dip. Its specifically made for carburetors and even comes with a tray to put it all in and dunk it. It doesnt hurt anything and Ive never had a carb it couldnt clean to brand new. Why would you use something that wasn't meant to clean correctly for what you have? Thats like saying its good to use 60 grit sandpaper to clean bugs off your cars paint or windshield....sure it works but its not the proper method

1 pointSome paint and varnish removers contain bases that quickly attack and dissolve aluminum. (OUTSIDE.....put aluminum in a plastic container of Drano or caustic solution and stand back). Don't breath the fumes either! Any Ammonium Hydroxide, Potassium Hydroxide or drain cleaner, (sodium hydroxide), will destroy an aluminum carburetor along with any base pH solutions that I see in varnish removers. Your Strypeeze Paint & Varnish remover doesn't contain any bases BUT it does contain 25% to 30% dichloromethane. Dichloromethane will react with aluminum at pure strengths and less so diluted but it will attack it to some point. The other solvents in it include toluene, acetone and some methyl alcohol which are fine. I don't know about the acid dip long enough to change color either. Even a weak muratic acid will pit the hell out of aluminum. Point is to be careful with what you clean these old carbs with. My NAPA one gallon paint can of carb cleaner works well for me and it states it is for all metals.

1 pointThe is an item Chuck "Wheel-Mule" will be raffling off at the swap meet. He will be selling chances to win this item to help raise money for supporting Mentone Swap Meet expenses. He will be donating all proceeds from the raffle. Thanks for looking.

1 pointLike the one I have, that I cant get done. Lol BUT,,,,,,,,,,and I am no expert. The motor "should be" a recoil start, period. Did not read anywhere of a electric start. The rumor says that MANY DEALERS changed engines to make the tractor more desireable and marketable. Its still sweet, and once done a beauty. All the above, my humble comments. A great tractor. Glenn
-
1 pointI've owned many of these along the way. Simplicity is my other favorite brand besides Wheel Horse. The Garden Tractors are very stout and used either Briggs or Kohlers. I Never saw a "Techy" in the Garden Tractor line.
-
1 pointNot sure what would be worse...... A lab, or someone with a new backhoe!
-
1 pointI like it the way it is. The White 1855 is a badass tractor so I would think that your yard man is pretty tough as well. IMHO I would leave as is.
-
1 pointNice haul, if I owned that setup I would be digging holes all over my yard.
-
1 pointWell it's been said already, I am sure it will be repeated several times over. Yes, been there done that but, it doesn't much matter if someone sees something they can't live without, then it's all over except for getting it home and enjoying your spoils. How many times has this happened? Too many times and still enjoying!!!
