9 pointsSpent the day on a trip into the New Forest Hampshire UK to pick up this C160 I didn't realise how awesome these guys were , she has a hydro problem which is preventing her from driving but the engine is in amazing condition & has massive power .

5 points16 degrees today in Wales, and I couldn't resist. I've cut my lawn for the first time with the Once I'd adjusted the cut it was all go. I got half way through and then a sudden drop in power, oh no I thought, but as I looked at the engine I noticed the wire on the coil had come off. 2mins later and I was off again Very happy owner

5 pointsThese are genuinely unique 'OLD' photos. I doubt if you have seen even one of these. They are both interesting and truly historical. 4 pointsIts tough to make out from the inside but I can tell you it was an absolutely miserable 11 1/2 hour ride to get this tractor. Probably the single stupidest thing I've ever done to get a tractor. I took the 551 out and brought this back... Its home now. Rebuilt the carb this week, went to move it tonight after work and the drive belt broke so I'm running to my favorite dealer tomorrow for a new drive belt...at least I hope...Then its going to get the 56" plow I got at the end of last year for $73.50 put on it and get some snow cleared tomorrow and Sunday while its warmer

3 pointsThe New Forest is a beautiful part of the country , very expensive place to live with wild horses & donkeys that just wander past your house. It is very near the Isle of white also . The telephone boxes are still used here in many places in the UK , although the telecom company sold many of them to people who now use them for garden ornaments or even indoor shower cubicles . The trailer is a twin wheel 8x4 domestic trailer, just big enough for one tractor & maybe an RJ sideways. The C160 spent the last 4 years just mowing a horse paddock on a small farm .

3 pointsI had this happen also because of the wet snow. I pushed the throttle up higher and it went away and I did not have the problem after that.

2 pointsAfter rebuilding the undercarriage and remachining the rollers and pins I reassembled everything and took her for a test by pushing some gravel around. Everything ran beautifully but then the RR side started to drip gearbox fluid. I disassembled the track and roller assemblies and then had to drill out the two set screws on the hub as they were frozen solid and broke my hex wrenches. I put a standard 8" puller on the hub which promptly broke. I then got the big boys puller out which is a 12-ton hudraulic unit. No go. I then applied two torches to heat the hub with the puller on. Still no movement. I then decided to split the gear reduction box and remove the entire lower axle assembly and gear to see if I could get it into my 20 ton shop press. I put 20 tons of pressure on the shaft trying to push it out of the hub and then the frame of my press violently exploded sending bolts flying. The failure of the 20 ton press was shocking. The bolts actually stretched and the frame bent. I decided to weld all the frame joints and put in new bolts and beefed up the metal with some heave plating. Once that was done I put the hub and axle back in and tried again. Still no go. I held full pressure on the axle and hub and fired up the torch again. As soon as I started to heat up the hub she finally let loose. Pretty violently too. I can not believe the amount of pressure it took to push the axle out of the hub. Now with new bearings she should go back together fairly easilt. These were the last bearings to replace on this machine. I was not going to replace them until the one started leaking.

2 pointsNice little Horse barn. Started digging out the Trailer today. Need to get it out by June!

2 pointsIt was a late start to the morning (my son stayed at paps last night) so I went over and worked on the tractors a little. Here's what I found on the charging issues. I checked voltage on the battery terminal of the voltage regulator. I had no voltage and found the 30A fuse blown by the starter solenoid.I also had to jump the starter solenoid to start it. Solenoid was bad. Swapped it with the spare tractor and its all better. As for the 520hc not charging, the stator ohmed out good and the batt terminal on the voltage regulator had 12v. So off to the spare tractor for spare parts and swapped the regulator. Now have too working tractors again. Now off to do a little investigation for the steering this afternoon.

2 pointsVery nice Neil...I also like the phone booth (with the "SAVE ME" sign in it)...I like that trailer you got the C-160 in also. :)

2 pointsHigh moisture content in that last storm that blew through. Most of the other storms all winter have been fairly dry.

2 pointsI can see Jim starting a new contest......"what's wrong with me?" First person to guess correctly gets his autographed bedpan. I'd pass but I do hope you get better and back here soon, Jim. Best wishes, Richie

2 pointsAwesome C-160 my favorite! I had to replace the hydro motor in mine 5 yrs ago. It's getting a tad tired again but I have a working spare sitting in the shop for when the time comes. Hey look a phone booth! don't see thm anymore around here. I wonder where Clark Kent changes his clothes? I like that "Hood" decoration on that shed too!

2 pointsMake sure the axle key is not sheared in the right rear wheel hub and the tow valve is closed. Garry

1 pointI'm really glad to see others who will either walk around a snake or admire it and let them live. I have quite a few rattlers, a lot of water snakes and not enough Black Snakes around camp and my house. Live and let live. Except in hunting season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1 pointI dug a hole through the snow and glacier in the back yard and managed to get down to the earth's crust after an hour. I did find some grass with some left-over chlorophyll. So I cut it with a pair of scissors. So there! Central Pennsylvania and Wales are very similar! Seriously.......I'm happy you could cut the grass and that she is running well! We will have to wait awhile in regard to 16 Celsius days and the green green grass of home! Two more weeks before geological Spring arrives!

1 pointI agree with Mike about that TSC seat on his C-160. I've got the same one on mine and I love it. I did take the arm rests off though because I'm weird and never really cared for them.

1 pointWent to Wally World and bought their cheap spray on non stick cooking oil and blasted my blower and chute with it. works great to prevent buildup. Keep your PTO speed all the way up and go slower so chute clears out snow before building up. Ernie

1 pointC-160 is a great machine. Hope you get the "non-moving" problem figured out. I also love the phone booth...Guess that is where Super-Man went, because we don't have phone booths in the US anymore.

1 pointThanks Kevin, the only bloopers I have on video are me messing up my lines and totally forgetting what I was going to say. When I built the 6x6 I spent too long trying to get bit's working (like the brake steering) that clearly were never going to work! With this project I'm taking my time thinking this through so I only have to do them the once.. So by taking my time I'm actually saving loads of time Thanks Richie Making it look like a hot rod is the idea I think the rear fenders are cool, but they just needed a little tweak to get them sitting right.. Thanks Jerry, the video wasn't over the top was it? It was a rather long one! I can't wait for the first trial run too, but a little while to go until that happens.. Thanks Callum.. strangely enough I don't have any doubts about stability at speed... It's hard to explain, but when I sat on her for the photo's it just felt right.... Having driven a racing Wheel Horse (if only for a few laps around the track) they feel quite unstable and very twitchy due to the short wheel base.. Even at standstill you just get the feeling that it will be "interesting" to keep in a straight line... Due to Why Not's much longer and wider wheel base that feeling just isn't there.. It feels long and low.... Like I said, it's hard to explain Hi Don, a roll bar would be good for safety but not so good for keeping the center of gravity low.. I don't think the wheelie bars will be needed.. Now I know how heavy the front is after removing it from the bench (two people could of just about lift the front but three were easier), I can't see the front wheels lifting under a hard launch.. Light steering maybe, but no more..... Then again, I may be wrong.. Some more thinking is needed A bit more progress, the second brake disc and spacer/hub adapter thingy have been made and welded to the hubs... Brake caliper in place but not fitted yet. Almost full lock.. One thing bugged me with the outside photo's... The fender pan looked to be leaning towards the back!! But with a bit of box section wedged under the back a much meaner aggressive look emerged... I guess I have a few tweaks to do in this department

1 pointGreat Idea for a thread ! You let your seedlings watch TV "? . I'll be doing some different varieties of hot peppers this year . Can't wait !

1 pointI thought I was the only one that was thinking this. The Grandfather wants only the best for his Grand kids, I can't blame him for not wanting a crappy box store tractor. I taught my son a long time ago that these tractors aren't toys but you can still have a ton of fun with them without beating the crap out of them. Who knows, maybe Gramps will teach his grand kids the same value's. Maybe the guy that restored it would love to see some kids having fun on his tractor. We bought this 854 off Buckrancher almost 3 yrs. ago at the Big Show. Once in a while my son takes it in the woods where there are some trails near our house. In almost 3 yrs. of ownership Cole hasn't put one scratch on his tractor..My son is only 13 but he already has plans to one day pass the 854 down to his kids.

1 pointI hear Nessie has traveled as Lake Michigan. Lots of guys getting winter tans trying to wrangle that rascal!

1 pointMike, Bring it to the show and we can do some sort of "Survivor" stunt where you have to drive around in it in the hot June sun. it would make you wish for snow!

1 pointI ran into someone yesterday from Canada, he said up there they call it 9 months of winter and 3 months of road repair. Food for thought.

1 pointCraig, I also just found this in my Wheel Horse folder. It's from a 1999 WHCC Newsletter. It's just part of the article. The piece was written by Eric van Loock who I know has done some serious research about Pond /Wheel Horse. The information for this article came from the original owners of the tractors so It looks like it was possible for even some RJ58's to have the K91.
