3 pointsI got a message a few days ago about a old GT of a different color that a guy wanted to sell and as we talked and he sent me some pictures and this cool old Raider happened to be in some. Long story made short I ended up bringing both tractors home. He didn't know anything about this tractor,his uncle has a septic pumping business and he found it on a job they did. It looks like it may have been used as a puller at one time. Besides the 26x12-12 Good Year's on widened rear wheels,a 66 hood has been installed on it with a pedestal in the front raising the hood enough to clear a big block Kohler,similar to the way Wheel Horse did it in 66-67. It also has newer heavy duty rear hubs that are actually a little too long for the shorter axles on this rearend. The entire lift system is long gone too,and notice the super skinny's up front. They have been on it a long time by the looks of it. I initially just wanted it for the rear wheels and tires but after getting it home I think I have a plan for it.

3 pointsWhat could possibly make quicker work plowing snow with a horse?.... Plowing with two . That's my fathers 520-HC in the back and my 518H. We have a few inches here in Pa,and my old Hahn blower is working better for what I have to do at my house. So the 518 went back to my parents to make room and this is what transpired.

2 pointsHave not looked it over well enough to determine if it is a 58 or a 59, but it is pretty complete and original excluding the hood decals. It has all the guards nice original tires that are not weather check, which is remarkable. It even has the, often missing, oil bath air cleaner and sediment bowl. Even has the original muffler. Lucked out on this one.

2 pointsUnfortunately the throwing it away after ten years mentality has been in effect for a while anyway since most people that do not do it themselves, will not change the oil in their lawn mowers or snowblowers anyway. As long there is oil in them a lot of them will last about that long. With lawn equipment shops charging just about hourly as a new car dealer around here, no one takes their lawnmower or snowblower to do any maintenance, since that will cost at least $150.00 each time, plus the hassle of taking it and bringing it. That's why it is so easy around here to pick up free snowblowers. People never drain carbs after the winter and then it won't start next season. They call, then get a estimate of at least $200.00 assuming nothing major is wrong, plus transportation fees, so to the curb it goes. Might as well buy a new one specially if they had it for a few years.

1 pointHello all. I just wanted to post a little about my candidate for the longest rebuild ever on a WH I bought my Grandparents farm back in 2010 when Grandpa died and Grandma moved to town. Along with the farm I grew up on, I inherited this old Horse. When I was a kid it was the first thing I ever drove. It mowed 3 acres for a lot of years before Grandpa got something bigger and parked it outside under this lean to. So I moved in and started tearing it down back in winter of '10. The body was really straight. However, at some point someone had swapped out the 6hp Tech for a K181 Kohler. They also had done some work updating the decals. Notice the original script underneath the more recent decal. I then started in on the epic task of removing both rear hubs and the rear pin in order to split the tranny case to see what needed done. I figured since it sat outside, it had water in it. I was right, but it really wasn't all that bad. Also, I managed to break both hubs (no good puller) and had to drill out the rear pin. When I got it apart, it was a little gunky and dirty, but everything was in good shape, no missing teeth or anything, just some needle bearings that I had probably killed with my sad attempt at hub removal. I also pulled apart, cleaned and reassembled the differential: After some time in the e-tank the halves came out looking pretty good: I am having trouble with getting that last bearing in but otherwise, a few seals and a reassemble and the transmission is done. I have had a ton of fun with this even though it has taken me forever and I am not even into the motor portion of this yet. The body parts have all been e-tanked or stripped to bare metal, primed and repainted. It's a rattle can job, but I have tried to do a nice job on it. This will be a worker when done for garden duty and some log hauling for firewood. Id also like to say, "Thanks" to all the great members on here who have inspired me to keep going with their excellent builds, restos and just a great sharing of information. Especially stevasauras with that uni drive trans rebuild post. I'd have never attempted that without seeing that on here. Thanks to all. Will keep this going as I slowly proceed. I also have removed the old tires and redone the rims with the e-tank. They turned out great in my opinion. I will post more pics as soon as I can.

1 pointwith these clones you can make a great engine by swapping the plastic gear cam out for a slightly more agressive lobe, billet aluminum flywheels and honda valves and springs.

1 pointMine's a Montgomery Ward machine made by Gilson that my grandfather bought new in May, 1974.. i have all the original documentation, including the sales slip... great machine... They were well made, and well designed! Are you familiar with ? Lots of good info there!

1 pointto , there ate quite a few Tejas folk on here, nearest Houston? , Pflugerville, and Center; a few La folk (couple just east of ya) and myriads of others. Ya'll find the most knowledgeable, helpful guys this side of the original engineers of WH . Wasn't aware that ball pinned, all mine appear welded at top front approx. 1/2 way around. But if end ball is good and donut good you are in not so bad shape. Best case find a pin; moderate case, temp with nail (if broken pin completely out for ref position) in prop position weld top front and discard nail; worst case search for shifter on here (vendors section/Kelly, wanted ads, or auction site) Off topic but East Texas Tractor Show, Canton, April (a few WH, rest big boys)

1 pointI put together a short video of blowing some very wet, heavy snow (about 5"). My only regret is that it wasn't deep enough nor is my driveway long enough. I get it done too fast.

1 pointSo I understand, the ignition switch works and is sending 12v to the solenoid when in the start position. You hear the solenoid clunk in. Problem is the solenoid is not making contact inside to send 12v to the starter. Replace the solenoid for about $10. I have repaired some by taking them apart and cleaning the contacts.

1 pointI installed skids on my plow several years ago (made a bracket and used some threaded rod and cut up some old cut-up some old mower blades for the skids) works great and I get three times the blade life on black top usage.

1 pointvan, im liking the 416 even with all its little quirks. all the safety switches and electrical are driving me nuts. nothing that a good wiring makeover wont take care of though. i guess i cant get away from onans either, been messing with a few engines the last 6-8 months and while i appreciate all the engineering built into them, i like the simplicity of the kohlers and especially the cheaper parts. always liked the looks of these tractors, but weren't coming across any when it was buying time and then just recently this one came up. i think this one will be a keeper, its going to get a few mods and some work done on it, but first i need to sort out all the adjustment and electrical issues. still undecided if it will get a teardown and shine up though. pulled the deck after finally prying my wife off it and hooked up one of the blades i have. all ready to push a bit of snow now....... got a set of chains with it as well so if needed i will put them on too.....
