6 pointsI used to post a significant amount of help articles and quite frankly I have stopped because of what Cas is describing. Many folks can confirm I have taken to "private sessions", a great help to the problem owner but unfortunately not visible or of any benefit to other forum members. I chose to work with issues this way to prevent confusion on the part of those less experienced with electrical work, Too many cooks in the kitchen gets confusing and sometimes contradictory posts end up taking the owner temporarily off track. Before anyone cries out electrical elitism, I am not claiming others inputs are incorrect, just opening up too many options for the owner to follow. If another forum member offers what amounts to "drive by" advice, makes one post with no explanation of why or how the owner should perform their suggested action, the owner ends up being further confused. The "drive by" adviser somehow is never heard from again. The next contributor, has to spend additional time and effort to either "un-explain" the "drive - by's" suggestion or possibly be forced to comment on the validity of the post to prevent the session from going off track. The value of having a locked (even pinned) help tutorial is obvious. Most folks who take the hours - yeah HOURS - of their own time to create these posts and videos usually have a handle on best practices needed to resolve a specific issue. Having a locked post allows the owner of the problem a direct one stop shopping experience to resolve their issue. I believe if someone takes the HOURS needed to create a detailed tutorial for the benefit of all members of the forum, mods should be able to invest MINUTES to lock the post. Sorry if any of this is harsh, but it is why I don't post tutorials anymore.

4 pointsHO slot cars! My 11 year old grandson came over last weekend so we got out my mega collection of slot cars and track! I have 4 tackle boxes full of slot cars and a few other original Thunder Jet slot car cases full of oldies! I have Thunder Jets, A/FX Magna Traction, Tyco Pro and 440X2 mostly. This is a fun hobby and my buddy and I have been doing it since we were about 13 years old so that is 40 years worth of collecting and racing these little buggers! Anybody else into this hobby? I think Lane Ralph is into it. I may have more slot cars than Wheel Horse tractors!

4 pointsI hate how I have some item stored in some really bizarre location but refuse to move it to the more logical place, BECAUSE I know that as soon as I do I will NEVER remember the new location.

3 pointsI'm with Lane. They now sell new affordable replacements. Here is another source for a new replacement for the SSI unit. http://overnight-solutions.com/index.htm

3 pointsI've owned many of these along the way. Simplicity is my other favorite brand besides Wheel Horse. The Garden Tractors are very stout and used either Briggs or Kohlers. I Never saw a "Techy" in the Garden Tractor line.

2 pointsAfter looking for a larger used Cabinet Blaster for a few months I decided to build one. I did some research reading through several builds on the net, and looking at manufactured models. My cabinet work area is 48"w x32"H x 39"D and takes some design features from units manufactured by TP Tools. A lot of my designs start with available scrap and I had a lot of 3/4" scrap plywood, and a pile of scrap 18-20 gauge sheet metal to work with. Here my cabinet lined with sheet metal. I'm going with a front load design because loosing shop wall space for a side door opening was not a good option. Here the cabinet side view. I suspect I may add a side door for long items some day.I used contact cement to attach the sheet metal to the plywood. Used 2 coats on the wood and one coat on the metal which worked very well. I cut all the sheet metal with an abrasive blade in my table saw. The seams are sealed with silicone caulk. The cabinet hopper has a 1: steel pipe fitting in the bottom to attach the media siphon valve The Tacoma company sells an upgrade kit for Harbor Freight cabinets. I purchased it and it has a foot air valve, media siphon valve, air regulator and blast gun. Dave at Tacoma was really good to talk to and helped size the blast gun nozzle and orifice in the media valve to my compressor. I'm getting excited to try this out! The front load door is my last challenge,

2 pointsIf your battery is 10 years old, it is shot. Put a NEW battery in there and see what happens. NEVER EVER EVER "rap" on a starter. Hammers don't fix electrical problems.

2 pointsI have rebuilt countless Kohler engines and primarily use aftermarket parts because of cost. Not a single one has ever had a problem. Proper rebuilding procedures will give excellent results.

2 pointsThis thread is fantastic. I spend at least 20% of my shop time looking for something...or trying to remember why I walked to the tool chest. It is amazing how far things can bounce and roll on concrete. I don't even bother looking for many things just slap on a replacement. (Like the detent ball in the stick shift tranny's. I bought a bag of 100 from McMaster and I haven't looked for one since.

2 pointswell I'm really glad this group therapy session is getting somewhere! I always get to the point that I'll think to grab another similar sized object and drop it in the same place to see where it went... only to be looking for 2 for another 10 minutes

2 pointsHere is another alternative. These old big Tecumseh motors are used still in the Texas oil fields. http://welderpartswarehouse.net/Tecumseh_Ignition_Upgrade_610748_610906.html

2 pointsStill have about different 25 AMC's... and a 20 ft. high banked oval.

2 pointsSteve I think he is simply stating that they should maybe pinned in a help forum. I think that would work much better then the search method because a lot of people potentially helped might not know to search for them specifically or might have issues wording a search to come up with the appropriate results. The search function is a finicky animal anyway. It would also be easier on people who aren't as computer literate. Not everyone that plays with these vintage machines is as good on the PC as the WH.

2 pointsI have owned Simplicity / Allis Chalmers Big Ten's and Simplicity Landlords. I will say this, if I had more room I wish I still had these two. They ain't no joke. You can lock the rear diff. for posi and the Brigg's motor's they used were a good engine.. I had a snow thrower on the Big Ten and it threw BIG TIME snow with ease and with that posi they can push a heck of a lot of snow. They do a wicked nice job cutting grass. Yes, they are a little harder to work on than a Wheel Horse but they are built tough. Buy a decent one and it's not like you'll be working on it everyday..

1 pointNice collection and that is a nice long straigt away too.

1 pointGeno, is it my understanding that you are planning to buy Horses, restore them and put them up for sale like they are "pre-owned" If so I wish that you lived closer to me man! I think that's a great idea.

1 pointUsed this bad boy. The bearing puller was a little smaller so I had to jam it out of the center of the bearing with my hand to get it to stay in there. It took quite a bit of effort with the slide hammer.

1 pointI have a points file hidden in about 6 locations...never could find a file when I needed one to tune up the ole Kohler!...now where did I put the last one?

1 pointMy 314h is pretty good when cold. Has 200ish hours. My 522xi loader, also an Eaton 1100, has 1100ish hours needs time to come to grips w Mother Nature. I let it run 1/2-3/4 throttle for 20 min. Even then it seems slow. After driving it for a bit she comes around and operates just fine. Quite frankly I'm happy if they move at all in zero degree weather.

1 pointPicked this up few days ago it has the that ignition thankfully it works

1 pointThis what I would do... I would not remove the strap... I would sand down/clean the area where the metal is to be epoxy, in front and in back of the strap... at the end of the day you need to eliminate the flex in the hood. By placing the sheet metal in the positions noted you will esentially eliminate any flex in the hood and stop the metal fatigue cracking by way of the added support. By making your patches an inch to an inch and a half wider than the cracks themselves, you will be supplying the load over a large area: 1) stiffening the hood and 2) providing extra stability for the tank strap itself. Sorry about the crappy pic... all I could do in 5 minutes with a mouse and paint.
-
1 pointGot the engine running yesterday...seems to run pretty decent, and not smoke. Also, got the front wheels sanded and rears beadblasted, those are now ready for paint, I need to put a freeze plug in the oil bath and paint them black. Thanks, Jake

1 pointI sell a lot of aftermarket parts. Not all parts but a large amount are made by the very same manufacture. Most electrical parts,Gaskets, spark plugs ,fuel pumps.are the same .Enternal parts are about 50-50 .My parts supplier can't tell me which are which but I have gotten Kohler aftermarket rods that had the Kohler parts number molded in the rod just like the OEM. I have also gotten blades with both the OEM and aftermarket number stamped on them.
-
1 pointNot a problem - they were $80 total ($20 each). And this was the design I borrowed from a member here. Mind you now, the cradle does take a bit of finessing to get into all four mounts, but when in and tight, the motor is nice and solid. And there is no noticeable vibration. Good Luck!
-
1 pointNothing worse than you can't find that small item till you go to get undressed and there it is caught in your wasteline or hung up on your belt or managed to make it in a pocket. With my very round wasteline I have yet to figure out how items get caught there.

1 pointIn my opinion, good quality after-market parts are available from such suppliers as Stens, Rotary and BBT Power Parts.

1 pointVideos should be on the how- to instructional video section. They should however be locked to replies so they do not detract or distract from them. Only post originator should be allowed to edit or add to it. Search feature is inconsistent, time consuming, and frustrating. What could be simpler than if one has for example a RJ-35 and needs to work on it. Go to the instructional video section and there it is. All you need and more. There are so many members here with so much talent and more importantly willing to share their talent that I believe that if this is done properly, we would see a wealth of information on that section. Now what ever we have is just scattered all over forum, many times forgotten or drowned by needless chatter. Not a good incentive or a showing of the proper appreciaton to those members. What would be the difficulty in changing the How-to video section to allow this? At the same time what would be the reason why this cannot be done? We could even have a qualified dedicated moderator such as we have for the files section. I am sure that this is a substantial amount of work, however members who have made videos in question also went though a considerable amount of work and time spent in order to share their knowledge and experience with the rest of us. Isn't that after all the whole purpose of this forum?
