6 pointsGot...maybe 6" of the slick, dry, powdery stuff here overnight... definitely was a far cry from the Armageddon forecasters were predicting(not complaining)... did the drive and side with the blower, early this morning...wasn't pretty, but did make it happen though. Just connected the dots to the shed out back, chose my plow this time, and went much better.

5 pointsA friend brought this by yesterday. From what I have read on Red Square the first 500 Special had a H60 recoil start. This one has a HH60 with recoil and electric start. Looks to be fairly complete with the original seat. The cushion is torn, but you can still see the wheel horse logo. Thought some of you might like pictures. I'm more into the bigger HP tractors so I will sell or trade this one.
-
5 pointsIt's been a while since I added to the WH side of the collection, but today I aquired a pretty nice 603. It has a few minor issues here and there, but with a little elbow grease and some attention I think it's going to be a pretty nice little rig. The original Techy runs quite well - even though I'm not a fan. The steering wheel is super mint.
-
4 pointsWell here in central Ohio we only got a mere 5 inches of the white stuff! Bummer for my snow plow rig, a 1974 A90 Special! I fired it up anyways and let it fly. The county snow plow didn't even bother to go down my road so I did part of my road and my one neighbor did part of the road too with his new fangled Cub Cadet tractor. Then I did my driveway and my neighbor ladies driveway too just for fun. It took about 2 hours to do all of this. This is the first time I got to use my snow plow this winter! So far we haven't got much snow this year, not like most of you guys are getting!

3 pointsOff topic but looking at your avatar brings back memories. Many years ago I was privileged to have this beautiful creature.
-
2 pointsJust in case you wondered, everyone in northern Wisconsin and the Upper penninsula of Michigan is laughing their asses off right now. A two foot drop of snow is not historic, does not shut down the city for three days, and does not require the National Guard. It is called Tuesday, and it happens all the time!
-
2 pointsLike the one I have, that I cant get done. Lol BUT,,,,,,,,,,and I am no expert. The motor "should be" a recoil start, period. Did not read anywhere of a electric start. The rumor says that MANY DEALERS changed engines to make the tractor more desireable and marketable. Its still sweet, and once done a beauty. All the above, my humble comments. A great tractor. Glenn

2 pointsSorry hahaha, it's on my electro 12 with a 42 inch blade, weights, and chains. Oh, and a cab! Haha. Love the new cab

2 pointsHard to measure what we ended up with because of all the drifting but I have about 14"-20" of new snow here. My small town has two pickups and two dump-trucks for snow removal.....we now have two pickups and ONE dump-truck!! Saw this about an hour ago (sorry, cheapie cell phone pic thru my truck window) The driver was out and talking to another driver so I'm thinking no injuries. Its only on its side so maybe it could be pulled back over and get back to work ?? Mike.............
-
2 pointsAnd if the tranny drive pulley is OK, check the axle keys.
-
2 pointsSounds like the woodruff key on the transmission drive pulley has come out or sheared. Jack the back end up so the wheels are off the ground, start the engine. The pulley on the transmission should be turning, and the input shaft that it is mounted on should be turning with the pulley. If it is not, pull the pulley off and inspect the key.

2 pointsDepends what you like Brrly. Our show will have a lot that the Big Show doesn't from what I've heard. We will have 100's of acres to play on and will actually be able to use them. There will be fields surrounding the main show area set apart for mowing, plowing, tilling, etc. If anyone wants to use any equipment we will have a place for it. I can't wait to see all the horses at work. There's more but that's enough spoilers for today...

2 pointsI was cruising the back allies of my small home town today and spotted a Wheel horse from a long ways away! I went around the corner and down the next ally and found this oldie buried under some snow! It looked like a Bolens at first with all the snow on it. But after closer inspection I see it is a WH. I talked to the owner and he said he just got it last week with the big Farmall tractor that is next to it. I asked if it was for sale and he said sure. I looked it over and he said it was a 654. It has a 654 drive belt guard on it but after I checked it out further, I could tell it was a 1961 Model #701, one of my favorites! It has the wrong hood and is missing the seat and spring and the double starter generator belt guard is missing too. No big deal since I have one on the shelf. All else looks good including the Kohler motor is loose and intact. He said for me to make him an offer so I said $75.00 and he said no, but he would take $150.00 for it. I said I would go that high on it. I got his phone number and said I would get it next week or next weekend. He said he had some more WH's in the barn, a Raider 12, a Lawn Ranger, a 654 and a very nice old 1958 WH! I said I would like to see the 1958 Horse but he said these weren't for sale. I asked if I bought the other one, if I could see the 1958 tractor and he said yes. So I will get back to him later to get the 701 and see the oldie in the barn. I was hoping it was older than 1958 and maybe I would try to buy it anyways! I will keep ya all posted on this deal!

2 pointsHere are a few from my neighborhood and around the house. The first two are of the neighborhood's pet doe when it was a fawn last year. It wandered up to me while I was working on a cart. It still is very tolerant of humans. Long story of it being separated from its mother and then adopted by a neighbor after being shunned by the rest of the herd. It had it's own fawn this year. The neighbor has a dog collar on it to prevent being culled. Another neighbor has a farmette with two horse and five goats. Its not uncommon to find the horses broken free. Oke', my dog, was wondering about those "big deer!" The other shots are just some of the local critters. It's interesting living where I am. Rarely a day goes by without taking some type of picture.

2 pointsHey Geno have you called Toro yet to ask what they want for the rest of the Wheel Hose stock parts and naming rights to produce more tractors?
-
2 pointsMy winter projects are coming along nicely. I wanted to get everything done last fall because it was such a tuff winter last year, and I did. So my winter projects are...sleep late in the mornings, go ice fishing when the temp is in the 20's, light the fire place and watch as much football & basketball as I can, eat a lot of comfort food. I can report that the time line is looking good for a successful winter this year.

1 pointWell, FINALLY got some good snow in eastern PA. I have not had much time to post about my new toys and additions but I figured this video would be a good time to bring up the blower. Been wanting to find a tall chute for a while now. I was perfectly fine with my short chute but I have plans to add electric chute rotator and chute deflector. The tall chute is an easier platform to add these items too. I found one in all but mint condition with these heavy, heavy steel wheel weights that came along with the deal . Some other things I like about the tall chute is the replaceble scraper blade and the thicker jack shaft which allows you to use a standard bearing and not having to modify things just to replace the bearings. Heres a short video from this morning! Throws the snow just fine! Calling for another snow storm on Monday! http://youtu.be/0Fyb0NUmvk0 Kyle

1 pointOne shot of Calico Jack Spiced! One shot of Calico Jack Cherry. Add 5 round small ice cubes and a 12 ounce diet caffeine free diet Pepsi. Bottoms up! The spare Onan runs after a four year sleep. Had to swap fuel pumps and cleaned out the carb........again. Success! Runs real smooth. No smoke! No knocks, ticks or clicks. I'll have to adjust the governor some as I believe I can exceed 3600 RPM at full throttle. All the gauges work. Safety switches work! The idiot lights work too. Thanks to Joe's Outdoor Power for selling me this puppy 4 years ago as a backup I knew I would need someday. Thanks to Redsquare member Cable for the advice and a gold replacement pin for my burnt connector on the spare. Didn't think it would be that big of a deal to open the heads and de-carbon then just put it all together and add the muffler, drive pulley & PTO and drop it in the 520. It was and I guess doing it alone on a time budget doesn't help! The snow storms didn't help either! I'll get some pics of what is causing my 30 PSI rear cyl compression this weekend in the original motor. On the same motor I need to look for the exact cause of the oil leak on the PTO side of it too. I would love to fix it and have another spare but I'm not holding my breath for a good outcome. We'll see! Oh and the one thing I would like this thread to convey to others who may read it in the future.................................if your going to store an Onan for years, de-carbon it then fog it. Otherwise, you have the small engine equivalent of a bachelor's oven with Easy-off Oven Cleaner applied! Glad I opened the heads up before I tried to run it!

1 pointThe fun part has began! Got the hood and frame painted on sunday. Tonight I put the drive system and the steering together, it is as far as I can go for now, but was glad to start assembling it. Still have the get the wheels and speed selector arm done, but everything else is done. I am going to get some bolts plated, and then I can put it most of the rest of the way together. Anyways, heres a couple pictures, going together very easy so far, very happy with how its turning out. Thanks, Jake

1 pointThat is a very nice horse! I don't know about that idea Steve. Some very nice Connecticut horses are now grazing in the Garden State. They may need company.
-
1 pointNice lookin tractor. Not a fan of the tecky engines myself but I've always had good luck with them. Good find.
-
1 pointMe too I'll be there! After all Some one has to be there to let everyone know where Craig is and keep Steve entertained! Se Ya'll at the Bus Stop!
-
1 pointCouple snaps of my drive and front yard. Nice and fluffy so it was easy to clear. Mike..........

1 pointOut of my garage and into a work space where I don't park cars. It's got heat and air plus lots of light and lots of electrical outlets. Still needs paint, landscaping, entrance ramp and a whole lot inside. Here's a few photos.
-
1 pointGot an emergency call out to the farm to plant a horse today... while I was there I was able to visit with a couple of the old armys asses that are still housed out there.
-
1 pointHere is a crappy video of my own. My wife and I were walking down the road near our cabin and heard a horrible screeching noise. We looked over to see this squirrel hanging by his tail that was caught in a thorn bush. After the video I did free him. A bear while hiking in the Smoky Mountains. Some Fungi. And lastly watch where you step when hiking. First one is with phone no zoom, second one camera with zoom. You have to look closely in the first picture.

1 pointI pretty much agree with everyone elses views as far as performance. My short chute would send it just as far. The tall chute keeps the plume of snow tighter and less of a spray pattern effect, which may result in a few more feet of distance. I like the replaceable scraper bar which allows you to set a tight tolerance between blade and pavement. Also allows you to maintain that tolerance by adjusting the skid shoe adjustment height. Yes, you can always weld or add a blade to the older models but it will not be as easly replaced. And the knotched bar adjuster for the scalp wheels will most likely never match your blade height or wear to the blade. However, I do miss the quick adjustment of the scalp wheels for switching from blacktop to grass. To compromise, I nudge the hydro lever until i see the blower lift just a tiny bit. As I understand it , there is some short chute blowers out there with the skid shoes and replaceable scraper that where improvements made before the switch to the tall chute. I am more then content with the tall chute. At the end of my driveway I blew through wet slush about 18+ inches thick packed snow the plow truck left to the power lines. The neighbor was impressed with that move. The simplicity and performance is so well balanced , I see no need to own the heavy , two stage blower. The singles break down nice for storage and are super easy to fix and find parts for. I have found no snow that clogs or slows down the single stage blowers to date. Thats my story and Im sticking to it! lol
-
1 pointNice video and sound. How would you compare the performance of the tall chute to the short chute in terms of snow throwing ability? TIA
-
1 pointTankman you are being slack on your Wheel Horse training, Green Hats with Yellow Deere are not allowed. Shape up before you start painting Wheel Horses green and yellow.
-
1 pointthe best minimum preparation primer i have used is the duplicolor green self etch acid primer sold at advance auto. epoxy primers are used for long term protection enamel primers are probably the most commonly used (rustoleum)
-
1 pointIt's a 1976 model, and the rear tires are fluid filled. Yes I still love the Wheel Horses, they are so simple to work on compared to the Green ones!
