12 pointsWell my boy, Zach, has been asking for a plow for his tractor for some time now. He has been clearing snow with me ever since he was 10 months old. He isn't old enough to be turned loose on his own yet, but he will be ready. I need to pick up a few more new bolts and it will be ready. The blade was purchased from Gene Simpson for a good deal. It then was disassembled and taken over to our powder coater. Now the finishing touches are being done and then under the tree it goes for Christmas morning. Can't wait to see his reaction!

4 pointsSeems kinda kooky looking... like something the Grinch would use to steal Christmas presents.
-
3 pointsNo I didn't give my little boy his snow plow yet. Instead I treated myself to a Christmas present. . Though this one needs a little TLC, I thought it would be another good conversation piece for the collection. From my understanding these were promotional tools for the dealers if they wanted to purchase one. They did not originally come with an engine but many had an engine dropped in them so they could be sold. This one has an engine that needs some wiring help. Hoping to touch up the paint in a few places and just have fun with it. It is about time to reorganize the barn once again!!!
-
3 pointsGot in a little taxidermy work while watching the paint dry on the Commando 8 parts. Got my buck ready for the cape but that probably won't get mounted till Feb. Made a little "bunny" paper weight from Owens doe foot. I'll surprise him with this on his 12th birthday in Jan.

2 pointsRed Square: I am working on developing a replacement for the circuit boards in the 300, 400, 500 series tractors. To do that I need help from you guys in a couple ways. I am trying to figure out how many styles there were and what they looked like (that's where the pictures come in) I know what they DO from the schematics posted but I need to know physical layout for sizing and placement of LED's and connectors. For this I need help from anyone that has a dead or dismantled circuit board laying around. If you are willing to ship one off to me I will be giving you a discounted rate at buying an equivalent number of replacements. My timeline is approximately 6 months depending on how much help I get.

2 pointsYou may also want to consider contacting Glenn Petit for a possible colaboration on a formed silicone 'gasket' or 'collar' to seal out liquid intrusion at the point the PCB mates with the molex connector.
-
2 pointsI will send some measurements for the 418 and 416 (appear to be identical). I will also post how to modify non blinking oil low lights to make them blink on low oil detection. If you are able to get a snapshot of the wiring connector layout for a 300 series PCB, that would help to advance the cause.

2 pointsPeople who are good at solving problems (Dr's, Mechanics) will easily solve this, others who just get a bigger hammer or park their tractor behind the garage, can't: Can you meet this challenge? I've seen this with the letters out of order, but this is the first time I've seen it with numbers. Good example of a Brain Study: If you can read this OUT LOUD you have a strong mind. 2 pointsI'm definitely with you guys after watching that video. This tractor turned that slow since I got it, even when it would start. Not saying I didn't have other issues, which should now be fixed, but this thing definitely needs to turn faster. I'm really leaning towards the starter and not towards too much compression. Reason I say that is I would be confident it didn't have too much compression when I bought it and it turned that slow then. I have a new battery in it that has been load tested and I have cleaned all connections from the battery to the starter. I will try the jumper cables again just be sure then I guess this weekend I will pull the starter and attempt to disassemble and clean. Wish me luck and I will post back with results.

1 pointI was tiling a bathroom on a hotel recently and i had a few old broken tiles left over, so i thought rather than just throw them away i would put them to good use . Here are a few pics of what i managed to conjour up , The mosaic even has some chrome wheel nuts which i took off some plumbing fittings I thought i would use the display when showing my tractors at the shows

1 pointWell, the title say it all, and its true. The Red Fever has set in, and its looking great! I made a Sunday evening trip down south to pick up a horse, or two, maybe three and a half. I have been keeping my eye out for an RJ-35, a Suburban 400, and a Suburban 401 to finish out my line up. Then I got a message here on Red Square from a good friend telling me he was letting a few horses go. Including a 400, and most of another! Also another 551 to add to the line up, with a rat rod flavor, as well as a raider 12. So, a little trading later, we came to an agreement! Also thrown in were a couple of extra engines. Included was a Clinton 1200, with the wrong base and missing the carb, but it will be a good mate for my RJ-58! Supposedly the K90 for the one 400 needs a rebuild, anybody have any recommendations were to get it rebuilt and an approximate price? I also realized something, I have a fair number of round hood nut roaster (see signature) but only ONE plow blade to share amongst them. No other attachments, just a single plow blade. I need to track down some attachments! Here are some pictures, enjoy!

1 pointIs this a wheel horse cultivator? The guy i bought it from says he thought he bought it from a wheel horse dealer. He said the thing on top is a potato picker.

1 pointI picked this Lawn/garden cart about a week ago at an auction. I thought it was nice, not only because it is Wheel Horse , but also because of its size. The thing is 4 foot long! I don't have one any bigger.... yet..... I have got one coming Saturday that I don't know if it can be even considered a lawn cart because of its size! I will post a little peek of that cart Back to the wheel horse cart, how old is it? It looks early 90's to me. That's just me anyway...

1 pointMy other "addiction" is boat building. One of my first boats was a 15' skiff that I built around a pair of Briggs & Stratton powered trash pumps. Boat was a hit at the local boat shows, someone asked my name and a buddy yelled out "JetMan", the name stuck. The boat is long gone, we burned it after a major frame failure while fishing in the ocean. Link to a short video of mt jet boat idling at the dock: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37tCtlztX4s&list=UUK3E0Pur68BzWQi7H3YwIGQ Dan a.k.a. Jet Man Dan

1 pointDitto to what Geno said. At first I thought this was the tractor you traded my friends brother for. That one ran nice. Might not have looked the best but it ran nice. Where in the line up is that one? Kyle

1 pointI did figure it out. Inside are some bronze bushing the one the yoke went into was worn bad. I found all the parts at McMaster carr. Put it back together and everything is nice and snug. Now I have to figure out how to repair the key way in the input shaft because it's badly worn. Thinking about filling it out to a 1/4 inch key.

1 pointBack in the old days when cars had carbs, we would routinely slowly pour water down the carb to decarbon. Of course, all those engines were cast iron and in some cases the intake manifolds were CI as well. It was hard to tell if it ever did any good.

1 pointYeah, the old boys tend to be nocturnal till the girls are ready. I usually only get night pics before Nov 1. Then they get a little reckless and can be seen anytime. Our bow season is Oct 1 thru Nov 15, with a 3 day doe only inline season thrown in there in late Oct. Rifle is Dec 1 thru Dec 14. Then bow and Flintlock is Dec 26 thru Jan 10. I hear ya on the inline. I use mine in Md. where they have a bucks only season and my .50 will shoot with my .270 out to 100yds.

1 pointThat is Sooooo pretty! Almost too nice to take out to work! I'll try the hammer trick on the hood this spring. I have the Cozy Cab and the two-stage blower on it this winter, so I have to live with it for now. I don't think putting water into a hot cylinder is a good idea. I would feel bad if it took care of the carbon, but cracked the block in the process. I've seen it done without damage, but I plan to take mine apart and scrub it out the old fashioned way. Your choke problem sounds like a dirty carb, but I would also replace all your old fuel lines, and check to see that you have a strong fuel pump. I've been impressed by how ratty the interior of old fuel lines looked in my last few tractors. That crap has to be breaking loose and getting into my carb. I now have a spare carb, and it is very, very clean. Next carb issue I have, the new carb goes on, tractor goes back to work, and i deal with the faulty carb when I have time.

1 pointbattery decal goes inside the hood stand above the pto on the 400 series, I'm thinking the 500 would a similar position, even though the sheet metal is different. nice job by the way...

1 pointIts a sad day again. But many will never know about Dec. 7th, in years to come. As I layed around today feeling like crap. Snoozing on and off and flipping through the channels. Not ONE WORD did I hear. And then I remembered, didnt the government make notice we wouldnt have anything said about this day any more? Not 100 percent sure, but I believe thats so. Regardless, I will be one never to forget. As my father was there that day. He joined the Navy in the summer of 41, a seventeen year old kid from Elizabeth, nj. No work, no jobs, so thats what pop did. Little did he knowcwhat was to follow. As he said to me and my brother many times over the years. How lucky he thought he was. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Aboard the battleship the USS Pennsylvania, gunners mate, turret 2. The main guns on the fore of the ship. well pop, I will never forget, and I will carry the banner of rememberence for you and your shipmates till I am no more. so to you dad, and all the old time sailors and servicemen that were there that day. I salute you all. You are part of americas greatest generation.
-
1 pointCBS Sunday Morning did a short piece this morning on Pearl Harbor 73 years ago today; and NBC Nightly News had a piece on the USS Colorado (BB-45) that missed Pearl Harbor but saw the most days in action of the Battleships. I am currently reading a book on the brave USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) that was lost in Leyte Gulf. It's a good read, Glenn. My dad was a "grunt" in the European Theater during WWII and made sure that my brother and I spent our duty on ships!

1 pointThank you Mate. I have had a lot of fun making those videos, and I am humbled at how many people have used them to fix their transmissions. It was a pleasure working with you. My favorite video is the one "Watching Paint Dry"...might even be my best effort.
-
1 pointLet me also thank you for the absolutely awesome videos you have regarding these transmissions. They are a valuable tool in understanding their inner workings . To be able while working on one to go and watch you doing it and explaining the process is not only a source of confidence boosting but a valuable education. I found your you tube page and bookmarked it so I can immediately have all videos on hand. They definitely should be placed all together somewhere in this forum for everyone to be able to access them on demand without much searching. Thank you very much Stevasaurus .
-
1 pointThanks Ken and all. After being in this for 5 months I think that is what my mission has become. These tractors must be saved and the brand as it was should continue. I guess what I will become is not only a collector as over a dozen of them and many attachments are not for sale, but also an "old" Wheel Horse dealer complete with sales, service, and warranty. Thanks Ken for helping me see what my true mission is.

1 pointGot the tins on. I have a set of decals from redo your horse. They look great! I still have to adjust valves etc. I will post my progress.

1 pointi have a 308-8 that threw a rod years ago,way before i had a computer so a replacement was near1800 back then,i didnt know about buying a block, but the crank was toast too,cam shaft, every thing so my local shop said buy a whole engine, well that was way too much and in my opinion 8 hp is too small for my needs, the orig motor only lasted 10 years and i maintained it all the way,i have greased it every oil change and it shows, all the joints are good, deck spindles sre mint too, anyway i put a 13 hp honda in 1996,and loved it since,(im a true kohler guy though,if i could have any engine given to me it would be the k or magnum 16hp)im now on my second honda,i didnt tighten the air filter once and alot of dust got in and from there she went down hill, when i joined the square it got me back into my horse and i got another honda for it,its my mutt and it was my first from new,and it will be the last to leave, which will be never
