    Here's a cool 1930's Ford Doodlebug tractor that I am getting this Sunday! It has a lot of potential for sure. I won't change it a lot but just try to get it operational. I was going to buy this before I got sick earlier in the year but couldn't go get it afterwards. Now that I am getting back to normal I called the old timer to see if he still had it. He said he still has it and was wondering if I still wanted it. We made the deal for the 2nd time and now I can go get it asap! It looks to be a 1930's Ford Model TT 1 and a 1/2 ton truck frame, motor and 4 speed trans. Should be a cool project. Check out the cool distributor among other cool stuff! The owner has a set of front tires, metal seat and a steering wheel too. He also has a rear end for it too but wants another $100 for it. I told him I didn't want the rearend.

    Today I picked up my first. A 416-8 with a kohler magnum. Got a deck and plow with it. Couldn't get my old JD 111 out of the garage fast enough. Now I can actually say I have a real tractor.

    Getting the '90 520-8 up 'n runnin' was and is a joy. Heard some poor stuff 'bout the Onan but, all is fine now. Every time I took the Stallion out to work 'n play, my heart skipped, beat fast, and my anxiety grew to unbelievable levels. Hurt. Too bad I had to ride the Horse with my eyes open. Geeze was I T'd off! I fixed the poor Stallion with Mr. Pettit's wonderful expert assistance. Was like heavens opened and the sun shined on the old '90 520-8, a new life! Glen's medicine is better for me and like a seasoned vet the Horse can now breathe relief while crusin' the property. Thanks Mr. Pettit! I'm goin' to look around your Horse Pharmacy!

    just got this to replace my gt 1142. the gt has served me very very well for the last two years but i wanted to upgrade. so ive been looking for awhile and came across this one only about 20 minutes away! so i went ahead and got her. now it didnt come with any attachments but i am going to use the deck off the gt. also, i put my plow, chains and weights on it for this winter. i think it will do very well and hopefully earn its keep. now my future plans are to get new front tires for it, a 48 inch mower deck and maybe some paint and new seat. ive already fallen in love with this thing. just hope it can be as good if not better than the gt. anybody that has a mower deck for sale, please let me know. id like to find one soon so i can have it all ready for this spring. let me now what ya'll think!

    I'm putting the cart before the horse on this one but I wanted to thank forum member COD (Steve) for loaning me a defective WH418a indicator pcb to develop a repair test fixture. Steve, I will post the full "story" behind the repair but I wanted to let you know how your contribution will make it possible to effectively and economically repair and upgrade indicator boards for WH 300 and 400 series tractors . Many more secrets have been given up as to how the indicator board functions and what the various failure modes are for the individual components on the board. I was able to make modifications to the circuitry to VASTLY increase the reliability of the board assembly. I'm sure the test jig will evolve as I investigate any wiring changes need to accommodate the 300 series tractors. Right now wires are everywhere!

    Only drove it around the parking lot but yes, it was very comfortable. Adjustable seat and tilt wheel. I will say, the power steering is nice! Very smooth. Idle is set a little high but I am going to change fuel filter/air filter/engine oil next week and then see if I can adjust it down a notch. From what I have read this seems to be the same Daihatsu that is in the Simplicity as a 24hp. Maybe just a injector pump tweak? We'll see. If that is all it is I may have to adjust it. If there is more to it I am not doing anything. I want to keep the reliability where it belongs. Oh, and speaking of Simplicity, I have a Simplicity and am on the Simplicity user forum as well. I know I am repeating myself but this forum is by far the best out of any user forum I have seen or been a member of. Don't get me wrong, there are great guys on that site, too but the way this site is set up and how everything just flows. Hands down #1.

    Haven't had a chance to take pics yet. Here are some pics previous owner sent me prior to purchase. It definitely needs some cleaning up. A new seat/cover, a front bumper cover, a good compounding and some new decals. I plan on changing the oil, coolant, hydro fluid/filter, spark plugs , filters, etc...All the tires look recent. Power steering works great. No obvious leaks. Valve cover either needs to be snugged-down or gasket replaced. Deck has new center spindle shaft and bearings. Originally came with a power-flow bagger but the previous owner did not get it from PO before him. At least the sheave is still there. Hours are around 740. I forgot the actual number. It came with the grader blade, deck, and weights. One weight is cracked pretty good. Looking for a replacement. As well as a set of 2 link chains. I'd love to find a set of rubber chains if anyone has a set going unused.

    My C-85 was suffering from not getting traction in the back, so I made a rear weight box for it. As a result the front end of my tractor was getting light. My little engine (although very powerful) didn't counteract all the weight I had in the back very well, so I made a front weight carrier (bottom photo), put on front wheel weights (which were yellow, but I fixed that), and snow hog tires and it steers pretty good now and has great traction. If I had known about the wrapping the roller chain around the tires idea though, I think I would have gone with that option, instead of buying the snow tires. This what I've done to mine to make it work better, good luck with yours!

    Thanks Geno funny you should ask about decals. They are sitting out in the garage waiting for me to put them on. With Terry's Holiday Sale going on I couldn't put off getting them. I'll try to get them put on this weekend if the weather turns out as nice as predicted.

    Dang, John..I am just outside of Bel Air, MD and gas is 2.59/gal and diesel is 2.99/gal...lucky to have it go down but they are still making billions off of us each year...scumbags! I feel sorry for people who are self-employed and have to drive diesel trucks/equipment all day...It's really hard on the operator-owned guys.

    Ok Brian and Dan. I've slept on it and regarding the welded on gear. I'm guessing now, but the gear wouldn't be welded on from the get go because you can't change the bearing. In a pass car or light truck with torque tube drive ( this trans) the o/p shaft is -6 splined and mates with a u-joint The joint slips on the spline, and a bolt and heavy washer and screw into the female thread in the end of the main shaft. This preloads the bearing inner race against the shoulder on the shaft and prevents fore and aft movement On our app the u joint is removed and a gear is installed in the secondary reduction box. This gear is pretty small and to mount to the main shaft directly from ford would have to have the -6 spline This I'm sure made it week as the root of the gear tooth and top corner of the spline would be a very thin area with two close corners. I bet MANY cracked from shock loads and the farmer fix was to get a replacement standard plain bore gear with a round bore. I sell gears and to get a splined gear like that is not cheap nor available as standard Easiest way to install that is to bore to spline OD and weld it on. Yes WH could have done this too but to make something that unserviceable at that time ... I'm contemplating rebuilding mine still because it's clean and the bearings feel fine. I may though so we should all come up with a plan to rectify this issue Maybe turning down the main shaft spline to round the gear thickness and milling a keyway. Then using a standard gear with key and re-using the bolt/ washer? Need to check depth in under drive box first This would weaken the main shaft, but the gear will be stronger Getting a splined gear is doable but expensive. We could buy 5 to make them cheaper. how many Sr. We got out there?

    Take a few days off and look what happens! Ok, what happened here, let's see..... On the onset, this may look like the topic suggests "Moral Decline" but that's not what I am seeing. Of course I haven't looked at the topic(s) in question, that will come next and maybe I'll have to play tricks with this post to reflect a differing opinion. But back to my point. I've been here a long time, not as long as a couple of you, but pretty long none the less. From the early days, I've seen bickering which led to people either being banned (for a short time or permanent) or the members deciding that they needed to leave on their own. I've seen things move from this forum to others, and become personal attacks, even about me all across the internet. It has happened in the past, it happens currently and it WILL happen in the future. It's not Moral Decline though, it's human nature. I suspect that since the dawn of time, these issues have occurred, long before forums, and will continue to happen long after. So is that what's happened here? Nope. It's not. What's happened here is this.... The natural course of human events took place. Someone got their feathers ruffled, and a tiff began. Now I still have to find those posts, but suffice it to say I can almost guess at the content already. BUT the reaction TO that reaction... is this thread! This one I have read, and I see everyone lending their positive views on this, justifying the opinions of others by hitting the like button, and of course complimenting the moderators for their efforts in keeping the peace (thank you it is well appreciated). With every altercation like this, we move forward just a little bit more. Sure it may seem like a step back, but it's really 2 steps forward. I'm grateful that we have a member base (regular posters and those who broke their silence to chime in on this topic) who care so much about all of you as well as the forum which we share! Maybe it's a Christmas / Holiday thing, but thank you all for contributing the positive emotions and supporting and enforcing the etiquette which we have become accustom to. This will happen again, and we'll take that step back, but we'll take another 2 forward! Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays / Good Day (for those who don't celebrate)

    As has already been said, the 1045 was a model that was made for only about 3 months in mid to late '64 to use up parts of the old round hoods. They have the old rounded rear fenders and the newer "square hood" introduced for the '65 models. 1045 tractors also have a special hood, tank stand and drive pulley guard that are unique to this model. So, if you buy a 1045, make sure it is mostly complete even if it is in rough shape. Also, the front tires are a special tread and size that are unique to the 1045, so it is a bonus if the tractor still has them. There is some debate about what the "4" in the 1045 stands for. Some say it represents 1964 since Wheel Horse was already making a 1054 tractor. I believe the "4" stands for a special model, since there was also a 1046 made in 1966, so to me the "5" in 1045 stands for 1965 (early model). All Wheel Horse catalogs also list the 1045 as a 1965 model. Here is a picture of mine, which I bought from a forum member a year ago. I really enjoy my 1045 even though it's "retired" and I don't mow with it. Even though it is a short frame tractor like my 854, it feels much more substantial with the bigger wheels and bigger, taller hood. The 1045 is one of my most favorite of Wheel Horses. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about the 1045.

    Its a sad day again. But many will never know about Dec. 7th, in years to come. As I layed around today feeling like crap. Snoozing on and off and flipping through the channels. Not ONE WORD did I hear. And then I remembered, didnt the government make notice we wouldnt have anything said about this day any more? Not 100 percent sure, but I believe thats so. Regardless, I will be one never to forget. As my father was there that day. He joined the Navy in the summer of 41, a seventeen year old kid from Elizabeth, nj. No work, no jobs, so thats what pop did. Little did he knowcwhat was to follow. As he said to me and my brother many times over the years. How lucky he thought he was. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Aboard the battleship the USS Pennsylvania, gunners mate, turret 2. The main guns on the fore of the ship. well pop, I will never forget, and I will carry the banner of rememberence for you and your shipmates till I am no more. so to you dad, and all the old time sailors and servicemen that were there that day. I salute you all. You are part of americas greatest generation.

    With over 10000 members here at Redsquare you are occasionally going to hear something that you are not going to agree with or like what is said . this issue crops up every now again , this is not a moral decline of the forum as the general behaviour of this site is outstandinding & if there is any wrong doing here there are excellent moderators here to stamp out any bad issues , that's why this forum is such an successs.

    Took Mike for his 8 week check up. X-rays show everything i.e. plates, screws and bone parts are where they should be with good signs of healing in the knee and shoulder. He will be in therapy for 6 more weeks, then may be able to start to put weight on the leg. Thanks for your support.

    Well I would like to thank everyone of my Red Square friends who donated to my cancer benefit that was set up by Derek(octfst)Rehberg and his wife Tammy, Mike(55rj35)Wall and his wife Deb, John(brrly1)Campbell who donated the tombstone weights and a few others that helped out on this site! They held the drawing tonight but I couldn't make it up to see it in person. My wife Tammy and I really appreciate all of the donations that you have made! It will definitely help us pay some bills as I have not been able to work for 6 months! This has been a very rough time for my family and very hard on myself personally. I have been through chemo therapy and radiation and I am currently done with that form of torture. I am 3 months past that stuff and just found out that I am currently in remission which means I am cancer free as of now! I do still have some bad side effects from the radiation but it pails in comparison to what I had before the treatment. So once again thanks to everyone who made a donation and some who even made more than one donation! Very cool bunch of guys on this site! Derek has another tombstone weight from John brrly1 that is being raffled off on Sunday so you still have a few more days to make a donation and get another chance at a weight or a flat screen tv, a gas card or a Red Lobster gift card! So get ahold of him or Mike for details. Thanks to God and Thanks to all of you! Now maybe I can get back to my favorite hobby! Keith Hammerhead Jones Ps.     I made the weight on the front of my '73. it weighs 25lbs. while 25lbs wouldn't help your tractor much, you could make something similar in the 50lb+ range. also, you should have plenty of room in front of the 8hp to put some steel or cast iron weights

    Sounds like it may not be getting fuel. You probably have to clean out the gunk in the tank (you may have to replace or remove the screen), I would replace the fuel lines and fuel filter (add one if its not there) all the way to the carb. Try that first, then prime the system and turn it over with the fuel line AFTER the fuel pump disconnected. Gas should squirt out, if not you may have a gunked up fuel pump which will need to be cleaned or replaced. After you do all that and make sure its all working make sure to run some Seafoam or equivalent in the first few tank you run through it. That will help clear out some of the other gunk in the carb if its not too bad.
