13 pointsTake a few days off and look what happens! Ok, what happened here, let's see..... On the onset, this may look like the topic suggests "Moral Decline" but that's not what I am seeing. Of course I haven't looked at the topic(s) in question, that will come next and maybe I'll have to play tricks with this post to reflect a differing opinion. But back to my point. I've been here a long time, not as long as a couple of you, but pretty long none the less. From the early days, I've seen bickering which led to people either being banned (for a short time or permanent) or the members deciding that they needed to leave on their own. I've seen things move from this forum to others, and become personal attacks, even about me all across the internet. It has happened in the past, it happens currently and it WILL happen in the future. It's not Moral Decline though, it's human nature. I suspect that since the dawn of time, these issues have occurred, long before forums, and will continue to happen long after. So is that what's happened here? Nope. It's not. What's happened here is this.... The natural course of human events took place. Someone got their feathers ruffled, and a tiff began. Now I still have to find those posts, but suffice it to say I can almost guess at the content already. BUT the reaction TO that reaction... is this thread! This one I have read, and I see everyone lending their positive views on this, justifying the opinions of others by hitting the like button, and of course complimenting the moderators for their efforts in keeping the peace (thank you it is well appreciated). With every altercation like this, we move forward just a little bit more. Sure it may seem like a step back, but it's really 2 steps forward. I'm grateful that we have a member base (regular posters and those who broke their silence to chime in on this topic) who care so much about all of you as well as the forum which we share! Maybe it's a Christmas / Holiday thing, but thank you all for contributing the positive emotions and supporting and enforcing the etiquette which we have become accustom to. This will happen again, and we'll take that step back, but we'll take another 2 forward! Merry Christmas / Happy Holidays / Good Day (for those who don't celebrate)

4 pointsJust a short video plowing snow at work during Winter Storm Damon Lots of ice falling with the snow. Really hard to shoot video while having gloves on and all the shifting and plow adjustments. This video is dedicated to Craig, Brian, Steve, and Jim D. Also special thanks to my wife and her amazing Chile and Brownies!

3 pointsAs has already been said, the 1045 was a model that was made for only about 3 months in mid to late '64 to use up parts of the old round hoods. They have the old rounded rear fenders and the newer "square hood" introduced for the '65 models. 1045 tractors also have a special hood, tank stand and drive pulley guard that are unique to this model. So, if you buy a 1045, make sure it is mostly complete even if it is in rough shape. Also, the front tires are a special tread and size that are unique to the 1045, so it is a bonus if the tractor still has them. There is some debate about what the "4" in the 1045 stands for. Some say it represents 1964 since Wheel Horse was already making a 1054 tractor. I believe the "4" stands for a special model, since there was also a 1046 made in 1966, so to me the "5" in 1045 stands for 1965 (early model). All Wheel Horse catalogs also list the 1045 as a 1965 model. Here is a picture of mine, which I bought from a forum member a year ago. I really enjoy my 1045 even though it's "retired" and I don't mow with it. Even though it is a short frame tractor like my 854, it feels much more substantial with the bigger wheels and bigger, taller hood. The 1045 is one of my most favorite of Wheel Horses. Please let me know if you have any additional questions about the 1045.

3 pointsFirst, i think Craig gets the credit for the Dupont Rain Dance finish! The tractor was a looker when I got it. We are required to help with snow removal at work. Well after my recent medical issue my shoveling days are over. So I brought Sqonk to work as part of all the other tools I have there. The hospital campus is about 15 acres with lot's of nook and crannies. Perfect for a garden tractor. We have a truck, 2 Kubota utes with plows and a loader tractor. I can cover more ground riding than walking with a shovel too. SAVE A COWBOY,RIDE A HORSE!!!!!!!

2 pointsI could not leave well enough alone. I added a flash controller (bought it from Squonk at the big show) and wired it into the 520. It will have the snow thrower on it so I figure with all the noise, the flashing tail lights will get some attention. the flasher has 10 modes and I didn't show it, but the controller flashes too! not sure if the video will work. let me know if you cannot see the video. using old Photobucket. That's my daughter with the colorful commentary! http://i1125.photobucket.com/albums/l581/varosd/th_IMG_0617_zpss5yzqxu2.mp4

2 pointsBlond moment #1: A blonde cop stops blonde motorist and asks for her driving license. The Motorist scuffles around in her purse and can't find it. She says to the cop, "I must have left it at home officer." The cop says, "Well, do you have any kind of identification?" The motorist scuffles around in her purse again, and finds a pocket mirror. She looks at it and says to the cop, "All I have is this picture of myself." The cop says, "Let me see it, then." So the blonde motorist gives the mirror to the blonde cop, who looks at it, and replies, "Well, if I had known you were a police officer, I wouldn't have even pulled you over. You can go now." Now you went and done it. I am a blond and a retired police officer. My feelings are really hurt. You are a Stereotyper.

2 pointsAnyone who's been on this forum for more then a few years knows that we have seen waves of these issues. It comes and goes but seems to be greater when winter time hits and there's less to do. I for one have been known to have an issue here and there but always get reeled back in. For the most part this forum has had harmony. Then we've had members come along who don't offer anything "POSITIVE or HELPFUL" to the site and use it for there own personal gain or just cause problems. We love helping those who aren't tractor savvy or have a specific issue that they're just not versed in. We have a vast array of talent here that have worked on tractors for years or has specific knowledge wether it be electrical, mechanical, body, paint etc. Most of us have paid our dues one way or another. I guess when someone comes along who doesn't really help or have a need, and just wants to "show boat" or "make money", I know it gets my gall up. There are members here that don't have a ton of post but a lot of those posts have really helped people or gave out great tractor related information. Then there are members who have thousands of posts with nothing really helpful or technical but have tractor related content and that's fine too. But the "LOOK AT ME" or the "ALWAYS FOR SALE" posts I just can't take. Probably the same reason I closed my Facebook account. I don't know what the answer is and I really don't think there is one. I guess it will be up the Mods and Admins to police the forum and decide when enough's enough. Probably could use some "Sargent at Arms" Mods who sole job it is to look for these type of issues and stop them before it gets to far. Just my $0.02

1 pointI'm always enthralled to look through the pictures that everybody posts as they work on, or restore, or modify their horses. Look at not just the horses and the ideas, but also the shop space it's being done in. I've worked outside, I've worked in borrowed space, Home made space, and now finally ... Since I moved in 2010 ... I have my own shop. Thought that I would share with you all, my space ... Now it's still under construction ... I have more drywall, more Lighting, and more wiring to do. I'm also planning to add to the shop this spring, going 15 feet out the side, to provide places to Store, to do the really nasty tear downs, as well as a media blasting Room and maybe a clean Room for painting small parts? Not sure yet. Anyway Onto Photos!

1 pointProbably most all of us now have, or have had, an engine/s that you had to go through some sort of ritual only you knew to get it started - set the choke just so, position the throttle exactly there, cross your fingers, stick you tongue out, etc, etc. and nobody could start it except you! I recently added electric fuel pumps to my most recent horse additions (two C-175s and a D-160) that were somewhat difficult to start, needing full choke and a LOT of spin time. This is hard on the starter and the battery - and my nerves! So I ordered up 3 of those $16 Chinese pumps and got them installed. Well, the pump completely altered my "starting ritual". Started out with the usual full choke and partial throttle - spin, spin, spin, nothing - they were flooding with all that gasoline coming in they werent used to!! So, I have to rethink this. Having had a electric on a D-180 for many years and its 'ritual' was simple - put the choke on and spin it 3-4 revs, then quickly pull the choke back about 1/3-1/2 and it would start right up, leave on a little bit of partial choke and away it'd go after about a minute or so. Well, using that 'ritual' at least got some results, and with some fiddling with choke and throttle positioning, I can now get them lit off pretty quickly. What are some of your "rituals" to get one of your 'babies' going

1 pointThe plow on Lane's 633 is the correct plow. But any short frame plow will work. There's a plow that has 2 settings for short or long frame that will also work. The short frame is common used till 1968. The one on Lane's was only used a couple of years & are hard to find. Your 70's plow is a long frame. you could make it work. it would stick out further & would have to change your hook up at the lift point.

1 pointMight want to put in a requisition for a new plow edge!! Mike..........

1 pointToday was a good dayl Cousins Timbo and Toddbo stopped over and wired up some of the lights. I was focused on working with the two roofers who helped install the rake edge metal and ridge cap. I have to say it was not easy and pretty scary as the standing seam panels are very slippery for sure. They had very specialized bracket clamps that attach to the standing seams. It was dark by the time we got that done. I still have to install the gutter straps, downspouts and snow rail. Here are a few pics showing the rake edge metal and ridge cap. I am officially watertight

1 pointPriced out a garage door @ home depot last night ... good thing I was sitting down!! HOLY CRAP! However, I priced a higher end door, because well...I only want to do it once. I'm doing it right. A CloPay 9 foot tall 12 foot wide door from the Classic Series with the 18.4 Rvalue insulation and of course....windows! A tad over 3k installed ... Again ... good thing I was sitting down. There was a muscle spasm when he gave me the total, however, I cannot tell you where ... this is a family forum!

1 pointELECTRICALLY, the circuits are identical. The quality of the parts used and the quality of your workmanship will determine if the repair is better or worse than the original circuit. Use adhesive lined crimp connectors and / or adhesive lined heatshrink tubing.
