12 points...more stuff in my garage. Back in November, Brandon (bmsgaffer) posted a "haulin' help" ad for some horse stuff that he was purchasing located about 30 minutes from me. Originally, the pick up was to be a snow thrower and a vac/bagger. However, by the time the deal was done, he had purchased everything. A 1996 416-H with 48" deck, a 42" tall chute snow thrower, a vac/bagger, snow plow, 10 cu. ft. cart, a pull-behind spreader, and front and rear wheel weights. Brandon decided that he only wanted the vac/bagger, snow thrower and front wheel weights, so...I bought the rest from him last night. The snow thrower and bagger is being palletized and delivered to Fastenal for continued hauling. Edit: Pictures added:

6 pointsThree of my uncle's just happen to be of that age when the bombs hit. Actually yesterday my mom and me had this discussion about this. She told me you should have seen the look on gandma's and grandpa's face when the news hit home knowing that the three boys would be called up. They all three seen heavy battle but they all made it home thankfully. This is kind of why I buy American!

5 pointsWell, the title say it all, and its true. The Red Fever has set in, and its looking great! I made a Sunday evening trip down south to pick up a horse, or two, maybe three and a half. I have been keeping my eye out for an RJ-35, a Suburban 400, and a Suburban 401 to finish out my line up. Then I got a message here on Red Square from a good friend telling me he was letting a few horses go. Including a 400, and most of another! Also another 551 to add to the line up, with a rat rod flavor, as well as a raider 12. So, a little trading later, we came to an agreement! Also thrown in were a couple of extra engines. Included was a Clinton 1200, with the wrong base and missing the carb, but it will be a good mate for my RJ-58! Supposedly the K90 for the one 400 needs a rebuild, anybody have any recommendations were to get it rebuilt and an approximate price? I also realized something, I have a fair number of round hood nut roaster (see signature) but only ONE plow blade to share amongst them. No other attachments, just a single plow blade. I need to track down some attachments! Here are some pictures, enjoy!

5 pointsIts a sad day again. But many will never know about Dec. 7th, in years to come. As I layed around today feeling like crap. Snoozing on and off and flipping through the channels. Not ONE WORD did I hear. And then I remembered, didnt the government make notice we wouldnt have anything said about this day any more? Not 100 percent sure, but I believe thats so. Regardless, I will be one never to forget. As my father was there that day. He joined the Navy in the summer of 41, a seventeen year old kid from Elizabeth, nj. No work, no jobs, so thats what pop did. Little did he knowcwhat was to follow. As he said to me and my brother many times over the years. How lucky he thought he was. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Aboard the battleship the USS Pennsylvania, gunners mate, turret 2. The main guns on the fore of the ship. well pop, I will never forget, and I will carry the banner of rememberence for you and your shipmates till I am no more. so to you dad, and all the old time sailors and servicemen that were there that day. I salute you all. You are part of americas greatest generation.

5 pointsMy dad...still kicking on his way to 92 years old...was in the AF as a bombardier flying on a B-24 out of Italy over the Alps. he was about 21 at the time and the OLDEST of the crew....the pilot being just 19 years old..... http://www.wwiimemorial.com/registry/search/pframe.asp?HonoreeID=1838015&popcount=1&tcount=1

5 pointsMy Dad was in the Navy from 1941-1945 as an aviation mechanic. My uncle was on the Indianapolis when it went down. He was one of the fortunate survivors but never would talk about it. I have always wondered what incredible stories he must have had that he couldn't share.
-
5 pointsGrandpa and great uncle were in the Army at the time. Grandpa had double duty. He was a tank driver and he was a nurse. Yes nurse. When he was not actively driving the tank, they would put him in whatever "make shift" hospital to assist with any medical needs. Rob

4 pointsWhen I got the tractor I think the prior owner mowed thru saw dust for a month straight. A little compressed air and WD40 sprayed liberally on the tractor and wiped off with a rag works wonders.
-
4 pointsThis is a reply to a post Brandon has removed so you guys don't think I'm being repeditive, or think I'm going crazy. Flipping is flipping Brandon. Definition from Wiki - Flipping is a term used primarily in the United States to describe purchasing a revenue-generating asset and quickly reselling (or "flipping") it for profit. Restoring and reselling is completely different from flipping. Takes a lot of hard work, time and cash invested to restore and resell. No one should ever even consider me a flipper when I am doing this - Before - After -

4 pointsI have to agree with the comments here but with a twist. I actually watch very little TV but when I do watch something like Pawn Stars, American Pickers or whatever I just do it for the entertainment value and don't take it too seriously. You've got the actors that play their parts well and then the non-actors that do a good job with their scripts. Obviously the non-actors know and see that they are being filmed and I highly doubt that many of them could make for an entertaining show without their scripts.
-
4 pointsBe careful Bob. You see what happened to Martin. Lol. Great looking 416
-
4 pointsI liked the concept of the show when it first started, but after I found out how much of it was scripted, I watch it now with much skepticism. Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, Survivor...the list goes on and on. The show producers must think we are stupid or gullible. I guess we are if we keep watching.

4 pointsMy Grandpa was there, and while Not stationed on the USS Arizona, he was on Board during the attack. I am proud to say that I have his medals, and commendations. I too am sad that they are not continuing the Pearl Harbor Ceremony... Several times today, I took time to say thank you to my grandpa, I know he's looking down and hopefully he's proud of what he see's , I certainly am proud to say he was my Grandpa!

3 pointsmy Snow Plow has been missing the angle lever since I got it ...NOT COOL! I'm not about to pony up the cash for a new one from Toro, and Honestly Geno just wants far too much for the NOS one he has So I made my own ... Nothing Spectacular but thought I'd share so others can duplicate... Simple stock steel from TSC a Vice and my Jewlers Torch. Oh and a Hammer and Adjustable Wrench (to aid in bending and squaring) Still have the squeeze lever to weld up and mount then she'll be all ready for paint.
-
3 pointsI figured since I have a few horses just laying around I might as well use one this christmas so here are a few photos.

3 pointsI just picked up this 1995 314 hydro. Doesn't look to bad after a cleanup. I've been adjusting the linkage from the Fwd/Rev lever to the cam plate on top of the hydro unit. The 314 was real slow in reverse. Now it's better but I lost some foward speed. I'll get it. This 314 has the Eaton 1100.

3 pointsInspired by bmsgaffer's post with him and his son I grabbed the camera as me and the boy ran out the door for a quick break in ride on the almost complete 856. I say almost because she still is a bit naked without her hood. This is 856 is my only wheel horse and it fell into my lap a few years back. She was stripped down and in between that and how she sits now has been a solid few years or more. I picked at it while buying our first house and also having our son 1-1/2 years ago. Its been a long slow project but im happy with the results and few modifications i made to make it my own. The 856 is my only tractor and mostly will serve the duty of dragging a trailer around and making runs aout back to the pile with lawn debris, etc and plowing/blowing when the snow flys. Here in CT you never know if your going to get inches or feet in a winter. I have mower deck but don't intend to mow with it. The K181S was rebuilt and so far hasn't skipped a beat. Probably ready for 1st oil change in a few more hours of run time. Between plowing with it last storm and the fun joy rides ive taken I would like to think i did everything right. Probably need to tweek the high and low rpms alittle bit but for no shes a runner and i haven't been pushing her to long. What my son doesn't know yet is that this will be his tractor someday. As long as im still on this earth this 856 isn't leaving my eyes and the both of us will build years worth of memories with it. Like i said this horse fell in my lap and the more i think of it the more im wondering if it was some "meant to be" thing. My son loves tractors so much its silly. They are his favorite thing. On a side note i appreciate all the help from members here that got me to getting the tractor to this point. I know i had a few hang ups along the way.

3 pointsLooking great. Nice haul. Glad to someone is getting something besides Geno.

3 pointsWhat do people do with those levers? I have had 4 different plows and 2 of the 4 were missing the angle lever! I bet there is an abandoned warehouse somewhere full of these levers. Or……It maybe aliens! Good job on that one!
-
3 pointsTo be clear, I was prepared to have it ALL shipped back here. I offered it to him at a good deal since he treated me VERY well and has been fantastic to work with. And anyway, all his other machines are so nice he needed something he could do some dirty work with!

2 pointsI was messing around with my tires last night and pulled the pass side rear wheel and hub. Grabbed the key and wow was I surprised to see that it was cracked on both sides almost all the way across. Keep in mind the originals that came out showed no signs of cracking but were replaced as a "maintenance" item while I was going through the tractor. The originals were worn but mostly just bolt marked from holding the hub on. I ordered the new ones using Toro part #. There is no excessive play in the shaft key way nor the hub that I can tell. Im now thinking I should pull the driver side and see what that one looks like. The tractor has hardly been ridden with these new keys...........junk? Not only that I haven't even really put this rebuilt horse into work yet. I lightly plowed with it two weeks ago for 1/2 hour and have simply ridden it around the compound for break in time. Anyone else seen this before? Both are new to the machine. Im guessing less then a few hours of actual seat time on them. I can take a picture if that helps.

2 pointsI wondered why my truck always wants to veer at the Brookville Exit on I-80. It likes to divine if it's near Wheelhorse stuff! Now I know!
-
2 pointsI couldn't agree more. See that horse barn in the back round? That is exactly where he is going to be weekend mornings helping his mother shovel you know what when he is old enough. No video games for this kid. I didn't need them when I was growing up and he wont also.
-
2 pointsGreat pics, keep up the good work with the boy and the horse! "Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it."Prov. 22:6 I believe that goes for teaching them about wheel horse tractors too!!
-
2 pointsI don't have any experience with the 42" low chute model by Wheel Horse but I do have the 42" tall chute by Toro. Looking at the two models at the "ownership" change, the 06-42ST05 was by Wheel Horse and the last low chute with cable rotation. The first Toro model was the 06-42ST07 which has the tall chute with the auger-geared rotation. The (snow) auger is the same for both, #4467. But the wrapper and adapter are different. Was it Toro that improved the single stage? Or was the original just as good? Looking at just a few of the other manufacturers, Case; Cub Cadet; Simplicity; and Bolens, all stayed with low discharge chutes. Gravely only offered a two stage in various widths that was legendary until Ariens bought them out and switched to the less effective Ariens design. My opinion is that Wheel Horse got it right and Toro improved it. They had the opportunity to change the design with the 5xi, 260 series, and other models but kept the design. They could have even done what Ariens did and change it to the Snowhound design - but didn't. An interesting side to this discussion is the on-line history of Toro does not mention Wheel Horse but does include other companies that it acquired. http://www.thetorocompany.com/companyinfo/history_brochure.pdf

2 pointsNice! My son was the 9th. We actually have #2 in the oven and he or she is due the 12th. I was born the 27th. We will likely have three May birthdays.

2 pointsVery nice haul. You are on the road to recovery when you can admit you have an addiction!
-
2 pointsCool Mike. The way you did that makes it easy to see where we disagreed on the games but I do have a question. Are you thinking the Chick-fil A and Birmingham bowls will end in ties?
-
2 pointsYou are oh so right Sean. Really nice looking bunch you got there!
-
2 pointsI wouldnt know myself..........to green yet on price figureing. Someone will chime in. Its not fair to pick on cheap,,,I ,, errr,,mean gene. Lol Glenn
-
2 pointsWelcome to Thats a tough question to ask.. Because I would pay much more than.... say..... Geno.. But it really depends on how bad you want it.
-
2 pointsI wouldn't say I'm stuck with it. I bought it. That was my decision all the way. I'm not going to do a complete restoration, but I will clean it up and add a few pieces of bling. I'd like to find a front end loader to put on it. I have lots of use for one of those.
-
2 pointsAMEN! I never paid for cable since I left my parents house and my wife doesn't miss it either. My sons will learn to get up and go do something instead of surfing hundreds of channels. (And, almost everything of any value is available online if you dont have to watch it the day it airs... So we have a computer running the TV)
-
2 pointsThat's exactly why I "cut the chord", and have an antenna on my roof now, just like when I was a kid. Free TV...what's that?? Instead of paying for 200+channels with nothing on, I now have about 40 channels with nothing on, but don't pay anything for it. Interesting to me that "Nova" is still on. I used to watch that as a kid.

2 pointsDecals came in this morning, thanks Terry. Seems the post office was the hold up, took them 10 days to get them here.
-
2 pointsSo wait, you are telling me you WONT sell me that lever for $10,000!? I thought we had a DEAL MAN...

2 pointsI picked up this 1979 C-141 from the show in Kent back in September. Before I had even left the show I had recouped the money I paid for it plus made $20 by selling the engine which was blown and the seat which was trashed. I dropped in an 8hp pull start Kohler. Had to rebuild the motion control mechanism as it was frozen up and the prior owner had broken the lever off. I ordered a few new pieces from Toro and a used lever from Ebay. Now the motion control works perfectly and the brake pedal moves it to neutral like it should. I wasn't sure of the status of the hydro itself but the guy I got it from said he had owned it for years and it worked fine. When I got it home I pull the transmission dipstick out and the fluid looked like it was just changed with no water present. After putting the 8hp in and rebuilding the motion control I put a temporary gas tank on and fired it up. The tractor drives great and the hydro seems to work fine. The seat thats on it I had laying around. Don't know what I'm gonna do with this thing. I have all the covers and other parts to make it complete. Who knows! Maybe i'll play mad scientist and see what I can come up with! Here is a link to a video of it: http://vid298.photobucket.com/albums/mm279/fireman14344/1979%20C-141/1979%20C-141_zpswsebs1kh.mp4

2 points45 Years ago in the very first "Squonk Bowl " Championship game The West End Rams defeated the Caroline St. Cougars 129-18 It was played at "Loder Field" on Duncan St. in Clyde N.Y. I had a couple of sacks in that game if I recall correctly

2 pointsCBS Sunday Morning did a short piece this morning on Pearl Harbor 73 years ago today; and NBC Nightly News had a piece on the USS Colorado (BB-45) that missed Pearl Harbor but saw the most days in action of the Battleships. I am currently reading a book on the brave USS Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413) that was lost in Leyte Gulf. It's a good read, Glenn. My dad was a "grunt" in the European Theater during WWII and made sure that my brother and I spent our duty on ships!
-
2 pointsToday was a good dayl Cousins Timbo and Toddbo stopped over and wired up some of the lights. I was focused on working with the two roofers who helped install the rake edge metal and ridge cap. I have to say it was not easy and pretty scary as the standing seam panels are very slippery for sure. They had very specialized bracket clamps that attach to the standing seams. It was dark by the time we got that done. I still have to install the gutter straps, downspouts and snow rail. Here are a few pics showing the rake edge metal and ridge cap. I am officially watertight
