As some as you may know. I had a little Medical issue a week and a half ago. With winter approaching I knew it would be a challenge to get tractors ready for winter. Craig (AMC Rules) offered to come over and give me a hand. And when he found out I was looking for an older tractor to plow snow at work he offered me his 1267 at a great price. He drove the 5 HOURS ONE WAY! today. I needed a plow for it and Brian (buckrancher) had one and after driving from CT. and back yesterday he brought it up this morning. Both the tractor and plow needed some love and good old fashioned thrashing to make everything work. We filled all the tires with RV antifreeze but 1 of Craig's tires he wanted filled going to need a tube so out the fluid came. Stevasaurus called in on Skype and brought Jim D. along. We had a mini M & G going with a ton of laughs. We even got the plow on the tractor!!! Wife made chili and brownies and we let Steve and Jim know what they were missing. I can't thank Craig and Brian enough for all the help and Steve and Jim for the back row heckling. Here are some pics. I even got Craig on Elvis! I called it Sqonk Fest instead of Squonk Fest because SOMEONE has trouble with the letter U!

Followed up on a craigslist post today and came home very happy! Here's the haul, C-120 with near perfect 42" deck, 42" snowplow, snowblower, and rear moldboard plow. Everything is in really nice shape, even got all the manuals. All for the tidy sum of $400.

Just finished her today. Pulled her into the front yard and took a few photos. I am lacking the parking brake lever but thanks to Kelly from this forum I will have one in a few days. Thanks again Kelly. I also have a set of red grease caps coming from Glen who is also on this forum and they look like a real nice product. The 854 runs great and no leaks to be found, so far. Thanks everyone for answering questions , without this forum it would be difficult to restore one of these guys. Looking for the next one...

It was a unique experience overall. The add had been on Craigslist for over a week when I called. No where in the add did it mention that these were Wheel Horse. The add title only said farm equipment. Click on the add and there were pictures of the equipment, but still no mention of Wheel Horse. The other thing that was unique, was that the gentelman was deaf. When calling him on the phone an interpreter through a video screen would sign him my talking, and then they would relay back what he would sign. During the pickup through hand signals and him reading my lips we were able to communicate quite easily. He made sure I knew how everything worked, and gave me a big hug when I was ready to leave. From what I could gather he may have owned these since new, and I could tell he was genuinly happy to see it going to a good home.

Finally all the tractors are put away for winter storage! Took all the batteries out and added fuel treatments...Even made room for more tractors.....

That's what makes this hobby so special that these guys are willing to travel for hours to help another damsel in distress. Well done chaps

We got the rest of the front sided and the 3 upper front windows installed. Also got the bulk of his tractors into the barn and the RJs up on the shelf.

I've had this B for quite a few years now, and it's been my constant go to, and ALWAYS starts and is able to do everything I need it to, even when ... it probably shouldn't - haha With that being said, it's time that my favorite gets some TLC. It's going to be slow going ... as I'm still using it as my go to tractor. Sheet metal first - then I'll do the frame and other bits while the motor is at the machine shop. Will be using Base/Clear urethane and High build primer (its much more forgiving on the small imperfections when I block it out to be sure its straight) Pictures! Started with the seat pan ... It is in great shape just the paint is WAY tired so I'm just hitting it with some 60 grit paper on the DA. Geno media blasted this hood for me a week ago, Sandblasting profiles the metal so I had to run the DA over it too, but it's come out alright ... there are quite a few dents that need to be fixed but nothing 'major' - unlike the original hood. It's just in a self etching primer to allow me to bodywork it. Stay Tuned for more!

My steering shaft cut in two my lower shaft with the top half from a allis B both parts ready for welding heres the output shaft the harden pin is wore but useable I machined the end of the steering box deeper for a new soft plug Brian

Couldn't wait to try out my C-120 that I picked up yesterday, so I hooked the plow up I got with it and went to the garden. Conditions were marginble at best, but I didn't care, had a smile on my face the whole time. Tractor and plow both worked great. Mounted the snowblower this afternoon so I'm ready for snow now.

I used to go to Sylva NC frequently (like every other week) and door to door got down to be just under five hours ... You're probably looking at 6.5 from where you're at ... but I think it'll be worth the trip

Geno, I like your idea. Theres no chance of me getting away from work and family this fall but if this happens in the spring I'd like to go. Keep us posted, this could be the best chance for the few of us in the south to attend an event without a 12 hour one way drive.

Yea I think people arent realizing you are doing that on an XI... I am imagining people want to see with the standard hump on an earlier tractor... the XI is like getting in and out of a car.. cheating, really...

One thing I forgot to add to my post. My wife actually asked me to verify the dates for the big show next June. She wants to lock in some vacation time so we can go.

I'd have to say I'm pretty lucky. When we lived in Indiana and I always had a herd of 8-10 my wife didn't get involved but definitely appreciated the work and fun I had with them. It helped that I had 2 dedicated to mowing in the summer, 1 dedicated to a sickle bar mower, a parade 854, and in the winter 1 with a blade and 1 with a blower to handle 800' of driveway smack in the middle of the Lake Michigan lake effect snow belt. After moving here I had sold all of them but the 854 and that was sold down here because we were traveling around in our motorhome. After getting tired of traveling we bought a house and I bought a big box Junk Deere because Wheel Horses were so hard to find down here. After a couple of years of fighting that thing we set out in earnest to find a real tractor. She looked as hard as I did. That's when we found the 2005 Classic GT on the gulf coast. She was thrilled that I got it because she knew how much better they were than the green and was tired of me at it. When I found the Suburban 400 and to restore she was quite happy that I had one to restore again. She also truly enjoys the fun I have on here.

I be using my 68 commando 8 with 42in plow and i have a 32inch blower for it from hammerhead 1987 312-8 with 42inch blower with wheel horse extra attachment fuel tank and my b80 -8 speed with a 48inch plow and i just repower it with 16hp kohler

You said you are running it with a jumper from the battery to the coil. So please answer the question, have you measured the voltage at the coil when it stops? Is there still 12 volts there? He said that he put a new coil on the tractor. Not likely a second one would go bad in the exact way the first one did. Also if he is not getting a spark, it makes no difference how much gas gets there. None of this makes any sense to me. Look at the information I have posted from the Toro Demystification Guide.

The way yesterday started I almost knew it was going to be a rough day. Headed out to meet the guys and possibly take a trip back down to the Wapak swapmeet but low and behold not even three blocks from the house the Land yacht got rearended. Trust me I was not a very happy camper. I don't think the insurance company will be happy either when they get the Bill for a new bumper and a few other things. So with that happening I almost or pretty much knew my day was going down the tubes. Dino guess what, I'll take IOWA over Illinois as if you didn't know. What was the name off that other team you follow, oh yeah there the ones that blew it again yesterday. Have they used up all there bye weeks yet? They sure could use some! Thanks for all the positive comments everyone, and yes I am very proud of this bad boy. I am sure everyone on this forum has felt the same way after rescuing a Wheel Horse. Looking forward to my next Horse project, they are like tattoos, one is not enough.

I have increased my ownership to three 5xi this past summer. Being older and tall, I appreciate the ease to get on the tractor as opposed to the more classic Wheel Horse. No muddy footprints on the seat! I know that I appreciate the open station on them, and now that I have put the cab on my newest for winter it is even better. The only improvements that I would make to the 518xi is to find a 520xi steering wheel. The 1" inch larger diameter makes it easier to steer plus it is thicker. I only say this because of owning both ( and now the 523Dxi with power steering is even better) that you would appreciate the difference. The snowplow is probably the most common attachment (besides mower decks) so you should find one eventually. Toro did make the GT-series tractors for New Holland from 1997 to 2006 so that is another source on the used market. The spindles are the same for all five models of the 5xi. The only main difference between the five models are the engines; no cruise control and taillights on the 518xi; and the 518xi and 520xi with manual steering versus the 520Lxi, 522xi and 523Dxi having power steering. There were upgrades (or more cost effective manufacturing) after the initial years of some components. Problem areas are few. The axles seals seem to be an issue, although with my three I only suspect one may have a problem. The Kohler installation requires it to be pulled for cleaning the grass clippings after a few hundred hours of mowing. There is a long thread on this. You cannot go wrong with this model tractor

Let me get this straight. You tore down a completely good K-341. You are going to convert it to a Magnum style engine. You are thinking about decking the block but don't want to spend $200 for a cam grind. Frankly, and you said you wanted tips, even if it was "ugly", you are wasting your time and money. You had a perfectly good engine good for at least 20 years if taken care of and haven't got a clue about building an engine. Now you are asking for suggestuons? Next time you run across a K-341 in that kind of shape, PM me and let me get it away from you. You asked.
