7 pointsOk guys. Me and the brother just picked it up. The 50 dollar wheel horse. The owner let me have it for 40 dollars. 10 bucks off. At least it was saved from the scrap heap. AND only about 3 miles from my home. Glenn

6 pointsHere it is 4:00 in the morning and cant sleep, up looking for something to work on As I wrote in another post that I am being treated for cancer. I feel like 40 again. The Oncologist told me it would be like this .He also told me it will not last for long. He said next week I will be sick as hell. This is because of the Steroid in the chemo. I just keep going and going,up and down the stairs, cleaning things up, moving things.LOL it's cool to remember how you felt and what you could do. This lead me to the subject of steroids and sports, I don't know how but the connection came up.I am certainly no athlete. But this episode of my steroid use has made me believe that any award given, and any bonus paid to an athlete should be taken away. The award and money should be given to the next player who is willing to be tested and passes the drug use. I know I could not be doing all I am doing now without the drug. And I'm not just talking steroids, I mean all performance enhancing drug. OK that's my enhanced rant for today,so there's no charge

5 pointsBeen a few weeks since I had any seat time so my yard was out of control with leaves. I just did a motor swap on the 312-A so that's part of my reason for being down for a bit. Here are my twins ready for duty Here is my Wikco sweeper that was purchased way back by my grandfather which he used with his 1985 312-8. These sweepers and parts can still be purchased, price tag today is 1299!!! I save it from the weeds after it sat for a few years cleaned it up and painted it wheel horse red. Have a wheel horse decal for it but haven't put it on yet. With some good ground speed I was able to get the sweeper pretty full All together I was out for about 3 hours and figured I dumped the sweeper 50+ times and also filled my 3 place snowmobile trailer 3 times. I was the good neighbor though and did my next door neighbors front yard. I should have taken a pic of that because her leaves were so deep I thought about going to mount the snowblower attachment Hope you guys enjoy the photos!!

2 pointslost my senses awhile back and bought this wheel horse senior that needs help bad. It started when I called about an add on craigslist from a gentleman selling a wheel horse collection but there were no pictures or any tractors listed. when I called I asked what do you have for sale and he replied what are you looking for Sooo for the heck of it I said a wheel horse senior there was a moment of silence then he said I have one but I was not going to sell it . so we talked for awhile and found out we knew who each other was from the wheel horse show he was looking for some information I had so we traded e-mail address and hung up later I e-mailed him the information we was looking for and told him that if he ever decides to sell the senior to let me know. about two months went by and I received an e-mail from him wondering if I was still interested in buying the senior well one thing lead to another and a deal was made and now I have my work cut out for me too save this one this one will be a learning experience Brian

2 pointsWhat he said.^^^ There may be nothing wrong with that motor other than a float valve leaking. A carburetor kit could be all it needs.

2 pointslooking at the stuff that is coming out of the oil hole, looks a lot like the oil a mate of mine had in his home made atv, it had a carb that didn't stop overflowing, might want to check that and get it running for now so you can test the trans and deck Koen

2 pointsI am not a big proponent of filled tires, but I know that many of you are and have been using that technique successfully for many years. It has been over 40 years since I took Engineering Mechanics, but I do remember that rotational inertia must be counterbalanced by the strength of materials. Inertia can be your friend as well as your enemy. It is a good thing the designers of the WH Unidrive way back in the 50's over designed the pinion and differential gears or else those tranny's would be littered with broken gear teeth. Weight placed close to the center of rotation is a bit easier of the drive train. But hey, who am I to argue with success. If it works, go for it!

2 pointsHere is the one I made for my 312-8 afer the original rusted through. I made it from stainless & copied the original down to the internal volume, # of holes in the tubes etc because it is fitted with the Walbro non adjustable carb, but then bought a Kohler carb from Joe's outdoor power, it is very quiet Doug.

2 pointshello guys and girls i made a trailer to a short film i will be making (of coarse it features my tractor) its a spoof of the fast and furious francise) sort of a joke type video if you ask me. enjoy james

2 pointsThe odds are posted. My SWAG picks were almost spot on (not that it means anything) with the exception of Northwestern being 1 point favorites. I don't always go with the favorites and with it being a home game for Northwestern (puttycats? ) they could pull it off. I'll stick with my gut feeling on that one. I do like donuts

-
2 pointsThanks Steve but ask Rob what happens when you change your picks The way I figure it, I'm not doing so well with my usual method so why not change things up. Wait a minute.......change 4 picks??
-
2 pointsYeah it's going to be a great hangout for us guys who live close! Steve's even gonna let me keep my restored horses in there so I can free up some room in my workshop. Hopefully we can get the roof and siding finished this week. With any luck the main guys building it will get the doors and the rest of the windows installed and it will be weather tight.

2 pointsThis one is not mine, but very famous. The cup not the guy holding it.

1 pointNot sure if this should be posted in this section, or in the "Other Brands" section. Feel free to move this if need be Karl. There has been quite a few people that have fitted these engines to Wheel Horses, and there is quite a bit of info on how to do the swap. However I haven't seen too many pictures of the inner workings of one. From the reviews I've seen, most people have no problems with them, but a few have had problems straight away. I have read that there is more than 50 different companies in China building these engines, and some are Yanmar clones, and some are clones of Yanmar clones . A friend of mine came across a guy who was selling some 10hp clone diesel engines cheap. The catch was that they were generator motors with the tapered crankshaft. You can buy a new straight (1") crankshaft for $80, so I decided to take the plunge. If this motor ever runs again, it will probably be in this guise: Got a little suspicious when I saw this sticker: Will probably need Chucks (SOI) help to figure out the electronics on this. There was carbon in the exhaust port, and traces of oil on the dipstick, so it obviously had been run at the factory. So after dropping it on the chassis to see if it would fit I started the process of swapping the cranks. Flywheel off, and cheap nasty looking stator revealed: Other side engine cover off and the internals are revealed: Whatever oil was in the crankcase has turned to a thick sticky treacle goop in the bottom of the crankcase. No evidence of any metal particles either in the crankcase or on the oil filter screen. A closer look at the "treacle": However this is what the PTO side main bearing looked like: Deep scores, obviously caused by particles of something passing through the bearing. The big end bearings look better - that is to say not scored up, but ugly wear marks nonetheless: The ball bearings on the other end of the crank, both ends of the balance shaft and on the cam feel awful. I haven't washed them up yet to see if they have crap in them, or whether it is just the treacle gumming them up. Severe galling on the follower that drives the fuel pump off the cam (sorry for the bad pic): And this surprise when I lifted off the valve cover: You can see the exhaust rocker missed its little socket completely. Yes this pushrod is now bent. That's about as far as I have gone with the teardown so far, at this stage I might as well pull the piston and reassemble the thing from scratch. Havent looked at the oil pump yet, I'm suspecting its not too good.

1 pointWay to save another For that kind of money you can't lose!

1 pointThe early version 60" deck did not have the gage wheels on each side of the front of the deck. The later version did. Not sure but maybe starting around 1992 or 1993? The 1991 deck did not have the front wheels.

1 pointSeveral years ago, one of our members began a thread called the Regulator/Rectifier autopsy. If I recall, it never was finished, and the results are still pending. But I think the gist of it was that in most cases it was cheaper to just go buy a new or good used one. Here is one source for new. eBay is another good source for one for under $40.00 delivered. http://www.milfordpower.com/R10297-Voltage-Regulator-Replaces-Kohler-41-403-06-p/r10297.htm

1 pointAnd so it begins.................... I decided to start with the steering as it is very hard to turn the steering wheel and standing in front of the tractor the left front wheel leans out at the top having never spent much time around a senior I was not sure what was missing on top of the steering wheel but a quick pm to my friend Bob (horsefixer) and I had a picture of the top of his senior's steering wheel It took about a week to remove the steering wheel from the shaft so I could get the hood off then I removed the steering column and steering box first thing I noticed was the soft plug in the bottom of the steering box blown out and very rusty also the side cover was cracked It seems someone broke the threads off the steering shaft for the acorn nut that holds the steering wheel on and this let water run down the center of the shaft and in to the steering box the bottom of the box and end of the steering shaft was badly rusted too you can see all the rust pitting this is the upper end where the steering wheel goes This is whats left of the upper steering column bearing and how badly the column is rusted this is the end of the column that clamps to the steering box Brian

1 pointBob - if I am not mistaken, that wagon is the wagon, that became the Wheelhorse - when the name switched to Toro/Wheelhorse for the "XI" line...It really should go behind an "XI" model to do it justice. I'll be by tomorrow and pick it up!

1 pointI took the mule off the front. Then I got to looking and that big ol' mower deck lever which is useless to me (no deck and no plans on getting one) and kinda in the way, so I removed it, too. I'll bundle them up and store them away for a rainy day. I noticed one end of the left-side tie rod was worn out and would pop off easily. Same thing happened to my old Craftsman. Anyway, I ordered replacements for both sides. I, also, ordered new tires all the way around and will be ordering a tranny shifter boot and carburetor kit soon. That should about do it for replacement parts. I haven't done anything with the engine yet, but it looks like it is going to be good. At least, there is no apparent evidence it has been abused. Besides rebuilding the carb, I need to change the oil and check the points. Then I'll probably remount it and fire it up. I'm confident it's going to be an easy job. The more I look at it, the more I want to get it running and working. I may not be so diligent about restoring and just finish cleaning it, making it mechanically sound and get it going.

1 pointHey Bob, is that cylinder in the lower chute section stock, or is that something you added? My tall chute has a ZEE shaped wire there.

1 pointWell, I thought, since it is November 1st. and I did no mowing in November that I would get things started for the winter season.... Took the deck off, and prepped it for spring, hung it on the back wall of the garage greased the tractor washed and waxed the tractor mounted the snowblower mounted the rear weights - 60lbs Between the rear weights, wheel weights, and myself, there is close to 400lbs. of added weight to the drive axles.. Seemed to really help last year, the additional weight in the back. All I have left is to mount the cab and put the chains on.
