Hi All, starting another restoration on a 58 RJ. I bought this one in the spring at mentone as a non runner, got it complete and running and then the trans leaked really bad so I took it out to rebuild it. I have since had the tranny out of it for a couple months...it turned out to need a lot of parts. I finally got it back together last weekend, then realized a sideplate was bent so it don't turn over. I did some diggging around and found a perfect set of sideplates that have no rust pitting...I am going to prime them and sand them so they are nice, so the trans is on hold for a while. Tonight I tore the tractor the rest of the way apart. It will be a easy one to restore because there is not really any rust pitting....I will not have to fill any pits, just prime and sand it...and will have to spend some time on the hood as its kind of dented up. It has an original belt guard and heat shield....it has a newer k91 on it, but I have a correct 3/4" exaust k91 with a shower cap muffler I'm going to swap for this engine off a 400. This will be a slow going project because I still have the 57 rj apart. Anyways...here is it as of tonight. Gonna start sandblasting parts tomorrow and getting them ready to be primed. Thanks, Jake

Ok...been feeling a bit under the weather lately, as some of you know. Haven't really felt much like :wh:'n around much. So I read where Geno scarfed up a 953/1054 the other day, and I thought, "ya know, cancer, smancer, I gotta get this 953 torn down before they start treating this stuff, because during recovery, it'll be a lot easier to clean parts and paint than all this nasty tear down". So, I got myself out here tonight, and got quite a bit stripped off the 953. Next I have to pull the Transaxle and hydraulics. Looks like I'm going to have to go through the hydro pump also. So here's the pics fellas! p.s....Geno doesn't have this area completely tied up and monopolized! And he's not the only one with a deep evil plan! That last pic is of a k161, with cub cadet accessories. Goina sell those accessories, and add this as number 3 to my 7hp collection! "MUWAHHAHAHA!" Lol! Trying to trade a guy out of a 68 Lawn Ranger as we speak also! :laughing-rolling:

Let me get this straight. You tore down a completely good K-341. You are going to convert it to a Magnum style engine. You are thinking about decking the block but don't want to spend $200 for a cam grind. Frankly, and you said you wanted tips, even if it was "ugly", you are wasting your time and money. You had a perfectly good engine good for at least 20 years if taken care of and haven't got a clue about building an engine. Now you are asking for suggestuons? Next time you run across a K-341 in that kind of shape, PM me and let me get it away from you. You asked.

We found a forklift last night in Greenfield IN then ran an hour down to Richmond after that to pick up a 953 or 1054, whatever it is. I have all the guards and hood for the tractor along with the right wheels and tires, they're in the truck. The tractor owner also had a cool little dog to play with, my dad used to have one just like her. Can't come home without a of course. I think I will leave the forks alone, just clean them up as they are brass. Now I just have to figure out what should be red and what should be ivory on the soon to be forklift, any ideas?

I know this is probably not the right spot to post this but thought everyone checks this fourm first, so anyway Just wanted to say what a GREAT bunch of folks we have on this site. Have been looking for parts to fix up a c-160 auto and have had tons of help from everyone on this site. Dave, Bruce, Curtis, they know who they are... have gone out of their way to help me. It is very refreshing to know there are still people in this world that want to help a stranger and in turn make a new friend. TO EVERYONE HERE A BIG THANKS !!

I'm just glad Ohio stands between Geno and Michigan still. when he starts buying storage facilities around the country we'll all be as nervous!

When you enter Ohio from Kentucky the sign says welcome to Ohio. We might have to change that to welcome to Ohio ( except Geno ).

Steve and Ken, (although mostly Steve) have been harassing me to get into the old motors and boats. I was putting up a good resistance until 2 weeks ago. Ken PM'd me and asked if I was interested in a 1957 Johnson 5.5hp outboard he was putting on Craigslist. He went through it and it's all ready for the water. At the price he sold it to me for I finally couldn't resist. I posted a few days ago about the mint 1956 7.5hp Evinrude Fleetwin I picked up for a steel. Well 2 days ago Steve texted me a link for a 1957 10hp Evinrude Sportwin. He said this one would be better then the other two because the 10 horse power would be enough for the size aluminum boat i'm in the market for. I checked out the link and low and behold it was located in the exact same town in New Jersey I was heading down to the next day. A member here bought my tall chute snow blower and I was heading down to deliver it to him. I emailed the seller and asked if I could stop by and see it. I heard back from him on my way down the next day and come to find out he only lives 1.5 miles from where I was dropping of the snow blower. Needless to say we struck a deal and it ended up in the back of my truck. SO NOW I HAVE 3 VINTAGE OUTBOARD ENGINES!!!! The good thing is these take up almost no room at all. I don't think i'm going to keep all 3. I will probably sell the small Johnson and keep the other two. The 7.5 Evinrude is so clean and original I can't see selling it. So here they all are:

We need to establish an early warning system.... to get the word out when Geno's on the prowl. Then set, and bait the traps. Here Geno, Geno, Geno!
  15. 2 points
One of these days we are going to see Geno on either A & E, History or Discover Channels. Give us a big shout out when your on!

First off why must we beat others ideas down this is a forum for help not ball busting it's just an engine nothing more. Second I think it is a creative idea and something to try. Third maybe some people like the m series with a mag and no points because that would make it easier to trouble shoot and not have to check and adjust points or worry about getting water in them. Can't wait to see this engine finished.

I think I could make it if you made it next year... its only ~2 hrs for me. For the remainder of year I'm staying within half hour of Cincy whenever possible. (wife in hospital for pregnancy complications)... but even if you did still have it this year I could always make it to next years!

Now its time to keep everything under Lock and key and have motion detection sprinkles. That's a nice lift GENO it'll get those horses set up in the stable. :)

You laugh at the idea, but I've got a family member who collects another brand who's shooting for getting one from every state! He's got a map with checkmarks. Via Tapatalk 4

Looks like you have a good machine for a restore....You going to paint over the cat?
  31. 1 point
Oh really. You wouldn't lie to me AJ would you? I already told you there will be no warning system or tracking. I'm working on cutting that back.
  32. 1 point
I have found that those people probably already sold it but seem to think that ignoring hundreds of texts/phone calls/emails is easier than deleting the ad.

That could work. Just a day this fall to hang out then a bigger one in the spring over at dads. The one at dads we would have 300 acres to play on and plow, cut, and pull or whatever.

Nice haul Geno, that piece of equipment is really going to make your life so much easier. When I see guys starting to put tractors on racks I always think that tractor is going to be up there forever if he doesn't have an easy way to get it back down... I would probably paint it red and black.. White will get real dirty on that piece of equipment. Geno, I know you know better but just a reminder all the same. Be real careful raising your tractors on that lift. We have a very similar lift here at work. One of the guys was using it and he went up too far and hit a sprinkler pipe. Needless to say that created a disaster for me too handle and the owners weren't too happy that thousands upon thousands of dollars of leather was now ruined because most of the water that came out of that pipe at first was black and nasty!

Geno, that looks to be another nice find there. If I were to wager a guess, I would say you have a model 1054 or 1054A based on the fan gear steering, the headlights bracket and the seat frame. Looking forward to seeing a post of the "Wheel Horse" fork lift with its new coat of paint!

Hah...They are worried about Illinois at home against Minnesota...I was thinking the same thing. I am leaning toward the home teams this week...which means Penn St. over Ohio St. and Illinois over Minnesota. I will pick my picks tomorrow...but I am going to burn some incense tonight and sip some homemade...look at the stars...make sure all my 1/2" drive sockets are in the right order and all my horses are facing west. When all feels right...I am going to take a doughnut and just squeeze the stuff out of it and make my picks this week.

Use two set screws 90 degrees apart with lock nuts. Put the hub on and tightin down the woodruff key set screw enough to leave a witness mark on the woodruff key. Remove the hub and grind a notch in the woodruff key where the witness mark lies. Reinstall the hubs, tighten the set screws and locknuts. Problem solved
